Abstract:
Abstract This article describes the social organization of the ‘Tranvieri’ boxing gym in Bolognina, a working class Bologna neighbourhood that has seen rapid change over the last 20 years due to the closure of factories and arrival of immigrants, especially from the Maghreb. The population of the gym has changed accordingly: currently, about two-thirds of those attending the gym as a leisure centre are children of immigrants. I have studied the practices of everyday life, the ‘techniques of the body’ of these young boxers born in Italy but without citizenship, who frequent the gym daily after vocational school or work and attending to family responsibilities. For these young men, boxing is not a solution to the frustrations inflicted by a social world they perceive as indifferent, if not hostile, towards them; rather, it offers them a chance to be represented within that world as something other than merely excluded. As scholars have shown, boxing is a male world: women are perceived as extraneous to the gym and, although two or three women practise boxing at Tranvieri, female boxing is generally met with disapproval. The tension between the boxing world and the world of women is also exhibited in the conflict between trainers, who wish to strictly control the athletes in terms of diet, schedules and sexual practices, and the boxers’ mothers, wives and girlfriends.

Abstract:
This paper aims to infer the importance of gyms and health clubs in the fight against non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) and the fight against obesity and physical inactivity amid a global pandemic. Neither scholars nor health associations present a clear indicator of devices dealing with physical inactivity, unlike what was done with hospital beds. In this gap lies this article’s purpose: in light of upstream social marketing, to propose that the number of gyms per 100,000 inhabitants, with the physical activity penetration rate, combined in a synthetic variable is an indicator in the fight against physical inactivity and obesity. We strive to offer a synthetic variable, namely Gym Access. We proposed a Gym Access ranking amongst the 61 countries utilizing the new variable. We analyzed secondary data from 61 countries using Confirmatory and Exploratory Factorial Analyses, Linear and Multiple Regression, Process Mediation Analysis, and One-way ANOVA. The latent variable positively impacts the country’s life expectancy, and NCDs absolute risk rate mediates the impact of Gym Access on the country’s life expectancy. Finland ranks first in the Gym Access ranking, and Indonesia ranks last. There is a significant statistical difference between OECD countries compared to other countries.

Abstract:
This is the first study to measure the ‘sense of community’ reportedly offered by the CrossFit gym model. A cross-sectional study adapted Social Capital and General Belongingness scales to compare perceptions of a CrossFit gym and a traditional gym. CrossFit gym members reported significantly higher levels of social capital (both bridging and bonding) and community belongingness compared with traditional gym members. However, regression analysis showed neither social capital, community belongingness, nor gym type was an independent predictor of gym attendance. Exercise and health professionals may benefit from evaluating further the ‘sense of community’ offered by gym-based exercise programmes.

Abstract:
The present project consists of the implementation of the project on the rental of gym equipment in good condition through a web platform. Due to the current situation, several companies dedicated to providing the gym service through their premises had to close by order of the Peruvian government to mitigate the risk of contagion by COVID-19 and later only opening was allowed with the capacity of only 30 % which generated significant economic losses. Likewise, the people who attended these places stopped doing so for fear of contagion or because they could not attend because there were no hours available, and they were forced to do physical activity at home in a rustic way or by buying gym equipment so as not to lose the routine. For this reason, this project was proposed to solve this problem, which consists of offering a web platform so that people who have gym machines can register on the web platform where the status of their gym machines will be evaluated, and they can rent their equipment to people who require specific gym equipment that allows them to perform physical activity at home.

Abstract:
This final thesis is written by Jelena Todorovic, studying Product Design at Malmö Högskola. The purpose with this project was to develop a sport bag for people living nearby a gym and who showers at home instead of the gym after training. The main focus of the project is User Centered Design, which means that the product development of the concept is based on the end users, or the customer’s preferences, needs and wishes. The user is included in every step of the project development, such as commenting and criticizing sketches and concepts, being interviewed and observed, and evaluating the different stages of the concept and product. The student saw a need of a different bag than the traditional sport bag. The pilot study resulted in a list of requirements based on the target group and their needs and preferences. A gym bag with focus on the functionality became the project. The student wanted the project and the final concept to be environmentally friendly, why a research in that field was necessary. We need to think about our planet, and for a Designer, it is a challenge to develop a product which is environmentally friendly and sustainable. It is also desirable for a product to fill its function and last for a long time. Finally, the project resulted in a functionality model of the new gym bag.

Abstract:

Syfte och frågeställning

Studiens syfte:

Muscle Dysmorphia (M.D.)

Purpose and question

The purpose of this essay:

Muscle Dysmorphia (M.D.) is a syndrome with an incorrect body-opinion and low self-esteem.

The purpose of this essay is to study the prevalence of Muscle Dysmorphia among male weightlifters in two different sized cities.

The question of the essay is:

Are there any difference in occurrence of M.D. amongst men at the age 16–50 who workout in gyms in a big city (Stockholm) versus a medium sized town (Lidköping)?

Method

The purpose of our previous b-essay was to seek definition and criteria for the M.D. syndrome, and we used the Pubmed database as a source for our findings. These findings also act as a base for creating the questioner we used in our survey research in this study. The survey research was personally done by the authors on 240 men and took place at SATS Odenplan in Stockholm and at Lidköping’s three gyms. After data collection was completed, it was analyzed in Excel and a Chi2-test was done.

In order to create a high internal validity in our research, literature related to the subject and other similar research projects have become a foundation for planning of this essay.

Results/Discussion

The research shows that the prevalence of M.D. among weightlifting men between the ages of 16-50 years are more than four times likely in a medium sized city than in a big one. Lidköping have a prevalence of 6.36 % whereas Stockholm’s figure was much lower at 1,53 %. The result of this study is narrowed because the criteria of the Chi2-test were not completely fulfilled.

The reason for these results can depend on several different things, one might be the time aspect. In a smaller city more time is devoted to work out in gyms, witch can involve the persons to a special lifestyle and direction of work out. Individuals with the same interests for work out are gathering and pushing each other forward.

Abstract:
Recommender systems provide new opportunities for retrieving personalized information on the Internet. Due to the availability of big data, the fitness industries are now focusing on building an efficient recommender system for their end-users. This thesis investigates the possibilities of building an efficient recommender system for gym users. BRP Systems AB has provided the gym data for evaluation and it consists of approximately 896,000 customer interactions with 8 features. Four different matrix factorization methods, Latent semantic analysis using Singular value decomposition, Alternating least square, Bayesian personalized ranking, and Logistic matrix factorization that are based on implicit feedback are applied for the given data. These methods decompose the implicit data matrix of user-gym group activity interactions into the product of two lower-dimensional matrices. They are used to calculate the similarities between the user and activity interactions and based on the score, the top-k recommendations are provided. These methods are evaluated by the ranking metrics such as Precision@k, Mean average precision (MAP) @k, Area under the curve (AUC) score, and Normalized discounted cumulative gain (NDCG) @k. The qualitative analysis is also performed to evaluate the results of the recommendations. For this specific dataset, it is found that the optimal method is the Alternating least square method which achieved around 90\% AUC for the overall system and managed to give personalized recommendations to the users.

Abstract:
Abstract. Q-Learning is an off-policy algorithm for reinforcement learning, that can be used to find optimal policies in Markovian domains. This thesis is about how Q-Learning can be applied to a test environment in the OpenAI Gym toolkit. The utility of testing the algorithm on a problem case is to find out how well it performs as well proving the practical utility of the algorithm. This thesis starts off with a general overview of reinforcement learning as well as the Markov decision process, both of which are crucial in understanding the theoretical groundwork that Q-Learning is based on. After that we move on to discussing the Q-Learning technique itself and dissect the algorithm in detail. We also go over OpenAI Gym toolkit and how it can be used to test the algorithm’s functionality. Finally, we introduce the problem case and apply the algorithm to solve it and analyse the results. The reasoning for this thesis is the rise of reinforcement learning and its increasing relevance in the future as technological progress allows for more and more complex and sophisticated applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background: Elderly interpreted as a period of decline in physical and psychological functioning. This will have a negative effect on stressful situation and result in depression. This depressive state has an impact on the implementation of daily activities. One cognitive therapy method that can be applied to treat depressive disorders is to do a brain gym. Brain gym strives to activate the left and right brain optimally with simple movements and accompanied by music. This study aimed to determine the effect of the brain gym on depression levels in the elderly. Subjects and Method: This was an experimental one group pre-test and post-test design conducted at Tegalgiri Village, Nogosari, Boyolali, Central Java, from October to November, 2017. A total sample of 27 elderlies was selected by quota sampling. The dependent variable was depression. The independent variables (intervention) were brain gym with eight times and each session lasting 10-15 minutes. The data were collected by Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) version 15. The depression score uses a numerical scale. The data were analyzed by pairwise comparison test. Result: Depression before intervention (Mean= 7.96) after the intervention (Mean= 6.45). The results of the comparison test obtained (r= 0.89; 95% CI= 1.23 to 1.74; t= 11,98, p< 0.001, df= 26). Conclusion: There are different levels of depression before and after the intervention. Brain gym has an influence on the level of depression in the elderly in Tegalgiri Village, Nogosari Boyolali. Encourage local health cadres to further activate integrated healthcare center for the elderly, one of the activities is gymnastics, including a brain gym. Zhao, Binghao, Yu Wang, and Wenbin Ma. Comparative Efficacy and Safety of Therapeutics for Elderly Glioblastoma: a Bayesian Network Analysis. INPLASY - International Platform of Registered Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols, March 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.37766/inplasy2022.3.0094.

Abstract:
Review question / Objective: At this time, a comprehensive systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) was conducted to: (1) fill the research gap by giving rankings on treatment efficacy; (2) provide statistical evidence of not head-to-head comparisons; (3) seek out the best and up-to-date therapeutic strategy reported in latest RCTs; (4) address potential adverse events (AEs) of available treatments. Condition being studied: The incidence of glioblastoma (GBM) increases with age, until now, there has been less evidence on the optimal treatments for elderly GBM since only general GBM populations were included in clinical trials. Given the poor survival of elderly GBM, we collected randomized controlled trials about newly diagnosed GBM (ndGBM) and recurrent GBM, and conducted a Bayesian network meta-analysis on ndGBM regarding overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). We revealed TTF + TMZ and TMZ + HFRT were likely to be best treatments for OS; BEV + HFRT and TMZ + HFRT were likely to be best options for PFS. Current study is the most comprehensive and powered network analysis on elderly GBM until now, it also provides more insights for elderly GBM management.
