Full textThe linguistic policy is a set of measures taken by a State concerning one or many languages that are spoken in the territory placed under its sovereignty, in order to change the corpus or statute. In general, linguistic policies are based on ideological, cultural, economic and political goals. In fact, languages and power are strongly linked within the structure of the society. In the history, political factors have changed the statute and institutional framework of the society languages. The case of The Republic of Equatorial Guinea from the Spanish colonization to nowadays is particularly relevant. During the spanish colonial period (1858-1968), Spain expanded its language to the detriment of local Bantu and creole languages. The use of spanish was compulsory in administration, justice, schools....(...). The colony became independent in 1968. Spanish was official language of the new State and hispanization went on....(...). From 1979 to present day, the Equato-guinéan State is enforcing a linguistic policy based on cultural, economic and geopolitical goals. The use of Spanish is reinforced, French and Portuguese became official languages. But native languages don't have any public statute....(...)

Full textA modulization of Equatorial Guinea economy before and after its approval to FCFA area proves that a system of floating exchange rates without triangular arbitration is the one which generates the least of disturbances. With regard to the stability generates by perceived disturbances, each one of the three regimes of exchange rates create stability for some partial markets and aggregates and instability for some others. As for conversion exchange rate between Epkwellé and FCFA, it seems to not be an efficient rate to FAMA (1976) ‘s understanding. There is any consistency, in this area, between partly productivity rates and real net wage rates and partly between effective exchange rates and cost indexes. That induces problem of FCFA global effective exchange rate and occult conveyances between members of that area. Apart from inflation, the integration of that country in Franc area seems to not have been a condition of development. At most, CFA Frans helped to come out of non-monetary condition on which it runned into before

Full textThe thesis aims to study the evangelizing action of the catholic missionaries at present equatorial guinea region, between the years 1858 (beginning of the effective spanish colonization) and 1910 (when the author esteems that the missionary model has been definitely consolidated). That's why ail interventions that took place there have been studied, paying especial attention to the jesuit experiences and above all to the claretian ones. It has been tried to systematize them by means of the description of the opposed proceeding models: thus, the claretian model that finally prevailed, would object to the jesuit one as well as to the french spiritains order, but it would find its own roots in the tradition of the christian countries missions carried out in the metropolitan territory and in the complementary tasks of those other institutes. The originality, then, would lie in a gradual building of a new evangelization model in a small place, where the claretians could make use of a surprising freedom of action such as the resources to their own disposal; and in the putting into practice a way of doing that, although it was also opposed to the model supported by the state, it integrated many guinean young people in the colonial productive system based in the cocoa farming. The thesis examines the claretian expansion, parallely started to the berlin conference, the progressive progress of the new model, the boarding schools way of working, the differentiated behaviour in the capital and out of the capital, the problems caused to the native communities and to the state administration, and the resultant ones

The colonization of the Spanish Possessions of the gulf of Guinea involves the linking of heterogeneous civilizations and ethnically and culturally different populations. Also, by promoting the circulation of information and men, it generates a varied literature through which the Spaniards express their view of the Guinean populations and their cultures. Although based on their direct impressions, this view remains strongly influenced by the legacy of centuries of tradition on the inferiority of blacks. There is a survival of the various secular prejudices about Africans. These inevitably condition their perception of Guineans. They also promote the domination of the colonial society over the colonized society which is subject to a threefold tutelage: that of the colonial administration, that of the large monopolistic societies, and that of the Catholic religious missions.

Full textThe present work relates to the general topic of border geography. It exposes the problems of the crossborder region between gabon, cameroon and equatorial guinea confronted with requirements for economic and social development in central africa and the countries involved. It discusses in two main points the nature and the way how a certain kind of economy operates, which evolves outside the administrative divisions but is more or less subject to their constraints. The first point consists of highlighting the fundamentals of this economy. Elements are analysed, ranging from basic data to complmentarities and economical disparities, through resources pertaining to the crossborder region. The second point relates to its dynamics. It takes into account the structures as well as the actors which determine the actual functioning of that economy. The second point further includes crossborder impact on that region. Based on those main points, the analyses reveal that this economy is not "strong" but rather fragile but dependent on the political and economic situations not relating to the border regions but rather to the states concerned. A dual functioning system is exhibited which lacks harmony. As regards to the sociocultural aspect, the whole region benefits from it, whereas in the socio-economic field, non-native and foreign populations are more specially favoured than true natives

Full textThe history of Annobon Island and its population is one of a kind. Discovered at the end of the 15th century, the island was uninhabited. The people sent to Annobon in order to settle there were a few Portuguese and mainly Luso-Africans or Africans who were free, emancipated or enslaved. Other African islands in the Atlantic Ocean with mixed populations have known a similar situation but Annobon Island is the place where Africans were more numerous than anywhere else. Thanks to that distinctive feature, the Annobonese succeedeed to free themselves from the Portuguese authority and from slavery long before the other territories of the Lusitanian Empire. The island was coveted by several Western countries despite the well¬known spirit of rebellion of the Annobonese. At the end of the 18th century, it was officially ceded to Spain in return for American territories. Spaniards discovered a bit late that they had been fooled : indeed, they failed to take possession of the island because its population rejected this new dependence. Until the end of the 19th century, the resistance of the Annobonese population as well as the lack of resources of Spain prevented the Spaniards from organizing the settlement of a religious mission in Annobon. The attachment of the Annobonese to Catholicism allowed Spaniards to start colonizing the population but only after a permanent mission settled in the island. Then, the missionaries discovered an original society with its own religious beliefs, worships, power structures and rules
