Although the domains - as fields of meaning - are defined in contrast to each other, there exists no necessary logical or functional relation between them. The particular configuration of cultural domains is the result of a society's specific history, in which non-cultural factors play a major role. The three dominant c

Abstract The problems faced by a hypothetical planet with only one species strongly suggest that any functioning ecological system must have organisms from at least two major ecological guilds: autotrophs and decomposers. While conventional predators do not seem to be crucial to planetary ecologies, it is likely that parasites will quickly evolve, and through density-dependent processes help to regulate population sizes. Density dependence may be crucial in preventing the runaway population growth of a species, leading to it monopolizing a planet's ecology. While density-independent processes

Abstract:
One of the most important ways to reduce Atmospheric carbon is the carbon sequestration by trees. In this study, by using some morphological characteristics of the root and stem of Oak seedling the carbon sequestration evaluated. For this purpose, one hundred seedlings were sampled by method of Systematic-Random from the planting bed on March 2022 in the Pylambra nursery at Guilan province. Seedlings are divided to three grades small, medium and large according to Root Collar Diameter (RCD). The biomass and carbon sequestration of Oak seedling calculated according to the basic density of its r

Changes in land use and destruction of natural covers lead to disturbances in the ecosystem and a decrease in biodiversity. In recent years, climate change, agricultural, industrial, and tourism activities, land use changes around the wetland, and the occurrence of eutrophication phenomena have brought this valuable ecosystem to the brink of destruction. The Anzali wetland complex is located near the city of Bandar Anzali in Guilan province in northern Iran, along the southern coast of the Caspian Sea. The construction and development of the expressway network has far-reaching significance for the economic growth of Guizhou Province. In this paper, ArcGIS was used to calculate the nodal accessibility, daily accessibility and regional average accessibility of the expressway network in Guizhou Province, and the evolution of the spatial pattern of accessibility under the influence of expressways in Guizhou Province from 2012 to 2019 was analyzed through three different dimensions of accessibility indicators. The results show that with the continuous construction of expressways, the accessibilit

Abstract:
The Heartland Inventory and Monitoring Network has monitored vegetation at Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve for more than 20 years. Monitoring assists the preserve in managing the nearly 10,000-acre (4,047 ha) site by providing status and trends of vegetation and disturbance metrics. The site protects critical remnant tallgrass prairie as well as the ranching legacy of the Flint Hills region. Monitoring was conducted in 30 permanent sites across the western preserve. We assessed current and future climate trends, fire and grazing rates, and vegetation metrics, including ground cover, guild,

Long-term bird banding data were collected from 1996–2019 (except in 2008) to assess the New River riparian zone avian community in one location in New River Gorge National River (NERI). The NERI banding station has banded over 4,500 individuals over 10,700 net hours in the twenty-three years it has been in operation and has captured 80 different species. Total captures, capture rate, and total species have been declining annually over the study period. Species associated with early-successional/shrubland habitat also declined over the study period, which is consistent with regional trends dur

Plant community monitoring at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield (NB) focused on the restored tallgrass prairie community. Six monitoring sites were visited four times and observations of plant species and ground cover were made. In addition to those observations, we included two environmental factors in this report—precipitation and recent fire history—to help understand the vegetation data status and trends. Precipitation data (standardized vegetation index) indicated drought conditions in 2012 and some dry periods in 2016. Although prairies are adapted to drought, we found that species ric

Temperate insectivorous bats value high prey abundance and appropriate vegetative structure when selecting foraging habitats. Forests, particularly in the eastern United States, provide prime foraging habitats for bats but can be heavily impacted by non-native plants, which may alter arthropod diversity and abundance, as well as vegetative structure. To investigate associations between non-native plants and insect abundance, vegetative structure, and consequently bat activity, we performed vegetation surveys, insect trapping, and acoustic monitoring at 23 forested plots in northern New Jersey,

Abstract:
Purpose: Previous research by NatCen identified a potential health-harm paradox for mental wellbeing and gambling, finding that those with poor mental wellbeing or a diagnosed mental health condition were more likely to experience problem gambling despite being less likely to gamble at all. This report aimed to explore this further, testing three specific hypothesis which could account for this association: 1. That people with poorer mental wellbeing who gamble do so more frequently and it is this increased frequency of gambling that drives elevated rates of gambling severity. 2. That people w
