Abstract:
There have been not many studies on the perception of special hairstyles and their images. Under such circumstances, this study attempted to suggest selection criteria and provide basic data about special hairstyles to express particular personality or images. For this, a self-administered questionnaire survey on the perception of special hairstyles and images by their type was performed against the public with the special hairstyle stimuli categorized into 3 different typical styles. Among a total of 350 questionnaires distributed, 329 copies were used for final analysis. The collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis and descriptive statistics, using SPSS 22.0, and the results found the followings: The above results confirm that special hairstyles are a good means to create a ‘unique’ image. The most popular special hairstyle was ‘dreads’. Therefore, there should be further studies on how to express diverse personalities through special hairstyles instead of focusing on a particular image. In this sense, it is anticipated that an special hairstyle would evolve into a good means of personality expression.

Abstract:
Interest in hairstyling, which is a means of expressing oneself, has increased, as has the number of people who are attempting to change their hairstyles. A considerable amount of time is required for women to change their hair back from a style that does not suit them, or for women to regrow their long hair after changing their hair to a short hairstyle that they do not like. In this paper, we propose a model combining Mask R-CNN and a generative adversarial network as a method of overlaying a new hairstyle on one’s face. Through Mask R-CNN, hairstyles and faces are more accurately separated, and new hairstyles and faces are synthesized naturally through the use of a generative adversarial network. Training was performed over a dataset that we constructed, following which the hairstyle conversion results were extracted. Thus, it is possible to determine in advance whether the hairstyle matches the face and image combined with the desired hairstyle. Experiments and evaluations using multiple metrics demonstrated that the proposed method exhibits superiority, with high-quality results, compared to other hairstyle synthesis models.

Abstract:
In appearance, hair is an important aspect. In this modern era, hairstyles are becoming more and more varied. So, a lot of teenage men have trouble determining a suitable hairstyle. One factor in determining hairstyles is the shape of their faces. Often, teenagers don't match the haircut they've chosen. It can make you feel less confident and feel less in terms of appearance. Because it requires a system to recognize the shape of the face and determine the appropriate hairstyle. The most common method of grouping is the CNN method. In this study, the recommended hairstyles of male hair models and facial shapes detected are Oval, Box, Long Square, and Round. This study has accuracy with an average presentation of 85%.

Abstract:
Despite recent successes in hair acquisition that fits a high-dimensional hair model to a specific input subject, generative hair models, which establish general embedding spaces for encoding, editing, and sampling diverse hairstyles, are way less explored. In this paper, we present GroomGen , the first generative model designed for hair geometry composed of highly-detailed dense strands. Our approach is motivated by two key ideas. First, we construct hair latent spaces covering both individual strands and hairstyles. The latent spaces are compact, expressive, and well-constrained for high-quality and diverse sampling. Second, we adopt a hierarchical hair representation that parameterizes a complete hair model to three levels: single strands, sparse guide hairs, and complete dense hairs. This representation is critical to the compactness of latent spaces, the robustness of training, and the efficiency of inference. Based on this hierarchical latent representation, our proposed pipeline consists of a strand-VAE and a hairstyle-VAE that encode an individual strand and a set of guide hairs to their respective latent spaces, and a hybrid densification step that populates sparse guide hairs to a dense hair model. GroomGen not only enables novel hairstyle sampling and plausible hairstyle interpolation, but also supports interactive editing of complex hairstyles, or can serve as strong data-driven prior for hairstyle reconstruction from images. We demonstrate the superiority of our approach with qualitative examples of diverse sampled hairstyles and quantitative evaluation of generation quality regarding every single component and the entire pipeline.

Abstract:
In this article, we review research on social factors with the main focus being on how self, social factors and fashion consciousness interact with the choice of hairstyles. By highlighting the situations of 397 Ghanaian female youth, we show how their perspectives define beautiful hairstyles and how social factors interact with the choice of hairstyle with fashion consciousness as a mediator. Using social actual-concept and social factors on behaviours as theoretical frameworks, we show the influence of religious influence, views of social group members, attractiveness and uniqueness on choice of hairstyle. Mediator analyses indicate that fashion consciousness explains the interactions among views of social group members and attractiveness with the choice of hairstyle. Implications for marketing and future directions for research on choice of hairstyle are suggested.

A modern society has rapidly changed under the influence of mass media and social media. As a result, trend patterns have become shorter and more diverse. Under these circumstances, men as well as women have shown interest in beauty, and personality and aesthetic desire have become more varied. This study attempted to design and develop men’s wigs by applying and reinterpreting characteristics of length changes in men’s hairstyles based on standard men’s haircut. For this, related data were collected through literature searches, academic papers and the Internet information, and hairstyle changes and trends were analyzed. In this study, 8 different haircuts and 14 different hairstyles were created by using both standard men’s haircuts and trendy hairstyles.

Abstract:
Traditional GAN-based image generation networks cannot accurately and naturally fuse surrounding features in local image generation tasks, especially in hairstyle generation tasks. To this end, we propose a novel transformer-based GAN for new hairstyle generation networks. The network framework comprises two modules: Face segmentation (F) and Transformer Generative Hairstyle (TGH) modules. The F module is used for the detection of facial and hairstyle features and the extraction of global feature masks and facial feature maps. In the TGH module, we design a transformer-based GAN to generate hairstyles and fix the details of the fusion part of faces and hairstyles in the new hairstyle generation process. To verify the effectiveness of our model, CelebA-HQ (Large-scale CelebFaces Attribute) and FFHQ (Flickr-Faces-HQ) are adopted to train and test our proposed model. In the image evaluation test used, FID, PSNR, and SSIM image evaluation methods are used to test our model and compare it with other excellent image generation networks. Our proposed model is more robust in terms of test scores and real image generation.

This article investigates Isaksson's claim for the hairstyle thesis and concludes that a study of the verb κατακαλυπτω will permit a translation only of textile head coverings.

Abstract:
Mass Christianization of the peoples of Yakutia (Eastern Siberia) at the end of the 18th century led to the development of a demotic Christianity throughout the 19th century. There were new rules, according to which a woman was not permitted to appear in public with her head uncovered, and therefore the marking function of the hairstyles became obsolete. This could explain the absence of rituals and rules associated with women’s hair and hairstyles in the Yakut culture of the 19th–20th centuries. The aim of this study is to prove a hypothesis, according to which pendants of hair ornamentation duplicate braids, and studying the pendants of the headrest ‘nachel’nik’ allows recreation of women’s hairstyle that had been in use before the period of mass Christianization. The article is based on the analysis of written, material, and visual sources of the 18th–19th centuries. Information about the hairstyles and adornments of the Yakuts is contained within the records of travelers of the 18th–19th centuries. Among the ethnographic works on the peoples of Siberia, one can find drawings depicting maidens and women, where particular attention is given to their hair. These materials were correlated with the data of the archaeological excavations of Yakut female burials of the 18th century. The obtained results were compared with the materials from the 19th century — photographs of women in national costumes and jewelry from museum collections. According to the results of the study, it can be stated that there was a tradition of changing maiden’s hairstyle to woman’s hairstyle in the context of the wedding ritualism. New rules of conduct, social roles, especially regulations on the appearance of women, were formalized in the society in the 19th century with the mass Christianization of the peoples of Yakutia. There were new rules, according to which a woman was not permitted to appear in public with her head uncovered, and therefore the marking function of hairstyles became obsolete. This could explain the absence of rituals and rules associated with women’s hair and hairstyles in the Yakut culture of the 19th–20th centuries.

Abstract:
Using an inductive qualitative approach, this study examined natural Black hair bias in the workplace. An analysis of 274 comments posted to online discussion boards revealed that some Black women are embracing natural hairstyles, but many feel pressured to conform to Eurocentric hairstyles and some have experienced negative consequences stemming from their natural hairstyle choices. Within the comments, three major themes, namely,(1) hair bias, (2) identity (including self-concept and identity transition), and (3) conformity, as well as five minor themes, were identified. Based on the qualitative analysis, we identified labeling theory, identity theories (self-concept and identity transition), and the facades of conformity theory as relevant and useful in guiding future research. The key themes were integrated into a model to provide a more comprehensive story of hair bias experiences that may be useful in guiding future research.

The main focus of the study was to investigate on women’s hairstyle names in Kinondoni Municipal Council, which is found in Dar es Salaam region, Tanzania. This paper focuses on two specific objectives, namely to identify women’s hairstyle names and to find out the structural patterns of women’s hairstyle names. The study is a qualitative study guided by onomastic theory of naming and morpheme-based theory. The study employed descriptive research designs. Semi-structured interview and observation methods were used to collect data, where 16 respondents who were obtained through snowball and convenience sampling techniques. The findings reveal that, women’s hairstyles have meanings which are either denotative or connotative or both. They are derived from different sources such as insects, number, appearance, parts of human body, animal body parts, flora, insecticides, land forms, social events and names of famous people. Therefore, women’s hairstyle names in Kinondoni are deliberately created, not accidentally constructed. Moreover, women’s hairstyle names in Kinondoni Municipality possess morphological and syntactic patterns. Under morphological structure, women’s hairstyle names are in free morphemes, affixation, compounding and reduplication. Syntactically, women’s hairstyle names have noun phrases and sentential structures. In relation to the data from the field, the paper concludes that there is no rigidity on women’s hairstyle names compared to other kinds of names such as personal names. This is because women’s hairstyle names are replaced or used interchangeably with other hairstyle names which mean the same.

Abstract:
Hairstyling trends among Black women fluctuate with social, cultural, and environmental pressures. Dermatologists should be aware of current trends and their associated risks in order to provide the best care to this population. In order to summarize the updated trends and associated health risks for the most common hairstyles worn by Black women, a literature review was performed. PubMed and EMBASE were used to identify articles related to hair styling practices, studies on the effects or risks of various styling practices, and magazine articles citing current styling trends among women of African descent. All hairstyles were found to have associated health risks; however, natural styles had the fewest adverse associations of all styles reviewed. Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA) is the most cited hair disorder in this population, possibly linked to both chemical relaxants and traction styles. Additional studies are needed to further establish causality between these styles and CCCA. Additionally, while acceptance of natural hairstyles is on the rise, there is more work to be done throughout society to help protect and encourage women who choose to wear Afrocentric styles. Dermatologists should be well versed in these hairstyles and ready to lend appropriate advice to patients when it is requested.

It is anticipated hairstyles created with traditional Chinese flower-and-bird paintings as motives are valuable enough to be displayed as an art genre and that they would make a contribution to the growth and development of hair art.

Abstract:
Recently, hairstyle trends have changed drastically in relation to K-beauty. Therefore, this study performed an atypical big day analysis to analyze hairstyle trends before and after COVID-19. Next, Naver and Google collected a total of 65,776 keywords using Textom, a text data analysis program, from the last four years (two years from January 2018 to December 2019 before COVID-19 and two years from January 2020 to December 2021 after COVID-19). And by refining unnecessary words for text mining, 50 key keywords were derived each before and after COVID-19 and used for empirical analysis. In the top 50 keywords, it was found that hair, perm style, men, women, cuts, and short hair were the main keywords. In the semantic network analysis using UCINET 6.0 and Netdraw, it was confirmed that keywords such as hair, perm style, male and female, change, and cut are highly connected with other keywords. Finally, as a result of CONCOR analysis, before COVID-19, it was divided into four clusters: styling, cut style, promotion, and style transformation, and after COVID-19, it was divided into three clusters: style transformation, promotion, and styling. These analysis results confirm trends related to hairstyles, key components and promotional channels for hairstyle fields.

Abstract:
At 1 Pet. 3.3, Peter describes and criticizes elaborate female hairstyles and adornment. His criticism has been interpreted as a call for women of the Christian faith to adopt modest, undecorated forms of dress. This short study contends that Peter’s criticism of the female hairdo, ἐμπλοκής τριχῶν, and associated costume, may not be limited to admonishing fashionable Roman female dress. Peter’s criticism may, in fact, relate to a rejection of Roman female attire connected with ritual. Examination of the similarities of the hairstyle that Peter mentions to the infulae and vittae, with which Roman women supposedly adorned themselves, supports this contention. Infulae and vittae are hitherto unstudied adornments within current available commentaries on 1 Peter and, as shown in this brief explanation, are certainly worthy of further consideration in relation to this portion of the text.

Abstract:
This study attempted to examine the formative characteristics of hair-by-night styles from the Korean beauty skills competition and analyze its meaning. The formative analysis of hair-by-night styles from the Korean beauty skills competition is a must-have tool in understanding the value and meaning of hairstyles through the analysis of visual elements. It is a field to be studied and developed continuously to obtain better results in aesthetics and design. It is anticipated that emphasis on the importance of such formative analysis would be available as basic data needed to increase and further develop applicability to diverse fields. This study analyzed shape, texture, color and direction flows, and the results found the followings: In terms of the formative characteristics of hair by night, symmetric forms were observed. In addition, triangular structure was designed at the front in an elegant and stable form. They can be defined as a dinner-party style which maximizes brilliance, using at least two different hairpieces, maintaining their creative style and uniformity. Hair directions and shapes at the front, side and nape varied depending on the position of a hairpiece. This study examined hairstyles from the beauty skills competition only so that it is limited in generalizing the formative characteristics of hairstyles. It is hoped that Korean hairstyles would evolve in a more creative fashion, gradually going beyond the formality and limit of conventional design.

Abstract:
AbstractThere is much research on race and schooling focused on punitive discipline, but little attention is paid to how teachers and administrators use minor policies to coerce students to “willingly” adopt hegemonic ideologies, particularly the ones that correspond to Whiteness. In this work, Whiteness is conceptualized as a social concept in which forms of knowledge, skills, and behavioral traits are cultivated for the sake of maintaining White supremacy as the dominant ideology in the social organization of structures and people. My work explores how teachers and administrators use school dress code policies, specifically the policies regarding hairstyles, to indoctrinate Black students into Whiteness. I argue that schools are sites intended to racialize Black students into White society. I argue that dress codes that regulate hairstyles are a form of White hegemony. I ground my work in Antonio Gramsci and John Gaventa’s theoretical views of hegemony to conceptualize how administrators and teachers invoke forms of domination and coercion to force Black students to transform their appearance for the sake of upholding White ideals of professionalism. I offer a critical race conceptual model that articulates how power is enacted upon Black students to further a White aesthetic. The conceptual model highlights how teachers and administrators assign racialized social meanings to different hairstyles and unconsciously or consciously reinforce the idea that Black hairstyles hinder Black students’ performance in the classroom and reduce their future employment opportunities. Contemporary examples of Black students’ experiences in school are cases that validate this model. I argue that dress code policies about hair that incur minor infractions are destructive to Black students’ sense of identity and reinforce Whiteness as the normative frame of civil society.

Abstract:
In October 2022, the National Human Rights Commission of Korea confirmed that school regulations regarding hair length infringe upon students’ rights. Back in 1982, the Ministry of Education introduced ‘Hairdo Freedom’. Since then, the regulations have been adjusted in response to social changes. Nonetheless, witnessing such regulations being lifted remains exceptional. In fact, there have been various discussions regarding regulations for employees as well as students. These changes indicate that our society has transitioned from an era of ‘respect for human rights’ to an era of ‘respect for individuality’. The respect for individuality forms the foundation for the ground for the growth of beauty industry. This necessitates a high level of professionalism in each field because consumers seek out experts who can distinguish themselves with unique styling skills and expertise. Consequently, beauty corporations have strived to introduce new styles on a quarterly or annual basis, while small businesses have also been releasing their own styles. In this new era of information and communications technology (ICT), consumers access information about these experts through their mobile devices. Therefore, it is the right time to develop new and creative ideas to effectively respond to such changes. Throughout the extensive history of art, nature has served as a focal point for aesthetic inspiration. In fact, it holds great symbolic significance as an art motif in design because it offers a wealth of unique images that can inspire people to create imaginative artworks. These days, the trend-sensitive beauty industry has experienced an increase in demand for distinctive and creative designs. Given these circumstances, it seems that nature could serve as a creative and distinctive source of inspiration. Therefore, this study proposes practical hairstyles inspired by such natural images.

Abstract:
This article investigates whether Paul is recommending a veil for women in the context of worship, or whether he is discussing appropriate hairstyles for them. A closer look at the passage of 1 Corinthians 11:4–16 shows first of all that Paul is not discussing only women, but the appropriate attire for both men and women in light of what is proper and expected in the Greco-Roman society of his time. The absence of a word for “veil” in the original text points to the possibility of a discussion of hairstyles and not apparel for the head. Archaeological and textual evidence from this period supports this interpretation.

Appearance is an important thing to be considered by every group. For a man, having a neat hairstyle can give added value to the man. But who would have thought that in Islam there are several hairstyles that are recommended and disgraced in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet SAW. The purpose of this study is to discuss the nature of hair and the way the Prophet combs his hair, as well as the opinion of the Ulama regarding ittaba'. This research uses a type of qualitative research using the library research method or library study analysis. The literature study method is a method of collecting some data obtained from trusted sources or literature, both in the form of hadith master books, journals and websites. The results of this study indicate that the length of the Prophet's hair ranged from reaching both sides of the ear and both shoulders when he did not shave it. The Prophet was not fixated on one state of hair although the most serious state was to leave it short and neat. The Prophet preferred the hairstyle of the Jews and Christians which was left loose. In addition, the Prophet also imitated the hairstyle like the tradition of the polytheists which was split in the middle. This study found that the different lengths of the Prophet's hair mentioned in the hadith are very important to make his hair neat. Therefore, if one wants to follow the Prophet's hair Sunnah, they can shave, comb, or tie their long hair.

Abstract:
This article looks at the activism of Kang Hyang-nan and other feminists with the Rose of Sharon Alliance (Kŭnuhoe) during the 1920s in colonial Korea, tracing how Kang and her colleagues used short hair as a symbol of feminist resistance. While the bobbed cut and women’s rebellion against traditional hairstyles became subject of public debate, Kang and others were able to destabilize views about the “naturalness” of female inferiority in Korea. These activists capitalized on the debates over the meanings and propriety of women’s hairstyles not only to challenge traditional gender roles, but also to suggest the constructed nature of gender itself. However, these feminist meanings of short hair for Kang and others became overshadowed by other images by the 1930s, which foregrounded the short-haired woman as an emblem of modernity, consumerism, and female sensuality.

Abstract:
AbstractResearch on candidate evaluation has delved into questions of how voters evaluate women candidates, Black male candidates, as well as how candidates’ appearances may condition electoral opportunities. Combined, this scholarship has tended to focus on how race, gender, and skin tone privilege or undermine evaluations of Black male or White women candidates. We intervene to study Black women candidates and draw on research on colorism and Black women's hairstyles and ask: How does variation in skin tone and hairstyle affect Black voter evaluations of Black women candidates? We develop and test two hypotheses: the empowerment hypothesis and the internal discrimination hypothesis. We mostly find support for the latter. Importantly, we find that the interaction of dark skin and non-straight hair has mostly negative effects on Black men and women's trait evaluations, but a positive effect on Black women's willingness to vote for the candidate. Furthermore, this research shows that hair texture is an important aspect of responses to Black women candidates—hair is not just hair for Black women candidates. This research shows that understanding the effects of candidate appearance on voter behavior necessitates considering the intersection of racial and gender phenotypes.
