We found that the ratio between the rms amplitude of the harmonic and that of the fundamental remains constant in a wide range of the fundamental frequency. More importantly, we studied, for the first time, the rms amplitude of the harmonics versus energy in 4U 1636–53 in the 2–5 keV ra

Some of the reports [1-3] considered strong internal de fields to be the main reason for writing such gratings. In other papers [4-6] a lot of attention is paid to formation and orientation of color centers and permanent defects. In this great role can play UV-radiation due to simultaneous generation of the third or fourth harmonics.

Recently there has been considerable interest in surface-emitting second-harmonic (SH) generators fabricated from the AlxGa1-xAs system.1,2) No systematic data are available, however, on the d coefficients of AlxGa1-xAs1,3,4) A major reason for this is that many interesting semiconductors, including AlxGa1-xAs, are obtainable only in the form of a thin epitaxial layer. Furthermore, the substrate is often absorptive at SH frequencies. We have developed a new method for characterizing the optical nonlinearity of such thin-film materials on the basis of the method of reflected harmonics.5) The ne

We consider a simple quantized harmonic oscillator driven by a current of spin 1/2 particles resonant with the oscillator frequency. A possible realization of this model might be achieved in a micromaser. Our analysis shows that the system may evolve to pure states j of the field even for mixed state initial conditions. Specifically, writing the field state as |f⟩ = Σ n |n⟩ we find the two possible solutions: For this reason we call these states cotangent and tangent states of the harmonic oscillator, respectively.

The third-order optical nonlinearities, whose potential for optical processing and switching has been understood for many years, have not found wide applications, for the simple reason that typical χ(3) is too small to make the devices based on it practical. Recently, however, a significant progress has been made on the way to change this unfortunate situation, by using cascaded second order nonlinear processes in order to achieve the effective third-order nonlinearity. This method, first realized in [1],[2] suggests the use of the parametric interaction between fundamental and second-harmonic

The article analyzes the influence of the non-linear terms of the restoring force at large deviations from the equilibrium position of an oscillating body (non-linear oscillator). Particularly, it is demonstrated, in an accessible way, that the oscillations of the anharmonic oscillator drastically differ from thoseof a harmonic one. The main reason lies in the fact the oscillator frequency ofthe nonlinear oscillator, at large deviations, begins to depend on the amplitudeof the oscillations.

Discovering vibration problems after engine prototype tests translates in increased costs and limited re-design space. For this reason numerical tools are more and more being applied to help taking correct decision in the early design. This paper presents the estimation of the vibration levels induced by hot-streaks from burner-cans in the last blade of an industrial gas turbine. The aerodynamic forcing was obtained from full wheel time marching unsteady computational fluid dynamics calculation. The results are compared with a previous calculation of a scaled sector model. The features of second harmonic generation (SHG) in the depleted pump regime are known since the early works of N. Bloembergen et al.[1]. For some years, this kind of SHG has attracted a great deal of interest[2]. The reason is as follows : in the presence of depletion of the fundamental frequency field together with a small phase mismatch, this kind of interaction can lead to a nonlinear (NL) phase shift of several π[2]. There lies the interest of such a process.

Abstract In any congested area, where a fixed-wing aircraft cannot perform, rotary-wing counterparts are the best-suited option for its vertical take-off and landing capacity. The vibration induced by the rotor blade is a significant problem in helicopter performances. Rotor aerodynamic loading, rotor dynamics, and fuselage dynamics are the elements that contribute to the vibration of a helicopter. Among these elements, the key reason for the helicopter vibration is the aerodynamic loading. Determining aerodynamic loading is one of the most important criteria to design a rotor blade and to min

One of them is the so-called Modal SSD, where the switches of the shunting circuit are governed by the behavior of the modal coordinates of the structure. Although the control performance is g
