Arévalo, Macedo Andrea Camilla, Vilca Anggelo Stanko Miklavec, Salcedo Miguel Jhonatan Pizan, Peralta Enrique Gustavo Sánchez, and Ibañez Franccesca Katiuska Valles. "SHARED GYM." Bachelor's thesis, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10757/656897.
Full textThe present project consists of the implementation of the project on the rental of gym equipment in good condition through a web platform. Due to the current situation, several companies dedicated to providing the gym service through their premises had to close by order of the Peruvian government to mitigate the risk of contagion by COVID-19 and later only opening was allowed with the capacity of only 30 % which generated significant economic losses. Likewise, the people who attended these places stopped doing so for fear of contagion or because they could not attend because there were no hours available, and they were forced to do physical activity at home in a rustic way or by buying gym equipment so as not to lose the routine. For this reason, this project was proposed to solve this problem, which consists of offering a web platform so that people who have gym machines can register on the web platform where the status of their gym machines will be evaluated, and they can rent their equipment to people who require specific gym equipment that allows them to perform physical activity at home.

Todorovic, Jelena. "The New Gym Bag." Thesis, Malmö högskola, Fakulteten för teknik och samhälle (TS), 2015. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:mau:diva-20045.
Full textThis final thesis is written by Jelena Todorovic, studying Product Design at Malmö Högskola. The purpose with this project was to develop a sport bag for people living nearby a gym and who showers at home instead of the gym after training. The main focus of the project is User Centered Design, which means that the product development of the concept is based on the end users, or the customer’s preferences, needs and wishes. The user is included in every step of the project development, such as commenting and criticizing sketches and concepts, being interviewed and observed, and evaluating the different stages of the concept and product. The student saw a need of a different bag than the traditional sport bag. The pilot study resulted in a list of requirements based on the target group and their needs and preferences. A gym bag with focus on the functionality became the project. The student wanted the project and the final concept to be environmentally friendly, why a research in that field was necessary. We need to think about our planet, and for a Designer, it is a challenge to develop a product which is environmentally friendly and sustainable. It is also desirable for a product to fill its function and last for a long time. Finally, the project resulted in a functionality model of the new gym bag.

Full textSyfte och frågeställning
Studiens syfte:
Muscle Dysmorphia (M.D.)
Purpose and question
The purpose of this essay:
Muscle Dysmorphia (M.D.) is a syndrome with an incorrect body-opinion and low self-esteem.
The purpose of this essay is to study the prevalence of Muscle Dysmorphia among male weightlifters in two different sized cities.
The question of the essay is:
Are there any difference in occurrence of M.D. amongst men at the age 16–50 who workout in gyms in a big city (Stockholm) versus a medium sized town (Lidköping)?
Method
The purpose of our previous b-essay was to seek definition and criteria for the M.D. syndrome, and we used the Pubmed database as a source for our findings. These findings also act as a base for creating the questioner we used in our survey research in this study. The survey research was personally done by the authors on 240 men and took place at SATS Odenplan in Stockholm and at Lidköping’s three gyms. After data collection was completed, it was analyzed in Excel and a Chi2-test was done.
In order to create a high internal validity in our research, literature related to the subject and other similar research projects have become a foundation for planning of this essay.
Results/Discussion
The research shows that the prevalence of M.D. among weightlifting men between the ages of 16-50 years are more than four times likely in a medium sized city than in a big one. Lidköping have a prevalence of 6.36 % whereas Stockholm’s figure was much lower at 1,53 %. The result of this study is narrowed because the criteria of the Chi2-test were not completely fulfilled.
The reason for these results can depend on several different things, one might be the time aspect. In a smaller city more time is devoted to work out in gyms, witch can involve the persons to a special lifestyle and direction of work out. Individuals with the same interests for work out are gathering and pushing each other forward.

An increase in physical activity is recommended to decrease the risk of obesity associated diseases and premature death. To combat these risks, workplace wellness programs are increasingly being used to increase the physical activity levels of employees. HealthyLife Gym, LLC is a workplace wellness program that collaborates with local small businesses in Inglewood, CA to provide their employees with discounted gym memberships. This women-only gym strives to increase the physical activity levels of African American obese employees between the ages of 35–64. Religion plays an important part in the lives of African American women so the unique collaboration between the gym and faith-based organizations provides an additional source of social support and motivation for the women to sustain increased levels of physical activity.

Full textPurpose The purpose of this assignment was to examine what meaning the body’s shape and form has on an active person who works out in gym. Method We have used a survey as our method in this assignment to get the results. The people that we have asked to answer the survey are 51 individuals, between 18- 65 years old that lives in a medium-sized Swedish town. All of these women and men are regularly working out at a gym. Result The results of this survey have shown that those who has work outed for over two years, feels satisfied with their body shape in a wider perspective then those who have trained less then two years and that age do not play a big part of it. Men are in general more satisfied with their bodies than women are. Men also work out more hours per week then women. The result also shows that older people are more satisfied with their bodies then younger but the younger in a large perspective have become more or less satisfied with their bodies after they started working out. The younger generation put a lot more focus on how other people’s bodies look and how their own shape look. Another result this survey have had were that far from everybody who visited the gym feel at home there, but most of them have become more satisfied with themselves after they have gone to the gym more regularly, especially those who have done it over two years’ time. Conclusion Many but still far from everybody that work out at a gym feels at home there, however many who do work out regularly feel more satisfied with themselves. Age play a small part in it all, older people care far less about their body in comparison with the younger generations. Gender also seems to play a part of the comparison as men feels more satisfied with their bodies than women do. Men tends to have more and longer workout sessions at the gym.

Full textAcessibility is a concept that can be defined in several diferent ways, including a definition that can be linked to the physical environment. The purpose of the essay is to describe how managers in gym in southern Sweden define the word accessibility, describe how professionals in gym in southern Sweden experience their gym accessibility for members with physical disabilities and, what managers in gym in southern Sweden feel that they do to improve accessbility for members with physical disabilities. The study has a qualitative approach where four different managers for four different gyms have been interviewd. To understand the results, the theories of the social model and the crypt theory have been used. The results show that the informants had other associations to the concept avaliability than just connected to the physical enviornment. Furthermore, the results of the interviews show that the managers feel that there are many shortcomings in the gym`s physical environment from an accesibility perspective and that most of the managers work to improve accessibility. The conclusion of te essay highlights that the gym is not an arena that can be said to be accessible to all individuals.

Full textThe purpose of this work is to explore the ideals of body and behavior among adult women of our new Peruvian middle class attending a gym. It suggests that the ideals of bodies developed in this place are in closely related to traditional notions of gender roles of our society. But, at the same time, emphasizes the fact that they, not only try to have a body in accordance to social expectation, but also to interact or make friends, and to experience a variety of emotions in performing aerobic activity itself. Finally, the paper explores the meaning that these women give to their experience at the gym. Not only does this experience get them closer to the ideal body, fixed by the social standards of femininity, but the experience turns into an opportunity to discuss and remake those models of femininity, and assert their own discourses of identity.

Full textThe aim of this study was to examine how women’s exercising is formed in different types of gym settings due to the increasing popularity of women only gyms. The study used symbolic interactionism as theoretic reference since it problematizes the taken for granted, a common view when it comes to gender differences. Participating observation was used to gather data at two unisex gyms and one women only gym. The result showed that women’s exercising was restrained in both settings due to their framing which appeared to reflect social ideals. This was most obvious at the women only gym though it is important to note that this institution seems to represent a counter reaction against the male culture at unisex gyms. The conclusion is that unisex gyms pose obstacles for women’s exercising, however, an alternative that provides gender segregation in this case seems to delimit women’s opportunity to diverge ideals and thus seems to reproduce the problem.

Full textThere are few studies on how organizations do when they set their prices for services, so it is up to date with a study of just that. Meanwhile, there is still a growing interest and increased attention to different and new health trends with different diets and exercises, where more and more choose to become members at different gym facilities. Therefore this paper asks the following questions: What characterizes strategies and pricing processes at the local gyms? Which pricing model applies and how do they contribute to the realization of the strategy and goals? The purpose of this paper is to examine how local gyms go about setting prices, how prices affect the business and how they help to realize their strategies. This, in this paper makes use of semi-structured interviews to examine and compare the two gyms in Visby. A gym with a more classic concept, in this case Gym1, compared with a fitness center, Form Visborg, which has a modern concept that follows the new trends with great variety of training and selection. To answer our questions we used pricing model equalizer, which is a tool to see what in an offer companies charge for. To get an understanding of strategies we used theories Porter and Mintzberg developed, including base strategies; differentiation, cost leadership and focus. To set prices may pricing goals and pricing policies be used while the company's brand and reputation can influence what price the service companies set. The analysis has revealed that there is an opportunity for the two gyms to change their price formula for their season tickets, from taking a fixed rate to a lower fixed fee plus customize fee based on how much the customer training. This is to gyms as an opportunity to attract price-sensitive customers while ensuring certain revenue. The conclusions we have drawn is that the smaller gym have not developed strategies and goals in the same way as the larger gym. We can also see that what’s included in their various pricing models vary. The variation applies between their different training cards of the respective gym but there are also differences between the gyms. We have also come to the conclusion that there is an opportunity to further develop price model equalizer in which a slider goes from solid steps to a sliding scale.

My starting point is the research program "Culture of ageing” and the theory that pensioners in the post- and late modern society conquer new potential areas. I am studying the meeting between pensioners and the gym. How the pensioners conquer the gym, relate to their training and what makesthem stay after the first introduction. The essay also touches on how the gym profiles themselves in their marketing and adapt at the equipment and training environment to meet pensioners' needs.
The essay also touches on how previous research, social norms and pensioner organizations, have influence on decisions and choices about the gym work out of pensioners. Individual discretion against creation of norms and perceptions of a good old age.
Aging actively is a standard but this standard is in an ongoing negotiation of an ever faster-accelerating process.

While the rituals of entering and exiting the gym and 'building' the muscularity raise questions of men's reflected societal states in North America, the changing social appreciation of the 'new' body images, and emerging holistic approach of wellness of body-mind have become the thresholds to rethink the previously hyper-masculine gym space and to reinvent a way to accommodate these new conditions. I have explored the design of a contemporary gym as a subterranean-heterotopic- site rooted in the current urban context to reflect its various and changing socio-spatial identities of each user. The design focus is to recognize the updated characteristics of the user spaces when the gym is introduced with the new programs of Totality of Body-Mind, or, a further embodied Mind Zone coming into the body activity program concepts, to create new physical and psychological inter-relationships, or Proximity of Heterotopic Stages, to the individual users.

Full textThis study examines how design can be used to highlight the current norms around masculinity within gym and excercise with the purpose of exploring how gyms better meet the gym visitors needs. The result of the study is developed in to a norm-creative concept and prototype. The literary research in the study describes how design has been used as a critical and highlighting tool and how current norms around masculinity and associated power relations expresses itself. The study’s concept and prototype are a possible suggestion for how a widened understanding of masculinity, gym and exercise could facilitate the gym meeting the gym visitors physical and mental needs by introducing values in the gymcontext which isn’t included in current masculinity.

Full textSociety is today moving away from centralized power towards decentralized systems. Instead of buying from large companies that create electricity from fossil fuels, many renewable alternatives have arrived. Since consumers can generate solar power with solar panels, they can also become the producers. This creates a large market for trading electricity between consumer instead of companies. This creates a so called microgrid. The purpose of this thesis is to find a solution to buying and selling on these microgrids. By using a Q-learning solution with the OpenAI Gym toolkit and a microgrid simulation this thesis aims to answer the following questions: To what extent can Q-learning be used to buy and sell energy in a microgrid system, how long does it take the buy and sell algorithm to train and finally does latency affect the feasibility of Q-learning for microgrids. To answer these questions, I must measure the latency and training time of the Q-learning solution. A neural network solution was also created to compare to the Q-learning solution. From these results I could tell some of it was not that reliable, but some conclusions could still be made. First, the extent that Q-learning can be used to buy and sell is quite great if just looking at the accuracy results of 97%, but this is on the microgrid simulation to be correct. How long it takes to buy and sell algorithm to train was measured to about 12 seconds. The latency is considered zero with the Q-learning solution, so it has great feasibility. Through these questions I can conclude that a Qlearning OpenAI Gym solution is a viable one.
