Gu Cheng (1957–1993), a prominent member of the “Misty Poets”, lived the last part of his life in the West as he was exiled in 1989. So he stayed abroad separeted from his country and people and unable to cope with the western world. Western influences can be seen even in his early production (where we can see similarities with the works of J.H. Fabre) as well as in his last cycle of poems Cheng (City), in which we can find the influence of T.S. Eliot.

<p>Misty poetry or 朦胧诗 <em>menglongshi</em> is a poem that appeared in the era of the 70s during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). The emergence of a new kind of poetry that is different from the previous poem marks a new way of writing poetry in China. Its uniqueness is in wordplay, metaphor, synesthesia, and symbols that are not open to its meaning. This new type of Misty poem also received attention from the Chinese government, because behind the symbols and sequence of sentences contain thoughts that are considered not in accordance with the government. Among these Misty wing poets, Bei Dao and Gu Cheng were two important poets. This paper reviews two poems of Bei Dao and two poems by Gu Cheng on the intrinsic element that contains imagery and style of language to understand the meaning. Furthermore, In order to support the analysis, this research also reviews the extrinsic elements to gain the whole meaning of the poetry. Therefore, the explanation of the Cultural Revolution is very important for this analysis. This analysis will explain how this Misty poems play an important role to explain the Cultural Revolution through the works of Bei Dao and Gu Cheng.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p class="JudulAbstrakKeyword"> </p>

Background:Behçet’s syndrome is a chronic, multi-system inflammatory disorder characterized by painful, recurrent oral ulcers (OU) and genital ulcers (GU).1The GU associated with Behçet’s syndrome can contribute to difficulties with sexual activity, walking, and sitting2; may cause scarring1; and may impair quality of life.1,2Apremilast (APR), an oral phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor, has demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of the OU associated with Behçet’s syndrome in the phase III, randomized RELIEF study (BCT-002).3Objectives:To describe the efficacy of APR for the treatment of GU associated with active Behçet’s syndrome in the RELIEF study and in a pooled data analysis of RELIEF and the phase II study.Methods:Adult patients (≥18 years of age) with active Behçet’s syndrome and ≥3 OU at randomization or ≥2 OU at screening and randomization, without active major organ involvement, were randomized (1:1) to APR 30 mg twice daily or placebo (PBO). In RELIEF, clinical improvement in GU was assessed by evaluating the time to the first GU recurrence after loss of complete response, the mean number of GU in patients without GU at baseline, and the proportion of patients who were GU-free (complete response) at Week 12 (regardless of baseline GU status). A pooled analysis of patients in RELIEF and a randomized, phase II study4were conducted to assess achievement of GU complete response in patients with GU at baseline. In patients with GU complete response before Week 12, the median time to the first GU recurrence after loss of complete response was based on Kaplan-Meier estimates. The mean number of GU was summarized descriptively using data as observed. Between-group differences in the proportion of patients who were GU-free at Week 12 were analyzed by Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel test using non-responder imputation to handle missing data. Statistical tests were 2 sided (α=0.05).Results:A total of 207 patients were randomized and received ≥1 dose of study medication (APR: n=104; PBO: n=103). In all, 17 patients in the APR group and 17 in the PBO group had GU at baseline, with mean GU counts of 2.9 (APR) and 2.6 (PBO). Among patients with GU at baseline in RELIEF, 12/17 (70.6% [APR]) and 7/17 (41.2% [PBO]) achieved GU complete response at Week 12 (P=0.110). The median time to first GU recurrence in these patients occurred earlier with PBO (6.1 weeks) vs. APR (not calculable). In the pooled analysis of RELIEF and the phase II study, a significantly greater proportion of patients with GU at baseline achieved GU complete response at Week 12 with APR vs. PBO (21/27 [77.8%] vs. 9/23 [39.1%];P=0.011) (Figure 1). The proportion of patients who were GU-free was significantly greater with APR (92/104 [88.5%]) vs. PBO (72/101 [71.3%]), regardless of baseline number of GU (P=0.002) (Figure 2).Conclusion:The number of patients with GU was low, but the totality of the data shows a favorable trend in the treatment effect of APR on GU. Immunoglobulin (Ig) heavy chain (HC) class switch recombination (CSR) is a late B cell process that involves intrachromosomal DNA rearrangement. Ku70 and Ku80 form a DNA end-binding complex required for DNA double strand break repair and V(D)J recombination. Ku70−/− (K70T) mice, like recombination activating gene (RAG)-1– or RAG-2–deficient (R1T or R2T) mice, have impaired B and T cell development at an early progenitor stage, which is thought to result at least in part from defective V(D)J recombination (Gu, Y., K.J. Seidl, G.A. Rathbun, C. Zhu, J.P. Manis, N. van der Stoep, L. Davidson, H.L. Cheng, J.M. Sekiguchi, K. Frank, et al. 1997. Immunity. 7:653–665; Ouyang, H., A. Nussenzweig, A. Kurimasa, V.C. Therefore, to examine the potential role of Ku70 in CSR, we generated K70T mice that carry a germline Ig HC locus in which the JH region was replaced with a functionally rearranged VH(D)JH and Ig λ light chain transgene (referred to as K70T/HL mice). Previously, we have shown that B cells from R1T or R2T mice carrying these rearranged Ig genes (R1T/HL or R2T/HL mice) can undergo CSR to IgG isotypes (Lansford, R., J. Manis, E. Sonoda, K. Rajewsky, and F. Alt. 1998. Int. Immunol. 10:325–332). K70T/HL mice had significant numbers of peripheral surface IgM+ B cells, which generated serum IgM levels similar to those of R2T/HL mice. However, in contrast to R2T/HL mice, K70T/HL mice had no detectable serum IgG isotypes. In vitro culture of K70T/HL B cells with agents that induce CSR in normal or R2T/HL B cells did lead to the induction of germline CH transcripts, indicating that initial signaling pathways for CSR were intact in K70T/HL cells. However, treatment with such agents did not lead to detectable CSR by K70T/HL B cells, and instead, led to cell death within 72 h. We conclude that Ku70 is required for the generation of B cells that have undergone Ig HC class switching. Potential roles for Ku70 in the CSR process are discussed.

This celebration of modern Chinese literature is a tour de force, David Wang's third major summation in English. He is even more prolific in Chinese. Wang's command of the creative and critical literatures is unrivalled.Monster's subject is “the multivalence of Chinese violence across the past century”: not 1960s “structural violence” or postcolonial “epistemic violence,” but hunger, suicide, anomie, betrayal (though not assassination or incarceration), and “the violence of representation”: misery that reflects or creates monstrosity in history. Monster thus comments on “history and memory,” like Ban Wang's and Yomi Braester's recent efforts, although for historical reasons modern Chinese literature studies are allergic to historical and sociological methodologies.Monster is comparative, mixing diverse – sometimes little read – post-May Fourth and Cold War-era works with pieces from the 19th and 20th fins de siècle. Each chapter is a free associative rhapsody (sometimes brilliant, sometimes tedious; often neo-Freudian), evoking, from a recurring minor detail as in new historicist criticism, a major binary trope or problematic for Wang to “collapse” or blur. His forte is making connections between works. The findings: (1) decapitation (loss of a “head,” or guiding consciousness?) in Chinese fiction betokens remembering or “re-membering” (of the severed), as in an unfinished Qing novel depicting beheaded Boxers, works by Lu Xun and Shen Congwen, and Wuhe's 2000 commemoration of a 1930 Taiwanese aboriginal uprising; (2) justice is poetic, but equals punishment, even crime, in late Qing castigatory novels, Bai Wei, and several Maoist writers; (3) in revolutionary literature, love and revolution blur, as do love affairs in life with those in fiction; (4) hunger, indistinct from anorexia, is excess; witness “starved” heroines of Lu Xun, Lu Ling, Eileen Chang and Chen Yingzhen; (5) remembering scars creates scars, as in socialist realism, Taiwan's anticommunist fiction, and post-Mao scar literature; (6) in fiction about evil (late Ming and late Qing novels; Jiang Gui), inhumanity is all too human and sex blurs with politics; (7) suicide can be a poet's immortality, from Wang Guowei to Gu Cheng; (8) cultural China's most creative new works invoke ghosts again, obscuring lines between the human, the “real,” and the spectral.

Sulfur- and Coking-tolerant Anodes for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Zhijun Liu,1 Yucun Zhou,1 Weilin Zhang,1 Jie Hou,1 Xueyu Hu,1 Meilin Liu1, * 1 School of Materials Science and Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia 30332-0245, United States Abstract Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) have potential to be one of the most efficient systems for direct conversion of a wide variety of chemical fuels into electricity. 1-3 However, the lack of sulfur- and coking-tolerant anodes still hinders the development of direct hydrocarbon-fueled SOFCs for efficient and cost-effective operation. The conventional Ni-based anodes may suffer from carbon deposition and sulfur poisoning when they are directly exposed to sulfur-containing hydrocarbon fuels, resulting in degradation in performance or even destruction of the anodes. 4-6 In this presentation, we will report a conventional Ni-Zr0.84Y0.16O2-δ (YSZ) anode decorated with Ce and Ba-based catalyst coatings to significantly enhance the sulfur and coking tolerance. Results suggest that the enhanced sulfur tolerance is attributed to the evenly distributed Ce-based catalyst on the inner surface of the porous Ni-YSZ anode while the enhanced coking tolerance is benefited from the Ba-based catalyst layer on the top of the anode. SOFCs with the catalysts-modified Ni-YSZ anodes show minimal degradation when hydrogen with 100 ppm H2S is used as the fuel. More importantly, stable operation is demonstrated for direct utilization of sulfur-containing liquid fuels (e.g., octane and gasoline). A renaissance in literature and art took place in the People's Republic of China from the late 1970s through the 1980s. In poetry, the outburst of vitality first showed itself in 1978–80 in the underground Today (Jintian) group, which included cofounders and editors Bei Dao (b. 1949) and Mang Ke (b. 1951), and such contributors as Jiang He (b. 1949), Shu Ting (b. 1952), Gu Cheng (1956–93), and Yang Lian (b. 1955), to name only a few of the best-known in the West. Today lent momentum to the flourish of Menglongshi, commonly translated as “Obscure Poetry” or “Misty Poetry,” in the early 1980s and became the major source of inspiration—no less than the target of criticism and revolt—to post-Menglong poetry in the second half of the decade. Like Menglongsbi, post-Menglong poetry is a term of inevitable, even misleading, simplification, since it refers to a wide range of varying styles and modes of writing. Rather than being unified by a set of formal and stylistic characteristics, it is marked by a radical openness to experimentation. The multiplicity of experiments in poetry since the mid-1980s may be more broadly and appropriately referred to as avant-garde poetry or experimental poetry (Yeh 1992). This paper will focus on an interesting—and unique in today's world—phenomenon that I call the “cult of poetry.” I will first examine the “cult” by defining its salient features and then present a critical analysis of the diverse historical and psychological forces that contribute to such a literary phenomenon.

This essay theorizes the potential uses and limitations of describing a text as “viral.” Literary texts are often described as viral when they serve as tools of self-expression for those who reproduce them: viral texts must therefore delete or suppress qualities that mark them as alien, and emphasize qualities that identify them with those who might repeat them. As they circulate, viruses span and connect social and intellectual lineages through rhizomatic motion, as described by Deleuze and Guattari. These concepts provide an occasion for a rereading of the contemporary circulation of the poetry of Gu Cheng 顾城, whose verse and biography have circulated widely and been intensively transformed in the past thirty years. The partial and mutated versions of his life and verse that circulate via film, television, print, calligraphy, and especially the Internet produce a shared fantasy of a “free” poet whose genius excludes him from social constraint, and who deserves and enjoys the limitless adoration of women. This fantasy is made circulable in part by suppressing the experience of his wife, Xie Ye 谢烨, whom he killed in 1993, a deletion whose marks are clearly visible in a historicized analysis of popular treatments of their story. On the strength of Deleuze and Guat-tari’s argument that the rhizome cannot be encompassed but instead only extended through rupture, the essay then reads Xie Ye’s prose compositions “Games” and “Your Name Is Little Mu’er,” finding them to contain stories that can travel and concepts whose circulation may contribute to antipatri-archal goals. The piece concludes by arguing that the metaphor of the virus reveals the position of the scholar who reproduces texts for study, and that thinking through the virus implicates scholars in the ethics and pragmatics of spreading texts.

Nature is an excellent source of inspiration for the widespread application of science and technology. Researchers learn from biological principles and gradually develop from the earliest direct use of biological materials to the design and development of new biomimetic materials inspired by nature. Therefore, the innovation of bioinspired nanomaterials will enable tremendous advances in biology and biochemistry with biomimetic capabilities, such as biosensing, cell imaging, and drug delivery. In this presentation, I will discuss my group’s recent work on two bioinspired nanomaterials: nano-peptoids and single-atom nanozymes. The first type of bioinspired materials is a sequence-defined peptide-like materials that can mimic the structure and function of peptides and proteins. Compared with peptides and proteins, peptoids have a high degree of thermal and chemical stability, and are resistant to proteolytic degradation. In addition, due to the lack of intramolecular and intermolecular backbone hydrogen bond donors, it is possible to precisely control the peptoid and peptoid-substrate interactions, leading to bio-inspired synthesis of nanomaterials with a layered structure. As a peptide mimic, the peptoids has biocompatibility, non-toxicity and sequence-specific heteropolymers. Nano-peptoids can be synthesized with polar and hydrophobic monomers and have the following advantages: They can be easily processed into desired shapes (e.g. dendritic, sheets, tubes and vesicles), and the size range is 2-100 nm to enhance cell targeting and uptake. The application of nano-peptoids in cell imaging and cancer theranostics will be discussed. Another type of bioinspired nanomaterials with enzyme-like properties is single-atom nanoenzymes. As a biocatalyst, natural enzymes have the ability to accelerate various reaction rates with extremely high activity and selectivity under mild conditions. However, due to the temperature and pH-related denaturation of proteins and the possibility of contamination by bacteria or other reagents, the shelf life of natural enzymes is limited or uncertain, and their purification and production costs are high. Therefore, natural enzymes must narrow the range of conditions under which they can be used, limiting their further applications in biosensing and biomedicine. R Recent research has focused on the rational design of nanomaterials with inherent enzyme-like catalytic properties (for example, oxidase, peroxidase, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and so on) and exploration of their applications in various fields. Although much progress has been made, the development of nanozymes is still hampered by several challenges. Catalytic activity and substrate selectivity are the two most important issues that need to be resolved to allow the technology to reach full maturity. Therefore, rational design and tuning of nanomaterials is highly desirable for the development of novel enzyme-mimic nanomaterials with precise catalytic sites. We have developed various Fe-N-C based single atomic site catalysts which have similar structure with active site of peroxidase. These atomically-dispersed Fe-N-C materials have enzyme-like properties, therefore they are classified as single-atom nanozymes. Together with their abundantly exposed active sites and specific structures, these single atomic nanozymes have great potential for the enhancement of biocatalytic activity and selectivity in biosensing. Abstract Background: In patients (pts) with previously treated aHCC, pembro demonstrated comparable efficacy and safety vs placebo (pbo) in the phase 3 KEYNOTE-240 (NCT02702401) and KEYNOTE-394 (NCT03062358) studies in global and Asian populations, respectively. The hazard ratio ([HR]; 95% confidence interval [CI]) for OS was 0.781 (0.611-0.998) in KEYNOTE-240 and 0.79 (0.63-0.99) in KEYNOTE-394; HR (95% CI) for PFS was 0.78 (0.61-0.99) and 0.74 (0.60-0.92), respectively. ORR differences with pembro vs pbo were similar in KEYNOTE-240 (13.8% [95% CI, 7.7-19.5]) and KEYNOTE-394 (11.4% [95% CI, 6.7-16.0]). We performed a prespecified meta-analysis of KEYNOTE-240 and KEYNOTE-394 to obtain a more precise estimate of the pembro treatment effect. Methods: In KEYNOTE-240 and KEYNOTE-394, pts with confirmed aHCC and progression or intolerance to sorafenib or oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy (KEYNOTE-394 only) were randomized 2:1 to pembro (200 mg IV Q3W) or pbo for ≤35 cycles, both with best supportive care. Inclusion/exclusion criteria were similar. Meta-analysis of pt data pooled from the ITT population of the pembro and pbo arms of each study was completed. OS, PFS (blinded independent central review [BICR] per RECIST 1.1), and ORR (BICR per RECIST 1.1) were assessed. Results: In total, 578 pts who received pembro and 288 who received pbo were included. The HR for OS and PFS and the difference in ORR for pembro vs pbo in all pts was 0.79 (95% CI, 0.67-0.93), 0.76 (0.64-0.89), and 12.5 (8.8-16.2), respectively (Table). Results were consistent across subgroups, including viral etiology, BCLC stage, and age. Conclusions: This meta-analysis of two studies with similar design, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and endpoints, showed improvement in OS, PFS, and ORR with pembro vs pbo across studies. These data also show consistent outcomes between the studies, providing further evidence for the benefit of second-line pembro for aHCC globally. Abstract Accurate and early detection of oncogenic markers may one day be the key to fighting cancer. However, with complex workflows, long turnaround times, and numerous user touch points of most sequencing platforms does not make the process attainable. In contrast, the fully automated Genexus࣪ system provides a specimen-to-report workflow for cancer research with minimal user touchpoints and single day turnaround time. FFPE (formalin-fixed paraffin embedded) tissues and liquid biopsy are two of the main sample types used in oncology research. Here we report the use of the Oncomine࣪ Precision Assay (OPA) with the Genexus࣪ System which provides a comprehensive genetic profile across 50 key genes using DNA and RNA from FFPE tissues or cfTNA (cell free total nucleic acid) from liquid biopsy samples. To evaluate the nucleic acid (NA) extraction and sequencing performance of the Genexus࣪ system, contrived control samples with known variants and clinical research samples were used in the OPA FFPE and liquid biopsy workflows (n = 30). NA was quantified using the Genexus࣪ purification instrument’s onboard Qubit࣪ quantitation feature after purification. Output plates with extracted NA were transferred to the Genexus࣪ Integrated Sequencer for library preparation and sequencing using the OPA assay. Data were analyzed using the Ion torrent Genexus࣪ software to evaluate assay performance and variant calling.The OPA assay only requires 10ng of DNA and RNA from FFPE samples and 20ng of cfTNA from liquid biopsy samples. Genexus࣪ purification instrument onboard quantitation data showed successful extraction of NA exceeding the required yields for library preparation. Excess NA was automatically aliquoted into an archive plate and stored for future use. Sequencing results for four samples of FFPE or liquid biopsy were reported within 24 hours. Both Control and clinical research samples showed expected assay metrices including read coverage, molecular coverage, and uniformity. The results reported all expected variants at correct allele frequencies, including BRAF V600E, KRAS G12C, PIK3CA N345K, AKT1 etc. Overall, this study demonstrates that the Genexus࣪ system provides a user-friendly workflow with automated NA purification, quantitation, sample dilution, library preparation, sequencing, and data analysis with minimal hands-on time that can be performed with limited expertise to obtain results within 24 hours. The yield and quality of potato in South Korea vary with different environmental conditions and all induced varieties do not perform well in every location. There are many suggested reasons for this problem; they include soil topography, temperature, rainfall pattern, etc. This study focused on finding certain potato genotypes based on high yield and quality (marketable rate, uniformity, less physiological disorders, resistance to diseases), and suitability for processing in three agro-ecological regions in South Korea. Thirty-two potato genotypes were cultivated in three regions i.e., Chuncheon (low altitude), Yang-gu (middle altitude), and Pyeong-chang (alpine), along with three major cultivars (Atlantic, Shepody, and Superior) as control. All the potato lines were evaluated for three consecutive years. The results showed that a higher tuber yield was obtained from the genotypes Gangwon Valley, Valley 11, Valley 13, and Valley 92 in Chuncheon; while Valley 13, Valley 43, and Valley 92 in Yang-gu; and Valley 43, Gui Valley and Valley 92 in Pyeong-chang region with a high marketable quality, and lower infection rates and physiological disorders. The results also showed that higher chip lightness was manifested by the genotypes Juice Valley, Gangwon Valley, Rose Valley, Valley 43, and Valley 91 among the high yielding genotypes. Besides, Pyeong-chang (alpine), a high-altitude region with longer maturation time was found more suitable for potato cultivation, especially for higher tuber yield and higher quality products for potato chip processing.

Abstract A close reading of the “Ningxing” (Male favorites) chapters of the Shiji (Archivist’s records) and Hanshu (History of the Han) reveals numerous important differences between the visions of male favoritism advanced by Sima Qian (ca. 145-86 BCE) and Ban Gu (32-92 CE), as well as certain similarities. The present essay thus seeks tentative answers to the following questions: What did Sima Qian and Ban Gu mean by the terms ning and ningxing? What might have moved them to compile these chapters, and what strategies were used to convey their message? What is the role of same-sex desire and patron-client relationships in these sources, and how is this related to the negotiation of political power? While both historians sought to deliver warnings to rulers and favorites about the disastrous consequences that could result from engaging in certain kinds of inappropriate relationships with other men, neither Sima Qian nor Ban Gu criticized same-sex romance or even ‘favoritism’ (chong, xing) per se. Instead, the focus was on favoritism that was “excessive” (shen) or overly “ardent” (du). However, Sima Qian and Ban Gu also came to different conclusions on other issues. Sima Qian’s chapter is an almost sympathetic account of opportunistic and misguided men who suffered personal misfortune as a result of their poor judgment, while Ban Gu portrayed male favorites as scheming villains who threatened the very survival of the dynasty.

Shakespeare studies in Mainland China and Taiwan evolved from the same origin during the two centuries after Shakespeare being introduced into China in the early nineteenth century. Although Shakespeare was first seen on the Taiwan stage in the Japanese language during the colonial period, it was after Kuomintang moved to Taiwan in 1949 that Shakespeare studies began to flourish when scholars and theatrical experts from mainland China, such as Liang Shih-Chiu, Yu Er-Chang, Wang Sheng-shan and others brought Chinese Shakespeare to Taiwan. Since the 1980s, mainland Shakespeareans began to communicate actively with their colleagues in Taiwan. With the continuous efforts of Cao Yu, Fang Ping, Meng Xianqiang, Gu Zhengkun, Yang Lingui and many other scholars in mainland China and Chu Li-Min, Yen Yuan-shu, Perng Ching-Hsi and other scholars in Taiwan, communications and conversations on Shakespeare studies across the Taiwan Strait were gradually enhanced in recent years. Meanwhile, innovations in Chinese adaptations of Shakespeare have resulted in a new performing medium, Shake-xiqu, through which theatrical practitioners on both sides explore possibilities of a union of Shakespeare and traditional Chinese theatre. This paper studies some intricate relationship in the history of Shakespeare studies in mainland China and Taiwan from a developmental perspective and suggests opportunities for positive and effective co-operations and interactions in the future.

Abstract Fanconi anemia (FA) is a genetic syndrome characterized by development of progressive bone marrow failure and cancer predisposition. The difficulty in harvesting FA HSC and their fragility during subsequent in vitro manipulations has proven a confounding factor in attempted gene therapy of this disease. Mobilization of HSC/P in FA patients is poor (Croop et al. Blood, 2001) probably due to HSC deficiency. We have previously shown that the genetic deletion of the Rac GTPases 1 and 2 results in an increase in circulating hematopoietic stem cells and progenitors (HSC/P) (Gu et al. Science 2003). In addition, administration of a single dose of a small molecule inhibitor of Rac GTPases, NSC23766, results in a transient mobilization of engraftable stem cells (Cancelas et al. Nat. Med., 2005). Here, we analyzed the role of NSC23766 in mobilizing HSC/P in FA A (Fanca −/ −) mice (Cheng et al., Hum. Mol. Genet., 2000; kindly provided by M. Grompe, OHSU). First, we validated that this murine model of FA demonstrated a stem cell phenotype by a competitive repopulation assay of BM HSC. We found that Fanca −/ − HSC contribute decreased chimerism in short-term engraftment (52.6 ± 2.6% donor engraftment) compared to wild-type (WT) controls (63.8 ± 1.0%, respectively, p < 0.005). BM and spleen homing of Fanca −/ − HSC/P at sixteen-hours post infusion was not impaired (7.0% in BM and 6.1% in spleen) compared to WT mice (7.8% in BM and 5.4% in spleen) and there was no difference in expression of CXCR4, a4-integrin, a5-integrin and L-selectin between Lin−/c-kit+/Sca-1+ BMC and mobilized PBC derived from Fanca −/ − and WT mice, also supporting an intrinsic HSC defect. We then analyzed the ability of NSC23766, alone or in combination with G-CSF, to mobilize HSC. We observed that Fanca −/ − mice also show an impaired mobilization response to G-CSF administration (200 mcg/Kg/day for five days), which can be partially rescued by administering a single dose of NSC23766, 6 hours before peripheral blood harvest (Table1). We additionally demonstrated the impaired engraftment of in vitro manipulated Fanca −/ − BMC in a competitive transplant assay. This engraftment defect could be completely ameliorated by treatment with Diprotin A (5.9±2.0% donor engraftment untreated vs. 12.0±4.4% treated; p value = 0.01). Diprotin A is an inhibitor of CD26 peptidase which has been shown to cleave SDF1alpha/CXCL12. The combined use of G-CSF and NSC23766 may constitute a future novel approach to induce mobilization of Fanconi anemia HSC and, when coupled with Diprotin A treatment, could act to enhance the engraftment of cells undergoing genetic correction. Novel Coronavirus 2019 (covid-19) is a generation of the coronavirus that humans have never identified. This virus was first reported to cause an outbreak in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Until now, covid-19 infection cases have been reported in many countries, such as Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Iran, Italy, Germany, and more than 90 countries worldwide. Until November 1, 2020, a total of 412.784 positive cases of covid-19 were recorded, with 341.942 recovered patients and 13.943 deaths in Indonesia. The purpose of this event is to anticipate the spread of Covid-19 by reminding the public to maintain health protocols and other alternatives in preserving health, also increasing body immunity through massage and traditional Indonesian herbal medicine. This event received a good response from the public. It was evidenced by the number of participants exceeding the predetermined quota and enthusiastic in following the speaker's material. The event was a success and was well received by the participants as well as the local government. After following this event, participants can practise the knowledge obtained from the presenters to maintain and protect their health and immunity from Covid-19. Abstract In this paper, we introduce and study a new class of nonlinear vari- ational inclusion problems with Lipschitz k-subaccretive type mappings in real reflexive Banach spaces. The existence and uniqueness of such solutions are proved and the convergence and stability of Noor iterative sequences with errors are also discussed. Furthermore, general conver- gence rate estimates are given in our results, which essentially improve and extend the corresponding results in Chang[1, 2], Ding[3], Gu[5, 6, 7], Hassouni andMoudafi[8], Kazmi[9], Noor[11, 12], Siddiqi and Ansari[13], Siddiqi, Ansari and Kazmi[14] and Zeng[16].

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) divides fracture treatment into three stages. Many TCM herbs and formulas have been used to treat fractures for thousands of years. However, research regarding the Chinese herbal products (CHPs) that should be used at different periods of treatment is still lacking. This study aims to identify the CHPs that should be used at different periods of treatment as well as confirm the TCM theory of fracture periods medicine. We used prescriptions of TCM outpatients with fracture diagnoses analyzed using the Chang Gung Research Database (CGRD) from 2000 to 2015. According to the number of days between the date of the fracture and the clinic visit date, all patients were assigned to one of three groups. Patients with a date gap of 0-13 days were assigned to the early period group; those with a date gap of 14-82 days were assigned to the middle period group; and those with a date gap of 83-182 days were assigned to the late period group. We observed the average number of herbal formulas prescribed by the TCM doctor at each visit was 2.78, and the average number of single herbs prescribed was 6.47. The top three prescriptions in the early fracture period were Zheng-gu-zi-jin-dang, Shu-jing-huo-xue-tang, and Wu-ling-san. In the middle fracture period, the top three formulas were Zheng-gu-zi-jin-dang, Shu-jing-huo-xue-tang, and Zhi-bai-di-huang-wan. In the late fracture period, the top three formulas were Shu-jing-huo-xue-tang, Gui-lu-er-xian-jiao, and Du-huo-ji-sheng-tang. The main single herbs used in the early fracture period were Yan-hu-suo, Gu-sui-bu, and Dan-shen. From the middle to the late period, the most prescribed single herbs were Xu-duan, Gu-sui-bu, and Yan-hu-suo. We concluded that the results showed that the CGRD utilization pattern roughly meets the TCM theory at different fracture periods.

Background:Only half of patients diagnosed with SLE fulfill classification criteria; the rest have “SLE-like” illnesses such as UCTD. SLE patients are known to experience impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and significant anxiety, depression, and fatigue,1 yet the psychosocial aspects of UCTD are less established. In a qualitative study, we found that most UCTD patients had engaged in psychotherapy and felt additional support was needed.2Objectives:Using multiple validated instruments, this study aims to quantify the psychosocial impact of UCTD.Methods:The Hospital for Special Surgery UCTD and Overlap Registry includes UCTD patients aged ≥ 18 years with ANA ≥ 1:80 and ≥ 1 sign or symptom of rheumatic disease who do not fulfill classification criteria for a defined CTD. We administered the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) to all patients to assess HRQoL, anxiety, depression, and fatigue. Instruments were scored based on established algorithms and results were summarized using predefined scales and severity thresholds.Results:The composite questionnaire was administered to 85 UCTD patients and completed by 75 (97.3% female, 60% white, mean age ± SD 48.8 ± 13.6 years). The SF-36 Physical Component Summary mean score was 37.8 and Mental Component Summary mean score was 41.1. Across the 8 SF-36 subscales, mean scores were lowest for role limitations due to physical health (39.3) and vitality (39.7) and highest for physical functioning (67.2), role limitations due to emotional health (67.1), and mental health (67.1). Approximately half of UCTD patients reported anxiety (GAD-7 ≥ 6); 20% had moderate/severe anxiety (GAD-7 ≥ 10). The prevalence of depression (BDI ≥ 14) was 26.7%; 13.3% had moderate/severe depression (BDI ≥ 20). The development of the Academic Word List by Coxhead (2000) has drawn attention of the academia to teaching and learning academic vocabulary as well as the creation of more word lists for different majors. However, most of the research in the field of vocabulary has focused on the learning strategies for general vocabulary only (e.g. Gu & Johnson, 1996; Lawson, & Hogben, 1996; Nation, 2001; Schmitt & McCarthy, 1997). Little has been done to investigate strategies for academic vocabulary (Nushi & Jenabzadeh 2016). Given the importance of academic vocabulary in comprising some 8%-10% of running words in academic texts (Nation, 2001), the present study was set out to investigate EFL university students’ strategies for learning academic English words. The participants included 132 EFL university students. The study adopted the taxonomy of vocabulary learning strategies by Schmitt (2000) and strategies for learning academic words by Bramki and Williams (1984) and Chung and Nation (2003). The findings reveal that the respondents tended to use on-line dictionaries and other applications more than cognitive strategies in learning academic words. Based on the findings of the study, suggestions were put forward to a systematized list of academic vocabulary learning strategies as well as what teachers and learners should do when encountering new academic words.

179 Background: CTCs have known prognostic implications in metastatic prostate cancer. We presented initial data on the role of CTCs in BR of prostate cancer (Aragon-Ching et. al., ASCO GU 2011). The primary aim of this study was to determine whether there is a correlation between the number of CTCs with prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels and PSA doubling time (PSADT) in men with BR. Methods: BR was defined as patients who have undergone primary treatment with prostatectomy or radiation or both, with a rise to ≥ 0.2 from a prior undetectable level for prior prostatectomy or > 2 mg/dl rise for post-nadir radiotherapy. 36 patients (pts) were enrolled from May 2010 to May 2012. CTCs were evaluated in 7.5 mL of peripheral blood using the CTC CellSearch test. Results: The median age for 36 pts was 69.5 (range: 51 – 91) with a median PSA of 1.65 ng/mL (range 0.2 – 65.8) and testosterone levels of 315 ng/dL (range: 31 – 727). Gleason scores ranged from 5 to 9 (median=7). Prostatectomy was the primary treatment in 25 pts, radiotherapy in 9 pts, Cyberknife in 1 pt and combined radiohormones in 1 pt. PSADT varied between 0.35 to 55 months, with a median of 7.43 mos. The incidence of positive CTCs was 8.3% (3 out of 36 pts) of whom 2 had biopsy-proven bony lesions upon presenting with equivocal scans. The 3 pts who had measurable CTCs had PSADT of 2.27, 4.99 and 3.08 months, respectively. Conclusions: Obtaining CTCs in unselected patients presenting with biochemical recurrence have low yield. However, obtaining a positive CTC raises the suspicion of presence of metastatic disease and may have utility for longitudinal follow-ups of patients with BR. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a common chronic remitting disease driven through altered immune responses with production of inflammatory cytokines. Oxidant/antioxidant balance is also suggested to be an important factor for the recurrence and progression of UC. Maggots are known as a traditional Chinese medicine also known as “wu gu chong.” NF-E2-related factor-2 (Nrf2) transcription factor regulates the oxidative stress response and also represses inflammation. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of maggot extracts on the amelioration of inflammation and oxidative stress in a mouse model of dextran sulfate sodium- (DSS-) induced colitis and evaluate if the maggot extracts could repress inflammation and oxidative stress using RAW 264.7 macrophages stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). In the present study, we found that the maggot extracts significantly prevented the loss of body weight and shortening of colon length in UC induced by DSS. Furthermore, DSS-induced expression of proinflammatory cytokines at both mRNA and protein levels in the colon was also attenuated by the maggot extracts. In addition, the maggot extracts could significantly suppress the expression of interleukin- (IL-) 1β, IL-6, TNF-α, NFκB p65, p-IκB, p22-phox, and gp91-phox in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells and colonic tissues. The maggot extracts increased the level of Nrf2 and prevented the degradation of Nrf2 through downregulating the expression of Keap1, which resulted in augmented levels of HO-1, SOD, and GSH-Px and reduced levels of MPO and MDA. However, after administering an Nrf2 inhibitor (ML385) to block the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway, we failed to observe the protective effects of the maggot extracts in mice with colitis and RAW 264.7 cells. Taken together, our data for the first time confirmed that the maggot extracts ameliorated inflammation and oxidative stress in experimental colitis via modulation of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. This study sheds light on the possible development of an effective therapeutic strategy for inflammatory bowel diseases.

99 Background: We previously reported the effects of the PSA screening guidelines on the patterns of diagnosis and treatment for PCa based on analyses from the NCDB dataset (Aragon-Ching et al., ASCO GU 2016). Given increasing use and advocacy for active surveillance, we now report on the treatment utilization patterns for PCa by facility type and overall incidence of active treatment (surgery or radiation), no treatment, or active surveillance by PCa stage using the NCDB dataset. Methods: Using a de-identified dataset acquired from NCDB from 1998 to 2012, treatment status of all 337,568 men for which information was available was tabulated according to whether active treatment, no treatment, or active surveillance (i.e. watchful waiting) was performed. Patient characteristics, stage, and treatment status by facility type was determined. Results: There were 1,802,596 patients diagnosed with prostate cancer between 1998 and 2012 in the NCDB. Of the 337,568 men for which treatment status was available, 92% received treatment, nearly 4% were under active surveillance, and another 4% did not receive any form of treatment or active surveillance. Of patients diagnosed with TNM Stage I and II PCa, only 7.5% and 2.22%, respectively, were followed under active surveillance. Overall, active surveillance was most utilized (n = 7,524; 5.7% of men) in academic research programs compared to other treatment facilities. Of the 310,898 men who received any form of active treatment, 193,889 men (62.3%) received surgery and 108,925 men (35%) received radiation. Conclusions: Active surveillance as a treatment modality comprised only a minority of patients who underwent treatment for PCa from 1998–2012, even among men with early Stage I and II Pca. Interestingly, the majority of the men who did receive active surveillance as their treatment option were treated at academic research programs, perhaps alluding to increased recognition and adherence to the PSA screening and active surveillance guidelines compared to other treatment facility types. Datasets including PCa patients beyond 2012 will be explored to further evaluate these changes in treatment modalities.

BackgroundColorectal cancer is a heterogeneous disease with complicated genetic alterations. Right colon and left colon have different features while right colon cancer displays an even worse prognosis. The randomized phase III FOxTROT trial demonstrated better downstaging effect with neoadjuvant plus adjuvant chemotherapy compared with adjuvant chemotherapy alone (P=0.04).1 Moreover, 2-year relapse rate was improved with neoadjuvant therapy, though the difference was not statistically significant. The NICHE study of neoadjuvant immunotherapy (maximum 6 weeks) showed that the pathological response was observed in 20/20 mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR) resectable colon cancers, with 19 major pathological responses and 12 pathological complete responses (pCRs).2 Recently, KEYNOTE-177 study showed improved progression-free survival with PD-1 inhibitor over chemotherapy (16.5 months vs. 8.2 months) in untreated microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H)/dMMR colon cancer patients, including 68% of right colon cancers.3 In addition, camrelizumab (PD-1 inhibitor) plus apatinib (vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 tyrosine kinase inhibitor) demonstrated favorable antitumor effects and a manageable safety profile in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma and gastric cancer.4 5 This phase II trial aims to explore whether the combination of camrelizumab, apatinib and chemotherapy (mFOLFOX6) could significantly improve the pathological regression rate in locally advanced right colon cancer so as to bring considerable survival benefit for patients.MethodsEligible patients are aged 18–75 years, with locally advanced (T4 or T3 with extramural depth ≥5 mm, N0-2, M0, AJCC 8th) adenocarcinoma of right colon (including ileocecal area, ascending colon, and transverse colon to splenic flexion), and without prior systemic chemotherapy or immunotherapy. All patients will receive 5 cycles of camrelizumab (200 mg once every 2 weeks) plus mFOLFOX6 and 2 months of apatinib (250 mg orally once a day), followed by surgery and 7 cycles of adjuvant camrelizumab plus mFOLFOX6. The primary endpoint is the proportion of patients with tumor regression grade (TRG) 2–4 according to the Dworak criteria (TRG2: dominantly fibrotic changes with few tumor cells or groups; TRG3: very few tumor cells in fibrotic tissue; TRG4: no tumor cells). Secondary endpoints include downstaging rate, pCR rate, R0 resection rate, 2-year disease-free survival rate, 2-year event-free survival, overall survival, quality of life, and safety.ResultsTo date, three of planned 64 patients have been enrolled. Two patients have completed surgery. According to Dworak criteria, TRG ranked 4 (pathologic complete response) for the first patient and 3 (very few tumor cells in fibrotic tissue) for the second patient. Abstract Introduction: Acquired resistance to ALK-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (ALK-TKIs) treatment, particularly target-off resistance, remains a clinical challenge for ALK-rearranged non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). To explore novel vulnerabilities of ALK TKI-resistant cancer cells, we focused on their distinct metabolic pathways for growth and survival. Experimental Design: To investigate metabolic pathways in resistance mechanisms, we generated ALK-TKIs -acquired-resistant in vitro/vivo models. We screened metabolite mechanisms using metabolite assay kit, Seahorse Extracellular Flux Analyzer, real-time PCR, western blot, RNA-seq in resistant models. Results: Through an integrated transcriptomic and metabolic assay screening approach, we identified the enhanced reliance on glutamine metabolism in target-off ALK-TKIs-resistant cells. Specifically, resistant cells were characterized by upregulation of glutaminase 1 (GLS1), a mitochondrial enzyme hydrolyzing glutamine into glutamate, simultaneously with downregulation of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). We demonstrated that this metabolic state intensively accelerates glutaminolysis and subsequent mitochondrial glutamine-derived aspartate synthesis, resulting in TKI resistance by reinforcing antioxidant capacity with increase of NADPH and glutathione. Mechanistically, GLS1 inhibition elicited a marked reduction of cell growth with increase of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in resistant cells, which was restored by supplementation of exogenous aspartate. The antitumor activity of GLS1 inhibition against resistant tumor cells was further validated in in vivo experiments, patient-derived xenograft (PDX) and EML4-ALK transgenic mice. More importantly, glutaminase inhibitor CB-839 enhanced the therapeutic efficacy of anti-PD-L1 treatment in immune checkpoint blockade (ICB)-resistant EML4-ALK transgenic mice. Conclusion: Our findings highlight a new metabolic vulnerability of ALK-TKIs resistant tumors and provide a rationale for targeting GLS1 as a potential treatment option to overcome ALK-TKIs resistance. 239 Background: Staging for BR is challenging since the yield of computed tomography (CT) and bone scans are low, especially in patients with low prostate specific antigens (PSA) levels. We examined the utility of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) to predict metastatic disease in a cohort of patients who presented with BR (Aragon-Ching, et. al. ASCO GU 2011;abstr 60). Methods: 33 pts enrolled from May 2010 to September 2011 with BR, defined as patients (pts) who have undergone primary treatment with PSA rise to >/= 0.2 from a prior undetectable level for prior prostatectomy or > 2 mg/dl rise from post-nadir radiotherapy, were included. PSA doubling time (PSADT), scan results, Gleason scores, age, testosterone levels were all obtained. CTCs were evaluated in 7.5 mL of peripheral blood using the CTC CellSearch test. BR patients with equivocal CT and/or bone scan results who were biopsiable and consentable underwent bone biopsy to confirm metastatic disease. Results: The median age for 33 patients was 71 y/o (range: 51 – 91), median PSA of 1.7 ng/mL (range 0.2 – 65.8), testosterone levels of 315.5 ng/dL (range: 31 – 727), Gleason score of 7, hemoglobin of 13.78 g/dL, BMI of 27.72 and alkaline phosphatase of 68 IU/L. Prostatectomy was the primary treatment in 23 pts, radiotherapy in 9 pts and Cyberknife in 1 pt. Median PSADT varied between 0.35 to 55.2 months. Only a small number of patients had either biopsy confirmed metastatic disease (n=2) or detectable CTC (n=3). Both of the 2 patients with metastatic disease had detectable CTC (sensitivity = 1.00, 95% CI: .34, 1.00). For the patients without signs or confirmation of metastatic disease, 30/31 had no detectable CTC (specificity = .97, 95% CI: .84, .99). Conclusions: While most pts with BR have negative blood CTCs, patients with detectable CTCs and equivocal findings on scans should raise suspicion and prompt a search for metastatic disease, given increasing available treatment options for metastatic prostate cancer. Ovarian cancer is one of the most lethal gynecological malignancies, because of metastatic dissemination with poor late clinical therapy. Maggots have been used in traditional Chinese medicine, where they are also known as ‘Wu Gu Chong’. Previous studies have indicated that maggot extract (ME) was beneficial for the treatment of gastric cancer when combined with other drugs, but the effect on anti-ovarian cancer and the underlying mechanism remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ME on suppressing the proliferation and migration of ovarian cancer cells, and to clarify the underlying mechanism. In this research, Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), colony formation assay, and luciferase-positive cell quantification assay were employed to identify the inhibitory effects of ME on cell proliferation. Then, the pro-apoptosis and anti-metastasis effects of ME were explored by Western blot, dual annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate/propidium iodide (FITC/PI) assay, immunofluorescent staining, and wound-healing assay. We further established a xenograft model by subcutaneously or intraperitoneally injecting BALB/c nude mice with SKOV3 cells stably expressing luciferase, and the mice were treated with ME. The results showed that ME therapy effectively restrained the growth and metastasis of ovarian tumors in vivo. Furthermore, the mRNA levels of cancer factors including heat shock protein 90 alpha family class B member 1 (HSP90AB1), MYC, and insulin like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R) were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR assay to explore the possible antitumor mechanisms of ME. Next, HSP90 ATPase activity was inhibited by geldanamycin in A2780, and the cell viability was shown to be dramatically reduced, decreasing further with the combination of ME and cisplatin. In turn, HSP90AB1 overexpression effectively inhibited the effect of ME in suppressing capability for cell viability and migration. In addition, HSP90AB1 overexpression limited the ability of ME to inhibit expression of MYC and IGF1R, while the opposite effect was observed for expression of pro-apoptosis protein caspase3 and BAX. Therefore, this study confirmed the potential roles and mechanisms of ME in inhibiting the growth and metastasis of ovarian tumors and promoting apoptosis of ovarian cancer cells by inhibiting overexpression of HSP90AB1.

Redox flow batteries (RFBs) are a promising technology for grid scale stationary energy storage to complement renewable energy systems. Although RFBs have a relatively low energy density, they offer important benefits such as long lifetime, decoupled energy and power, high round-trip efficiency, scalability and design flexibility, fast response and low environmental impacts. These benefits make them superior to many other stationary energy storage technologies [1-3]. The vanadium RFB (VRFB) is the most widely used RFB in industry for grid scale energy storage and for integration of renewable energy generation systems [4]. However, due to their slow redox reaction rates, their performance and stability are limited and VRFBs would thus benefit from enhancement of the electrode kinetics [5]. Various catalysts have been employed to improve the redox reaction rates [5-6]. Bismuth is considered a suitable candidate due to its good reactivity with oxygen, low toxicity, relatively low cost and comparable catalytic properties to other metal competitors [5, 7-8]. In this study, we present a novel modified VRFB electrode composed of carbonized bismuth-polyaniline (Bi-PANI) on a thermally-treated carbon paper substrate. The battery performance was evaluated in a 5 cm2 flow cell using a ‘zero-gap’ design with a 1.6 M VOSO4 in 3 M H2SO4 electrolyte. Charge-discharge of the VRFB was performed at a constant current density (ranging from 10 to 80 mA cm−2) with upper and lower voltage cut-offs of 1.65 and 0.8 V, respectively. Thermally treated carbon paper electrodes were tested as a comparison, and it was found that the VRFB efficiency was significantly enhanced, from 51% to 68% at a current density of 80 mA cm− 2, due to the modification of the electrodes with Bi-PANI. The charge-discharge capacity was also improved by around 17.2%. In addition, the stability of the battery using the modified electrodes was evaluated for over 200 cycles. The improved battery performance was attributed to the catalytic effect of the Bi particles on the VO2+/VO2 + and V2+/V3+ redox reactions leading to a significant increase in capacity, voltage, and energy efficiency. Unacceptable sagittal alignment and cement leakage are major concerns of percutaneous vertebroplasty when treating patients with painful vertebral osteoporotic compression fractures. To maintain the restored vertebral height and reduce the reliance on cement as the major stabilizer, an expandable vertebral augment system (EVA®) made of titanium alloy consisting of a rigid tube encased by a barrel with an anterior expansion mechanism was developed. The aim of the current study was to determine whether this novel design is as effective as existing procedures in terms of height restoration and biomechanical performance. Eight osteoporotic vertebrae (T12-L3) confirmed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry from two fresh-frozen human cadavers (70- and 72-year-old females) were used. Twenty-five percent reduced anterior wedge vertebral compression fractures were created using a material testing machine. Four randomized specimens were augmented with EVA® (Chang Gu Biotechnology Co. Ltd., Taipei city, Taiwan), and another four randomized specimens were augmented with OsseoFix® (AlphaTec Spine Inc., Carlsbad, CA, USA). The implant size and cement volume were controlled. The anterior vertebral body height (VBH) ratio and pre/postaugmented ultimate strength and stiffness were measured and compared. The mean anterior VBH restoration ratio was 8.54% in the EVA® group and 8.26% in the OsseoFix® groups. A significant difference from augmentation was measured in both groups (p < 0.05), but there was no significant difference between the EVA® and OsseoFix® groups in anterior VBH restoration. The ultimate strengths of the EVA® and OsseoFix® groups were 6071.4 ± 352.6 N and 6262.9 ± 529.2 N, respectively, both of which were statistically significantly higher than that of the intact group (4589.9 ± 474.6 N) (p < 0.05). The stiffnesses of the EVA®, OsseoFix®, and intact groups were 1087.2 ± 176.9, 1154.9 ± 168.9, and 1637.3 ± 340.8 N/mm, respectively, indicating that the stiffness was significantly higher in the intact group than in both the EVA® and OsseoFix® groups (p < 0.05). No significant differences were observed between the two augmentation procedures in height restoration or ultimate strength and stiffness. This novel EVA® system showed comparable height restoration and biomechanical performance to those of existing implants for human cadaveric osteoporotic compression fractures. Potential advantages of preventing cement posterior leakage and promoting cement interdigitation are expected with this ameliorated design.

Abstract Introduction Guidelines recommend chemoimmunotherapy and novel agents such as Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitors and B-cell lymphoma 2 inhibitors for the treatment of CLL. AE profiles differ across therapies, and management of AEs in patients with CLL treated with novel agents incurs burden on healthcare professionals (HCPs) and oncology practices. Time and personnel costs associated with AE management are not well understood for patients with CLL and are overlooked while assessing the value of oncology drugs. To assess practice burden, this study quantified HCP time and personnel costs related to AE management for patients with CLL who received a novel agent, either acalabrutinib, ibrutinib, or venetoclax. Methods HCPs (i.e., oncologists, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses) who actively treated ≥5 patients with CLL during the past year with &gt;1 patient receiving acalabrutinib, ibrutinib, or venetoclax in the past month were recruited through a physician panel vendor to participate in a longitudinal, observational, prospective survey. This study was conducted in two phases (November 2020-January 2021; April-June 2021). Over the 2-month data collection period, HCPs reported on a daily basis the time spent performing AE management activities for CLL patients receiving a novel agent, which included 1) interactions with patients in-person or via remote consultation (telephone, video, or email), 2) interactions with other HCPs, and 3) other management activities that did not include interactions with patients or other HCPs (e.g., recording notes in patient's charts, ordering lab tests). Mean time and personnel costs per AE management activity were summarized using descriptive statistics. Personnel costs (USD) were calculated by multiplying median wage information reported by the ureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment Statistics survey by HCP-reported time spent managing AEs. Results Among 49 HCPs enrolled in the survey, 36 (73%; Table 1) reported managing ≥1 AE during a total of 1,106 AE management activities (229 for acalabrutinib; 500 for ibrutinib; 377 for venetoclax) for 421 patients with CLL during the 2-month study period. Among all patients, 108 (26%), 186 (44%), and 129 (31%) received acalabrutinib, ibrutinib, or venetoclax in any line, respectively (Table 2). Anemia was the most frequently managed AE reported among all patients (19%), but differed by treatment: 11%, 19%, and 26% for patients treated with acalabrutinib, ibrutinib, and venetoclax, respectively (Table 2). Other AEs reported among ≥10% of patients with a reported AE management activity also differed by treatment. For acalabrutinib, this included only headache. For both ibrutinib and venetoclax patients, thrombocytopenia, diarrhea, and myalgia were managed in ≥10% of patients. For venetoclax patients, back pain and arthralgia were also managed in ≥10% of patients. Mean (standard deviation [SD]) time spent managing AEs per activity was 11.8 (7.7) minutes (min) overall, 12.1 (7.4) min for acalabrutinib, 11.6 (6.9) min for ibrutinib, and 11.8 (8.9) min for venetoclax (Table 3). Mean time per AE management activity was numerically similar across the three treatments overall and stratified by type of HCP, treatment duration, and line of therapy. We noted differences in the type of HCP managing AEs by treatment, with a lower proportion of oncologists managing acalabrutinib AEs compared to the other two therapies. Corresponding mean (SD) personnel costs per AE management activity were $16.0 ($10.6) overall, and $14.4 ($9.8) for acalabrutinib, $16.3 ($9.8) for ibrutinib, and $16.7 ($11.9) for venetoclax. Conclusions This study demonstrates the importance of accounting for time and labor costs related to AE management, as results suggest that the burden to HCPs related to AE management for patients with CLL treated with acalabrutinib, ibrutinib, and venetoclax is substantial. During the 2-month study period, almost three-quarters of HCPs reported managing ≥1 AEs and an average of 12 AE management days was observed across these HCPs. While mean time and personnel costs were similar, differences in types of AE and types of HCPs managing AEs were observed across treatments. Future research should confirm our observed differences in types of AE and types of HCPs managing AEs by treatment to comprehensively assess the burden of managing AEs for patients with CLL. Immediately after the liberation, the health care system debate was studied focusing on the orientation of the American and Soviet medical systems, roughly divided into Lee Yong-seol and Choi Eung-seok. However, the existence of people who are not explained in the American and Soviet health care systems’ orientation led to the need to reconsider the existing premise. Therefore, this study identifies the characters that were not explained in the perspective of existing studies, and reevaluates the arguments of Lee Yong-seol and Choi Eung-seok. This paper raises the following questions: First, what is the background of the policy orientation that Lee Yong-seol and Choi Eung-seok had? Second, if there are people who made different arguments from Lee Yong-seol and Choi Eung-seok, what direction did they set and argue? third, how the orientations of Lee Yong-seol and Choi Eung-seok and etc. converge into the answer to the Joint Soviet-American Commission? In response to theses questions, this study confirms the following: first, Lee Yong-seol’s and Choi Eung-seok’s health care policies were established based on realism and empiricism. As a policyholder, Lee Yong-seol emphasized withholding medical state administration and raising the level of medical education and medical systems according to the condition at that time, although the American system was mobilized by Lee as the basis for his judgment and administrative assets. On the other hand, Choi Eung-seok aimed for a Soviet-style systems in health care but this was realistically put on hold. Choi insisted on the establishment of the Medical Service Associations and rural cooperative hospitals that appeared in Japan’s medical socialization movement. In summary, immediately after the liberation, Lee Yong-seol’s and Choi Eung-seok’s policy arguments were based on policies that could be implemented in Korea, and the American system and Soviet system served as criteria for the policy resources. Second, Jeong Gu-chung and Kim Yeon-ju show that the topography of the health care debate immediately after the liberation was not represented only by Lee Yong-seol and Choi Eung-seok. Both Jeong and Kim were consequently led to medical socialization, which was the implementation of a health care system that encompasses social reform, but the context was different. Jeong drew the hierarchy of the health care system, which peaked in the United States, from the perspective of social evolution based on his eugenics, but the representation suitable for Korea was the Soviet model absorbed into his understanding. On the contrary, Kim argued that representations suitable for Korea should be found in Korea. As national medical care, Kim’s idea aimed at a medical state administration that provides equal opportunities for all Koreans. Third, the aspect of convergence to the Joint Soviet-American Commission reply proposal was complicated. Among the policies of Lee Yong-seol, the promotion of missionary medical institutions and the gradual planning of medical institutions converged into the three organizations’ proposal, and Choi Eung-seok’s policy was almost the same as that of the Democracy National Front and the South Korean Labor Party. However, the medical system of Japan, the colonial home country, appears to have been based on Lee Gap-soo, chairman of the Korean Medical Association in the colonial period, and the plan was in line with the use of the union system of the left-wing organizations’ proposal in the south. It was in accordance with a common task to expand health care from colonial conditions to different status.

In this contribution, a numerical study of the optical properties of closely-packed gold nanorods was performed. The studied nano-objects are experimentally grown on a tilted polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate by using physical vapor deposition (PVD). This method creates nanorods tilted to a certain angle with respect to the substrate normal. This geometry allows exciting both transverse and longitudinal modes of the rods. As demonstrated in a previous experimental work, such PVD-grown nano-objects show promising possibilities both as strain gauges or strain-tunable metamaterials if fabricated on a stretchable dielectric substrate. This numerical study is based on experimental data from previous work and pushes further the subject by approaching an optimized nano-structure allowing better strain-sensitivity (particularly by changing the auto-organization of the said nanorods). Rapid urbanization rates impact significantly on the nature of Land Cover patterns of the environment, which has been evident in the depletion of vegetal reserves and in general modifying the human climatic systems (Henderson, et al., 2017; Kumar, Masago, Mishra, & Fukushi, 2018; Luo and Lau, 2017). This study explores remote sensing classification technique and other auxiliary data to determine LULCC for a period of 50 years (1967-2016). The LULCC types identified were quantitatively evaluated using the change detection approach from results of maximum likelihood classification algorithm in GIS. Accuracy assessment results were evaluated and found to be between 56 to 98 percent of the LULC classification. The change detection analysis revealed change in the LULC types in Minna from 1976 to 2016. Built-up area increases from 74.82ha in 1976 to 116.58ha in 2016. Farmlands increased from 2.23 ha to 46.45ha and bared surface increases from 120.00ha to 161.31ha between 1976 to 2016 resulting to decline in vegetation, water body, and wetlands. The Decade of rapid urbanization was found to coincide with the period of increased Public Private Partnership Agreement (PPPA). Increase in farmlands was due to the adoption of urban agriculture which has influence on food security and the environmental sustainability. The observed increase in built up areas, farmlands and bare surfaces has substantially led to reduction in vegetation and water bodies. The oscillatory nature of water bodies LULCC which was not particularly consistent with the rates of urbanization also suggests that beyond the urbanization process, other factors may influence the LULCC of water bodies in urban settlements.
