After a brief introduction, we consider three main results in the existence theory of harmonic maps between manifolds. The first is the heat-equation proof of Eells and Sampson, which says that minimal harmonic maps of compact manifolds into compact manifolds with nonpositive curvature always exist. The next two results show they exist among maps of compact Riemann surfaces into compact manifolds, N, with $ pi sb2$(N) = 0. One proof uses the induced $ pi sb1$-action of Schoen and Yau; the other a perturbation of the action due to Sacks and Uhlenbeck. As required, we also develop some of the re

Harmonic domain models have been developed for Thyristor Controller Reactors (TCR) and other power electronic devices. Recently, these models have been extended to describe not just the steady-state harmonic interactions but harmonic transients as well. However, these dynamic models consistently do not incorporate models for controls. On the other hand, for the TCR as a FACTS Controller, dynamic models are available in which only the fundamental frequency component of the Controller is included; excluding harmonic interactions presumes that these do not affect the dynamics of the Controller.

A constant switching frequency with the sixth-order harmonic injection PWM concept is established, and a sixth-order harmonic injection technique is developed for the harmonic reduction of a single-switch three-phase boost rectifier. The approach employs a constant duty cycle with sixth-order harmonic injection to suppress the dominant (fifth-order) harmonic in the input currents. Hence, to meet the THD<10% requirement, the rectifier voltage gain can be designed down to 1.45; to meet the IEC 1000-3-2 (A) standard, the output power can be pushed up to 10 kW for the application with a 3X220 V in

Bolted joints provide one of the most common means of joining two structural components together. The joints themselves use friction to transmit force, torque and motion across a common interface from one component to another. This makes the analysis of dynamic systelTIS with joints unrealistic with conventional linear techniques. It has also been shown that the contact pressure at a joint interface is not necessarily

First we show that an f-holomorphic map of a Hermitian cosymplectic manifold is harmonic provided that the f-structure on the co-domain satisfies (d∇F)1,1 = 0, where ∇ is the Levi-Civita connection. We then characterize those invariant f-structures and metrics on homogeneous spaces which satisfy this condition. On a homogeneous space whose tangent bundle splits as a direct sum of mutually distinct isotropy spaces (e.g. a flag manifold), we see that an f-structure which is horizontal (i.e. [F+, F] ⊂ h) s
