This study offers a critique of the First Nations Property Ownership Act (FNPOA), a contemporary proposal to implement private property regimes on First Nations reserves in Canada. First, I examine the arguments used by proponents of the FNPOA to motivate support for this legislation. I demonstrate how, despite its similarity with past attempts to privatize First Nations reserve lands, the FNPOA represents a re-articulation of these older proposals as a type of recognition, where the implementation of fee simple property on reserves is cast as “restoring” pre-colonial property rights regimes.

Abstract:

<p>Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOA) är en amerikansk lag som även påverkar svenska företag. Lagen är tillämplig på samtliga amerikanska och icke-amerikanska företag som är noterade på någon amerikansk börs. SOA ställer bland annat krav på att bolagen har ett välutvecklat internkontrollsystem, vilket ska bidra till att den finansiella redovisningen blir mer korrekt. Genom SOA kommer företagens ekonomichef och VD att få personligt ansvar för företagens finansiella rapportering. De ska intyga att varje delårsrapport och årsrapport som lämnas är korrekt, skulle intygandet visa sig vara osant blir konsekve

<p>År 2002 infördes en ny lagstiftning i USA, Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX). Lagen är en reaktion på de redovisningsskandaler som ägt rum i landet där framstående företag varit inblandade. På grund av skandalerna tappade investerarna förtroendet för aktiemarknaden såväl som för revisionsbranschen. Ökade krav på företagens interna kontroller skall bidra till att minska fel i den finansiella rapporteringen, minska antalet bedrägerier samt återställa investerarnas förtroende. Abstract:

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was designed to reduce the number of citizens who do not have health insurance, and reduce the prices of health insurance premiums. Using multiple regression analysis, the effects of the components of the ACA, along with baseline characteristics of the states, are examined in relation to ACA premium prices and the rate of uninsured. We find that premium prices are higher in states with more uninsured, and states with more obesity have more uninsured. This project looks at the experience of being sectioned under the 1983 Mental Health Act for acute psychiatric patients. The view is taken that sectioning in itself is a major intervention and hence should be the subject of research scrutiny.
