Abstract:
The aerosol fraction distribution in Vietnam was determined based on monitoring data LIDAR at Hanoi and GEOS–Chem using back-trajectory statistical methods. The results showed that the aerosol concentration is the highest in northeastern of Vietnam and decreasing in the southern and western directions. Maximum of organic aerosol concentration is on the north-west. The highest sea salt aerosol concentrations are in East sea and Bengal bay. Aerosol consists mainly of sulfate, organic aerosol, and sea salt aerosol: sulfate, nitrate, black carbon, ammonium, mineral dust aerosol… The result shows the complicated aerosol distribution in Vietnam.

Abstract:
The process of urbanization is taking place fast and vigorously in large urban and peri-urban areas in Vietnam. According to national forecasts, the rate of urbanization nationwide will reach 39.3% by 2020 and 50-55% by 2035. Thai Nguyen is a province in the midland and mountainous region. The province is located at the northern gateway and bordered with Hanoi capital. In recent years, the agricultural land area of Thai Nguyen province has narrowed due to the urban-industrial development. Urban agriculture development is an inevitable direction, creating safe and high quality food products, protecting the ecological environment, and increasing people's income. Thai Nguyen is one of the provinces promoting sustainable urban agricultural development. Secondary and primary data sources are analyzed and synthesized by descriptive statistical methods. The article will analyze five groups of factors affecting urban agricultural development in Thai Nguyen province in the period 2015-2018, including Socio-economic; Natural conditions and infrastructure; Policy factors; Planning factors; Links and integration.

Abstract:
The modified Eco-Bio-Block (EBB) has been studied and manufactured in Viet Nam, based on the process of blending friendly environmental materials as activated carbon, zeolite, kazemzite, sand and useful microorganisms. After culturing, bacterial communities in the modified EBB became significant abundant by DGGE analysis of 16S rDNA. The amount of microorganisms in the modified EBB was 107 CFU/g bacteria communities (Prokaryote). After 2 months treatment with the modified EBB, the quality of Khuong Thuong lake water has been significantly improved; the concentration of COD, NH4+, Coliform and Chlorophyll-a are reduced by 65.51 %, 64.28 %, 50 % and 68.42 %, respectively at the location A1. Sensuously, the lake water became brighter and cleaner. The application of the modified EBB to improve the lake water quality was conducted appropriately to the conditions at Vietnam in general and at Hanoi in particular. This research aims at localizing technology and improving efficiency on pond/lake water treatment. Further goal of the modified EBB application is to reduce pollutants in domestic wastewater form residential areas, in ditches, creeks and small lakes in Viet Nam.

Abstract:
The importance of REE for modern industries is proved by the high demand. The abundance of REE is richer than that of noble metals like gold or silver. However, supply sources are concentrated in China. The share of the product of REE was highest in 2009 (over 90%) and that is used as a national strategy.Mining industry in Vietnam is mainly developed in northern part. Deposits of principle metals are located around Hanoi, and REE deposits (Dong Pao) is also explored in Lai Chau Province. On the other hand, few bauxite mine is in southern Vietnam and the REE exploration is not conducted enough. Therefore, the study about REE in southern Vietnam is significant. Samples are from mainly basalt and granite. REE pattern, which is normalized by the abundance of chondrite, of basaltic rocks and laterites shows that is decreases monotony. That amount of REE is low (50-180ppm). REE pattern of magnetite rocks and laterites has no Eu and Ce anomaly. On the other hand, illuminate rocks and laterites have strong negative Eu anomaly. Clay minerals were observed by XRD analysis using hydraulic elutriation. The result of REE pattern and sequential extraction, it is indicated that the form of HREE is changed and adsorbed to clay and LREE is leached out. In tailing in Stop 16, it is observed that the concentration of HREE (about 3 times to 5 times than that of before washing). Eu anomaly is affected by reductive environment of the cooling of magma, and it is considered that Ce anomaly is occurred by the change of Ce form (Ce3+ to Ce4+). CeO2 is insoluble to water in the soil. From the XRD analysis, the cause of HREE concentration in water treatment is considered by the clay mineral

Abstract:
Equitization and divestment continue to be one of the crucial pillars of the economic development strategy over the period 2020-2030. The Vietnamese Government has been completing the legal framework to speed up the process of privatization and divestment over the past 3 years. One of the highlights is the regulation on the application of Book Building (BB) Method to offer state shares in 2018. BB, an effective mechanism to determine the price on the primary market, is encouraged to apply on most markets. However, according to Hanoi Stock Exchange, for four months since Circular 21/2019/BTC-TT was released, 17 announcements of IPOs or divesture of state capital were whole lot sale auction or competitive offering. This implies the popularity of fixed price and discriminatory auction in Vietnam. Moreover, applying BB in Vietnam requires certain adjustments to theories. This paper presents the advantages and disadvantages of BB over fixed price and auction, reviews BB experiences of some economies, and make recommendations on the application of BB in offering state shares in Vietnam. Given that BB is expected to create a transparent and effective pricing mechanism and enhance the success of state share offering, this study indicates some points that need clarifying or adjusting to the current regulation, including (i) initial price and price range; (ii) time for disclosing information and opening order books; (iii) objectives of BB; (iv) cancel the results of BB; (v) selection of underwriters.

Abstract:
Introduction: Atrial Septal Defect is the most common congenital heart disease. Minimally invasive cardiac surgery is being perfomed routinely at several cardiovascular centers in Vietnam. At E Cardiovascular Center, from 2016 to 2019, we performed total endoscopic closure for atrial septal defect in children using 4 trocars. From 2020 to present, we have reduced the number of trocars to three. This report was to evaluate the effectiveness and early results of total endoscopic closure with 3 trocars for atrial septal defect in children. Method: Twelve children underwent ASD closure from 1/2020 to 5/2021, with mean age of 7.7 years old (range from 2.5 to 11); mean weight was 20.8 kilograms (range from 12 to 40). All the patients underwent the operation with peripheral cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Result: The mean peripheral circulation time was 70 minutes (range from 56 to100 minutes) on beating hearts. There were 8 cases with patch-closure and 4 cases with direct-closure. After operations, we reexamined by echocardiography, the atrial septal defects were closed completely with no residual shunt, the common femoral arteries at the cannula position were normal and no stenosis were present. Conclusion: Totally endoscopic closure for ASD on beating hearts with 3 trocars is save with a very good short-term results.

This study was conducted with the purpose to identify the effectiveness of Systemic Functional Linguistic approach to improve writing skills for the EFL students at a university in Hanoi, Viet Nam. The preliminary investigation showed that most students at this university experienced many difficulties in English writing skills and they were not motivated in writing lessons. To make situation better, an action research plan was conducted with the use of quantitative and qualitative methods, focusing on applying Systemic Functional Linguistic approach, typically Theme-Rheme patterns to raise the students’ awareness of Theme-Rheme benefits in creating logical text organization and then improve their writing skills. The subjects of the study were 30 students of English major at a university of foreign languages in Vietnam. The data were collected through the pre- and post-tests, questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The findings of the study suggested that the use of this approach could improve the students’ writing skills and most of research students liked this technique because it made them motivated during English writing lessons.

Abstract:
In this study, the authors synthesise and analyse the re-sults of the 2019-2020 statistical survey on infrastructure and human resources of radiotherapy centers in Viet-nam, thereby assessing the results of the detailed plan-ning on the development and application of radiation in health to 2020, and at the same time assessing the actual radiotherapy utilisation rate of Vietnam. Statistical sur-vey results were analysed to discuss geographic distribu-tion and evaluate the characteristic ratios of PT/LINAC, PT/RO, PT/ROMP, PT/RTT of the radiotherapy centers in the application of LINAC radiotherapy technology. Research results show that although Vietnam has not met its planned target by 2020, it has obtained many achievements in developing a network of radiotherapy centers nationwide and investing in LINAC radiothera-py equipment reaching 0.73 LINAC/mil. people and the actual radiotherapy utilisation rate (ARUR) being 20% with application of advanced technologies such as IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SRS, SBRT, simulation devices such as CT, MRI, PET/CT. The total number of radiotherapists, medical physicists, and technicians nationwide are 318, 151, and 356 people, respectively. Radiotherapy centers and specialists are highly concentrated in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city with 67% of LINAC machines, respond-ing to 80% of patients receiving cancer treatment by LINAC annually. A model for forecasting radiotherapy demand has been proposed and applied to determine the expected number of LINAC machines, human resourc-es needed for the period 2020-2040 to achieve the actual radiotherapy utilisation rate of 25-35% of new cancer cases annually. Accordingly, the number of LINAC ma-chines needed by 2030 and 2040 will reach 1.1 LINAC/million people and 1.7 LINAC/million people. The de-mand for RO, ROMP, and RTT human resources is fore-casted to increase at least by 12, 34, and 67% from 2021 to 2030, respectively, and 71% for all from 2031 to 2040.

Abstract:
In this paper, seismic activity characteristics in the East Sea area was analyzed by authors on the base of the unified earthquake catalog (1900-2017), including 131505 events with magnitude 3 ≤ Mw ≤ 8.4. The seismic intensity in the East Sea during the period 1900-2017 is characterized by the earthquake representative level Mw = 4.7. The strong earthquake activity in the East Sea area clearly shows the regularity in each stage. In the period from 1900 to 2017, the East Sea area has four periods of strong earthquake activity, each stage is nearly 30 years with particular characteristics. The distribution of the maximum earthquake quantities by years has a cyclicity in all four periods. In each stage there are 1-2 strong earthquakes with Mmax ≥ 8.0. The strong earthquakes with Mmax ≥ 7.5 have occurred by a repeatable rule of 3-5 years in all four stages. This allows the prediction of the maximum earthquake repeat cycle of Mmax ≥ 7.5 in the study area is 3-5 years. In other hand, the maximum magnitude values for the East Sea region has assessed by GEV method with several different predict periods (20, 40, 60, 80, 100 years), with predicted probability 80%. Abstract:
AbstractThis paper examines the history of an unknown “mass murder” perpetrated in 1947 in Southern Vietnam by the Viet Minh forces. It was organized in the outskirts of Saigon, mainly against Cao Dai and Hoa Hao religious forces that were portrayed as “reactionary” during their political revolutionary trials. Before presenting and analyzing the data of nearly 900 victims, the paper briefly presents the social, political and military conquest and context of French Cochinchina, as well as explains the political and military ambitions of the Viet Minh forces after the advent of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in Hanoi on September 2, 1945. The focal point of this article is the review of the data related to the massacre and its uses, i.e.what they can reveal about the course of the massacre, its actors and victims. Finally, the paper's last section assesses the official historiography of the massacre, which has been recognized by the current regime in a 'soft' mea culpa. In conclusion, this article discusses the issue of violence in Southern Vietnam and its consequences for the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in a more long term perspective.

Abstract:
Can Gio mangrove forest (CGM) is located downstream of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), situated between an estuarine system of Dong Nai - Sai Gon river and a part of Vam Co river. The CGM is the largest restored mangrove forest in Vietnam and the UNESCO’s Mangrove Biosphere Reserve. The CGM has been gradually facing to numeric challenges of global climate change, environmental degradation and socio-economic development for the last decades. To evaluate sediment quality in the CGM, we collected 13 cores to analyze for sediment grain size, organic matter content, and trace element concentration of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn. Results showed that trace element concentrations ranged from uncontaminated (Cd, Cu, and Zn) to very minor contaminated (Cr, Ni, and Pb). Rong Cave is one of the more important caves in northern Vietnam’s Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark (part of the Global Geoparks Network), because its subterranean lake provides agricultural and domestic water for neighboring communities. Maintenance and utilization of Rong Cave’s water reservoir, as well as touristic cave use, require frequent human access to Rong Cave. Depending on the availability of seasonal drip water and the water level of the lake, the abundant clay-rich sediment in the back portion of Rong Cave and possible seepage of gas from deeper strata along geologic faults provide seasonally elevated concentrations of radon in cave air. Based on repeated measurements over 10 months in 2015 and 2016 of the concentrations of radon isotopes (222Rn and 220Rn, also called thoron) with a portable SARAD® RTM 2200 instrument (SARAD® GmbH, Germany), the human total annual inhalation dose was estimated according to the UNSCEAR (2000) algorithm. The result indicates that the radon-related radiation exposure is insignificant for short-term visitors but may reach ~1.8 mSv a-1 for tour guides and ~25 mSv a-1 for cave utility workers. The latter values exceed the IAEA-recommended safety threshold of 1 mSv a-1 (IAEA, 1996). We recommend radiation monitoring for cave utility workers and tour guides. Abstract:
This paper presents some results of rainfall forecast in the monsoon onset period in South Vietnam, with the use of ensemble Kalman filter to assimilate observation data into the initial field of the model. The study of rainfall forecasts are experimented at the time of Southern monsoon outbreaks for 3 years (2005, 2008 and 2009), corresponding to 18 cases. In each case, there are five trials, including satellite wind data assimilation, upper-air sounding data assimilation, mixed data (satellite wind+upper-air sounding data) assimilation and two controlled trials (one single predictive test and one multi-physical ensemble prediction), which is equivalent to 85 forecasts for one trial. Based on the statistical evaluation of 36 samples (18 meteorological stations and 18 trials), the results show that Kalman filter assimilates satellite wind data to forecast well rainfall at 48 hours and 72 hours ranges. With 24 hour forecasting period, upper-air sounding data assimilation and mixed data assimilation experiments predicted better rainfall than non-assimilation tests. The results of the assessment based on the phase prediction indicators also show that the ensemble Kalman filter assimilating satellite wind data and mixed data sets improve the rain forecasting capability of the model at 48 hours and 72 hour ranges, while the upper-air sounding data assimilation test produces satisfactory results at the 72 hour forecast range, and the multi-physical ensemble test predicted good rainfall at 24 hour and 48 hour forecasts. Abstract:
Study of petrological and geochemical characteristics of mantle peridotite xenoliths in Pliocene alkaline basalt in Nghia Dan (West Nghe An) was carried out. Rock-forming clinopyroxenes, the major trace element containers, were separated from the xenoliths to analyze for major, trace element and Sr-Nd isotopic compositions. The data were interpreted for source geochemical characteristics and geodynamic processes of the lithospheric mantle beneath the region. The peridotite xenoliths being mostly spinel-lherzolites in composition, are residual entities having been produced following partial melting events of ultramafic rocks in the asthenosphere. They are depleted in trace element abundance and Sr-Nd isotopic composition. Some are even more depleted as compared to mid-ocean ridge mantle xenoliths. Modelled calculation based on trace element abundances and their corresponding solid/liquid distribution coefficients showed that the Nghia Dan mantle xenoliths may be produced of melting degrees from 8 to 12%. Applying various methods for two-pyroxene temperature- pressure estimates, the Nghia Dan mantle xenoliths show ranges of crystallization temperature and pressure, respectively, of 1010-1044°C and 13-14.2 kbar, roughly about 43km. A geotherm constructed for the mantle xenoliths showed a higher geothermal gradient as compared to that of in the western Highlands (Vietnam) and a conductive model, implying a thermal perturbation under the region. The calculated Sm-Nd model ages for the clinopyroxenes yielded 127 and 122 Ma. Sustainable development is a global trend to build a prosperous society, especially to promote green growth towards ecological approach and based on sustainable use of natural resources in the context of climate change. This article, therefore, is an attempt to synthesize the sustainable development process in the world, from the initial awareness of the role of the environment in the development process in the 1980s, to the development of Agenda 21 in the 1990s, to develop and implement the 2030 agenda for sustainable development in the present time. The change in awareness and practice of sustainable development also demonstrates the trend of social-ecological transformation as a development trend and is an urgent requirement towards building a prosperous and sustainable society. Integrating sustainable development into international and national development policies can be considered as a form of promoting social-ecological transformation. The UNESCO’ system of Biosphere Reserves as a model for promoting sustainable development initiatives towards harmony between people and nature can be considered as a model of a social-ecological system. Vietnam as a country actively participating the sustainable development process in the world has made great efforts to build a prosperous and sustainable society. Vietnam is among 30 high TB ​​burden countries even though the Vietnam National TB Program has made great efforts to detect and treat tuberculosis. Objectives: Assessment of Mycobacterial level in sputum before treatment, and susceptibility to the first line anti-TB drugs of M. tuberculosis strains isolated from TB patients with AFB (+) and non-multidrug-resistant. Moreover, factors influencing MGIT outcome after the first 8 weeks of first-line anti-TB drugs therapy in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis was also analysed. Methodology: An observational, analytical study was performed in 128 patients with non-multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis AFB (+) for evaluating the level of Mycobacteria in sputum before treatment by smear microscopy method; the susceptibility of M. tuberculosis isolated from sputum of the patient was analysed by Lowenstein - Jensen method. Factors affecting positive MGIT results after 2 months of treatment were determined by multivariate logistics regression. Results: The patients had AFB 3+ were 28% in new cases and 24,5% retreatment patients. The rate of M. tuberculosis strains was susceptible to the first line anti-TB drugs in new cases was higher than retreatment patients. The percentage of any anti-TB drug resistance in retreatment tuberculosis was 59,6%, higher than that of new case TB (23,6%). There was high rate of M. tuberculosis strains resistant to Streptomycin and Isoniazid (12,5% and 16,8% for new cases; 42,3% and 36,5% for retreatment cases, respectively). Large radiographic chest lesions and high AFB levels in pre-treatment sputum were factors associated with a positive MGIT result after the first 8 weeks of treatment. Conclusion: Most of TB patients had high level of Mycobacteria in sputum samples collected before treatment. The percentage of M. tuberculosis strains isolated from sputum of pulmonary non MDR-TB patients had any anti-TB drug resistance were high. High Mycobacteria level in pre-treatment sputum and radiographic chest lesions related to positive MGIT result after the first 8 weeks of treatment. Abstract Background Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a zoonotic disease and has been reported around the world. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the sero-prevalence and phylogenetic analysis of HEV in Vietnam. Pig blood and fecal pooled samples were collected to assess the prevalence of HEV. We assessed the true prevalence (TP) of HEV from apparent prevalence (AP) by taking into account the sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic tests using a Bayesian approach. For phylogenetic analysis, the data compared with worldwide HEV reference strains including all eight genotypes (G1-G8) which were identified in previous study. Results A total of 475 sera and 250 fecal pooled samples were collected at slaughterhouses and pig farms from five provinces, in Viet Nam. Overall, the sero-AP of HEV was 58.53% (95% confidence interval: 53.95–62.70) while the sero-TP was slightly higher (65.43, 95% credible interval: 47.19–84.70). In terms of pooled samples, overall, the RNA-AP was 6.80% (95% confidence interval: 4.01–10.66). One strain in Hanoi, two strains in Dak Lak, seven strains in An Giang, four strains in Son La and two strains in Nghe An were isolated. The phylogenetic tree demonstrated that 19 Vietnamese strains were clustered into HEV 3 and 4. Conclusions This study provided evidence that HEV is circulating in domestic pigs in Vietnam. From a public health perspective, it is very important to raise public awareness for high-risk groups (e.g. slaughterhouse workers, pig traders, farmers and market sellers) who have more opportunities to come in contact with pig and contaminated meats.

Abstract Background As in many other low and middle income countries (LIMCs), Vietnam has experienced a major growth in the pharmaceutical industry, with large numbers of pharmacies and drug stores, and increasing drug expenditure per capita over the past decade. Despite regulatory frameworks that have been introduced to control the dispensing and use of prescription-only drugs, including antibiotics, compliance has been reported to be strikingly low particularly in rural parts of Vietnam. This qualitative study aimed to understand antibiotic access and use practices in the community from both supplier and consumer perspectives in order to support the identification and development of future interventions. Methods This qualitative study was part of a project on community antibiotic access and use (ABACUS) in six LMICs. The focus was Ba Vi district of Hanoi capital city, where we conducted 16 indepth interviews (IDIs) with drug suppliers, and 16 IDIs and 6 focus group discussions (FGDs) with community members. Drug suppliers were sampled based on mapping of all informal and formal antibiotic purchase or dispensing points in the study area. Community members were identified through local networks and relationships with the field collaborators. All IDIs and FGDs were audio-taped, transcribed and analysed using content analysis. Results We identified a large number of antibiotic suppliers in the locality with widespread infringements of regulatory requirements. Established reciprocal relationships between suppliers and consumers in drug transactions were noted, as was the consumers’ trust in the knowledge and services provided by the suppliers. In addition, antibiotic use has become a habitual choice in most illness conditions, driven by both suppliers and consumers. Conclusions This study presents an analysis of the practices of antibiotic access and use in a rural Vietnamese setting. It highlights the interactions between antibiotic suppliers and consumers in the community and identifies possible targets for interventions.

Oily waste-water is generated in many industrial processes, such as oil refining, oil storage, exploration, transportation, washing ... Oily waste water poses a great problem with water environment, ecosystem and human health. Nowadays, application of microbial biofilm for the removal of oil and derivatives from contaminated environments has received much attention. Microbial biofilms are defined as complex coherent structure of cells and cellular products, which are attached on solid surface. In biofilm structure, microorganisms increase their ability to grow and survive in changing environmental conditions and increase their access to absorb substrates or nutrients. This study focused on the degradation of hydrocarbon components contaminated in oil polluted waste water by biofilm formed by a mixture of bacterial and yeast strains isolated from oil contaminated water in Viet Nam attached on coconut fiber carriers in 2000 liter system. As the results, biofilm attached on coir carrier could degrade 62% after 5 days and 99,9% after 7 days of the total amount of oil with the initial concentration of 31.950 mg/l. Phenol and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) also were degraded up to 99.9% phenol and more than 94,8%PAHs in oily wastewater. This result gave hint to develop new method to treat petroleum oil contaminated water in Vietnam.

Vietnam embarked on fundamentally building a public debt management system since 2009 as the Law of Public Debt Management was designed and promulgated. From then Vietnam has been following the typical model of public debt management used by developing countries, the market – based model which encompasses gradual building and completion of domestic market for government bond. However, because of several limitations in the national system of public debt management, the current model needs to be improved in alignment with the development level of Vietnam’s economy. Especially, economic shocks such as the 2009 financial crisis or Covid 19 which has increased dramatically the scope of public debt also urge a more technical and effective model. The paper focuses on analyzing the practical models of public debt management in the world and subsequently the current situation of Vietnam’s model. On that basis, the author figures out the limitations of the model and proposes a number of solutions to upgrade the model in accordance with the international practice regarding model of public debt management suitable with development level of economy. Abstract:
This study analyzes the direct treatment cost for exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at the Department of Pulmonology, E Hospital from October 2019 to March 2020. The study results show that the average direct treatment cost for exacerbation of COPD was VND 9,102,311.71; the highest cost was VND 36,304,614 and the lowest cost, VND 2,309,961. Among the direct treatment cost components, drug cost showed the highest proportion, followed by hospital bed, then surgical procedures, tests, diagnostic imaging, functional exploration, examination and medical supplies. The cost of antibiotics accounted for 57.76% of the drug cost. The average number of hospitalization days was 10.77, closely relating to the direct cost. Besides, age and comorbidity also affected the number of hospitalization days. The average health insurance support for each patient was up to 94.46% of the total treatment cost. The results also show that the cost of treatment in Vietnam is lower than some countries in the region and the proportions of the cost components presented in different studies in Vietnam are different. Abstract:
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the world. Cardiovascular risk assessment is an important step in preventing and treating the disease. The current study assesses the 10-year risk of cardiovascular disease in 306 VNU’s office workers in 2016-2017 based on the 2008 Framingham Risk Score. The study results show that the average risk score was 4.05 ± 4.76%; low risk was 90.52%; moderate risk: 7.85 %; and high to very high risk was 1.63%. Men have a higher risk score than women (p <0.001). The ten-year cardiovascular risk score shows that age and systolic blood pressure correlated with the risk at a medium level, and cholesterol and HDL correlated with it at a low level.
