Abstract:
Discrete Element Method was used to study the fertilizer guiding mechanism of double-row orchard ditching fertilizer to solve certain problems, such as the low uniformity of fertilization in orchard. Firstly, on the basis of studying the existing B fertilizer guiding mechanism, A and C fertilizer guiding mechanisms were proposed, and three virtual simulation models of the fertilizer guiding mechanism were established. Secondly, the physical parameters of the fertilizer particles were analysed, combined with the dynamic analysis of the falling process of the fertilizer particles, the dynamic model of the fertilizer particles in the three fertilizer guiding mechanisms was established. Finally, three kinds of fertilizer guiding mechanisms A, B and C were analyzed by the discrete element simulation experiment, and the C fertilizer guiding mechanism was the best. Then, the C fertilizer guiding mechanisms under different curvature radius were simulated, the discrete coefficients of the edge region and the middle region were used to evaluate the fertilizer uniformity, and the optimal curvature radius of the C fertilizer guiding mechanism was obtained. The results of simulation and prototype orchard experiments show that the dispersion coefficients of the edge region and the middle region of the C fertilizer guiding mechanism are the smallest, the uniformity of fertilization is the highest, the A fertilizer guiding mechanism is the second, the B fertilizer guiding mechanism is the lowest; in the C fertilizer guiding mechanism under different radius of curvature, when the radius of curvature is 600mm, the dispersion coefficients of the edge region and the middle region of the C fertilizer guiding mechanism are the smallest, and the fertilization uniformity is the highest; after the optimization, the discrete coefficient is reduced from 0.51 to 0.26, and the fertilization uniformity is increased by 49.02%. This study has significant potential to design and processing of orchard ditching fertilizer applicator.

Guide rails which take place in structure of elevator, are the important elements for safety of elevator systems. They have attached together end to end with the fishplates and bolts, and are anchored to wall with brackets. Connections between guide rails and brackets are provided by clips. To ensure the safe operation of elevators, the guide rails, fishplates, brackets, bolts, clips have enough strength against to loads and forces which affect these elements. In this study, shear tests are performed to examine mechanical properties of bolts and clips which are used guide rail anchor element. The results which are gained from stress calculations and experiments are compared and interpreted.

Guide ways of ultra-precision machine tools always have sufficient stiffness and guiding precision. But guide way rails deformation caused by oil film pressure and slider offset lead to oil film clearance change which affects static stiffness and guiding precision. An inside-slider hydrostatic guide way is designed, and its static characteristics are analyzed. As a result, the effect of slider offset on stiffness and guiding precisions is obtained. A FE model of guide way is established. An elastomer of virtual material properties is used to simulate oil film, so that the relationship between oil film clearance and pressure can be represented in a certain range. Static stiffness and guiding precision are obtained considering deformation of rails.

Abstract:
A quasi static finite element method for assessing cyclic bearing capacity of semi-circular guiding dike on natural or reinforced soft clay foundation is developed by combining the concept of cyclic shear strength with D-P yield criterion. Then the proposed method is numerically implemented in the framework of the large universal finite element software. Combining with a practical engineering, the stability of semi-circular guiding dike before and after foundation reinforcement is analyzed. The results showed that the foundation bearing capacity decreases obviously when cyclic weakening effect of soft foundation was considered, so cyclic weakening effect of soft foundation under cyclic wave load should be considered in practical design. Moreover, foundation reinforcement has an obvious effect to increase foundation bearing capacity.

Abstract:
Inspired by the operating principle of a tank’s track, we have developed a long-stroke spring guiding system with belt-shaped springs. Other than those characteristics of normal spring guides, the long-stroke spring guiding system has longer guided stroke and adjustable recovery force. To study the mechanical characteristics of the system, experiments and analyses are carried out. The finite element analysis software ABAQUS is applied to analyze the stress and the recovery force of the preloaded spring guiding during the guiding process, and the Buckingham pi theorem is utilized to investigate the complicated relationships among the geometric parameters, the working parameters, and the guiding properties. According to the analytical and experimental results, an efficient design process and design criteria for the guiding system are concluded and practically validated. Moreover, the system can be easily scaled down or modified to adapt to the applications in precision systems and microsystems due to its simple form and great variability.

Abstract:
Visual navigation elements can make or break a game. Therefore we have conducted a study of how to achieve intuitive visual navigation using four visual guiding elements, namely lighting, color, saturation and object placement. We have used these elements to create a visual language for a level, and have had a number of respondents play the level whilst commenting. The results have been as predicted, that light gives the strongest guidance, and that the respondents reacted to, and was guided by, named elements.

This work aims to create a didactic sequence to the subject of philosophy in highschool. To achieve it, we define the notion of philosophical act and expose ten elements (among many other possible) that can be used as reference for the construction of a series of classes. Then, it is proposed a didactic sequence followed by an experience report. Finally, we approach the two previous parts, identifying relationships between them.

The existence of contaminated sites is one of the most important environmental issues due to its complexity and implications on human health and the environment. Unlike what is true for air pollution, and surface water, there is no standardized international approach for soil pollution. As a result, the environmental agency should establish guiding values that enable legal action to control inputs of chemicals in the soil. In Brazil, the values for the management of contaminated areas were established by CONAMA Resolution No. 420 of December 28, 2009: background value (VRQ), value of prevention (VP) and investigation value (VI). The last one is the concentration of a substance in the soil above which there are potential risks, direct or indirect, to human health, considering a standard exposure scenario, as defined by methods for evaluating risk to human health. This assessment is used to estimate the risk to human health caused by human exposure to a particular substance or group of substances present in the physical environment and to determine concentrations that direct intervention measures. The present study aimed to derive investigation value to trace elements in soils of the State of Minas Gerais based methods of risk assessment to human health. For the derivation of the investigation value were defined usage scenarios and land use (agricultural, residential and industrial), exposure pathways that represent the path of the contaminant from the source of contamination to the receiver and the equations of risk quantification. We conducted a survey of the parameters of the physical medium and exposure parameters for the State of Minas Gerais from processes of contaminated areas managed by the State Environmental Agency (FEAM) and in academic studies and surveys on the physico-chemical and toxicological parameters of the elements considered in international database. To calculate the investigation value were considered three leads shunts: 1) only the exposure routes of direct contact (topsoil): Inhalation of vapors and particulates, dermal contact, ingestion of soil and vegetable intake; 2) all routes of exposure to the dilution factor for leaching (LDF) = 1,19, which influences the exposure route ingestion of groundwater from the contaminated subsurface soil leaching and 3) all routes of exposure with the Dilution Factor Leaching (LDF) = 10, value adopted by CETESB in 2001 to calculate the investigation value that are currently used by CONAMA. We also performed a sensitivity analysis in order to identify the range of investigationvalues as a function of the physical parameters specific to the state. The more restricting investigation values were obtained from the DFT = 1.19, followed by the ones obtained with the DFT = 10 and less restrictive values were obtained when considering only direct contact. The values calculated in this research work, generally are different from those used currently by the State of Minas Gerais. It should be kept in mind that the values currently used in the state were derived assuming a risk assessment methodology different from that used in this study. According to the sensitivity analysis the investigation value are directly proportional to the Darcy velocity and inversely proportional to the porosity and rate of seepage into the soil. The most sensitive parameter was the rate of water infiltration into the soil.

Recently, all people emphasize the environmental friendly concepts. The green industry is fast developing. More and more company are taking plunge in all kinds of green products to sell. Among these products, the so-called Sun Guiding System is one of the most environmental and cleanest part worth for us to exploit. If we are able to guide natural light from outside to inside to illuminate our indoor spaces, we can say good bye to electricity, save energy, and save money from our pockets. The Sun Guiding System is composed of the modules, namely, sun collection, transmission, and emission. This paper is focused on the emission module that includes a TIR lens specially designed for optical- fiber to connect and emit natural light for commercial lighting by the tool of optical simulation software. Hopefully through the above simulation and study, an appropriate optical device – lens for optical-fiber can be designed to adjust the illuminance, to prevent glare, or to adjust the light angles, and then apply to different business stores, such as coffee shop, cloth shops or even bookstores.

There can be no valorisation of the truffle system without a sufficient awareness of the chain that brings the truffle from the ground to the consumer. This in fact renders explicit the link between the product and the territory of origin, eliminating disparities at the level of information between the consumer and the gatherer/producer/transformer. In this case, the value of the product is increased to the extent that along with it we also acquire the quality of the environment that produces it. The research that is presented in this volume offers valid elements of orientation, both for those working in the sector and for the public sector, to which it offers knowledge useful for the defence of the local product and for guiding sector policies.

Abstract:
Most of the papers collected in this book resulted from presentations and discussions undertaken during the V Lablita Workshop that took place at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, on August 23-25, 2011. The workshop was held in conjunction with the II Brazilian Seminar on Pragmatics and Prosody. The guiding themes for the joint event were illocution, modality, attitude, information patterning and speech annotation. Thus, all papers presented here are concerned with theoretical and methodological issues related to the study of speech. Among the papers in this volume, there are different theoretical orientations, which are mirrored through the methodological designs of studies pursued. However, all papers are based on the analysis of actual speech, be it from corpora or from experimental contexts trying to emulate natural speech. Prosody is the keyword that comes out from all the papers in this publication, which indicates the high standing of this category in relation to studies that are geared towards the understanding of major elements that are constitutive of the structuring of speech.

Contemporary jus ad bellum theories are too restricted in the range of issues they explore. They typically fail to ascertain the best directly action-guiding norms leaders should follow in deciding to go to war (these may differ from elements of objective justifications), morally evaluate institutional procedures by which leaders make the decision to go to war, determine the proper division of labour between institutional procedures and directly action-guiding norms for recourse to war decisions, morally evaluate the recourse to war decisions leaders make, provide an account of the virtues of leaders relevant to their decisions to go to war, evaluate leaders’ public acts of justification for going to war, evaluate social practices regarding what counts as a legitimate type of justification for going to war, and evaluate domestic and international law regarding recourse to war. Merely determining what makes recourse to war acts right does not answer these questions.

This anthology expands the perspectives of academic research on Europe. In the contributions it contains, which examine issues at the points where the humanities, cultural studies and the social sciences overlap, the diversity of critical and reflective analysis becomes clear, which in particular makes Europe’s cultural profile visible. They encourage discussion on the guiding principles of European integration, but above all on an image of Europe in which Europeanisation is understood as a process of permanent opening. Accordingly, Europeanisation is not simply the product of national conceptualisations, but focuses on the roots and elements of European common ground. This volume sets new standards in future research on Europe and puts them forward for discussion.

Thirdly, to the acclaim of voters, German policy is committed to the goal of price stability. Is the debt brake compatible with these three guiding principles of German economic policy? I doubt it. In the German discussion, public debt is only seen in a negative light—wrongly, as I will show.

This paper provides a guide for developing a research design for comparative studies in adult and continuing education. To that end, a research methodology will be presented that was developed at the COMPALL and INTALL Winter Schools on Comparative Studies in Adult Education and Lifelong Learning. Central elements for systematic comparisons in adult and continuing education are (1) the object of comparison, (2) research fields for comparison, and (3) inductive comparative categories. These elements form the reference points for the development of a comparative research question in adult and continuing education. The comparative analysis proposes a three-step approach from juxtaposition to interpretation: step 1 – descriptive juxtaposition; step 2 – analytical juxtaposition; and step 3 – analytical interpretation.

Abstract:
Medical education programs must deliver valued results that stakeholders expect in return for their funding investments. In the past, healthcare organizations accepted reports about test results and participant perceptions of the program as adequate evidence of course outcomes. Today, program funders expect evaluations that provide evidence that medical education programs improve organizational excellence measures to justify ongoing funding. This chapter will explain four of the five elements required of a proven, comprehensive evaluation system. This five-element system is necessary to provide the desired organizational excellence evidence that medical educators can adopt to address the needs of stakeholders at different levels of an organization. Specifically, this chapter will overview an evaluation framework, a process model, and guiding principles that are crucial elements of this methodology. The chapter ends with a case study that shows how a medical education team used this measurement and evaluation methodology to plan how they would design and evaluate a medical education program requested by executives to solve an ICU central line infection problem.

Abstract:
Designing serious games is a complex process because finding the right balance between the ‘serious' and the ‘game' dimensions is vital, as pointed out in some meta-analyses (Wouters, et al. 2013). If educational content prevails over the entertainment element, users' motivation may decrease and this can have a negative impact on the effectiveness of learning. On the other hand, if entertainment predominates over content, this can also limit learning opportunities. Another major concern identified regarding the use of digital games in education is the difficulty in assessing effectiveness in achieving the learning goals. This chapter discusses and analyses different models for guiding the design cycle of serious games with the aim of supporting not only the design process but also the implementation and assessment of serious games in education. This contribution emphasises the importance of in-game assessment and the need for further research on adaptive serious games.

Abstract:
Many students face the prospect of working in teams with apprehension. This feeling is further magnified when most or all of the sensory cues are removed in the virtual environment. We argue that by adopting specific structural and situational strategies, instructors can substantially reduce the levels of uncertainty that usually surround the idea of virtual teamwork in students’ minds. Such strategies are drawn from an exploration of the notion of trust as a key element for the successful performance of teams, as well as on a discussion of the concepts of swift trust, community of practice, and control as guiding principles for the establishment of practices that help build mutual reliance among virtual team members in an online classroom. We conclude with some suggestions that can be implemented at the micro level of the course and the macro level of the institution hosting distance and online learning experiences.

Abstract:
The second element in Pessoa’s philosophical method is that of impartial analysis. Pessoa’s technique of deliberately guiding the attention to one’s own experience, and, specifically, to the outputs of ‘dreaming’ or enactive imagination, has a modern echo in the psychological technique of descriptive experience sampling. Pessoan analysis is a sort of ongoing and self-cued application of descriptive experience sampling, directed less at the intentional content of one’s thoughts as at the phenomenal character of one’s experience. His description of an analytical attention to one’s own mental state might be held to constitute a theory of introspection. It is one which while claiming that introspection is based on attention also emphasizes the idea that introspection transforms the state of which one becomes aware, for example by intensifying, enriching, and sharpening it. I consider, and refute, two sorts of challenge to Pessoa’s analytical phenomenology, from choking and from transformative experience.

Abstract:
Early intervention refers to programs developed for infants and young children with developmental delays or inadequacies or who are at risk group, and their families. The aim of the early intervention is providing services for children with disabilities, minimizing their developmental delay and disability levels and guiding parents for positive development of children. Early intervention includes extremely important studies for children in need of developmental support and their families. The effective early intervention treatment requires a gradual progress, teamwork with a multidisciplinary approach, and family should be considered as the most important element of the treatment and participate in the decision-making at every phase, alongside effective use of the Individualized Family Service Plan and updating the plan when it is necessary. It should be noted that early intervention is an ongoing process. In this process, the family and the child should be considered as a whole and supported in a holistic way.

Full text
Abstract:
The dynamic response of an axially translating continuum subjected to the combined effects of a pair of spring supported frictional guides and axial acceleration is investigated; such systems are both non-conservative and gyroscopic. The continuum is modeled as a tensioned string translating between two rigid supports with a time dependent velocity profile. The equations of motion are derived with the extended Hamilton’s principle and discretized in the space domain with the finite element method. The stability of the system is analyzed with the Floquet theory for cases where the transport velocity is a periodic function of time. Direct time integration using an adaptive step Runge-Kutta algorithm is used to verify the results of the Floquet theory. Results are given in the form of time history diagrams and instability point grids for different sets of parameters such as the location of the stationary load, the stiffness of the elastic support, and the values of initial tension. This work showed that presence of friction adversely affects stability, but using non-zero spring stiffness on the guiding force has a stabilizing effect.

Abstract:
This paper presents a novel straight-line self-guiding statically-balanced mechanism which reflects on the advantages of lumped compliant mechanisms. The forthcoming structural design is conceived with an energy approach for static balancing of mechanisms. In this paper the application and effectiveness of the energy approach as a synthesis tool is validated. Moreover the paper demonstrates the translation from pseudo-rigid body model to lumped compliance in statically-balanced mechanisms. A physical prototype and a finite-element model served to evaluate the conceptual design. Manufacturing techniques are suggested for rapid, light-weight and cost-efficient prototyping. The presented self-guiding mechanism is statically-balanced along its straight-line range of motion while showing stable behavior in other directions.

Abstract:
Common part failures in tube hydroforming include wrinkling, premature fracture, and unacceptable part surface quality. Some of these failures are attributed to the inability to optimize tribological conditions. There has been an increasing demand for the development of effective lubricants for tube hydroforming, due to widespread application of this process. This paper presents an analytical model of the guiding zone tribotest commonly used to evaluate lubricant performance for tube hydroforming. Through a mechanistic approach, a closed-form solution for the field variables contact pressure, effective stress/strain, longitudinal stress/strain, and hoop stress can be computed. The analytical model was validated by the finite element method. In addition to determining friction coefficient, the expression for local state of stress and strain on the tube provides an opportunity for in-depth study of the behavior of lubricant and associated lubrication mechanisms. The model can aid as a quick tool for iterating geometric variables in the design of a guiding zone, which is an integral part of tube hydroforming tooling.

Full text
Abstract:
In order to increase the welding pressure of the hollow Al7075 tube in extrusion process, a special die feature has been created. Several different proportions of chamber structure in outlet of extrusion die have been designed. The finite element analysis software DEFORM 3D to analyze various design parameters on the load–displacement and the welding pressure have been studied. Comparing to 6000 series, 7000 series aluminum alloy have good material properties, including excellent strength and toughness especially for hollow aluminum extrusion products in terms of Al7075. However, in extruded hollow aluminum alloy products, the industry’s common use is 6000 series material, except for indirectly extruded seamless pipe, Al7075 can be found. This is because of less welding pressure can be provided by using the traditional die structures in Al7075 hollow products. Therefore, to use the directly extruded seam tube of Al7075 in high-yield and high-quality, to increase the welding pressure and improve the quality of welding products becomes a very important issue. In this study, a different high proportion in material guiding chamber has been defined. The same angle both on the exit of female die and the bearing of male die which can be integrated into a material guiding chamber has been designed. Therefore, the welding pressure can be increased due to the change of metal flow behavior that is after a complete fill in material guiding chamber, and then metal can flow out of die bearing surface. The results showed that welding pressure can be increased rapidly if a suitable material guiding chamber has been built. Among them, the ratio of chamber height and length is 2:1; the increased welding pressure is most significant.

Abstract:
Abstract The numerical investigation of the flow and heat transfer characteristics from arrays of impinging jets with the roughed target surface is presented in this paper. Three novel streamlined roughness elements are proposed: similar round protuberance, similar trapezoidal straight rib, and similar trapezoidal curved rib. The jet Reynolds number ranges from 15000 to 30000, the protuberance height is h/H = 0.36, the rib height is h/H = 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7 respectively. The results show that the protuberance can shorten the nozzle to the stagnation point distance, increasing the heat transfer at the stagnation point by nearly 40%. The rib has a remarkable effect of guiding the flow in span-wise direction and away from the target surface, weakening the cross-flow effect. The straight rib gets a better guidance performance, the curved rib provides a larger surface area. An appropriate increase of rib height can improve local heat transfer, continuing to increase mainly enlarge heat transfer area. The decent aerodynamic shape decreases the flow discharge coefficient by only 2% at the rib height of 0.3H.

Abstract:
Abstract In the present paper, we take the leaf spring based double parallel-guiding mechanism (DPGM) as a particular case study to investigate a parametric model by considering the stress stiffening effect of the temperature variation based on the beam constraint model (BCM). In particular, a model with the temperature variation term of the DPGM is derived by incorporating the elastic stretch induced by the thermal effect of the leaf spring flexure into the BCM. Different from the traditional BCM, the compliance calculated by the established model is no longer only affected by the external loads, but the thermal deformation generated by the temperature variation. Therefore the derived model can describe both the load-nonlinearity and the thermal-nonlinearity. Based on the analysis results of a basic parallelogram module (BPM), we obtain a model of the DPGM, and the finite element analysis (FEA) method is adopted to verify the proposed model. The proposed model is a general parametric method to characterize the mechanical property of the DPGM, which can be further explored to support the optimization and control of motion systems composed of leaf spring based compliant mechanisms.

Abstract:
Development of deep water oil reservoirs are undertaken in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) where the flowlines are installed in the water depths in excess of 3,050m (10,000ft). Deepwater external pressure becomes so significant that it makes local buckling or accidental collapse propagate along the pipeline. Such propagation will not stop until it reaches a region where the external pressure falls below the propagating pressure or where the pipe wall is strengthened. Field data indicates that once a buckle happens, the flowline could collapse many kilometers instantly. It concludes that buckle propagation could cause substantial economical impact if left uncontrolled. For pipe-in-pipe (PIP) flowline, due to lack of pressure differential, the outer pipe becomes a fragile component in terms of buckle propagation. One way to prevent the propagation of local buckling or collapse is to utilize the buckle arrestors of various types. Clamp-on buckle arrestor is so far the best choice for the flowlines to be installed by the Reel-Lay method. The objective of this paper is to present the results of a finite element (FE) study, to reveal the phenomena of collapsing/propagating of the pipe-in-pipe flowline, and to investigate the effectiveness of Clamp-on buckle arrestor for deep water flowlines. Sensitivities of key design parameters are explored with the purpose of guiding detail mechanical design of the clamp-on buckle arrestor.

Abstract:
In the present paper, we take the complaint double parallel guiding mechanism as a particular case study to investigate a modified pseudo-rigid-body (MPRB) modeling approach for beam flexure based mechanisms by considering the nonlinear effects of the center-shift and the load-stiffening. In particular, through incorporating the elastic stretch of the beam flexure into the linear Bernoulli-Euler equation, a more accurate model of the beam flexure is derived. Accordingly an MPRB model for a beam flexure is established, which consists of two rigid links joined at a revolute joint and a torsional spring along the beam. Different from traditional PRB model, the location of the torsion spring is not only determined by the characteristic radius factor, but also a purely elastic stretch under the action of the axial force. Meanwhile, both the characteristic radius factor and the equivalent stiffness of the beam flexure are no longer constant values, but affected by the applied general tip load, especially the axial force. Based on the analysis results of a beam flexure, we obtain a more accurate model of the double parallel guiding mechanisms, which is further verified by the finite element analysis (FEA) results. The proposed MPRB model provides a more parametric method to predict the performance characteristics such as deformation capability, stiffness variation, as well as error motions of the beam flexure based complaint mechanisms, and offers a new look into the design and optimization of beam-based compliant mechanisms.

Abstract:
The Zanzibar Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT) and the World Bank (the Bank) approached the EdTech Hub (the Hub) in April 2020 to explore the feasibility of implementing a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). The Hub was requested to focus primarily on the deployment of a VLE in lower secondary education, and this report consequently focuses primarily on this group. The report is structured in four sections: An introduction to provide the background and guiding principles for the engagement with a short overview of the methodology applied. An analysis of the Zanzibar education system with a particular focus on elements relevant to deploying a VLE. This includes the status of ICT infrastructure, and a summary of the stakeholders who will play a role in using or implementing a VLE. A third section that discusses types of VLEs and content organisation, and their applicability to the Zanzibar ecosystem. A conclusion with recommendations for Zanzibar, including short- and long-term steps. In this collaboration with Zanzibar’s MoEVT, the Hub team sought to understand the purpose of the proposed VLE. Based on discussions and user scenarios, we identified two main education challenges a VLE may help to resolve. In the short term, students cannot go to school during the COVID-19 crisis, but need access to educational content. There is content, but no flexible and versatile platform to disseminate content to all students. In the long term, a mechanism to provide students with access to quality, curriculum-aligned content in school, or remotely, is required.
