In order to develop a sustainable, safe, and dynamic transportation system, proper attention must be paid to the safety of pedestrians. The purpose of this study is to analyze the surrogate measures related to pedestrian crash exposure in urban roads, including the use of sociodemographic characteristics, land use, and geometric characteristics of the network. Abstract:
L-lactic acid (L-LA), a key monomer in biodegradable plastics, is a sustainable alternative that can be derived from LCB. The L-LA production process typically involves various technologies such as fermentation, filtration, and distillation. In the L-LA production process, large amounts of buffers are used to maintain proper pH during fermentation, so conventional buffers (e.g., CaCO3) are often selected because of their low cost. However, these buffers cannot be recycled efficiently, and the potential for alternative buffers remains uncertain. In this work, we aim to develop and evaluate nove

Abstract:
Recent gage restraint measurement system (GRMS) developments include the redesign of GRMS vehicles using a deployable split-axle instead of a freight truck mounted split-axle. This new test configuration results in boundary condition changes in the applied loads and split axle location, which influence test results. To ensure the equivalence of test results from these two systems, a comprehensive evaluation of the mechanistic basis for previous GRMS rulemaking was conducted and coupled with a fundamental investigation of factors influencing GRMS performance and inspection accuracy followed by

Abstract:
This report presents local convective boiling heat transfer and Fanning friction factor measurements in a micro-fin tube for R134a and two possible low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant replacements for R134a: R1234yf and R450A. Test section heating was achieved with water in either counterflow or in parallel flow with the test refrigerant to provide for a range of heat fluxes for each thermodynamic quality. An existing correlation from the literature for single and multi-component mixtures was shown to not satisfactorily predict the convective boiling measurements for flow qualities
