Abstract:
In Shuilin Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan a group of older people have a small, well-established, active musical club called ‘Can’t Read the Words’ where they learn and play the ukulele together. This research explored the impact of their ukulele playing experiences and paid special attention to song preferences (songs they have chosen to play or sing). Data collection involved 11 semi-structured, in-depth interviews with individual healthy adults. All participants drew from their experiences in regional community music organizations to explore how music effects their daily lives. Thematic analysis of the data unveiled valuable insights. The study concluded that participants believed that their musical club provided opportunities for individuals to practice and perform before audiences, resulting in a sense of achievement and satisfaction. The aged community should view the ‘Can’t Read the Words’ musical club as an example of the positive effects playing the ukulele can have on their lives.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: The Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club is a world-renowned group of Cuban musicians accomplished in a variety of musical styles. The musicians of the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club and supporting musicians of their orchestras represent a cohort of musicians throughout Cuba who continue to play traditional genres and perform into their older ages. PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to (1) identify musculoskeletal conditions that occurred over the previous 12 months among the members of the Orquesta and supporting musicians and (2) to discover if these conditions, in part, were caused by or in some way affected musical performance. METHODS: The study was a convenience sample of musicians within the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club and supporting musical groups. Thirty-six musicians completed a self-administered survey. RESULTS: Sixty-seven percent (24/36) of the total sample of musicians and 89% (16/18) of those over age 60 years had at least one musculoskeletal condition over the previous 12 months. Forty-four percent (16/36) of the total sample of musicians and 61% (11/18) of those older than 60 years of age reported that a musculoskeletal complaint was either, in part, caused by or affected their performance. CONCLUSION: Musculoskeletal conditions were prevalent among the Cuban musicians, especially in those over 60 years of age. Collaboration of medical professionals, managers, and musicians may help to generate ideas on how to prevent injuries as well as to evaluate what treatments for playing-related conditions, including both conventional and complementary and alternative therapies, are most effective.

Abstract:
This article addresses the construction of a singing culture at New York City Football Club (NYCFC) over the course of its inaugural season in Major League Soccer (MLS). Although being a supporter can provide many of the feelings associated with the term “community,” in order to capture the fluid reality of twenty-first-century group formation, this article rejects that label, preferring to understand NYCFC fandom as an emerging “social identity.” Such an approach enables us to recognize the many layers of identification that form people’s self-concepts. I argue that NYCFC fandom, and perhaps social identities more broadly, are realized through ritual interaction in the form of normative group behavior. In this case, song is the meeting point of the converging worlds of soccer fandom and New York City, negotiating a shared musical culture that gives meaning to a new social identity.

Abstract:
In the modern world, cultural and leisure activities are more developed than ever. One of the sides of its manifestation is the growing popularity of concerts of various musical groups. The article sets and solves the problem of mathematical modeling of the relationship between the management of a music group and the management of a club that provides a rental venue for performances. We use a static two-level hierarchically organized model that describes the interaction of managers of a music club (supervisor) and a music group (agent). The top – level subject is the supervisor, and the bottom-level subject is the agent. The agent generates their winnings by changing the cost of concert tickets in response to the supervisor’s announced strategy. The supervisor’s winnings vary depending on the price they set for renting the venue for the group’s performance. Target functions of both participants are constructed. The incentive method is used as a method of hierarchical management. The algorithm for constructing the Stackelberg equilibrium for a two-level hierarchical game is specified. An analytical study was conducted for a particular type of input functions. Examples of analytical finding of equilibrium are given. An analysis of the results obtained is given, on the basis of which conclusions are made about the type of optimal management of the supervisor and agent.

Abstract:
Patricio Manns (b. 1937) is a Chilean singer, songwriter, writer, poet, novelist and journalist. He was one of the group of singers who came together in the Peña de los Parra, the club founded by Angel and Isabel Parra in Santiago in 1965 which became the crucible where neo-folklore metamorphised into nueva cancíon (‘New Song’). Manns' relationship with nueva cancíon has been a fundamental, although at times an ambivalent one. Unlike many of the other musicians he has constantly involved himself in non-musical and political activity. Recently he has been the European spokesperson for the Chilean resistance movement, the Manuel Rodriguez Patriotic Front, which claimed responsibility for the assassination attempt in October 1986 on President Pinochet.

Abstract:
Competitive composition in rhythmic gymnastics is a small performance that has its own plot. However, the modern system of training in rhythmic gymnastics involves the implementation of a large amount of complex and super-complex elements, which must be mastered by very young athletes, and almost no methods of forming artistry, expressiveness, musicality. Problems related to the study of sports aesthetics are the subject of research by scientists: Viner-Usmanova I.O., M.E. Plekhanova, L.P. Morozova, V.V. Sydorova, L.A. Karpenko, Kabaieva A.M., Biletska I.H. etc.. Aim: to scientifically substantiate and develop a program of musical and rhythmic training for 6-7 years old gymnasts. Research methods: analysis and generalization of literature sources; pedagogical observation and experiment; testing; expert evaluation of performances of 6-7 years old gymnasts; methods of mathematical statistics. Organization of the research. The research was conducted on the basis of the sports club "Rhythmics Star" in Dnipro within the period from October, 2018 till December, 2019. The study involved two groups of 6-7 years old gymnasts: control and experimental ones of 15 girls in each. Classes in groups were held 5 times a week for 90 minutes. Research results. After conducting the study of the initial level of musical-rhythmic training of gymnasts 6-7 years old, it was determined that the majority (70.6%) of the athletes have an average level of musical-rhythmic training. The largest difference in the results was observed in the test for coordination of movements with the meter, and the smallest one in improvisation to music. As a result of the study, the program of musical and rhythmic training for gymnasts aged 6-7 was developed and experimentally tested. Conclusions. Comparison of indicators of musical-rhythmic preparedness of the studied control and experimental groups at the beginning and end of the pedagogical experiment showed that in the control group the indicators have not changed. Whereas in the experimental group there was a significant statistical increase in the main indicators of musical and motor preparedness. Prospects for further research: development of the program for different age groups using other methods and means of musical-rhythmic training.

Abstract:
The present study investigates how people move and relate to each other – and to the dance music – in a club-like setting created within a motion capture laboratory. Three groups of participants (29 in total) each danced to a 10-minute-long DJ mix consisting of four tracks of electronic dance music (EDM). Two of the EDM tracks had little structural development, while the two others included a typical “break routine” in the middle of the track, consisting of three distinct passages: (a) “breakdown”, (b) “build-up” and (c) “drop”. The motion capture data show similar bodily responses for all three groups in the break routines: a sudden decrease and increase in the general quantity of motion. More specifically, the participants demonstrated an improved level of interpersonal synchronization after the drop, particularly in their vertical movements. Furthermore, the participants’ activity increased and became more pronounced after the drop. This may suggest that the temporal removal and reintroduction of a clear rhythmic framework, as well as the use of intensifying sound features, have a profound effect on a group’s beat synchronization. Our results further suggest that the musical passages of EDM efficiently lead to the entrainment of a whole group, and that a break routine effectively “re-energizes” the dancing.
