Abstract:
A new architecture for melody extraction from polyphonic music is explored in this paper. Specifically, chromagrams are first constructed through the harmonic pitch class profile (HPCP) to measure the salience of melody, and chroma-level notes are tracked by dynamic programming. Then, note detection is performed according to chroma-level note differences between adjacent frames. Next, note pitches are coarsely mapped by maximizing the salience of each note, followed by a fine tuning to fit the dynamic variation within each note. Finally, voicing detection is carried out to determine the presen

Abstract:
Cogging torque is a critical dilemma in Permanent Magnet Brushless DC (PMBLDC) motors. In medium-low power PMBLDC motors, redundant vibrations and forbidding noises arise as a result of the harmonic magnetic forces created by cogging torque. This paper introduces a simple approach for minimizing cogging torque in PMBLDC motors by applying placement irregularities in rotor magnets. An angle shift in the rotor magnets in surface-mounted PMBLDC motors helps to attain magnet displacement. This displacement imparts an asymmetrical magnet structure to the rotor. Maintaining pole arc to pole pitch ra

Reznor invites creativity facilitated by copying and transformation. “Copy” carries connotations of unsavoury notions such as piracy, stealing, fake, and plagiarism. Conversely, in some c

Abstract:
This thesis describes the design and implementation of audio effect for pitch shifting of monophonic singing signals. The effect can generate two pitch shifted voices from input signal in real-time, while preserving formants. Amount of the shift can be controlled via MIDI controller. The effect is implemented as VST module in the form of dynamic-link library. This work also includes theoretical introduction to related DSP techniques.

Abstract:
The chapter provides several exercises that aim to refine left-hand technique in the intermediate-advanced levels of string playing. These techniques include building better pitch accuracy, tuning double stops, executing trills, producing both natural and false harmonics, shifting, perfecting vibrato, and performing glissando. Right-hand bowing techniques that develop phrasing as well as various sound colors and advanced bowing styles are discussed. The author explains how incorporating western music history and theory concepts in rehearsals help students gain a deeper understanding about a piece’s purpose, musical form, harmonic structure, and rhythmic principles so that students can convey a powerful and emotional performance.
