Abstract:

Abstract:
This dissertation intends to present and analyse the translation from English into Italian of the first twenty-five chapters of Habibi, a teenager and young adult’s novel written by the Palestinian-American author Naomi Shihab Nye. It has been necessary to present the theoretical approach to the literary translation studies, in order to focus the attention on the translation problems and provide suitable solutions and strategies. The first chapter gives an historical perspective on children’s literature from the end of the Nineteenth century till today, distinguishing the Italian and the American contexts. The description of the evolution process of this literary genre, which developed to satisfy the needs of the educational system, is its central issue. At the end of the chapter, we outline the main traits characterizing children’s literature and the image of the ideal reader. The second chapter provides an overview on Palestinian literature, especially on the features of the contemporary novel and the Diaspora literature. Afterwards, we present the author Naomi Shihab Nye and the book Habibi. In the third chapter we analyze the novel, focusing the attention on the rhythm of the narration, on the linguistic registers and the textual peculiarities found during the reading stage, according to the features of the children’s literature. The fourth chapter consists of the translation of the first twenty-five chapters of the novel. The fifth chapter begins with a section about the translation theory, the literary translation studies, focusing on the translation of children’s literature. Finally, there is the translation analysis. Here we present the strategies and the choices of the translation process, along with some practical examples with reference to theoretical studies. Special attention is paid to culture-specific items, lexicon and syntax. The source text can be found in appendix.

Abstract:
In narrative terms, this thesis analyses the spatial structure in the palestinian arabic novel especially in some literary works of gassan kanafani (1936-1972) and imil habibi (1922-1996). Its purpose is to demonstrate that the space of the novel is far from being simply a geographic setting; it is a narrative component. When considering the space as a verbal act able to be erected in a structure, we try to deal with its functional system. This can be achieved through the analysis of its narrative interrelations with the narrator, the character, the action and time. In the conclusion, we finally deal with the "spatiality" in the palestinian novel as a way of narrating the story

Abstract:
In the Arabo-Francophone culture, the literary value of narrative fiction often tends to intermingle with its subversive dimension. The present study deals with this problematical notion of subversion considered as a posture and a discursive modality. The disturbances inflicted on linguistic, enunciative and generic codes are analysed under the assumption that the writers' bilingualism and biculturalism favour this type of inspiration and nurture it. Indeed, the poetics of authors as different as Rachid BOUDJEDRA, Albert COSSERY, Edmond Amran EL MALEH, Émile HABIBI and Paul SMAÏL seem to meet around this double belonging, whether it is real or simply assumed. Together, text analysis and authors' postures observation enable us to discern a literary movement in which what is a priori offered as a political literature ends up being a metamorphosis of a literary policy

Abstract:
One of the most difficult set of behaviors for individuals to engage in is weight management. The United States boasts an astonishing 35% obesity rate in adults while children show almost a 20% obesity rate. These statistics identify the importance of developing effective methods to help change an individual's eating habits. There are many eating habits that may contribute to an individual gaining or losing weight over a period of time. Simplified habit reversal (SHR) has an impressive history in shaping desirable responses to compete with many different types of habitual behaviors. The present study extended the SHR procedure to eating habits in an attempt to affect change in types of foods and timing of eating for the purpose of weight reduction. Additionally, contingency contracting was added to increase the potential for adherence to eating habit goals. The three targeted behaviors were late night eating (LNE), consuming high sugar content beverages (HSCB), and unhealthy snacking (UHS). It was found that utilizing a treatment package utilizing a contingency contract plus SHR with typically developing adults could aide in reducing specific and well defined eating habits. A reduction in weight by all participants was also observed.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Public speaking is a challenge faced by people from all walks of life. Research in the area of public speaking has focused on examining techniques to reduce public speaking anxiety. Very little research, however, has focused on the acquisition of public speaking skills. While presenting speeches, many people engage in nervous habits that have the potential to decrease the effectiveness of the speech and their credibility as a speaker. This study evaluated the effectiveness of simplified habit reversal in reducing three of these nervous habits: filled pauses, tongue clicking, and inappropriate use of the word like. Following baseline, participants received simplified habit reversal training that consisted of awareness training and competing response training. During post-intervention assessments all 6 participants exhibited an immediate decrease in all three target behaviors.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses how Craig Thompson’s Habibi (2011) constructs the oriental sacred through Arabic calligraphy, weaving sacrality into the visual and textual narrative of the imagined, exotic other. The exotic and even erotic forms of calligraphy stylize a natural and imminently accessible sacred that works within an oriental mode of visual exposure. We can see this oriental sacred in the natural landscape, in the mythic and salvific animals, in the Islamic textual traditions of hadiths and Qur’an, and in the material body of Dodola who captures the young Zam’s erotic fantasies. Thompson deploys calligraphy to open Islamic and Arabic culture to the oriental gaze, imagining the sacred within the imagined world of Richard Burton’s 1,001 Arabian Nights. Within this space and gaze, Arabic calligraphy takes on the form and function of the sacred orient.

A set of features are shared by traditional cities where dominated by Islam religion. The notion of “Islamic city”, often criticised for its Eurocentric nature, has guided most studies of these traditional cities. The modernisation process in so-called Islamic cities is crucial due to its serious impacts on the traditional morphology and transformation of their urban structure. We, thus, need more holistic and integrated understanding about changes of these cities derives from the modernisation process. In order to explore the broad and wide-spread changes due to modernisation process in the traditional cities in Muslim world, it is more enlightening if we study second order cities, rather than studying the transformations of major capitals such as Cairo, Istanbul or Teheran, where interventions are goal to approach a more exceptional and rhetorical characters. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to study the historic core of Kermanshah city, to understand the link between urban transformations and social due to modernisation process by tracing it historically. We will focus, particularly, on studying the stages of urban transformation and changes of urban morphology as well as conflict and differences between traditional urban features with the modern ones. For example, we are interested in understanding how traditional morphology and structure of residential and commercial zone are affected by the opening of new and wide boulevards in course of modernisation process, and how these changes influence everyday people life. Abstract:
This study uses a Fickian-Distribution parameterization [Chen & Lamb, 1994] to model the effects of ice habits on contrail formation within a large eddy simulation (LES). Box model cases were first performed at various ambient temperatures and relative humidities over ice (RHi) and results compared with available laboratory data of ice crystal growth and habit distribution [Bailey & Hallett, 2004]. The model was then used in a full 3-D LES of contrails and results were compared with in-situ observations [Febvre et. al., 2009]. Comparisons are also made with results from simulations that used a probabilistic ice habit model [Inamdar et. al., 2013].

Abstract:
Background: Physical activity among school-age adolescents make them skipping the breakfast. Skipping breakfast can cause a loss of energy and nutrients needed for hemoglobin (Hb) synthesis. This study aimed to examine the effect of breakfast on anemia levels among female adolescent. Subjects and Method: A cross-sectional was conducted by involving 30 female adolescent aged 13-15. The study subjects were divided into 30 female adolescent had breakfast group and 30 female adolescent had no breakfast group. Breakfast was the consumption of food and side dishes from waking up until 10:00 AM. The dependent variable was Hb level and the dependent variable was breakfast. The data were collected by measuring the HB level and questionnaire. The data then analyzed using Chi-square test. The association between breakfast habits and hemoglobin levels was analyzed by means of the Gamma Somers test. Results: The breakfast habit increased the Hb level among female adolescent (OR= 1.75; p= 0.003), and it was statistically significant. Conclusion: Female adolescent with a good breakfast habit increase the Hb level and prevent the anemia. Keywords: breakfast, female adolescent, hemoglobin levels Correspondence: Ropitasari.
