Abstract:
Research was made in order to design a good reciprocating oilless air compressor. Grease lubrication bearings are used in connecting rod larger heads, smaller heads and main shaft necks, its structures are designed, so the oilless lubrications are achieved over there. Self-lubricating materials are used to make piston pings and guiding pings, the lap-joint structure is used in piston pings, so the problems of oilless lubrication and seal between piston component and cylinders can be solved. The structure of unloading slots for guiding pings, smaller radius-length ratios and lower pressure ratios can make piston pings and guiding pings run long time. Series products of oilless air compressors which are made as above have gone into mass production.

Abstract:
Optimization of 5-rod Car Suspension for Elastokinematic and Dynamic CharacteristicsThe paper presents optimization of 5-rod (5-link) suspension mechanism used in passenger cars for independent guiding of the wheels. Selected stiffness coefficients defined for five elastomeric bushings installed in joints of the suspension rods are considered as design variables. Two models with lumped parameters (i.e. elastokinematic and dynamic) of wheel-suspension-car body system are formulated to describe relationships between the design variables and the performance indexes including car active safety and ride comfort, respectively. The multi-criteria goal function is minimized using a deterministic algorithm. The suspension with optimized bushings rates fulfils desired elastokinematic criteria together with a defined dynamic criterion, describing the so-called rolling comfort. An event of car passing over short road bump is considered as dynamic conditions. The numerical example deals with an actual middle-class passenger car with 5-rod suspension at the front driven axle. Estimation of the models parameters and their verification were carried out on the basis of indoor and outdoor experiments. The proposed optimization procedure can be used to improve the suspension design or development cycle.

Abstract:
One new sliding-block balancing mechanism is proposed for the single-cylinder diesel engine. In the new mechanism, the sliding block is installed against the engine piston. The reciprocation trajectory of sliding block is collinear with the piston trajectory, while sliding block and piston move in the opposite direction, just like two opposite crank connecting rods. The new mechanism includes the crankshaft, connecting rod ring, the slider and the guide components. Through the bearing, connecting rod is installed in the eccentric journal of the crankshaft. The circular connecting rod is in the accurate guiding surface of the slider; and the guide pins are in the guide groove. Guide rod connects with supporting shaft through the guide hole of the slide. The optimized parameters for the sliding block show that the ratio of eccentric distance of the eccentric journal to the length of the connecting rod is equal to the ratio of crank radius to connecting rod length. The appropriate results can balance both the centrifugal inertia force and the reciprocating inertia force generated by piston group. Even the complete balance of the first and second-order reciprocating inertia forces can be obtained, which can reduce the vibration and noise of diesel engine.

Abstract:
Sight-stabilizing mechanisms controlled by diaphragm springs and other damping elements is an important subordinate system of airborne sight stabilizing System. The performances of sight-stabilizing system depend on the characteristics of kinematics and dynamics of the system in a great extent. Among various external moments acting on the rod of the manipulator, such as those moments caused by damper, positioning spring, and restoration spring, the forces by diaphragm springs are most obvious. According to the structure form and motion peculiarity, the rod can be equivalent to a rigid body turning around a fix point. Simulation results reveal that the moment of the restoration spring to the rod is proportional to the angular displacement, and that the moment is the most prominent factor influencing the operating performances among all these moments. Through reasonable adjustments of structural parameters of the restoration spring, the performances of the sight-stabilizing system can be improved greatly; the analysis method provides a basis for guiding the design of concerned structural parameters of sight-stabilizing system.

Abstract:
Abstract In order to improve quality and reveal the law of precision forging, closed-die forging technology is used in this paper to conduct a numerical analysis of the forming process of aluminum alloy connecting rod by the DEFORM software. Forming effects under different loading modes were acquired, and forming process, blank flow characteristics, stress-strain distribution and load-stroke curve characteristics were analyzed. Study results indicate that the forming effect under the loading mode featuring first movement of lateral punch and then movement of upper and lower punches is good with high quality forge piece and no defect, the closed-die forging technology of aluminum alloy connecting rod is reasonable and feasible. Under a certain deformation velocity and deformation mode, aluminum alloy connecting rod forming load firstly reduces and then increases, the forming load is in direct proportion to deformation velocity. When the forming process is finished, forming load reaches 130T, it accords with the production practice. The study results provide a certain reference for guiding the formulation of closed-die forging production technology of aluminum alloy connecting rods.

Historically it has been assumed that nationalism and cosmopolitanism were opposite tendencies, and that strengthening national identity weakens the sense of global belonging, and vice versa. The analysis of the World Scouting case, though, contradicts this: it is a non-governmental movement with citizenship education as its aim, with a presence in 165 countries on the 5 continents, assembling almost 30 million children and youth. Since its formalization as a world organization in 1920, it has combined its educational action with local rooting, national identity, and the sense of global belonging, through living together in diversity. All previous studies have centered on national cases, but World Scouting has never been analyzed as a whole before: its historical and ideological consistency, the quantification of its world dimension since 1920, the coherence of its practices and the capacity of its actions to create social change.

With the increasing income and level of living standards, people are willing to spend more leisure time in tour activities. As the scenic spots grow more and more, it has become a major issue for tourists to travel to an unfamiliar spot in an easy way. Tourists usually find the way to the spot by consulting the map. While the map can show the shortest path, tourists often find that extra tips showing important roads surrounding the scenic spot will help. Based on the Dijkstra shortest path algorithm, this work aims to provide such a schematic road map around the desired spot. Given the address of a scenic spot in Taiwan, its latitude and longitude are first found by Google Map. Then based on the Institute of Transportation (IOT) Road Network Digital Atlas, a surrounding box around the desired spot and its entry points are identified on the high-level road network. Finally the nearest access points of the national and provincial highways are located and the access paths are shown from those access points to the desired spot. For depiction of the algorithms used, a test spot in the Kaohsiung area is selected. Other demonstrations include spots in urban and suburban areas of Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, Hualien and Taitung, and Butai. There are 3 features in this work. First, in terms of problem definition, it focuses on generation of the high-level surrounding box instead of the traditional simplification on road shape and length. Second, in terms of algorithmic novelty, it proposes several Dijkstra-based algorithms for generation of guiding roads. They include algorithms which generate the nearby high-level surrounding box, find the nearest national and provincial highway access points, mark the path leading from the access points to the surrounding box,and restore the proper low-level road network connecting the surrounding box to the desired spot inside. Third, in terms of system integration, this work has completed a prototypical system which can input the spot address, query its coordinate by Google Map, identify the nearest intersection, and run the proposed algorithms mentioned above to generate a useful guiding road map for scenic spots.

The object of this research is to present the experience of teaching hearing impaired students Playback Theatre. The narrative study included observations, teaching journals, interviews with the participant students and other teachers. The results of the research indicated that the teacher who was unable to use Sign Language had a difficult time holding the students’ attention due to barriers in communication. Deaf students have an advantage when playing Playback Theatre in terms of observing or imitating other people’s facial expression and movement. However, it is not so easy for them to grasp the abstract concept. The best position of deaf actors in Playback Theatre is the down-left stage, so they can see the teller and the other actors at the same time. Based on the teaching experience and personal reflections, some suggestions are made for improving the teaching of Playback Theatre to hearing impaired students and deaf education.

Road construction is a basic task for a nation’s public construction. Along with the demands of economical development, the increasing road constructions will inevitably affect the ecology of natural environment. Therefore, for protecting the natural environment in terms of establishing an artificial environment, one essential issue raised while utilizing the ideals of ceotechnology in road construction is how to ensure the ecology of environment as a basis and safety as a trend in order to eliminate the harmfulness to the ecosystem. This study considers the execution of the life cycle each stage in road construction as a basis. The purpose of the study is to explore the modes that execute life cycle each stage in road construction as applying the concept of ceotechnology in practice. The researcher reviewed ceotechnology related literature and case studies of Taiwan and foreign countries and identified the appropriate definition of ceotechnology, related regulations and policies, case studies, and research findings. Based on the understanding of road construction on the ecological environment, the researcher generated several ideals and principles for establishing the loop of mode and the chart of evaluation to put into the practice. After the implementation of the aforementioned procedures, the findings evidenced that the modes established in executing life cycle each stage is suitable for road construction with limited time and budget while using the concept of ceotechnology. The limitations of this study include small scale, limited time period for investigation, and lack of in-depth analyses on Taiwan’s road construction database, criteria for evaluation, and related correlation. For future research, collecting large scales of examples, conducting longitudinal study, and performing in-depth review and analysis in case studies will improve the generalization of the research.

Abstract:
Early in the nineteenth century, British Quakers broke through a century-long hedge of Quietism which had gripped their Religious Society since the death of their founding prophet, George Fox. After 1800, the majority of Friends in England and Ireland gradually embraced the evangelical revival, based on the biblical principle of Jesus Christ’s atoning sacrifice as the effective source of salvation. This evangelical vision contradicted early Quakerism’s central religious principle, the saving quality of the Light of Christ Within (Inward Light) which led human beings from sinful darkness into saving Light. The subsequent, sometimes bitter struggles among British Quakers turned on the question of whether the infallible Bible or leadings from the Light should be the primary means for guiding Friends to eternal salvation. Three of the most significant upheavals originated in Manchester. In 1835 Isaac Crewdson, a weighty Manchester Friend, published A Beacon to the Society of Friends which questioned the authority of the Inward Light and the entire content of traditional Quaker ministry as devoid of biblical truth. The ensuing row ended with Crewdson and his followers separating from the Friends. Following this Beacon Separation, however, British Quakerism was increasingly dominated by evangelical principles. Although influenced by J.S. Rowntree’s Quakerism, Past and Present, Friends agreed to modify their Discipline, a cautious compromise with the modern world. During the 1860s a new encounter with modernity brought a second upheaval in Manchester. An influential thinker as well as a Friend by marriage, David Duncan embraced, among other advanced ideas, higher criticism of biblical texts. Evangelical Friends were not pleased and Duncan was disowned by a special committee investigating his views. Duncan died suddenly before he could take his fight to London Yearly Meeting, but his message had been heard by younger British Friends. The anti-intellectual atmosphere of British Quakerism, presided over by evangelical leader J.B. Braithwaite, seemed to be steering Friends towards mainstream Protestantism. This tendency was challenged in a widely read tract entitled A Reasonable Faith, which replaced the angry God of the atonement with a kinder, gentler, more loving Deity. A clear sign of changing sentiments among British Friends was London Yearly Meeting’s rejection of the Richmond Declaration (1887), an American evangelical manifesto mainly written by J.B. Braithwaite. But the decisive blow against evangelical dominance among Friends was the Manchester Conference of 1895 during which John Wilhelm Rowntree emerged as leader of a Quaker Renaissance emphasizing the centrality of the Inward Light, the value of social action, and the revival of long-dormant Friends’ Peace Testimony. Before his premature death in 1905, J.W. Rowntree and his associates began a transformation of British Quakerism, opening its collective mind to modern religious, social, and scientific thought as the means of fulfilling Friends’ historic mission to work for the Kingdom of God on earth. During the course of the nineteenth century, British Quakerism was gradually transformed from a tiny, self-isolated body of peculiar people into a spiritually riven, socially active community of believers. This still Dissenting Society entered the twentieth century strongly liberal in its religious practices and passionately confident of its mission ‘to make all humanity a society of Friends’.

Abstract:
The link between human rights and public budgets is both evident and controversial. It is evident in the sense that in practise, the realization of all human rights is tied to the drafting and implementation of budgets. It is, however, also controversial in that there is plenty of contestation around the nature of obligations human rights set on state budgeting. This is caused partly by the indeterminate nature of human rights: instead of clear quantified standards, human rights set general guiding principles for public budgeting. This chapter examines the challenging road ahead for ‘budgeting for human rights’. More specifically, the chapter will focus on four key challenges that emerge in deliberation towards human rights compatible pubic budgets: transparency, compliance, siloed governance, and participation.

Abstract:
In this article, we study mixing in a fuel rod bundle geometry used in VVER-440 type pressurized water reactors. The flow inside the fuel assembly under normal operation is simulated using the FLUENT 6.3 computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver. Steady state one phase Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes modeling is applied with two-equation turbulence models. In the first part of the article, grid independence is studied using a small submodel of the fuel rod bundle. In the second part, flow across a full-length fuel rod bundle is simulated both with constant temperature and with prescribed heat fluxes at the rod walls. Finally, in the third part of the article, we study how guiding vanes included in the spacer grids would enhance mixing in the hottest subchannels. We propose that having four guiding vanes on each side of the hexagonal spacer grid would produce most mixing in the desired locations of the fuel rod bundle.
