Abstract:

Only 0.12% to 2% of diagnosed hernias are Spigelian type. Even less frequently encountered—Grynfeltt-Lesshaft hernias—hernias have unknown incidence. A Spigelian hernia is encountered along the Spigelian fascia and Grynfeltt-Lesshaft hernias are bounded by the superior lumbar triangle. Abstract:

The Grynfeltt-Lesshaft hernia is a rare posterior abdominal wall defect that allows for the herniation of retro- and intraperitoneal structures through the upper lumbar triangle. While this hernia may initially present as a small asymptomatic bulge, the defect typically enlarges over time and can become symptomatic with potentially serious complications. A weakening or defect in posterolateral abdominal wall can lead to development of lumbar hernia. These defects are particularly common in Petit's inferior triangle or Grynfeltt-Lesshaft superior triangle.
