After an initial presentation of related research, some concepts such as implied narrator, implied reader, as well as intertextuality in translation and dual audience in children’s literature are explained. This thesis examines the effects that Pleistocene glaciation had on the population structure and contemporary genetic patterns of the hairy woodpecker (Picoides villosus). A combination of molecular markers, revealed reduced levels of gene flow among groups of hairy woodpeckers. Microsatellite analyses suggest barriers to gene flow have influenced contemporary population structure, with higher structure found in western North America where barriers to gene flow are more prevalent. The evaluation of novel polyimides for nematic liquid crystal alignment by UV irradiation was the aim of this thesis. Homeotropic liquid crystal (LC) alignment was observed for the majority of the in-house synthesised hairy-rod polyimides (PIs). Oblique unpolarised UV irradiation of branched PIs results in pretilted LCs of 2 deg to 88 deg depending on chemical composition, processing history and fluence. J.K. Rowlings bok Harry Potter och de vises sten är en ungdomsbok som slagit igenom och fångat många barn, ungdomar och vuxna. I denna studie undersöks huvudkaraktären Harry Potters identitetsutveckling genom en didaktiskt inriktad litteraturanalys. Analysen utgår från psykologiska teorier om ungdomars identitetsutveckling, vilken kan delas in i fyra faser. De två första faserna visar sig vara de som var tydligast i Harrys identitetsutveckling. Abstract:
The goal of this thesis is to examine the relationship between race, masculinity, and the politics of success as they relate to the figure of Harry Belafonte. During the 1950s and 1960s he was, by all accounts, a wildly successful performer and, due to his celebrity, avoided many of indignities which plagued the daily lives of most African Americans. Although this was typically taken as a sign of race's declining importance in American culture, the varied reaction to his success show that even 'success stories' of integration during this period were far from clear cut.
