Abstract:
Central motifs and episodes form interesting and significant links between Aksel Sandemose’s novel Det svundne er en drøm, published in 1946, and Martin A. Hansen’s novel from 1950, Løgneren. The motifs of truth versus lie, and the intermingling of the two, and of the split subject, manifest themselves in the protagonists who share a common first name, Johannes. The texts are an attempt to write diaries that transcend the borderline between past and present, fiction and reality, truth and lying. The diary form, composed in the first person as an alternative to the novel form proper, is viewed by both protagonists as an experiment that questions the ability of language to portray reality accurately and truthfully. Furthermore, the diaries break with chronology in order to come to terms with a darkness within, an essentially unknown, demonic territory that prevents knowledge and truth from emerging. Central episodes in the two diaries are practically identical, e.g. the drowning accident that takes place in both texts, the absence of the ‘I’ of the diary from home, and the sense of alienation from home. Additionally, significant symbols recur in both texts, e.g. a necklace and migratory birds. The protagonists’ relationships to women are all but identical and involve an examination of the past and of guilt that becomes a potential key to resolving what constitutes guilt, conscience, home and exile. The two texts form an intertext and there is compelling evidence pointing to Sandemose’s diary having profoundly influenced Hansen’s narrative.

Abstract:
One of the last performances Vertical City (Bruce Barton and Pil Hansen) created before moving from Toronto to Calgary was Trace, which premiered at the 2014 SummerWorks festival. Crafted in a compact and intense development process with close collaborators Michelle Polak and Martin Julien, Trace marked a subtle but defining moment in our artistic trajectory. Engaging participants in ways unconceivable in our present pandemic world, it was one of our most illuminating explorations of the potential for/in deeply intimate personal exchange between performers and audience members. Trace was built on, with, and through a process of spontaneous collective reminiscence-one perhaps only conceivable within SummerWorks’ combination of careful curatorial oversight and empowering artist autonomy. Adopting similar structural and aesthetic principles, this impressionistic three-way meandering reflects back on that experience. In the process, it renders a fittingly fragmented but deeply felt ode to SummerWorks’ distinctive blend of intention, intelligence, and opportunity.

Abstract:

"Computational Study of Scattering Elastic Waves Due to a Teredo Marine Borer-Like Cylindrical Defect Embedded in an Isotropic Solid Cylinder." In Structural Health Monitoring. Materials Research Forum LLC, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21741/9781644901311-13.

Abstract:
Abstract. This paper showcases a quantitative investigation of scattering of ultrasonic waves experiences when impinging on a cylindrical defect inside a solid cylinder. Such cylindrical bores reduce the structural capacity of the cylinder, these defects constitute an even greater risk as they cannot be observed from the surface. The focal point investigated herein is to develop a better understanding of the wave’s scattering when interacting with defects of cylindrical bore, mimicking the Teredo marine borer, within the solid cylinder. Two-dimensional Finite Element simulations are carried out using ABAQUS software. A 200 kHz 5.5 cycle Hann windowed excitation on an isotropic cylinder is simulated a point source excitation at the circumference of the cylinder is used. The scattering wave fields from a range of defect diameters through the solid cylinder are presented. Using Two-Dimensional Fast Fourier Transform, the wave mode and velocity of the scattered wavefield along various directions was identified in cylindrical coordinates, to decouple the wave modes. Computational results are presented for the scattering pattern as a function of cylindrical bore diameter size relative to wavelength. This study serves as an efficient approach when choosing an input for ultrasonic imaging, with the aim to obtain high fidelity imaging resolution for structural health monitoring applications.

Abstract:
Abstract Human’s motion and its mechanisms had become interesting in the last years, where the medecine’s field search for rehabilitation methods for handicapped persons. Other fields, like sport sciences, professional or military world, search to distinguish profiles and ways to train them with specific purposes. Besides, recent findings in neuroscience try to describe these mechanisms from an organic point of view. Until now, different researchs had given a model about control motor that describes how the union between the senses’s information allows adaptable movements. One of this sense is the proprioception, the sense which has a quite big factor in the orientation and position of the body, its members and joints. For this reason, research for new strategies to explore proprioception and improve the theories of human motion could be done by three different vias. At first, the sense is analysed in a case-study where three groups of persons are compared in a controlled enviroment with three experimental tasks. The subjects belong to each group by the kind of sport they do: sedentary, normal sportsmen (e.g. athletics, swimming) and martial sportmen (e.g. karate, judo). They are compared thinking about the following hypothesis: “Martial Sportmen have a better proprioception than of the other groups’s subjects: It could be due to the type of exercises they do in their sports as empirically, a contact sportsman shows significantly superior motor skills to the members of the other two groups. The second via are records from encephalogram (EEG) while the experimental tasks are doing. These records are analised a posteriori with a set of processing algorithms to extract characteristics about brain’s activity of the proprioception and motion control. Finally , the study tries to integrate graphic tools to make easy to understand final scientific results which allow us to explore the brain activity of the subjects through easy interfaces (e.g. space-time events, activity intensity, connectivity, specific neural netwoks or anormal activity). In the future, this application could be a complement to assist doctors, researchers, sports center specialists and anyone who must improve the health and movements of handicapped persons. Abstract:
Abstract Cementing a highly deviated production liner is associated with cement placement challenge that can compromise zonal isolation. A major operator in UAE, was facing a challenge to cement 4 ½ in slim production liner set at + 5000 ft off-bottom. The corresponding 6 in. section was drilled with a relatively high mud weight in the range of 12 to 13 PPG. One of the main challenge was the risk of solids settling on the low side of the wellbore, making mud displacement difficult to achieve while cementing. Additionally, cementing off-bottom without an ECP in a highly deviated wellbore with multiple exposed production zones, further increased cement placement complexity. A holistic engineering approach was integrated to ensure successful zonal isolation. Wellbore parameters and fluid properties were critically evaluated. To overcome off-bottom cementing and prevent slurry fallback risks, a weighted high viscosity pill with high yield point was placed as a temporary basement to support the cement column and isolate the reservoir during 4 ½ in liner job. After placement of the pill, the wellbore was observed for flow checks to ensure stable downhole conditions prior to displacing the drilling fluid across the liner interval to brine within the same density. A centralization program was implemented to achieve more than 70% stand-off which required a minimum centralization pattern of two rigid centralizers per joint which helped minimize the presence of mud channels on the narrow side. Effective mud removal was ensured through implementation of a spacer train in front of the cement. The first spacer was pumped with same mud density to reduce ECD followed by another advanced low invasion loss circulation spacer to mitigate losses as well as provide a sustained downhole rheology. A resilient, expandable and gas tight cement slurry, was selected to target long-term zonal isolation. Multiple hydraulic simulations were performed to optimize ECDs and ensure safe margins during placement A CFD (computational fluid dynamics) model was utilized to simulate hydraulics, expected mud removal and fluids inter-mixing especially during liner rotation. In addition, the model simulated high-calculated torques based on flow restrictions through liner hanger assembly. Lack of mechanical liner movement was compensated by additional pre-job circulation to fully condition the wellbore. The job was executed with no losses during cementing, and spacer and cement returns were received on the surface during reverse out. Utilizing the best engineering approach, practices, and techniques from this job is implemented in the future wells as the production of the well is directly affected by the cement quality. Post job cement integrity evaluation via a cement bond log confirmed excellent bonding of cement to the liner and reservoirs across the entire open-hole interval.

Abstract:
Abstract The B Field is located in the South China Sea, about 45 KM offshore Sarawak, Malaysia, in a water depth approximately 230 ft. Its structure is generally regarded as a gentle rollover anticline with collapsed crest resulting from growth faulting. The reservoirs were deposited in a coastal to shallow marine with some channels observed. Multiple stacked reservoirs consist of a series of very thick stacked alternating sandstone and minor shale layers with differing reservoir properties. The shallow zones are unconsolidated, and the wells were completed with internal gravel packs. Wells in B Field mostly were completed in multi-layered reservoirs as dual strings with SSDs and meant to produce as a commingled production. The well BX is located within B Field and designed as oil producer well with a conventional tubing jointedElectrical Submersible Pump (ESP) system which was installed back in 2008. Refer to figure 1, the initial completion schematic is 3-1/2″ single string that consist of the single production packer, gas lift mandrel, tubing retrievable Surface Controlled Subsurface Safety Valve (SCSSV) and ESP. The production packers equipped with the feed thru design to accommodate the ESP cable and the gas vent valve as part of the ESP completion design. The gas lift mandrel was installed in the completion string as a backup artificial lift method to receive the gas lift and orifice valve in the event of the conventional ESP failed. Hence the well still able to produce by introducing the gas thru the annulus to activate the gas lift valve. Eventually throughout the end of the the field life, the well would depend on the ESP system for the primary lifting method due to gas lift depth limitation and the gas supply. The conventional ESP failed after seven years of operation which is above the average ESP lifetime. The well last produced at a flow rate with 28 % water cut, however the well is not at the end of the field life. Based on the economical study with the right technology and cost efficient approach, the well still economicaly profitable. The Thru Tubing (TT) ESP technology is approached as cost effective solution compare to fully well workover. Despite a couple of operational challenges, for example, setting the cable hanger, maintaining downhole barrier requirement, the Thru Tubing Electrical Submersible Pump Cable Deployed (TTESP CD) and Cable Thru Insert Safety Valve (CT-ISV) was successfully installed. Several post-installation findings have uncovered some problems which are requiring some additional technical and operation improvement for future similar applications. This paper will highlight the deployment of the Cable Thru Insert Safety Valve (CT-ISV) that was successfully installed as pilot, which is the first application in the world, and also highlights the success, lesson learnt and improvement for future requirement for the CT-ISV application as one of the solution for retrofitting completion application without jeopardizing the well integrity. This achievement is collaboration between Company and service partner as the technology and deployment under the proprietary scope. Further technology application, the replication of this insert safety valve was conducted and successfully deployed on other three wells.
