Abstract:
Secondarily treated wastewater is used extensively in the southwestern United States for turfgrass irrigation, but deterioration in soil quality can occur from sodium (Na) delivered by this water. Application of gypsum (CaSO₄2H₂O) at 2 240 kg ha⁻¹ yr⁻¹ is often recommended to control the Na. Research to determine if this rate is effective on effluent -irrigated turfgrass sites is lacking. A 2-yr study was carried out on a golf course fairway (typic tomf7uvent soil) with a 10 yr history of effluent irrigation and elevated Na levels (800 mg kg⁻¹). The effects of various application rates of gypsum (Aqua-cal = finely ground gypsum), langbeinite (K₂SO₄.2MgSO₄), and CaCl₂ (anhydrous) on exchangeable Na removal and saturated hydraulic conductivity of a sodic soil were investigated under laboratory batch studies and laboratory column leaching studies. The research involved four phases of studies. Characterization of the soil and irrigation water indicated that the soil sample is sodic (ESP=35.3), ECₑ = 3.36 dS/m), and the irrigation water is moderately saline (EC = 2.2 dS/m). Recent studies have been carried out in greenhouses to investigate mercury transport in FGD gypsum treated soil. Gypsum acts as a weak cementing material and has a moderate solubility of about 2.5 g/liter. Abstract:
There are several places in the world particularly middle East Asia and Africa has problem of gypsum contaminated soil known as gypsiferous soil. Gypsiferous soils cover approximately 100 million hectors in the world. Gypsum not only dissolve in presence of water it also changes geotechnical properties of soil. In the current study effect of gypsum on Atterberg limits and compaction character tics of soil was studied. Different percentage of gypsum was added with a soil from Rourkela to simulate the conditions of Gypsiferous soil. Laboratory test were conducted to determine effect of gupsum co

Abstract:
Stabilization of expansive soils with various calcium–based stabilizers (lime and cement) directly or in combinations with other solid waste materials such as fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) etc. is common approach by many foundation engineers to improve the properties, and conquer the distress caused by undesirable swell–shrink in the soil. Several researches have also been dedicated to understanding the complex ionic reactions and their products, and the mechanisms by which they affect the behaviour of expansive soils. Also, protocol for the lime stabilization of soil
