Abstract:
The Rankine closed cycle is a process in which beat is used to evaporate a fluid at constant pressure in a “boiler” or evaporator, from which the vapor enters a piston engine or turbine and expands doing work. The vapor exhaust then enters a vessel where heat is transferred from the vapor to a cooling fluid, causing the vapor to condense to a liquid, which is pumped back to the evaporator to complete the cycle. A layout of the plantship shown in Fig. 1-2. The basic cycle comprises four steps, as shown in the pressure-volume (p—V) diagram of Fig. 4-1. 1. Starting at point a, heat is added to the working fluid in the boiler until the temperature reaches the boiling point at the design pressure, represented by point b. 2. With further heat addition, the liquid vaporizes at constant temperature and pressure, increasing in volume to point c. 3. The high-pressure vapor enters the piston or turbine and expands adiabatically to point d. 4. The low-pressure vapor enters the condenser and, with heat removal at constant pressure, is cooled and liquefied, returning to its original volume at point a. The work done by the cycle is the area enclosed by the points a,b,c,d,a. This is equal to Hc–Hd, where H is the enthalpy of the fluid at the indicated point. The heat transferred in the process is Hc–Ha Thus the efficiency, defined as the ratio of work to heat used, is: . . . efficiency(η)=Hc–Hd/Hc–Ha (4.1.1) . . . Carnot showed that if the heat-engine cycle was conducted so that equilibrium conditions were maintained in the process, that the efficiency was determined solely by the ratio of the temperatures of the working fluid in the evaporator and the condenser. . . . η=TE–Tc/TE (4.1.2) . . . The maximum Carnot efficiency can be attained only for a cycle in which thermal equilibrium exists in each phase of the process; however, for power to be generated a temperature difference must exist between the working fluid in the evaporator and the warm-water heat source, and between the working fluid in the condenser and the cold-water heat sink.

Abstract .—Basic research on the settlement and postsettlement ecology of spiny lobster Panulirus argus has led to an application with the potential to replace lost natural refuge with artificial shelters intended for the vulnerable small juvenile stages. We began investigating ecological processes regulating juvenile spiny lobster recruitment in the Florida nursery in the mid-1980s. An unprecedented massive die-off of sponges in the middle Florida Keys followed cyanobacterial blooms in 1991–1993, ultimately affecting about 300 km2 of a region providing approximately one-fifth of total juvenile recruitment. Before 1991, crevices in sponges provided diurnal refuge from predators for about 70% of juveniles <50 mm carapace length. On the basis of sampling done before and after sponge loss, we estimated that juvenile abundance declined by 30–50% on spongeless sites without alternative shelter, resulting in a decrease of annual nurserywide potential of up to 10%. Results of a field experiment evaluating the relative influences of the magnitude of settlement and availability of crevice shelter on juvenile recruitment, fortuitously begun before the sponge die-off, showed that juvenile survival and abundance were sustained on small 0.02- to 0.07-ha test sites provided with supplemental artificial shelters (slotted concrete blocks). In the absence of sponges, survival of microwire-tagged juveniles on the shelter-supplemented sites was about six times higher than that on unsupplemented sites. On the basis of our earlier ecological findings, we devised a feasibility study to test whether the artificial shelters could replace lost sponge shelter for juvenile lobsters on a large scale. It took the form of a field experiment using 240 shelters spread over 1-ha sites located amid hard substrate denuded of sponges. The shelters provided substitute crevices, supporting juvenile lobster recruitment approximating that in areas with good sponge cover. This outcome exemplifies the essential value of initial basic research that provides understanding of the ecological processes regulating individual survival and, ultimately, the character and dynamics of the fishery population. Such an approach, and the information it provides, is necessary to successful rehabilitation of essential habitat or restocking of natural populations. Moreover, conducting basic research can help prevent the waste of precious time, funds, income, and human effort that typically has occurred in past failed attempts that were undertaken with insufficient knowledge. We urge the fisheries-ecology discipline and support agencies to promote strongly the primacy of research on basic processes.

Abstract:
Public hospitals should be designed to clover as wider inclusivity levels as possible forproviding access for all. Unfortunately, and for a variety of reasons, a quality service is not always provided. When evaluation of the service quality in healthcare organizations is carried out, it is mostly conducted in terms of medical service quality, whilst the physical layout, functionality and facilitating devices are not given as much scrutiny. Post Occupation Evaluation (POE) is notably an efficient process for checking the satisfaction of users after the building has been in-used for a certain period of times. However, hospital is generally a type of building and service that need to support users with a variety of physical capabilities thus, a conventional POE may not cover all requirements of users, so this research has employed the UD concepts as a basis to combined with POE for evaluating service performance of a hospital of the case study, Naresuan University hospital, THAILAND. Even though the POE delivered a good design suggestion that is beneficial to users with a wide range of physical ability but that may not guarantee the new design will be agreed by all stakeholders and implemented through success. As a matter of fact, to success an implementing of a good design does not depend solely on a designer, specifically for this case study, a universal design to a hospital. This research found that to make UD perfectly effects in a hospital (in Thailand context) may require more supportive factors beyond just pointing out problems related to physical conditions of the design and suggest a design solution. As in the context of Thailand, this research identified 4 factors contributing to the success of UD which the designer should be accountable for (1) public understanding of the basic concepts of UD (2) all the related background such as culture, tradition and economic etc. that contributed the attitudes of all stakeholders (of the hospital) towards people with physical impairments (3) the rights, laws, regulations and policies for people with disabilities in the context of the country and (4) the participation of all types of users. And in doing so, this research added an extensive evaluation to the general POE to cover as more factors as possible to those involved with the design implementation. Therefore, an extensive evaluation process so called “Comprehensive Post-Occupancy Evaluation C-POE” has been created and employed in this study for offering more comprehensive solution that cover all possibilities cause of problems, the evaluation processes are as follows; (1) evaluating physical features and users’ behavior (the experimental access audit), (2) examining administrative policy, HA and UD principles and (3) interviewing attitude of executives about UD.

"of control. The state of Queensland has generous expertise in this area, with the CSIRO Division of Entomology – Lands Department group in Brisbane boasting spectacular success against Salvinia and Eichhornia, and near the reservoir at James Cook University a USDA unit was involved in successes with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) (see Chapter 12) using a range of stem-boring and leaf-mining insects (Balciunas et al. 1993). One might consider the herbivorous grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella, originally from China, more as a harvester than a biological control agent. This fish grazes on submerged weeds such as Hydrilla, Myriophyllum, Chara, Potamogeton and Ceratophyllum, and at stocking rates of 75 fish/ha control is rapidly achieved. Some introductions in the USA have resulted in removal of all vegetation (Leslie et al. 1987), and in the Australian context the use of sterile (triploid) fish (Cassani and Canton 1985) could be the only consideration. However, in view of the damage already done by grass carp to some inland waterways in Australia, it is suspected that this option would be greeted with horror. Mechanical control involves the physical removal of weeds from a problem area and is useful in situations where the use of herbicides is not practical or poses risks to human health or the environment. Mobile harvesters sever, lift and carry plants to the shore. Most are intended for harvesting submerged plants, though some have been designed or adapted to harvest floating plants. Handling the harvested weed is a problem because of their enormous water content, therefore choppers are often incorporated into harvesting machinery design. However, many mechanical harvesters have a small capacity and the process of disposing of harvested plant material is time-consuming. Any material that remains may affect water quality during the decay process by depleting the water of oxygen. Furthermore, nutrients released by decay may cause algal blooms (Mitchell 1978). Another disadvantage of mechanical removal is that disturbance often promotes rapid new growth and germination of seed, and encourages the spread of weed by fragmentation. Some direct uses of macrophytes include the following: livestock food; protein extraction; manufacture of yeast; production of alcohol and other by-products; the formation of composts, mulches and fertilizers; and use for methane generation (Williams 1977). Herbicides either kill on contact, or after translocation through the plant. Some are residual and retain their toxicity for a period of time. Where herbicides are used for control of plants, some contamination of the water is inevitable (Bill 1977). The degree of contamination depends on the toxicity of the material, its fate and persistence in the water, the concentration used and the main purpose served by the water. After chemical defoliation of aquatic vegetation, the masses of decaying organic debris produced can interfere with fish production. Several factors must be taken into account when selecting and adapting herbicides for aquatic purposes, including: type of water use; toxicity of the herbicide to humans, fish, stock, and wildlife; rate of disappearance of residues, species affected and duration of control; concentration of herbicide; and cost (Bill 1977). The TVA has successfully used EPA-approved herbicides such as Endothall, Diquat, Fluridone and Komeen against Hydrilla (Burns et al. 1992), and a list of approved." In Water Resources. The structure of a digital musical instrument (DMI) can be splitted up in three parts: interface, mapping and synthesizer. For DMI’s, in which sound synthesis is done via software, the interaction interface serves to capture the performer’s gestures, which can be mapped under various techniques to different sounds. In this work, we bring videogame controls as an interface for musical interaction. Due to its great presence in popular culture and its ease of access, even people who are not in the habit of playing electronic games possibly interacted with this kind of interface once in a lifetime
