Abstract:
Architectural historiography is seldom concerned with the antithetical notions of ‘noise’ and ‘silence’. In this case study, I tentatively explore the theme in the context of nineteenth-century administrative buildings. More particularly, I investigate the normative views of British and French authors concerning acoustic perception in one subtype of ‘bureaucratic’ architecture: the ministerial office building. Drawing examples from the work of, among others, ‘panopticon’ theorist Jeremy Bentham and the architect Julien Guadet, I point at the centrality of ‘sound control’ or ‘sound management’ in architectural discourses on office buildings. In the specific domain of ministerial offices, moreover, these discourses were rife with ideological views on the nature and the functioning of government itself.

Abstract:
Along with the explosion of user reviews on the Internet, sentiment analysis has becomeone of the trending research topics in the field of natural language processing. In the last five years, many shared tasks were organized to keep track of the progress of sentiment analysis for various lan-guages. In the Fifth International Workshop on Vietnamese Language and Speech Processing (VLSP2018), the Sentiment Analysis shared task was the first evaluation campaign for the Vietnamese lan-guage. In this paper, we describe our system for this shared task. We employ a supervised learningmethod based on the Support Vector Machine classifiers combined with a variety of features. Weobtained the F1-score of 61% for both domains, which was ranked highest in the shared task. For theaspect detection subtask, our method achieved 77% and 69% in F1-score for the restaurant domainand the hotel domain respectively.

Abstract:
AbstractRecently, there has been a lot of interest in the integration of Description Logics (DL) and rules on the Semantic Web. We defineguarded hybrid knowledge bases(org-hybrid knowledge bases) as knowledge bases that consist of a Description Logic knowledge base and aguardedlogic program, similar to the$\mathcal{DL}$+logknowledge bases from Rosati (In Proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Principles of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, AAAI Press, Menlo Park, CA, 2006, pp. 68–78.). g-Hybrid knowledge bases enable an integration of Description Logics and Logic Programming where, unlike in other approaches, variables in the rules of a guarded program do not need to appear in positive non-DL atoms of the body, i.e., DL atoms can act asguardsas well. Decidability of satisfiability checking of g-hybrid knowledge bases is shown for the particular DL$\mathcal{DLRO}^{\-{le}}$, which is close to OWL DL, by a reduction to guarded programs under the open answer set semantics. Moreover, we show 2-Exptime-completeness for satisfiability checking of such g-hybrid knowledge bases. Finally, we discuss advantages and disadvantages of our approach compared with$\mathcal{DL}$+logknowledge bases.

Abstract:
This paper defines a new concurrent logic language, Nested Guarded Horn Clauses (NGHC). The main new feature of the language is its concept of guard. In fact, an NGHC clause has several layers of (standard) guards. This syntactic innovation allows the definition of a complete (i.e. always applicable) set of unfolding rules and therefore of an unfolding semantics which is equivalent, with respect to the success set, to the operational semantics. A fixpoint semantics is also defined in the classic logic programming style and is proved equivalent to the unfolding one. Since it is possible to embed Flat GHC into NGHC, our method can be used to give a fixpoint semantics to FGHC as well.

Abstract:
We consider the following query answering problem: Given a Boolean conjunctive query and a theory in the Horn loosely guarded fragment, the aim is to determine whether the query is entailed by the theory. In this paper, we present a resolution decision procedure for the loosely guarded fragment, and use such a procedure to answer Boolean conjunctive queries against the Horn loosely guarded fragment. The Horn loosely guarded fragment subsumes classes of rules that are prevalent in ontology-based query answering, such as Horn ALCHOI and guarded existential rules. Additionally, we identify star queries and cloud queries, which using our procedure, can be answered against the loosely guarded fragment.

Abstract:
Guadua Angustifolia Kunth (Guadua) is a tropical species of bamboo endemic to South and Central America and widely used as a mainstream material for construction in Colombia. Its rapid rate of biomass production, renewability, high level of CO2 fixation and storage, wide diameter, long-length, and durability are distinctive and highly desirable features which can benefit the new built environment Research interest in Guadua construction increased significantly after many Guadua-constructed buildings withstood or suffered only minor damage during an earthquake which reached 6.2 on the Richter scale in 1999, resulting in the standardization of Guadua in the seismic-resistant Colombian code (NSR, 2010). However, Guadua buildings constructed in the Americas and other parts of the world, whilst considered to be sustainable, are not fully characterised in terms of the preparation, use and disposal of Guadua. Furthermore, workability, building durability and the construction process have not been specifically documented and evaluated. The structure, properties and availability of Guadua are described in this paper. A case study on a recently built holiday house is presented illustrating the architectural, structural, environmental and technical performance of a Guadua building. This paper presents the construction process, discusses difficulties encountered during the building life cycle and highlights the need for similar assessments. It is concluded that with the aim of achieving a low carbon construction system using Guadua bamboo, challenges regarding manufacture, bio-deterioration, integration with conventional systems, and environmental impacts must be addressed.
