We define Γ(E), a subset of C³, related to the structured singular value μ of 2x2 matrices. μ is used to analyse performance and robustness of linear feedback systems in control engineering. We find a characterisation for the elements of Γ(E) and establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an analytic function from the unit disc into Γ(E) satisfying an arbitrary finite number of interpolation conditions. We continue to build support for the proposal to use H II galaxies (HIIGx) and giant extragalactic H II regions (GEHR) as standard candles to construct the Hubble diagram at redshifts beyond the current reach of Type Ia supernovae. Abstract:
This thesis considers the design of cascaded SISO control systems using the H&#8734; and QFT methodologies. In the first part of the thesis the actual advantages offered by Single Input Single Output (SISO) cascade loop structures are studied. In Quantitative Feedback Theory(QFT) it is emphasized that the use of cascaded loops is primarily for the reduction of bandwidth of the controllers. This in turn helps in considerable reduction of the adverse effects of high frequency noise.
