Abstract:
Only 0.12% to 2% of diagnosed hernias are Spigelian type. Even less frequently encountered—Grynfeltt-Lesshaft hernias—hernias have unknown incidence. A Spigelian hernia is encountered along the Spigelian fascia and Grynfeltt-Lesshaft hernias are bounded by the superior lumbar triangle. These unique hernias can both be intermuscular, given their anatomical borders which allow concealment and preclusion of accurate diagnosis. Here, an 86-year-old male presented with symptoms consistent with small bowel obstruction. On physical exam, a right lower quadrant hernia and right posterior flank mass we

Abstract:
The Grynfeltt-Lesshaft hernia is a rare posterior abdominal wall defect that allows for the herniation of retro- and intraperitoneal structures through the upper lumbar triangle. While this hernia may initially present as a small asymptomatic bulge, the defect typically enlarges over time and can become symptomatic with potentially serious complications. In order to avoid that outcome, it is advisable to electively repair Grynfeltt hernias in patients without significant contraindications to surgery. Due to the limited number of lumbar hernioplasties performed, there has not been a large study

A weakening or defect in posterolateral abdominal wall can lead to development of lumbar hernia. These defects are particularly common in Petit's inferior triangle or Grynfeltt-Lesshaft superior triangle. There are very few cases of primary lumbar hernias that have been described in literature till date. As it is a rare entity, it is often misdiagnosed, leading to delay in management. We present a case of a 66-year-old male with no previous surgery who presented with a mass in left lumbar region for last ten years. The mass gradually increased in size and caused vague dragging pain. On Compute

Abstract:
A uncommon posterior abdominal wall defect called the Grynfeltt-Lesshaft hernia permits the herniation of retro and intraperitoneal tissues via the upper lumbar triangle. We describe a case of a post-menopausal woman who visited the surgical OPD because of a bulge that was steadily growing in the right lumbar area. She had a history of spinal tuberculosis and underwent computed tomography (CT) guided aspiration of a paravertebral abscess and surgical fixation of vertebrae. During the initial clinical examination, the swelling resembled a large lipoma, but other potential diagnoses considered w

Introduction: Lumbar hernia in the pediatric population is an extremely rare diagnosis and therefore requires specific diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. This case report describes the first published case of a pediatric lumbar hernia in the Czech Republic. Case description: A 22-month-old boy was examined at a pediatric surgical clinic due to a soft reducible mass in the right lumbar region, which, according to his mother, has been present from birth. An ultrasound scan confirmed a defect in the anatomical localization of the superior lumbar triangle (the triangle of Grynfeltt-Lesshaft) m
