Gulu Town (Gulu) served as a site of refuge for many during northern Uganda’s armed conflict that spanned from 1986 to 2006. To combat these trends, the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment (FAE) at Gulu University adopted a development approach emphasizing community transformation. The FAE conceptualizes community transformation as the building of Gulu community members’ capacity to transition from a subsistence agrarian lifestyle to one more economically sustainable. Several Universities in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) rarely have a clearly defined strategy for transforming communities. This is partly because some are still built on colonial models, which place a strong focus on theory, rote learning, and memorisation, where learners duplicate the content during examinations with little or no impact on the community. As a result, the surrounding communities continue to grapple with high levels of poverty, illiteracy, poor housing, disease, and poor-quality health and hygiene. Abstract:
The Arabian Gulf represents a significant water body and strategic pathway, which has pronounced regional and international benefits. This research investigated the evolution of the Arabian Gulf geosyncline. Furthermore, it explored the formation, geologic and tectonic settings of Halul and Al-Alyia offshore Islands, as examples of two different evolution models, within the emergence framework. The Arabian Gulf geosyncline has been emerged during the Cenozoic Era (Late Miocene-Pliocene Epoch), situated in the northeastern collisional marginal part of the Arabian Plate, as a foredeep geosynclin

Salinity is an abiotic influencer to the growth and the efficiency of the algal Symbiodinium that coexists in symbiosis with corals. In light of the high salinity conditions that prevail in the Arabian Gulf including the waters of Qatar, we observed the effect of salinity above local-ambient levels on Symbiodinium’s growth rate, biomass and its photosynthetic efficiency. Symbiodinium sp. extracted from Platygyra daedalea was launched in f/2 media in controlled incubator conditions at salinities of 30, 40 (control), 45, 50, 60 and 70 psu for 11 days. Tarmat/Oil residue (hereafter ‘TM’) is one of the serious threats to the marine ecosystem due to their toxicity, persistence and bioaccumulation problems. To assess the level of TM contamination and to determine the primary differences in the chemical composition, a sampling campaign was conducted in 12 beaches along the west coast of Qatar. TM contamination ranged from 0 to 104 gm-1 with an average value of 9.25 gm-1. Moreover, all the TM samples were found to be highly weathered, blackish and asphalt-like material. Though the current TM pollution level is thirty-fold lesser than those found

From 1988 through 1995, geoscientists from the Department of Geology (now the School of Earth and Climate Sciences) of the University of Maine, and their scientific partners, undertook geoscientific studies in the Gulf of Maine in territorial waters of the United States of America and Canada. Within this eight-year period, the 1990 expedition onboard the RV Cape Hatteras was originally identified by the University of Maine as CH-10-90. This expedition was renamed by the Geological Survey of Canada Atlantic (GSCA) as 90CAPE HATTERAS to conform to that latter organization's naming standards. Dur

Abstract:
In 2012, Katmai National Park & Preserve joined the stranded seabird survey efforts spearheaded by the University of Washington?s Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST). COASST is a citizen science network started in 1999 with the goal of establishing a baseline dataset of seabird mortality to identify unusual die-offs. During the winter of 2015 and spring of 2016, the Gulf of Alaska experienced a large die-off of common murres (Uria aalge; COMU) due to a severe marine heatwave in the North Pacific. Abstract:
The Tripletail, Lobotes surinamensis, is a pelagic fish found in tropical and sub-tropical waters of all oceans. Tripletails are often associated with floating debris and make frequent incursions in bays and estuaries where they are targeted by recreational fishermen. In Mississippi waters the species is typically present during the late spring and summer season that also correspond to the period of sexual maturation and spawning (Brown-Peterson and Franks 2001). Tripletail is appreciated as a gamefish but is also prized for its flesh of superior quality. The fast growth rate of juveniles in c
