Abstract:

Depuis une dizaine d'années, la France s'est engagée dans la lutte contre les discriminations « raciales », c'est-à-dire contre les discriminations fondées sur l'origine réelle ou supposée des personnes à partir de leurs caractéristiques visibles. Sous l'influence du droit communautaire, la législation a intégré une définition objectivée de la discrimination : la discrimination directe n'est plus nécessairement rattachée à une intention discriminatoire ; et, la discrimination indirecte permet de vérifier que les mesures neutres en apparence n'ont pas d'impact particulièrement désavantageux sur les populations d'origine immigrée et ultra-marine. L'égalité de traitement est ainsi concrètement appréciée afin de mieux garantir l'effectivité du droit à la non-discrimination "raciale". L'aménagement de la preuve doit favoriser la juridictionnalisation des discriminations, étape nécessaire pour légitimer et préciser le droit rénové. Mais, la définition exigeante de la discrimination impose aussi des obligations positives aux personnes morales qui doivent réviser l’ensemble des critères et procédures de sélection. Elle implique une implication des pouvoirs publics, notamment via la HALDE, pour soutenir les victimes, diffuser le droit antidiscriminatoire et promouvoir le droit à l'égalité de traitement. Pour autant, l'articulation de ces nouvelles définitions n'est pas évidente sur le terrain des discriminations « raciales ». Il faut notamment tenir compte du contexte politique français et de l’interdit constitutionnel (art. 1er), qui induisent une protection maximale du droit à la non-discrimination « raciale » et interdisent la catégorisation des origines. Enfin, la recherche de l’effectivité du droit à la non-discrimination « raciale » semble être mise à mal par l’émergence du paradigme utilitariste de la diversité
For the past ten years, France has been committed to fighting "racial" discrimination, specifically discriminations based on the genuine or surmised origin of individuals based on their physical features or names. Influenced by EU Law, French legislation has adopted an objective definition of discrimination: direct discrimination that no longer requires an underlying intention to discriminate. Indirect discrimination serves to ensure that otherwise neutral measures do not have a deleterious effect on immigrant and Caribbean populations. Equal treatment can therefore be objectively appraised, which reinforces the effectiveness of the right not to be discriminated against. The admissibility of evidence must evolve to bring more discrimination cases to trial, which is a prerequisite to endow anti-discrimination law with more legitimacy and clarity. At the same time, a strict definition of discrimination creates positive obligations for legal entities to review their selection criteria and processes. It calls for a commitment among public authorities, including through HALDE, to support victims, to raise awareness of anti-discrimination law, and to promote the right to equal treatment. Nevertheless, implementing theses definitions is challenging, specifically in the context of “racial” discrimination. The French background, as well as the Constitutional ban on all discrimination (art. 1), which fully guarantees the right not to be discriminated against on racial grounds and bans the collection of ethnic data, must both be taken into account. Finally, the effectiveness of the right not to be discriminated against may be undermined by the rise of a utilitarian view of diversity

Abstract:

In der Habilitationsschrift sind die Ergebnisse einer über 20-jährigen Entwicklungstätigkeit zusammengefasst, die zum Deponie- und Haldenwasserhaushaltmodell BOWAHALD geführt haben. Beim Modell BOWAHALD handelt es sich um ein anwendungsorientiertes Mehrschichtenboxmodell, das die wesentlichen in Oberflächensicherungen ablaufenden hydrologischen Prozesse quantifiziert. Die Hauptanwendungsbereiche des Modells BOWAHALD sind Wasserhaushaltsuntersuchungen zum Istzustand einer Halde bzw. Deponie, Planungsszenarien in Bezug auf die wasserhaushaltliche Optimierung einer Oberflächensicherung, Sickerwasserprognosen von Halden-/Deponieflaechen, Beurteilung der Chancen für eine ausreichende Vegetationsentwicklung sowie eine qualitative Einschätzung der Langzeitbeständigkeit vorhandener bzw. zu planender Sicherungsmaßnahmen. Mit dem Modell BOWAHALD liegt ein hierfür praktikables Instrumentarium vor, das den Nutzer in die Lage versetzt, mit vertretbarem Aufwand bezüglich Daten- und Parameterhandling anwendungsorientierte Lösungen zu erarbeiten. Zahlreiche Modellanwendungen für die verschiedensten wasserhaushaltlichen Problemstellungen, die mit Oberflächensicherungen im Zusammenhang stehen, belegen dies und sind mit Sicherheit ein wesentlicher Grund dafür, dass das Modell BOWAHALD insbesondere in Sachsen eine weite Verbreitung und Anerkennung gefunden hat.

Abstract:

Depuis une vingtaine d’années, le droit français de la non-discrimination ne cesse de s’enrichir notamment sous l'influence du droit international et européen. La multiplication des normes ne suffit pourtant pas à produire l’effet escompté ; leur complexité rend même ce droit difficilement accessible pour les travailleurs comme pour les employeurs. La création d'une autorité indépendante (2004), missionnée pour combattre les discriminations et promouvoir l’égalité, a fortement contribué à faire évoluer l'ensemble du dispositif de protection. L'absorption de la Halde par le Défenseur des droits (2011) aurait pu faire douter du maintien de l'objectif de lutte contre les discriminations au travail (lato sensu). Il n'en est rien. L'action de cette nouvelle autorité, d’assise constitutionnelle, participe de l'effectivité de l’arsenal juridique en ce domaine. En témoigne sa contribution à la mobilisation et à l'enrichissement du droit substantiel ainsi qu'au renforcement de l’action publique contre les discriminations dans l’emploi, qui sont probablement les plus nombreuses et donc significatives. Si la question politique (et constitutionnelle) demeure de savoir si le Défenseur des droits pourrait devenir un contre-pouvoir, il apparaît que, sur le plan juridique, il contribue à enrichir la substance du droit de la non-discrimination tout en œuvrant pour le renforcement et la multiplication des actions permettant de le mettre en œuvre, en particulier dans le domaine de l'emploi
Since twenty years, the non-discrimination law continues to enhance specially under the influence of the International and European Law. The multiplication of the norms isn’t however sufficient to achieve the desired effect ; their complexity even makes this law difficult to access for the employees as well as for the employers. The creation of an independent authority (2004), in charge of fighting against discrimination and promoting equality, has strongly contributed to improving the protection overall. The absorption of the Halde by the Defender of rights (2011) could have created a doubt regarding maintaining the objective of fighting against discriminations at work. It is not. The action of this new constitutional authority is involved in the effectiveness of the broad legal spectrum in this area. Evidenced by its contribution to the mobilization and the enhancement of the substantive law and the reinforcement of public action against discrimination in employment, which are probably the largest and therefore significant. If the political question (and constitutional) remains to determine if the the Defender of rights could become a counterpower, it appears that, legally, he helps to enrich the substance of the right of non-discrimination while working on the reinforcement and the multiplication of actions to enabling it’s implementation, especially in employment

Abstract:

La norme pénale n'est plus l'unique règle de droit sanctionnant les discriminations, elle ne constitue qu'une disposition parmi toutes celles composant la politique criminelle de lutte contre les discriminations. Son incapacité à offrir une réponse suffisante a justifié cette évolution. Pourtant, il convient de démontrer que la norme pénale occupe encore une réelle fonction au sein de cette politique criminelle. En rattachant la discrimination au respect de la dignité humaine, la norme pénale a élaboré un concept éthique de non-discrimination. Le traitement des discriminations n'en reste pas moins éclectique. La multiplicité des mesures adoptées n'a pas permis de faire face à toutes les carences existantes. Le système actuel reste perfectible, sa complexité ne permet pas une définition suffisante des rôles de chaque voie de traitement ou de chaque acteur. La subsistance d'atteintes graves, qui ne sauraient se passer d'une sanction pénale, induit l'idée qu'un nouvel équilibre doit être instauré.

Abstract:

Es werden Prozesse der Verwitterung und des Stoffaustrages aus Halden des Kupferschieferbergbaus untersucht. An zwei Halden unterschiedlichen Typs und Alters wurden mineralogische und geochemische Untersuchungen durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse belegen eine geringe Mobilität der Schwermetalle in den älteren Armerzhalden. In den modernen Großhalden stellt die Salinität ein mobilisierendes Moment für die Metalle dar. Aus den erhobenen standort- und stoffspezifischen Daten wurden unter Einbeziehung des Ionenwechselwirkungsansatzes nach PITZER geochemische Modellvorstellungen entwickelt, die eine adäquate Beschreibung der Lösungs- und Mischungsprozesse in der Halde sowie eine Prognose der künftigen Sickerwasserqualität erlauben. Die Ergebnisse werden im Hinblick auf die Umweltrelevanz und Möglichkeiten des weiteren Umgangs mit den Halden diskutiert.

Travail qui s'attache a montrer qu'un principe démonstratif directement lie a la querelle des rites double le principe encyclopédique généralement reconnu dans la compilation sur la chine du p. Du halde (1674-1743), dont la notoriété durable et l'impact sur les représentations de la chine au siècle des lumières, et au-dela, a été assurée par Voltaire. Base sur un examen critique des archives ayant transité dans le cabinet de travail du P. Du Halde, dispersées par confiscation lors de la proscription de la compagnie de Jésus en France en 1762, le travail met en relief l'importance du corpus de traductions incluses dans l'oeuvre et leur fonction démonstrative pour réfuter les imputations d’athéisme brandies par les adversaires des rites chinois. La publication de la description se situe dans la phase finale de la querelle des rites, sept années avant la date de 1742 a laquelle les rites chinois furent condamnes par Rome. La thèse est divisée en deux parties distribuées successivement dans les volumes 1 et 2. La première partie, qui correspond au volume 1, détaille la composition de l'ouvrage en insistant sur les rapports entre le compilateur et ses vingt-sept contributeurs ainsi que sur la fidélité a un programme d'information sur la chine réclame par les milieux académiques. La seconde partie exposée dans le volume 2, dégage cinq thèmes saillants du plaidoyer en faveur des interprétations de la culture chinoise des jésuites et la justification de leurs méthodes évangélisation. L'appareil d'annexes fournit des listes qui recensent les apports individuels des contributeurs cites, les ponctions sur les lettres édifiantes et curieuses, série de recueils supervises par le P. Du Halde depuis 1709, la localisation des traductions identifiées, ainsi que des indices recueillis en archives qui pourront servir a une identification ultérieure de celles qui n'ont pas encore été identifiées.

Abstract:

Basierend auf einer Analyse der spezifischen Merkmale der Drucksondierung (DS) und der radiometrischen Kombinationsdrucksondierung (KDS) sowie einer Dimensionsanalyse wurde ein Verfahren zur Aufstellung materialspezifischer Korrelationsbeziehungen zwischen den Messgrößen der Drucksondierung und den bei der KDS gewonnenen bodenphysikalischen Parametern Porenanteil, Dichte und Feinkornanteil entwickelt, wodurch die Effizienz von Drucksondierungen signifikant erhöht werden konnte. Es wird anhand geostatistischer Untersuchungen gezeigt, wie der für flächendeckende Untersuchungen erforderliche Mindestabstand zwischen Sondieransatzpunkten bestimmt werden kann. Möglichkeiten der Darstellung flächendeckender bzw. räumlicher Parameterverteilungen sowie statistische Tests zur Übertragbarkeit der Ergebnisse werden diskutiert. Abschließend wird die praktische Umsetzung der Ergebnisse am Beispiel von Standsicherheitsuntersuchungen für die Uferböschung eines Tagebaurestsees dargestellt.

Abstract:

La gestion d’une entreprise expose l’employeur au risque de discrimination. Dans son acception originelle, la notion de discrimination vise les distinctions reposant sur un critère illicite. La mise en oeuvre effective de la prohibition des discriminations amène le juge à exiger de l’employeur qu’il justifie de façon pertinente ses décisions. L’entreprise est sommée de développer des outils lui permettant d’apprécier de manière objective les compétences de ses salariés. Au-delà de cet objectif initial, la lutte contre les discriminations doit dorénavant faciliter l’intégration d’un public défavorisé. Les notions d’égalité professionnelle, de diversité, d’actions positives et de discriminations indirectes font aujourd’hui parti du vocabulaire des entreprises. Bien qu’elles ne disposent pas toujours de leviers d’action efficaces pour agir, les pouvoirs publics les contraignent à négocier sur certains thèmes pour résorber les inégalités. L’employeur responsable ne peut ignorer cette métamorphose du concept de discrimination. Il doit déterminer les nouvelles frontières de ce risque afin de mettre en oeuvre les dispositifs adéquats pour faire obstacle à sa réalisation
Managing a company incurs a risk of discrimination for the employer. In its original meaning, the notion of discrimination refers to distinctions based on an illegal criterion. To be effective, the prohibition of discriminations brings the judge to require that the employer give pertinent justifications of his/her decisions. The company is compelled to develop means of assessing in an objective manner employees’ professional skills. Beyond this initial objective, the fight against discriminations must now ease the integration of disadvantaged populations. The notions of equal access to employment, diversity, affirmative action and indirect discrimination are now part of companies’ vocabulary. Though companies do not always have effective leverage for action, public authorities force them to negotiate on certain subjects in order to reduce inequalities. A responsible employer cannot ignore this radical change in the concept of discrimination. He/she must now setthe new boundaries to this risk so as to implement adequate means to prevent its materializing

Abstract:

The influence of uranyl and sodium nitrate under aerobic and anaerobic conditions on the microbial community structure of a soil sample from the uranium mining waste pile Haberland in Germany was studied by using the 16S rRNA gene retrieval. The results demonstrate a shifting in the bacterial populations depending on the treatment, whereas the archaeal community was changed independently of the treatment. By using the nitrate reductase gene (narG) as a functional marker, it was additionally demonstrated that some of the bacteria stimulated possess the membrane-bound nitrate reductase. In addition, two Arthrobacter strains were isolated from the studied uranium mining waste pile, which tolerate relatively high concentrations of uranium and heavy metals. These strains are able to precipitate lead as lead sulphide (galena) or lead phosphate mineral phase (pyromorphite) depending on their physiological state and to accumulate uranium intracellularly. The results demonstrate a microbial community in the uranium mining waste pile Haberland, which is able to influence the fate of uranium.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto práce je návrh analýzy tvaru haldy vhodnej pre potreby analyzátora 2LS. 2LS je nástroj pre analýzu C programov založený na automatickom odvodzovaní invariantov s použitím SMT solvera. Navrhované riešenie obsahuje spôsob reprezentácie tvaru programovej haldy pomocou logických formulí nad teóriou bitových vektorov. Tie sú následne využité v SMT solveri pre predikátovú logiku prvého rádu na odvodenie invariantov cyklov a súhrnov jednotlivých funkcií analyzovaného programu. Náš prístup je založený na ukazateľových prístupových cestách, ktoré vyjadrujú dosiahnuteľnosť objektov na halde z ukazateľových premenných. Informácie získané z analýzy môžu byť využité na dokázanie rôznych vlastností programu súvisiacich s prácou s dynamickýcmi dátovými štruktúrami. Riešenie bolo implementované v rámci nástroja 2LS. S jeho použitím došlo k výraznému zlepšeniu schopnosti 2LS analyzovať programy pracujúce s ukazateľmi a dynamickými dátovými štruktúrami. Toto je demonštrované na sade experimentov prevzatých zo známej medzinárodnej súťaže vo verifikácii programov SV-COMP a iných experimentoch.

Abstract:

The thesis explores small triatomic and diatomic alkali halide molecules at state specific resolution at ultracold regime. Ab initio calculations are carried out to further publishable data to attempt a global potential energy surface for both LiF and LiCl, reacting with an approaching Li atom. Potential curve dynamics for both reactions, including well depths, avoided crossings and barrier heights are calculated to SA CASSCF and CCSD(T) level using an A VTZ basis set on all four states. This methodology is repeated as a function of the diatomic bond length. Both reactions are then compared to investigate the impact of substituting the halide. The smaller diatomic alkali halide cations are calculated up to MRCV(Q) level with basis sets ranging from A VQZ-A V6Z. Potential energy curves and dipole moments, (both permanent and transition) are calculated for the four energy states for the alkali halide series and are compared between the four molecules under examination; including LiF+, LiC\+, NaF+ and NaCl+. These curves are then fitted and inputted into LEVEL 8.0 to calculate a wealth of information including rotational and rotational constants, bound vibrational levels, Franck Condon factors and Einstein A coefficients. These findings could potentially aid in identifying the alkali halide products under Resonance Enhanced Multi Photon Ionization (REMPI).

High performance image processing requires not only an efficient underlying algorithm but also an implementation tailored to maximally exploit the available hardware resources. In practice, this requires low-level optimization, platform-specific instructions, and, when available, the use of special purpose hardware such as GPU. Halide is a domain-specific programming language targeted at image processing applications. Its programming model decouples an algorithm from the details of its execution, vastly simplifying development and optimization. We present an OpenGL backend for the Halide compiler, which enables Halide programs to run GPU computation on devices that support the OpenGL API. In particular, this paves the way for GPU computation on mobile devices using OpenGL ES. In doing so, we demonstrate how a general image processing framework can be built upon functionality designed for 3D graphics applications.

Halide is a tool that makes writing efficient code easier to design, maintain, and operate. However, Halide is currently limited to building programs that run on one machine, which bounds both the size of the input and the speed of computation. My work involves adding distributed computation as an option for running Halide programs. Enabling distributed computation would allow Halide to be run at a much larger scale and solve larger problems like weather simulation and 3D rendering. This project has dealt with how Halide can analyze what data programs will need to share and how they can efficiently share it. Using my work, a programmer can easily divide their input into several small chunks and start an instance of their program to solve each chunk with synchronization and data sharing handled through Halide.

Abstract:

Copper Halide lasers are discussed and the results of experiments reported. It is found that the presence of small quantities of an electron attaching gas (such as bromine) cause discharge instability. Specially designed electrodes which remove excess bromine cure this problem and yield a stable discharge. A 4W copper bromide laser is operated, sealed-off, for 100 hours. This laser has an apertured discharge tube with side-arm reservoirs to control copper bromide vapour pressure, a feature essential to stable operation. The addition of small amounts of hydrogen changes the beam from an annular to a gaussian-like profile. The estimated lifetime of this laser tube is 1,000 hours. Exploiting the theory of metallic walls for discharge confinement, it is found that metal segments shorter than about 1m can support a stable discharge at high pulse repetition rates (5 - 20kHz). On the basis of this, a novel copper halide laser containing cylindrical copper segments is demonstrated. Neon and halogen gases flow through the tube. The reaction between the halogen and the copper segment walls forms copper halide in-situ. Hydrogen bromide, bromine and chlorine have been used. Hydrogen bromide proves to be the most suitable. A one metre long laser tube of this design produces 40W. Pulsed power supplies for metal vapour lasers are discussed. The conventional form of the capacitor-transfer circuit has the peaking capacitor value around one half of the storage capacitor value. It is found that equal capacitor values produce the best results for the gold vapour laser system we describe. The reliability of a gold vapour laser is improved by replacing the hollow anode thyratron (which has a high latch rate) with a solid anode thyratron. The replacement thyratron, in combination with a saturating charging choke, significantly reduces the latch rate. The laser is used for studies of photodynamic therapy of cancer in a local hospital.

HLSC (Haldex Limited Slip Coupling) är en koppling för fyrhjulsdrift i personbilar, och för-finas ständigt för att ge en bättre funktion och körupplevelse. Kopplingen använder ett hyd-raultryck för att skapa momentöverföring mellan fram- och bakaxel, och därför är en förståel-se för vad som påverkar detta tryck viktigt för utvecklingen. Skapandet av en simuleringsmo-dell av hela hydrauliken i kopplingen är ett sätt att förbättra denna förståelse.

I detta arbete har HOPSAN använts för att simulera hydrauliken i HLSC och även den meka-nik som påverkar hydrauliken. Fokus i arbetet har lagts på noggrannhet, numerisk stabilitet och prestanda. En manual för användning av modellen har skapats i HTML-format.

Simuleringarna har resulterat i en bra förståelse för vad som påverkar trycket i kopplingen, och utseendet på tryckkurvorna kan främst härröras till öppning av backventiler, töjning av kopplingshuset och rörelser hos kolvringarna. Reglerventilen är i och med sin stora öppnings-areagradient känslig för störningar, och strömningskrafter får stor inverkan på ventilläget. Al-ternativa kamprofiler för varvtalsskillnadspumpen har provats i simulering, och dessa har vi-sat sig ge mindre men snabbare tryckvariationer. Tröghet i ackumulatorn kan öka tryckvaria-tionerna vid höga varvtalsskillnader.

Abstract:

Hybrid perovskites are a new class of semiconductor which have proven to be an ideal material for making thin film solar cells. They have the advantages of flexibility, low cost, and easy processing, whilst achieving efficiencies competitive with monocrystalline silicon. Many of the properties which make them ideal for solar cells are also applicable to light emitting devices, and there is now increasing interest in their application for light emitting diodes (LEDs) and lasers. This thesis aims to use a range of novel spectroscopy techniques to investigate the origin of these favourable properties, and to exploit these properties to produce high performance distributed feedback lasers. A detailed understanding of the origins of the excellent properties of hybrid perovskites is of crucial importance in the search for new variations with improved performance or lowered toxicity. This thesis uses Kelvin probe, air photoemission, and resonant ultrasound spectroscopy to probe deeply into the underlying physics of hybrid perovskite single crystals and devices. Using these techniques, we are able to produce detailed maps of the energy levels in a common perovskite solar cell, and we also gain strong insight into the underlying strains and instabilities in the perovskite structure that give rise to their elastic properties. The strong light emission of hybrid perovskites is then exploited to produce high quality distributed feedback lasers emitting in the green and infrared part of the spectrum. These lasers are observed to have superior stability, good thresholds, and many interesting beam parameters owing to their high refractive index. We explore a wide range of processing methods in order to achieve the lowest lasing threshold and the best stability. Finally, we investigate the properties of low dimensional perovskites and investigate their potential in optoelectronic applications.

Abstract:

Exposure of a range of dilute solutions of halogenobenzenes in fluoro-trichloromethane to 60Co y-rays at 77 K gave the corresponding cations characterised by their ESR spectra. The approximate spin-densities on the halogens were greater than predicted by comparison with neutral x-bromo radicals and increased from ca, 8% for PhF+ to 23% for PhCl+, 30% for PhBr+ and 46% for PhI+ In accord with the fall in the ionization potential for this series of halogen. For PhBr+, replacement of para hydrogen by Br, OH and SH gave a steady fall in spin-density on Br reflecting increasing n delocallsation onto the para substituent. Evidence for dimer cation formation in concentrated solutions is presented. The major species obtained from benzyl chloride suggested a preferred conformation with the chlorine close to, but not in, the plane of the benzene ring, with a significant barrier for the in-plane site, in contrast with benzyl bromide with strong hyperfine coupling to bromine [Chapters 3, 4 and 9]. Exposure of dilute solutions of Me2C(Br)C(Br)Me2 In CD3OD and MeTHF to 60Co y-rays at 77 K gave the radical Me2CC(Br)Me2. From changes in the e.s.r. spectrum of this radical, it is deduced that the stable structure is asymmetric, but that the rate of migration of bromine between the two equivalent sites becomes fast on the e.s.r. time-scale at ca. 100-1 [Chapter 6]. Evidence is given for the 1,2-intramolecular proton shift in the interconversion of isobutyl to tert-butyl radicals. The parent material was dissolved in a variety of matrices and exposed to 60Co y-rays at 77 K. The reaction was observed using an in-cavity Proportional, Integral and Differential (PID) temperature control system [Chapter 5]. A single crystal of ethyl iodide was grown and irradiated at 77 K with a a 60Co y-ray source. The spectra were orientation dependent but it was not possible to determine the principal g-values and the elements of the hyperfine tensor [Chapter 7]. 1-Bromo adamantane was dissolved in a variety of deuterated matrices and exposed to 60Co y-rays at 77 K. No firm conclusions can be drawn regarding the single proton coupling of ca. 65 G to the bromine. Exposure of dilute solutions of m-dinitrobenzene or s-trinitrobenzene in methyltetrahydrofuran to 60Co y-rays at 77 K gave two species at 77 K. One, favoured at low doses, had features characteristic of mono-anions with the unpaired electron localized on one nitro-group. At high 7-ray doses a second species with triplet state characteristics grew at the expense of the first. The average separation between the two unpaired electrons was estimated to be 5-6 A.

Reactions of Ph2SNH 1 with copper(II) halides in a 2:1 ratio is fast and efficiently generates species of the type trans-Cu(Ph2SNH)X2. A significant aspect of their coordination geometry comes with the observation that two distinct isomers (or allogons) of the chloro complex can be generated and we believe this is the first example of square-planar/pseudo-tetrahedral isomerism in a neutral copper(II) complex. True polymorphism is displayed by these allogons as they can be used to generate each other by crystallisation from the appropriate solvent mixtures. No such isomerism is exhibited by the bromo analogue.

Lilian Westcott Hale (1880-1963) and her daughter Nancy Hale (1908-1988) built successful careers during a period of transition in America, as Victorian mores were replaced by new modern freedoms. Greater independence for women had evolved during the preceding century, before the influential cultural factors which occurred during the early twentieth century like urbanization and world war. This interdisciplinary analysis of Lilian Hale‘s artwork and Nancy Hale‘s writings demonstrates the imprint of the surrounding world on their work. Lilian Hale‘s art is influenced by her Victorian childhood, and Nancy Hale‘s fiction reveals many conflicts of the modern era. The study of these two women is enhanced by the wealth of primary documentation connecting their ideas and their lives to their artistic works. Both of the women ranked among the most respected in their fields during their lifetimes. Their works resonate with elements of their eras, demonstrating what it was to be a woman during the first half of the twentieth century. Lilian Westcott Hale and Nancy Hale both engage the gender constructs of their periods through their work. Lilian Westcott Hale‘s art is divided here into three distinct genres: her still lifes and landscapes express the confining environment the Victorian woman occupied; her idealized women reflect the period‘s taste for female perfection and beauty; her portraits and figure studies point to Hale‘s own distinction between males and females through their clothing and their poses. Unlike Lilian Westcott Hale, Nancy Hale demonstrates woman‘s new freedoms in an open manner, a result of the break with Victorianism. Hale‘s use of a literary medium allows her direct examination of the turmoil caused by the modern breakdown of Victorian structures. Lilian Westcott Hale refrains from harsh judgment of her daughter‘s world, while Nancy Hale‘s modern challenge of the previous era‘s standards leads her into troubling relationships and difficulties balancing her career with her personal life. Their work reveals the cultural ideologies of their respective eras and particularly the changes taking place for women.

O objetivo do presente trabalho é estudar a correlação entre as taxas de produção gasosa e as magnitudes heliocêntricas do cometa C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp), tanto na fase pré-periélica como na fase pós-periélica. As evoluções da magnitude e das taxas de produção gasosa de H2O (água), OH (radical hidroxila) e CO (monóxido de carbono), ao longo da aproximação e do afastamento do cometa em relação ao Sol, são analisadas. Para essa análise, foram utilizadas 11.734 estimativas de magnitudes visuais, extraídas do ICQ (International Comet Quarterly) e 88 observações do monóxido de carbono (Biver, comunicação particular (2007); Disanti et al. 2001; Jewitt et al. 1996), cobrindo o intervalo de distâncias heliocêntricas de rh = 7,464 UA (na fase pré-periélica) até rh = 14,070 UA (na fase pós-periélica). É mostrado que a atividade do Hale-Bopp (temperatura média superficial ~ 110 K), além de 6,3 UA do Sol é controlada pela emissão do CO (temperatura de sublimação ~ 24 K), antes que pela emissão da H2O (temperatura de sublimação ~ 152 K). Esse resultado é consistente com as observações em ondas milimétricas de Biver et al. 1996 e Jewitt et al. 1996, realizadas em 6,5 UA.
The purpose of the present work is to study the correlation between the gas production rates and heliocentric magnitudes of comet C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp), in the pre-perihelion phase as well as in the post-perihelion phase. The evolutions of magnitudes and gas production rates of H2O (water), OH (hydroxil radical) and CO (carbon monoxide), along the approach to and leave of the comet from the Sun, are analyzed. For this analysis, we used 11,734 visual magnitude estimates, extracted from ICQ (International Comet Quarterly) and 88 observations of carbon monoxide (Biver, private communication (2007); DiSanti et al. (2001); Jewitt et al. (1996)), covering the range of heliocentric distances from rh = 7.464 AU (in the pre-perihelion phase) to rh = 14.070 AU (in the post-perihelion phase). It is shown that the activity of Hale-Bopp (average surface temperature ~ 110 K) beyond 6.3 AU from the Sun is controlled by CO emission (sublimation temperature ~ 24 K) rather than by H2O (sublimation temperature ~ 152 K). This result is consistent with millimeter-wave observations of Biver et al. (1996) and Jewitt et al. (1996), made at 6.5 AU.

I Sverige har vi skolplikt, trots detta är det 2000 barn och ungdomar som har sammanhängande ogiltig frånvaro. Dessa elever kallas för hemmasittare. Syftet med vår studie är att undersöka om och hur samverkan i skola, socialtjänst och BUP ser ut kring arbetet med hemmasittare samt hur de yrkesverksamma beskriver problemet hemmasittare. Vi har använt oss av en kvalitativ intervju-studie. Informanterna i studien bestod av lärare, skolkurator, rektor, social-sekreterare, kuratorer från BUP samt ett samverkansteam. För att få en djupare förståelse för fenomenet hemmasittare samt samverkan kring dessa elever analyserades empirin med hjälp av Danermarks samverkansteori och Paynes systemteori. Studien visar att samverkan finns, dock i varierande grad och kvalité. Resultatet visar även att om samverkan ska fungera krävs det tydliga ramar för hur den ska se ut och slutligen visar studien att vem man möter i skola, socialtjänst och BUP påverkar hur samverkan ser ut.
In Sweden we have compulsory school attendance, still there are 2000 children and young adolescents who have coherent absence. The aim of our study is to research if and how the collaboration between school, social services and health care professional works and how the professionals describe the problem with school refusal behaviour. We have used qualitative semi structured interviews as our method and interviewed teachers, school counsellor, principal, counsellors within health care and an collaboration team. To analyse our material we used Danermarks collaboration theory and Paynes system theory. Our study shows that collaboration exist although in varying degrees and quality. The study also shows that for collaboration to be successful there need to be a clear framework on how the collaboration should take place and look like, finally the study shows that who you meet in school, social service and health care influence how the collaboration works.Keywords: Collaboration, school, school attendance, school refusal behaviour, social service, youth health care.
