Abstract:
The members of the Hamburg Circle: W. Stapel (the leading figure), H. Bogner, A.E. Günther, G. Günther, are usually attributed to the ‘young conservative’ trend of the conservative revolution in the Weimar Republic. The main platform of their expression was the Deutsches Volkstum, a monthly published in Hamburg between 1898 and 1938. The activists of the circle opposed the realities of the Weimar Republic, negating the foundations of a democratic and liberal society as it did not express the ‘national will’ of Germans. Their ideal was not exactly in the revival of monarchy but they proposed a

In this article we study one of the aspects of the Hanseatic counting-house’s life in Bergen during the 16th – 17th centuries. Videlicet, we examine the rituals associated with the admission of merchants into the circle of its residents, the so-called “Bergen games.” This topic was presented in the Western European historiography of late 19th – the first half of the 20th centuries, however, it is an issue of low-demand among modern historians. The prevailing understanding of the "Bergen games" was formed based on manuscript materials from the Hamburg City Library, although it is now possible t

The use of synchrotron radiation (SR) for single-crystal diffraction measurements requires special features of both the instrumentation and the measuring procedure. This paper describes a new algorithm for data collection developed for synchrotron radiation. It has been used successfully at the five-circle diffractometer at HASYLAB (DESY, Hamburg). The main features are: precise location of the reflection position, determination of the measuring parameters by pre-scanning, subsequent fine scanning, and real-time monitoring of several parameters of the beam conditions for data reduction. As a test example, diffraction data have been collected in 10 h on a hydrogen-bonded network system with 15 unique atoms, and the electron density was modelled with the multipole formalism in an X–N procedure using matching-temperature neutron diffraction data collected at Institut Laue Langevin, Gr

When the closure of his institute was imminent as part of his statutory retirement in 1935, Uexküll ingratiated himself with the National Socialists in a letter to the Reich Minister for Science, Education, and Culture, which serves as a starting p
