Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to examine the determinants of Chinese consumers’ purchase intention for luxury brands (i.e. handbag) by testing a theoretical model. Quantitative method was adopted to confirm each hypothesis. A random sample of 231 Chinese consumers who have purchased luxury handbags was invited to complete survey form. The findings of this study revealed that brand awareness, brand credibility and brand self-congruity have a direct impact on Chinese consumers’ purchase intention for luxury handbags. The results of this study are beneficial not only to marketing scholars for understanding a theoretical model on the Chinese consumers’ purchase behaviour in luxury handbags but also to luxury brand (i.e. handbag) retailers for offering suggestions which help them develop marketing strategies to achieve more revenues.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of a multidisciplinary study of a unique artifact from burial 8 of the Krasnogorskiy ancient Mari burial ground of the X century – a leather purse/handbag with a metal plate on the cover. Handbags of this type are known in the Carpathian Basin, Eastern European region and even found on some Scandinavian burial grounds. Not only the metal plate has been preserved, but also large fragments of organic materials forming the details of the handbag, which allows us to restore the full appearance of the item. A comprehensive study of the handbag made it possible to make a complete reconstruction. At present, this is the only reconstruction of purses /handbags of the sabretache type from medieval burial grounds, made on the basis of analyses of organic and metal parts of the handbag obtained by specialists of various fields. The conservation of the object was carried out by applying the comprehensive study. A specialized study of the materials used in the manufacturing of the handbag allows to reveal a certain similarity with Hungarian handbags, but does not give reason to consider the handbag from the Krasnogorskiy burial ground as a complete copy of them. This article is the first experience of a comprehensive study of items of this type at the international level (Mari Research Institute of Language, Literature and History named after V.M. Vasilyev, Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov, Pázmány Péter Catholic University). The results of the study are preliminary.

Abstract:
Handbags symbolize women’s emancipation and can evoke powerful memories of people and events. However, they are primarily made of leather, which is not aligned with consumers’ growing environmental concerns. As the next generation of women’s handbags should reflect women’s values and advancements in material science (The Women’s Museum of California, 2017), exploring ways to personalize next-gen materials could lead to greater consumer acceptance. Guided by the hypothesis that a biofabricated handbag can be personalized with genetic material to symbolize its user’s environmental concerns and display advancements in material design, this study started with secondary research and then progressed to material testing and prototyping as the main method of inquiry for investigation. The result is a handbag composed of bacterial cellulose and human hair that represents a potential use of user genetic material to personalize biofabricated products that carry psychological significance.

Abstract:
Abstract The integration and development of fashion products and intangible cultural heritage have gradually become the highlight of product design. Following thousands of years of evolution, bamboo weaving patterns offer a rich resource library for use by designers. However, the designers cannot predict which bamboo weaving pattern can be adopted into women’s handbags to satisfy consumers’ aesthetics. Therefore, taking the form design of women’s handbags as an example, this study develops an artificial intelligence-based program through which consumers can codesign with designers to effectively match the bamboo weaving pattern with the design style of women’s handbags. First, based on the coding, selection, and mutation processes of interactive genetic algorithms, consumer preferences, and perception evaluations are effectively incorporated into product design. This ensures that the evolved product solutions meet consumer preferences. Second, considering evaluator fatigue in human–computer interaction evaluation, the decision tree algorithm is used as a proxy for evaluation. Finally, the developed interactive system supports mass-generated bamboo-woven bags of different styles, allowing prediction of consumers’ preferences for the design of women’s handbags. Furthermore, the system can assist designers and bamboo craftsmen in designing other bamboo or wooden products.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates whether luxury handbags in secondary markets make for viable invesments. Reasoning for the investment potential of designer handbags is primarily based on the excessive retail price increases of luxury goods. Prices of handbags were collected from FashionPhile, a source that provides product authentication. The analysis attempts to understand characteristics of the FashionPhile market and how prices changed from April 28, 2006 to March 2, 2011. This thesis identifies which brands and models of handbags had the highest returns and which brands have the highest resale potential. Insight into when the highest and lowest market prices for handbags occurred for each brand is also included.

This project looks at the union between the inspiration and the application from our indigenous cultures and the field work that took place at The Keiskamma Organisation with correlation of these to 'Slow Design'. The inspirations drawn from aspects of these sources are to be implemented in a practical form. 'Slow Design' outlines how and why it is vital today to refer to our indigenous cultures in terms of forms and processes in their material culture, as well as their way of life. By doing so today's society and environment can improve. This research has drawn upon all these aspects to inspire the establishment of a range of contemporary and eco- friendly handbags. This handbag range is inspired by the Xhosa cultures process of designing from nature and ones surroundings and producing by hand through a sustainable manner like 'slow design' encourages.

Abstract:
Drawing from existing literature on price endings and luxury pricing, this thesis highlights the paradox of adopting odd prices (i.e., prices just below a round number) in a luxury context, where, intuitively, prices should mostly be round numbers. Price endings practices are investigated in the product category of luxury women handbags. In a first empirical analysis, different types of price endings and the determinants of their use by pricing managers are identified. In a second part, the results of two experiments measure customers’ perceptions of different facets of luxury and overall perceived luxury itself. In the last part, a conjoint analysis reveals customers’ preferences for odd price endings. The findings of this thesis challenge previous research on price endings practices, in that they show that well-know low-price, low-quality, low-prestige connotations typical of odd prices in a non-luxury context, might not subsist in a luxury environment, at least for the handbag product category and for an intermediate level of luxury

Abstract:
This creative project resulted in five metal handbags, each based on a specific period from art history: Egyptian, Classical, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Memphis. These styles range from early human history to contemporary times and possess very explicit and identifiable motifs. They maintain links to each other and impact design to this day.The project culminates in an exhibit. A brief description of the relevant era is printed on attached tags to generate mini art history lessons. People who see or use the handbags will gain exposure to art history they may not otherwise seek out, potentially piquing their curiosity. The aim is to sell all five handbags so they may demonstrate that art history is a vital part of human history because it continues to inform and inspire a spectrum of endeavors from advertising and fashion to engineering and design.

Abstract:
The central focus for this creative project was to explore the possibilities of found object and recycled art with emphasis on function and design. After researching the art and the artists who made/make it, a collection of functional art was created. The project resulted in a body of work that consisted of thirteen bags and purses that were made from gift cards and gameboards. The design of 1970's and 1980's art was used as inspiration. Traditional metalsmithing techniques were required for the completion of each work. Copper wire was used as both a structural and ornamental element. The awareness of recycled art will be heightened. Found object and recycled art is significant, purposeful, and important in both the history and future of art.

Abstract:
There are no limits when it comes to imagination to offer a total experience to customer in the luxury segment, from the welcome champagne offered at BMW dealerships reception to the exotic flavors of dinners offered to customers of Louis Vuitton. In Brazil, Louis Vuitton symbolizes an aspirational luxury, often purchased by those who seek status and want the lifestyle represented by the brand. The aim of this study was to investigate motivations for a woman to acquire a luxury, expensive item - a Louis Vuitton bag - despite the impact of its acquisition on her family budget. The evolution of the meaning of luxury throughout history was reviewed, culminating in the post-modern approach, with the recovery of subjective sensations where the search for products not only meets needs but also builds emotional meanings. An exploratory study was conducted based on in depth interviews with 15 women who acquired Louis Vuitton bags. Interviews were analyzed by laddering technique. Results suggest that more important than product attributes, perceived as great, its possession makes women start to feel as placed in a context of social status and prestige. The purchase of a Louis Vuitton bag increases their self-esteem and they perceive themselves professionally successful, important values that actually seem to motivate their decision.

Abstract:
My final thesis exhibition, Fashionable Art, opens up a link between art and fashion. I used clay as my primary medium to create hyper-realistic handbags in the style of Trompe l'oeil. I am interested in placing art in fashion settings and fashion in art settings. In the show, I placed many purses on pedestals for a gallery setting, in a glass case for a purse shop setting and also placed large photos in a fashion photo shoot setting. I am concerned with creating an environment that celebrates the handbag from just an accessory to an art object. By using clay as my primary media, the purse becomes a more permanent representation. I am able to freeze in time a small piece of our cultural timeline. I am interested in creating these hyper-realistic works because I want the viewer to be led into thinking these are real purses and to explore the idea of fashion being more than just a piece of clothing or accessory, but also the history and affect it has on each of us, big or small.

Jugnundan, Mishka. "Exploring the Factors that Impact on the Attitude to Purchase: A spotlight on counterfeit luxury handbags among Durban's emergent Black Middle-class Females." Master's thesis, Faculty of Commerce, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/32760.

Full text
Abstract:
Increased sales of counterfeit luxury branded handbags are a significant transnational concern. Research effort concerning understanding this purchase behaviour has largely been contextualised outside of Africa, with varying results relating to the impact of attitude on the purchase decision-making process having emerged. With South Africa serving as one of the most profitable counterfeit luxury handbag markets on the continent, this study sought to fundamentally determine whether consumers' attitude effected their buying rationale. The study was conducted in Durban, home to a large female middle-class population, deemed to satisfy many of the characteristics attributed to the typical counterfeit handbag consumer. The study adopted a post-positivist research paradigm and employed a causal research design. In terms of research strategy, the study made use of a quantitative approach. The target population regarding the investigation pertained to Durban's emergent Black middle-class females. In order to segment this population, nonprobability sampling was utilised, with convenience and snowball sampling having been selected. The total sample size amounted to 350 individuals, who provided data by means of a self-administered questionnaire. Once collected, this data was interpreted through factor and regression analyses. The findings of the study confirmed that individual, product and service factors impacted upon the attitude to purchase of counterfeit luxury handbags among Durban's emergent Black Middle-class females. Furthermore, it was discovered that the attitudinal antecedent's of knowledge, perceived risk, ethical obligation, product price and service quality significantly influenced attitude formation, and in turn, attitude to purchase. As such, the information collated allows for those combating counterfeit sales activity to focus their efforts and resources in a more predetermined manner. It is therefore primarily recommended that anti-counterfeiting agents place greater emphasis upon defending intellectual property rights through demand, or ‘consumer focused' initiatives which target specific purchase-prompting variables. This investigation also provides interesting opportunities for future research, including determining whether attitude continues to play an important role across different South African provinces, as well as within international settings.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis (MA (VA)(Visual Arts))--University of Stellenbosch, 2009.
The purpose of the thesis is to contextualise my art works in theoretical terms. As counterpart to my art practice and consistent with its subject matter, the thesis deals with the handbag as subject and investigates the formation of an idiomatic, metaphorical or symbolic visual language that emerges in my handbag Collections. The thesis traces how such language pertains to social, cultural and personal history as sources of its conception to also serve as foundation for the conception of my art works. Its central questions are formulated around ‘how’, thus investigating the formative, the developmental and the process. Its thinking is relativist, embracing the belief that no option is absolute, but rather as susceptible to change as it is open to interpretation. As events of change and change inducing events, developmental processes are posed in a framework of generative structuralism that comprises the internalisation of externalities and the externalisation of internalities. As such it structures an attempt to define the genesis of my aesthetic idiolect in and from a cultural context. The thesis therefore posits its secondary aims as investigative rather than determinist of how social and cultural context informs my art-making processes and how generation and development occur in my art-making processes in order to determine how these factors contribute to a personal voice becoming evident in my work. My art practice and art works serve as primary sources of information and the thesis partially serves as a process of textual re-articulation of my own art-making practices to reveal the relationships between habitus as generative structure, enaction of identity and aesthetic idiolect.

Abstract:
AbstractThe French luxury brand, Balenciaga, recently faced its most important communication crisis. On November 16th 2022, the brand released its holiday gifting campaign featuring children surrounded by sadomasochism-inspired teddy bears/handbags and received immediate backlash from the public, who accused the brand of sexualizing children and promoting pedophilia. The outrage went viral on social media - mainly on Tiktok - with the hashtags #burnbalenciaga and #cancelbalenciaga, which have accumulated more than 300 million views. Balenciaga suffered an incalculable damage on its reputation, having two flagship stores vandalized and a viral online boycott. This investigation follows the case study methodology, by analyzing the timeline of events, the brand’s statements and response, the viral effect of the boycott on social media and the ultimate affectations that the brand underwent due to the crisis. The conclusions reveal that on one hand there are some social anethical boundaries that not even well-positioned and beloved brands can afford to cross, and that slow, unclear and unaccountable answers compose a terrible strategy of crisis management, and on the other hand, the power of consumers on social media has gained enough strength to damage brands like Balenciaga.

Abstract:
The Metaverse is emerging as a hotbed for brand promotion as well as a platform for creating and using intellectual property rights including trademarks. The avatars (users) can create digital objects to sell to other users. Lenders and investors are seeking opportunities to capitalize on new Metaverse markets and digital assets as is the named NFT (not-fungible token) that is the unique data coding that can be visually represented by a digital asset, for example, a virtual handbag. Currently one of the real-world lawsuits involving trademarks and NFTs is the dispute between fashion house Hèrmes vs NFT creator Mason Rothschild. Hermès makes the exclusive line of Birkin handbags and Rothschild started selling NFTs in the form of digital images he named MetaBirkins which are the virtual reproduction of the Hèrmes product. Therefore, the fashion house filed a trademark claim for unauthorized use of their trademark and design. From the above-mentioned lawsuit raises a set of fascinating issues at the intersection of intellectual property law and digital technology. For instance, the unauthorized trademark use in Metaverse, but what, in our view, is the most important challenge is: Can you have a trademark right on an NFT? Trademark owners should be aware of the opportunities and challenges to their brand in virtual worlds. The possibilities for a Metaverse are currently limitless and the investments being made in new Metaverse-related technologies and platforms have grown enormously. Investors and companies are spending purchasing digital land in popular Metaverses to create virtual business spaces where consumers are sold goods, services, or entertainment.

Abstract:
In Hong Kong, the number of parallel traders has increased quickly within these years. Passengers bring not only handbags as planned for the subway system four decades ago. There are heavy luggage put in trolleys carried by parallel traders. Goods include milk powder, electronic devices, food and drinks. The increase in fire load will enhance the fire risk. Although the subway management limits the maximum allowable luggage to 23 kg, the combustible amount is still large in train cars. Heat release rate (HRR) is the most important parameter in fire hazard assessment. A 1:15 scale modeling test was carried out to find the HRR in a train car under limited ventilation with parallel goods in this paper. The goods were simulated by a propanol pool fire. HRR for six scenarios with all closed door to all opened door were studied. Mass loss rate of fuel, oxygen consumption, air velocity and fire duration were measured. Ventilation was provided by opening different numbers of doors of the train car. The train car fire can then be ventilation-controlled or fuel-controlled. The burning phenomena of fire in the train under limited ventilation including steady burning, oscillating fire and ghosting flame were studied. It was found that the fire size and duration depended mainly on ventilation when oxygen was very limited. When the amount of oxygen supply reached a critical value (the fire at the decay period with continuous supply of oxygen), the fire tended to be fuel-controlled. Burning characteristics of train fire under limited ventilation were also observed. They were different from fires burning in open area. Oscillating flame, ghosting flame and self-extinction were observed. Results are useful to assess fire hazards associated with parallel trading activities. Three repeated experiments on the captioned subject have been done with average results of all experiments presented.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Modern handball is characterized by high motor activity and high intensity of game actions, requiring the player to mobilize his physical, mental, and technical-tactical abilities to the limit. Naturally, this is possible only by maintaining a high level of conditioning abilities, which find external expression in the form of various movements. Objective - The present work is to investigate the relationship between some anthropometric parameters and conditioning abilities of adolescent handball players. The contingent of the study are 11-12-year-old handball players who participated in handball groups at HC “Lokomotiv” Gorna Oryahovitsa. Mathematical and statistical methods - variation and correlation analysis. The analysis of the obtained results for the anthropometric parameters of 11-12-year-old handball players shows that the individual units and segments are relatively uniform. This is due to the selection, as well as the development of the child’s organism. The established level of special motor fitness shows that the studied group is homogeneous in terms of the measured fitness indicators. The presence of certain fluctuations in the handball throw and 800 y ball tests is due to the still un-strengthened musculoskeletal system and the level of technical training.
