This study was to compare the levels of physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) between Canadian and Guatemalan adolescents, and to examine associations of sociodemographic variables with PA and screen time among adolescents in Canada and Guatemala. Self-reported, cross-sectional data from students in grades 9–12 who participated in the 2015 COMPASS study (Canada; n = 39,817; mean age = 15.6 years) and COMPASS-Guatemala ( n = 1,221; mean age = 15.1 years) were used. Sociodemographic variables included age, gender, ethnicity (exclusively among Canadians), and weekly money allowance.

This study explores barriers and facilitators to cervical cancer screening among indigenous Maya women in Guatemala. Eight weeks of observation, active participation, informal interviews, and semistructured interviews with community organizers were analyzed using Leininger's 4-phase process to elucidate five themes: fear/shame, “machismo,” education/experience, cost, and self-love. Results suggest sustainable cervical cancer screening may be possible through cultural humility, collaboration, balance of power, and emancipatory praxis. The objective of this paper is to analize the role, for the case of Guatemala, that the ratio of female to male employment plays in the mobilization of internal savings, in the trade deficit, as well as in the economic growth constrained by the balance of payments model.
