Abstract:
Lighter than air (LTA) vehicles have many advantageous capabilities over other aircraft, including low power consumption, high payload capacity, and long endurance. However, they exhibit manoeuvrability and control reliability challenges, and these limitations are particularly significant for smaller unmanned LTA. In this thesis, a 4 m length autonomous airship with a sliding gondola is presented. A rigid keel, mounted to the helium envelope, follows the helium envelope profile from the midsection to the nose of the vehicle. Moving the gondola along the keel produces upwards of 90-degree changes in pitch angle, thereby improving manoeuvrability and allowing for rapid changes in altitude. The longitudinal multi-body equations of motion were developed for this prototype using the Boltzmann–Hamel method. An adaptive PID controller was then designed to control the pitch inclination using the gondola’s position. This control system is capable of self-tuning the controller gains in real time by minimizing a pre-defined sliding condition. Experimental flight tests were carried out to evaluate the controller’s performance on the prototype.

A competitividade, sobretudo em mercados internacionais do sector dos vinhos, intensificou-se nos últimos anos, como consequência da queda de barreiras alfandegárias (no âmbito da Organização Mundial do Comercio - OMC) e integração na União Europeia (no âmbito da Organização Comum de Mercado do Vinho - OCMV). Neste contexto, torna-se importante abordar a competitividade das empresas vitivinícolas, alicerçada nas suas estruturas organizacionais e opções estratégicas. Tendo em atenção o exposto, elegem-se, assim, como objetivos deste trabalho:Estudar a competitividade empresarial através da análise das adaptações (organizacionais e estratégicas) que se estão efetuar nas cooperativas e nas empresas privadas vitivinícolas; 0 Comparar as duas realidades empresariais, identificando as suas diferenças e as suas semelhanças principais; Propor Iinhas renovadas de Acão estratégica; o Perspectivar as suas possibilidades de sucesso no novo contexto competitivo. Para atingir os objetivos referidos, realizou-se, por um lado, uma revisão bibliográfica centrada no tema da gestão estratégica, na qual são exploradas as perspectivas de formação e formulação estratégica dos autores de referência deste trabalho: Michael Porter, Gary Hamei, C. Prahalad e Henry Mintzberg, e, por outro lado, efetua-se um estudo empírico, com recolha de informação por questionário, a diversas empresas cooperativas e privadas do sector no Alentejo. A metodologia utilizada neste trabalho de investigação é centrada no método de Estudo de Caso Múltiplo e Comparativo, aplicado a uma amostra selecionada de 24 empresas produtoras de Vinhos do Alentejo (4 empresas cooperativas e 20 empresas privadas). Para além de ser utilizada alguma estatística descritiva, o carácter, essencialmente, qualitativo da informação permite o tratamento dos dados recolhidos sob a forma de quadros comparativos dos indicadores fundamentais de cada variável analisada (nomeadamente, características gerais, organizacionais, técnico-produtivas, comerciais, financeiras e estratégicas). A caracterização da dinâmica da envolvente competitiva tem subjacente uma abordagem de âmbito igualmente qualitativo e consiste na análise estrutural das cinco forças competitivas de Porter e na análise SWOT. Os resultados sugerem que cooperativas e privados apresentam algumas diferenças ao nível da organização estrutural e algumas semelhanças ao nível das ações estratégias anteriores, presentes e futuras. ***/Abstract - The competitiveness, over all in international markets of the cluster of the wines, was intensified in the last years, especially by the fall of customs barriers (in the scope of the World Trade Organization - l/VTO) and integration in the European Union (in the scope of the World Trade Organization of Market Wines). In this context, one becomes important to approach the competitiveness of wines companies, supported on its organizational structures and strategical options. Having in attention the displayed one, they are chosen, thus, as aims of this work: o Study the enterprise competitiveness through the analysis of the adaptations (organizational and strategical) that they are to effect in the cooperatives and the wines private companies; ø Compare the two enterprise realities, identifying to its differences and its main similarities; o Purpose renewed lines of strategical share; ø Predict its possibilities of success in the new competitive context. To reach the related aims, it was become fulfilled, on the other hand, a bibliographical revision throw the strategical management, in which is explored the perspectives of formation and strategical formularization of the authors of reference of this work: Michael Porter, Gaiy Hamel, C. Prahalad and Henry Mintzberg, and, on the other hand, an empirical study, with retraction of information for questionnaire, the cooperative and private companies of the cluster in Alentejo. The methodology used in this work of inquiry is centred in the Method of Study of Multiple and Comparative Case, applied to a selected sample of 24 producing companies of Wines of Alentejo (4 cooperative companies and 20 private companies). The information was, essentially, qualitative which allows the treatment of the data collected under the form of comparative boards of the basic pointers of each analyzed variable (general, organizational, technician- productive, commercial, financial and strategical characteristics). The characterization of the involving dynamics of the competitive one has underlying a boarding of equally qualitative scope and consists of the structural analysis of the five competitive forces of Porter and of analysis SWOT. The results suggest differences between cooperative and private companies in the organizational system, but some similar points in the strategic actions in the past, present and future.

Abstract:
Cette thèse analyse le processus d'émergence et de construction de politiques d'accès aux droits sociaux dans trois pays, la France, les Pays-Bas et le Royaume-Uni. Il s'agit de répondre à la question suivante : pourquoi la thématique de l'accès aux droits sociaux a-t-elle gagné en importance et a été l'objet de politiques publiques dans les trois dernières décennies ? Ce travail s'inscrit dans les débats sur les évolutions des Etats-providence et sur les transformations des administrations publiques. Il utilise des éléments théoriques liés au néo-institutionnalisme historique, aux approches cognitives des politiques publiques, et à l'instrumentation de l'action publique. La première conclusion de cette thèse est que la formation de consensus ambigus sur le sens des réformes explique en premier lieu la construction de politiques d'accès aux droits sociaux. Sous un référentiel monétariste global, cette thématique allait permettre de concilier entre accessibilité des prestations sociales et contrôle des dépenses. La seconde conclusion de cette analyse est que pour comprendre les évolutions des Etats-providence, il ne faut pas seulement s'intéresser aux caractéristiques des systèmes de protection sociale, aux intérêts des acteurs et aux idées qu'ils défendent, mais également aux spécificités des administrations publiques qui sont chargées de mettre en œuvre ces politiques, cette dimension étant trop souvent oubliée. L'étude comparative de l'émergence dans les trois pays nous conduit finalement à identifier différents modèles d'accès aux droits sociaux : le modèle responsable (cas britannique), le modèle efficace (Pays-Bas) et le modèle égalitaire (France).

Abstract:
From the beginning of the study of spaces in functional analysis, bases have been an indispensable tool for operating with vectors and functions over a concrete space. Bases can be organized by types, depending on their properties. This thesis is intended to give an overview of some bases and their relations. We study Hamel basis, Schauder basis and Orthonormal basis; we give some properties and compare them in different spaces, explaining the results. For example, an infinite dimensional Hilbert space will never have a basis which is a Schauder basis and a Hamel basis at the same time, but if this space is separable it has an orthonormal basis, which is also a Schauder basis. The project deals mainly with Banach spaces, but we also talk about the case when the space is a pre Hilbert space.

Dans le contexte de l'analyse des stratégies et des performances des entreprises, les compétences fondamentales (core competencies) sont apparues au début des années 1990, dans les ouvrages de Prahalad et Hamel, comme une nouvelle manière d'appréhender la compétitivité des entreprises. Le premier objectif de cette thèse a été d'apporter une définition synthétique et opérationnelle des compétences fondamentales. Cette définition est la suivante. Les compétences fondamentales sont un ensemble de savoirs et de technologies qui permet à l'entreprise d'acquérir un avantage concurrentiel dans une variété de produits et de services. Par nature, les compétences fondamentales : - permettent l'accès à un grand nombre de marchés, a priori disparates, - permettent d'améliorer la valeur du produit final pour les clients, - sont difficiles à imiter ou à se procurer par les concurrents, - sont transversales par rapport aux activités de l'entreprise. Le deuxième objectif de cette thèse a été de s'interroger sur la pertinence de l'utilisation des compétences fondamentales comme outil de gestion, plus particulièrement dans le cadre de l'industrie pharmaceutique. Des entretiens réalisés avec des dirigeants de laboratoires pharmaceutiques ont permis d'identifier les compétences fondamentales perçues de ces entreprises. La confrontation entre ces compétences fondamentales perçues et les critères d'identification retenus dans la définition a mis en lumière des difficultés d'appréhension du concept, non réductibles au contexte particulier de l'industrie pharmaceutique. Une synthèse relative à l'applicabilité des compétences fondamentales comme un outil de gestion est alors proposée
In the context of the analysis of firms' strategies and performances, core competencies appeared in the early 1990s, in C. K. Prahalad and G. Hamel's publications, as a new way of approaching competitiveness. The first objective of this thesis is to propose a synthetic and operational definition of core competencies. This definition is as follows: core competencies are a combination of knowledge and technologies that enables the company to get a competitive advantage in a whole range of products and services. Core competencies: - enable accessing a large number of markets, unnecessarily related, - enable improving the value of the product for the end-customer, - are difficult to imitate or to acquire for competitors, - are transverse regarding the company's activities. The second objective is to discuss the appropriateness of using core competencies as a management tool, especially in the pharmaceutical industry. Interviews with managers of pharmaceutical companies lead to the identification of the perceived core competencies of these companies. The confrontation of these perceived core competencies and the identification criteria of the definition showed difficulties in understanding the operational and managerial implications of the concept. A synthesis on the applicability of core competencies as a management tool is then given

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The valveless micropump holds great potential for the biomedical community in applications such as drug delivery systems, blood glucose monitoring and many others. It is also a critical component in many a lab-on-a-chip device, which in turn promises to improve our treatment and diagnosis capabilities for diseases such as diabetes, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS. The valveless micropump has attracted attention from researchers on the grounds of its simple design, easy manufacturability and sensitive fluid handling characteristics, which are all important in biomedical applications. The pump consists of a pump chamber with a diffuser and nozzle on opposing sides of the pump chamber. The flow into the diffuser and nozzle is induced by an oscillating piezoelectric disc located on top of the pump chamber. The nozzle and diffuser rectify the flow in one direction, due to different pressure loss coefficients. The design process however is complex. In this study, we investigate the characteristics of a diffuser / nozzle based micropump using detailed computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analyses. Significant parameters are derived using the Buckingham-Pi theorem. In part based on this, the respective shapes of the diffuser and of the nozzle of the micropump are selected for numerical investigation. Hence the influence of the selected parameters on the flow rate of the micropump is studied using three-dimensional transient CFD analyses. Velocity profiles from the CFD simulations are also compared to the Jeffery-Hamel solution for flow in a wedge shaped channel. Significant similarities exist between the data and the predicted Jeffery-Hamel velocity profiles near the exit of the diffuser. Three different diffuser geometries were simulated at three frequencies. The flow rate and direction of flow are shown to be highly sensitive to inlet and outlet diffuser shapes, with the absolute flow rate varying by as much as 200% for the geometrical perturbations studied. Entrance losses at both the diffuser inlet and nozzle inlet appear to dominate the flow resistance at extremely laminar flow conditions with the average Reynolds number of Reave ≈ 500.

Belangrike parameters word afgelei deur gebruik te maak van die Buckingham-Pi teorema. Gedeeltelik gebaseer hierop word die onderskeidelike vorms van die diffusor en die mondstuk van die mikropomp geselekteer vir numeriese ondersoek. Gevlolglik word die invloed van die geselekteerde parameters op die vloei tempo van diemikropomp ondersoek deur gebruik temaak van drie-dimensionele tyd afhanklike numeriese vloei-dinamiese analises. Snelheids profiele van hierdie simulasiesword vergelykmet die Jeffrey-Hamel oplossing vir die vloei in ’n wigvormige kanaal. Daar is oorwegende ooreenkomstighede tussen hierdie data en die voorspelde Jeffrey-Hamel snelheids profiele veral by die uitgang van die diffusor. Drie verskillende diffusor vorms is by drie frekwensies gesimuleer. Daar is bewys dat die vloei tempo en vloeirigting baie sensitief is vir inlaat- en uitlaat diffusor vorms en dat die absolute vloei tempo kan varieermet soveel as 200%vir die geometriese versteuringswat ondersoek is. Inlaat verliese by beide die diffusor inlaat en die mondstuk inlaat, blyk om die vloei weerstand te domineer waar die vloei uiters laminêr ismet ’n gemiddelde Reynolds getal van Regem ≈ 500

Abstract:
Hurricane Hazel struck North America on 15-16 October 1954, leaving a pattern of heavy rainfall and flooding in its wake. A complete analysis of the synoptic-scale conditions associated with the transformation of Hazel from its tropical phase into an extratropical cyclone was first undertaken to discern the dynamic and thermodynamic elements crucial to the intensification of this storm.
An analogue search was then conducted for Hazel using linear correlations of anomaly sea level pressure and 1000-500 hPa thickness. Three cases were found in 1985, 1995 and 1999. A comparison of these analogues to Hazel yielded the conclusion that Hazel is a unique event in recent meteorological history, as none of the analogues produces the extreme precipitation values in Hazel. The lack of significant hurricane circulations in all of the analogues is the important difference, as Hazel provides important moisture and latent heating that are absent in the analogues.
Finally a mesoscale modeling study was carried out to test the sensitivity of Hazel to improved surface vortex structure and increased horizontal resolution. Specification of the vortex led to a dramatic improvement in the simulation results, as precipitation and track closely mimicked the observed values. Enhancing the horizontal resolution to 12 km did not improve upon the 36 km specified vortex simulation. The movement of the storm slowed considerably as the development of an upper tropospheric cutoff circulation was diminished in the 12 km run. The parameterizations governing the interaction between the diabatic outflow from Hazel and dynamics of the midlatitude trough are poorly modeled in this situation, and lead to the severe time lag in the path of Hazel.

The extent and quality of forested habitats have changed across Europe and as a result many forest species have suffered declines and range contractions. European legislation has been introduced to conserve those species that have been negatively impacted by widespread land-use changes. In order to assess the needs of declining species and the efficacy of these protective measures, the effects of habitat type, configuration and management on individuals and populations needs to be understood. In this thesis, I have investigated patterns and drivers of variation in the status of populations of hazel dormouse Muscardinus avellanarius in the United Kingdom. I have assessed the effects of variation in habitat on hazel dormice at multiple spatial scales, and related this to woodland management.

The following text concerns itself with the comprehensive research and design of costumes for The Beggar's Opera by Václav Havel. The author of this thesis presents her historical and theoretical research, the development of her creative concept and final designs. The play was written in the 1970s, when Havel was reacting critically to the current situation in his home country. To make this social criticism up to date, the author imagined doing a production of this play at a cafe in a small town, and sourcing inspiration for the designs of the individual character types from observing modern small town mentality. The text is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part concerns itself with the history of the play, studies past productions, and examines Havel's approach to theatre. In the practical part we can follow the development of the design concept, including analyses of the individual characters and the sources of inspiration used. Descriptions of the final designs are supported by images.

Parallel shared-memory machines with hundreds or thousands of processor-memory nodes have been built; in the future we will see machines with millions or even billions of nodes. Associated with such large systems is a new set of design challenges. Many problems must be addressed by an architecture in order for it to be successful; of these, we focus on three in particular. First, a scalable memory system is required. Second, the network messaging protocol must be fault-tolerant. Third, the overheads of thread creation, thread management and synchronization must be extremely low. This thesis presents the complete system design for Hamal, a shared-memory architecture which addresses these concerns and is directly scalable to one million nodes. Virtual memory and distributed objects are implemented in a manner that requires neither inter-node synchronization nor the storage of globally coherent translations at each node. We develop a lightweight fault-tolerant messaging protocol that guarantees message delivery and idempotence across a discarding network. A number of hardware mechanisms provide efficient support for massive multithreading and fine-grained synchronization.
(cont.) Experiments are conducted in simulation, using a trace-driven network simulator to investigate the messaging protocol and a cycle-accurate simulator to evaluate the Hamal architecture. We determine implementation parameters for the messaging protocol which optimize performance. A discarding network is easier to design and can be clocked at a higher rate, and we find that with this protocol its performance can approach that of a non-discarding network. Our simulations of Hamal demonstrate the effectiveness of its thread management and synchronization primitives. In particular, we find register-based synchronization to be an extremely efficient mechanism which can be used to implement a software barrier with a latency of only 523 cycles on a 512 node machine.

The potential uses of building information modelling (BIM) can drastically alter the occupational health and safety (OHS) practices in the construction industry. However, there is no established framework to employ BIM for construction OHS management. A mixed methods research design was adopted to address this research gap. Case study analysis, semi-structured interviews, and a questionnaire survey were conducted to develop the innovation adoption model of this research. The most significant contributions of this research are the identification of the critical areas in construction accidents, the effectiveness of BIM applications in these areas, and success factors for the adoption of BIM.

Dies ist für alle Leser interessant, die damit beginnen, sich mit der integrierten Verkehrsplanung zu beschäftigen, denn diese Arbeit stellt das theoretische, rechnerische und praktische Vorgehen formal vor. Die Berechnungen wurden mit dem Programm „Excel 2013“ realisiert. Zudem ist der Arbeit ein USB-Stick beigelegt, aus dem Sie die formalen Rechnungen aus der Bachelorarbeit besser nachvollziehen können, da auf dem USB-Stick alle Rechnungen hinterlegt sind, die dem Verfahren zugrunde liegen. Zusätzlich enthält der USB-Stick einige Grafiken, welche die Verteilung der Verkehrsmittel in der Stadt Brandenburg an der Havel darstellen.
