Leprosy is a dermato-neurological chronic infection caused by Mycobacterium leprae, an acid fast intracellular bacilli, not cultivated in vitro. Leprosy predominantly affects the skin and peripheral nerves. The different manifestations of leprosy are known since time immemorial. But even today when we are trying hard to eradicate leprosy, newer forms of presentation continue to crop in the form of laryngeal dyspnoea, bullae with hematoma, xanthoma like presentation etc. Granuloma annulare (GA) is typically a benign, self-limited cutaneous disorder classically presenting as annular groups of sk

Hansen's disease can occur during pregnancy and worsen during pregnancy. Pregnancy causes a relative decrease in cellular immunity. This can be explained because immunosuppression occurs during pregnancy. Pregnancy is dangerous for women with Hansen’s morbus . This change followed decades of advocacy, including by civil society organisations representing people affected by the disease. A survey of people affected by Hansen's disease in Brazil found that 111/112 respondents preferred the alternative term, supporting the view that consideration of non-stigmatising terminology that respects the wishes of people affected by the disease shoul
