Academic literature on the topic 'Guizhou Sheng (China)'

A unique radiolarian fauna recovered from the top part of the Changxingian stage in south Guizhou, Southwest China, includes at least nineteen species one of which is new. The fauna is mainly composed of Permian species extensively distributed all over the world, such as Hegleria mammilla (Sheng and Wang, 1985); Ishigaum trifustis De Wever and Caridroit, 1984; Foremanhelena triangula De Wever and Caridroit, 1984; Triplanospongos dekkaensis (Noble and Renne, 1990); Nazarovella gracilis De Wever and Caridroit, 1984; and Nazarovella inflata Sashida and Tonishi, 1986, among others. Besides these species, a new radiolarian assemblage, represented by Copicyntra ziyunensis new species; Copiellintra fontainei (Sashida, 2000); Klaengspongus spinosus Sashida, 2000; and Paroertlispongus? sp., was discovered in South China. The assemblage only occurs in less than 10 m siliceous rock strata under the Permian-Triassic boundary at south Guizhou, Guangxi, and north Sichuan. Although only a few new species appeared during this period, they are very important for understanding both the radiolarian extinction at the end of the Permian and the relation between the Paleozoic and Mesozoic Radiolaria.

Y. Cai & H. Hua comment: Zhuravlev, Gámez Vintaned & Ivantsov (2009) reported the problematic Ediacaran fossil Gaojiashania annulucosta in Siberia and they considered that this is the first find of Gaojiashania outside China, since Gaojiashania had previously only been reported from the Gaojiashan Member of the middle Dengying Formation in the Ningqiang area, southern Shaanxi Province, South China. However, we believe that the so-called Siberian Gaojiashania was mis-identified, and what was described as Gaojiashania annulucosta by Zhuravlev, Gámez Vintaned & Ivantsov (2009) is more appropriately ascribed to Shaanxilithes ningqiangensis, another problematic Ediacaran fossil that has also been known from the Gaojiashan Member in Shaanxi Province of South China (Chen, Chen & Lao, 1975; Xing et al. 1984), as well as the stratigraphically equivalent Taozichong Formation in Guizhou Province (Hua, Chen & Zhang, 2004) and the Jiucheng Member (Dengying Formation) in Yunnan Province of South China (Zhu & Zhang, 2005), the Zhoujieshan Formation in Qinghai Province (Shen et al. 2007), and the Zhengmuguan Formation in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of North China (Shen et al. 2007).

The genus Quasipaa (Family Dicroglossidae) is currently composed of 11 species distributed in China and Southeast Asia: Quasipaa acanthophora (Dubois & Ohler 2009), Q. boulengeri (Günther 1889), Q. courtoisi (Angel 1922), Q. delacouri (Angel 1928), Q. exilispinosa (Liu & Hu, 1975), Q. fasciculispina (Inger 1970), Q. jiulongensis (Huang & Liu, 1985), Q. shini (Ahl 1930), Q. spinosa (David 1875), Q. verrucospinosa (Bourret 1937), Q. yei (Chen, Qu & Jiang 2002) (Frost 2016). These species are morphologically similar, and their taxonomy is subject to controversy (Che et al. 2009). Analyses of nuclear and mitochondrial genes suggest the genus likely encompass additional cryptic species (Ye et al. 2013). Bioacoustics has contributed to studies on the taxonomy of the genus (Ye et al. 2013; Shen et al. 2015), however, to date, only the advertisement calls of Q. spinosa are known (Yu & Zheng 2009; Chen et al. 2012; Shen et al. 2015). Here, we describe the advertisement calls of Q. shini, which inhabits streams in the southern part of central China(Guizhou, Hunan, Guangxi and Jiangxi) and is characterized by the presence of keratinized skin spines on the lateral surfaces of the body.

AbstractTiny, pelagic arthropods from the Anisian Luoping Biota exposed in two quarries near Luoping, Yunnan Province, China, represent the numerically most abundant organisms in the assemblage. They form the basis for definition of two, and possibly three, species referred to the order Lophogastrida, family Eucopiidae.Yunnanocopia grandisnew genus new species andY.longicaudan. gen. new species represent the oldest occurrence of mysidaceans in the fossil record. Their anatomy allies them with the Ladinian speciesSchimperella acanthocercusTaylor, Schram, and Shen, 2001, from Guizhou Province, China, which previously was thought to be the oldest lophogastrid, and with extant species of Eucopiidae. Their appearance in the Anisian represents one additional element of the early faunal radiation within the Luoping Biota following the end-Permian extinction event. Presence of well-preserved oostegites, along with other morphological features, documents a conservative bauplan expressed in Eucopiidae.

Le Guizhou, situé dans le sud-ouest de la République Populaire de Chine (RPC), est une province reculée, difficile d’accès, avec une topographie accidentée aux sommets variant entre 1000 et 1500 mètres d’altitude. Dans le but d’uniformiser la modernisation du pays et de pallier à l’écart grandissant de développement économique entre les régions côtières et les régions intérieures, le gouvernement chinois y encourage de plus en plus le développement du tourisme. Zhaoxing, un village de la nationalité minoritaire Dong du sud-est de la province, est devenu, dans les dix dernières années un site incontournable du tourisme dit ‘ethnique’; une forme de tourisme dont l’attrait principal est la culture traditionnelle des communautés minoritaires. Les habitants de Zhaoxing vivent de plus en plus une modernisation dictée par l’industrie touristique face à laquelle ils ont très peu de pouvoir. Néanmoins, ils sont loin d’être des victimes passives du développement; une étude locale approfondie laisse entrevoir une variété de formes d’indigénisation de la modernité en fonction des différentes formes de stratégies de subsistance des villageois. Les réponses locales comprennent de la résistance (ouverte ou subtile), de l’accommodement et de la coopération. Ainsi, la situation des villageois de Zhaoxing révèle certaines des dynamiques impliquées dans le changement social que la modernité, via le développement du tourisme, amène dans les régions rurales, reculées et ethniques de la RPC. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) announced in mid-1999 the campaign to “Open Up the West” (xibu da kaifa) with the goals of reducing socio-economic disparities, encouraging economic growth, and ensuring social and political stability in the non-Han areas. For the village of Zhaoxing, located in the remote province of Guizhou and inhabited by the Dong minority nationality, the Chinese state ideal of modernization has been channelled in large part through the development of ethnic tourism. As a result, what an authentic Dong village should look like as well as the outward expressions of being Dong are increasingly fixed by delocalized agents of change driven by tourism profits. Far from being passive, villagers of Zhaoxing constantly negotiate to maintain or improve their livelihoods on their own terms. They selectively resist and indigenize elements of modernity according to the opportunities and constraints stemming from their unique and troubled place within the Chinese Nation. Based on extensive fieldwork in the village of Zhaoxing this thesis presents a diversity of local responses that vary according to local livelihood strategies. It demonstrates the local ingenuity of Zhaoxing villagers in negotiating and asserting their own modern subjectivity. Al laox, is a kind of polyphonic folk song which are sung and widely practiced by parts of Dong people in southern China. As an indispensable component of the non-literary peasant society of Dong ethnic culture, Al laox music tradition has been systematically passed down, with full participation and ritualized performance in Dong people's daily life.
As a case study of "local music tradition", this research will contribute to further research topics, such as the common characteristic of Dong traditional music, sociological meaning of polyphonic folk song and contemporary transformation of traditional music etc.
This dissertation aims to investigate the interaction between "Al laox music tradition and community identity of Dong People". Based on extensive fieldwork and textual analysis, this thesis discusses, on one hand, how Dong people construct their identity with Al laox music tradition, on the other hand, it examines what exactly the Al laox music tradition is and what it means to native people. Thus, this bidirectional concerns not only respond to the general ethnomusicological issue of "how culture shapes music", but also gives an interpretation of "how music function culture".
This dissertation has two methodological concerns: (1) a micro-ethnographical study of village social structure in relation to the Al laox music tradition, and (2) a survey of Al laox as a ritualized communal singing ritual. The former focuses on a typical Dong community as a locus to examine the operation of Gaolao music tradition, whereas the latter illustrates how Dong people construct distinct stratified identities through singing especially in three coorelative rituals. Specifically, this research takes Xiao Huang village in Congjiang county, Guizhou province and the relavant villages around as object and structures around three significant ritualized singing pattern, gabx gongx, xeegnl doul and weex yeek.
