With the inherently high degree of complexity, heterostructures composed of two or more materials joined in unique architectures may exhibit superior synergetic properties that are difficult or impossible to acquire from their individual constituents. For semiconductor heterostructures, the relative band alignment of the constituents promotes effective charge separation to bring them desirable properties for photocatalysis applications. Among the different types of heterostructures, core@shell and yolk@shell nanocrystals have received particular interest due to their fascinating properties. Se

This article, being a companion paper of Gu and Chen (1997), concerns the out-of-plane behavior (lateral-torsional buckling) of welded I-section beam-columns with slender web. Theoretical and experimental studies show that relaxing the strict limit of web slenderness in traditional I-section beam-column design is possible and efficient. Web buckling/deflection does not seriously reduce the out-of-plane bearing capacity of such beam-columns. Design formulas are proposed for practical application to members with web slenderness 60 to 120.

Open-shell nanographenes are attracting attentions for their unique magnetic properties, e.g. with structure-dependent spin multiplicity and exchange coupling. However, majority of open-shell nanographenes are highly unstable and often very difficult to synthesize and characterize in solution, typically involving the introduction of bulky substituents for the kinetic stabilization. On-surface synthesis has emerged as a powerful approach to obtain such elusive nanographenes under ultrahigh vacuum conditions and to directly study their structures and properties by scanning probe microscopy (SPM)

Large polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have attracted renewed attention as molecular nanographenes with unique structure-dependent properties [1]. Such nanographenes are synthesized typically through oxidative cyclodehydrogenation, namely Scholl reaction, of tailor-made polyarylenes as the precursors. The synthesis can be extended to quasi-one-dimensional graphene nanoribbons (GNRs), which are discussed for various future applications, e.g., for nanoelectronics, spintronics, and quantum information technologies [2]. Global energy depletion has become an irreversible fact. Researchers have vigorously pursued the development of renewable energy sources. It is well known that once renewable energy is produced, energy storage devices are needed to store the energy. Supercapacitor (SC) is considered to be a very promising energy storage device because of its long cycle life, high performance, and cost-effectiveness. As emerging SC devices, a battery-type electrode and a double-layer capacitor-type electrode as the anode and the cathode assembles a hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) well [1, 2]. Using anode materials

The studied nano-objects are experimentally grown on a tilted polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate by using physical vapor deposition (PVD). This method creates nanorods tilted to a certain angle with respect to the substrate normal. This geometry allows exciting both transverse and longitudinal modes of the rods. As demonstrated in a previous experimental work, such PVD-grown nano-objects show promising possibilities both as strain gauges or strain-tunable metamaterials if fabrica

Nature is an excellent source of inspiration for the widespread application of science and technology. Researchers learn from biological principles and gradually develop from the earliest direct use of biological materials to the design and development of new biomimetic materials inspired by nature. Therefore, the innovation of bioinspired nanomaterials will enable tremendous advances in biology and biochemistry with biomimetic capabilities, such as biosensing, cell imaging, and drug delivery. We proposed a new idea for testing the thermal decay of light source under the effect of heat where the lux meter is used rather than using the integrating sphere and the thermal camera is used rather than thermocouple. The thermal decay behavior of the light is detected by using the lux meter. The thermal camera can be used to provide the temperature value as well as the temperature distribution of the measured surface which is more convenient than by using the thermocouple. This fitting model is useful for finding out the decay rate of output light under thermal effect. Full Text: PDF Refere

However, these inhibitors are also associated with significant hematological toxicities. Studies have indicated that the synthetic lethality observed with BRCA mutations is mainly driven by PARP1, while PARP2 is not essential in this context. PARP2 has been shown to be crucial for the survival of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells in animal models. Therefore, selective inhibition of PARP1 could potential
