The health and socio-economic burdens of the current diabesity epidemic present significant challenges worldwide. This thesis evaluates the therapeutic potential of two approaches to diabesity therapy namely; sustained GIP receptor antagonism and prolonged CCK receptor activation. Active immunisation against (Pro3)GIP in high-fat mice resulted in the generation of GIP specific neutralising antibodies, resulting in decreased circulating blood glucose, plasma insulin, LDL-cholesterol, tissue triglyceride content and improved glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity. Abstract:
Understanding how the brain controls appetite offers promising inroads towards developing new therapies for obesity. Peptide YY (PYY) and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) are anorectic hormones that are co-released post-prandially by the gut. Both have been shown to physiologically inhibit appetite and food intake when administered to humans. However, the mechanisms by which they regulate appetite through the central nervous system (CNS) remain poorly understood. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a tool that has recently been used to determine the CNS pathways that mediate the act

The second chapter first motivates a broadly Kantian account of autonomous action, and then gives reasons to think that Kant's own development of this theory runs int

Abstract:
Yes
Physically active lessons present a key paradigm shift in educational practice. However, little is known about the barriers to implementing physically active lessons. To address this, 31 practising primary teachers (23 = female) from 9 primary schools across West Yorkshire, England, were engaged in focus group interviews. Drawing on the socio-ecological model, findings revealed that barriers influencing the implementation of physically active lessons are multifaceted. Abstract:
Formins are proteins facilitating formation of actin filaments. They affect structure of cytoskeleton and participate in cytokinesis and tip growth. There are 2 classes of formins in Arabidopsis thaliana, which include FH1 and FH2 (Formin Homology 1 and 2) domain. Formins of the class I have usually a transmembrane domain on N-terminus. Due to this fact they can interact with membranes. Some formins from the class II include PTEN domain (Phosphatase and Tensin Homolog) derived from sequences of PTEN proteins which has lost the function of phosphatase. It is assumed this domain can bind on a me

No
Inflammatory bowel diseases are associated with increased risk of developing colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CAC). Epidemiological data show that the consumption of ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 PUFAs) decreases the risk of sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC). Importantly, recent data have shown that eicosapentaenoic acid-free fatty acid (EPA-FFA) reduces polyp formation and growth in models of familial adenomatous polyposis. However, the effects of dietary EPA-FFA are unknown in CAC. We tested the effectiveness of substituting EPA-FFA, for other dietary fats, in preventing inf

In this case, I attempt to apply various kinds of acting theories and skills in order to create a standard operating procedure (SOP) of my own. I can make good use of this self-created procedure in my future acting, maintaining the quality of my performance while, at the same time, exploring more possibilities based on my own SOP.
