Power Quality (PQ) brings more challenges to the large- scale and medium scale industries because in the recent years most of them use high efficiency and low energy devices which cause vulnerable PQ disturbances at Point of Common Coupling (PCC). In this paper, the measurement at different times during load condition and analysis of all types of disturbances occurred has been done. When large rated equipments run, the disturbance (harmonics, RMS variations, and switching transients) levels are very high and poor power factor (PF) has also appeared. Due to this poor PF, reactive power consumpt

<p>This paper presents an analysis of a three-phase unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) in terms of design and performance. A back to back connection of a series compensator and a shunt compensator with a common DC-bus is utilized to build the UPQC model. The series compensator compensates the power quality problems such as grid voltage sags/swells for the grid side. During sag and swell condition, the compensated voltage is injected by the series compensator in phase with the point of common coupling (PCC) or out of phase with PCC. The load current harmonics is compensated by using

Power quality issues are an important and growing problem in microgrid. There are two reasons; the more active consumer is participating in the power sector, the use of renewable energy which having a great impact on voltage variation. This paper discusses power quality disturbance and especially harmonic distortion issues in microgrid, and suggests a solution to maintain the operation of the distribution system within power quality standard. To protect sensitive loads from harmonics produced by the grid and by renewable energy sources, passive harmonic filter has been proposed in this paper.

The power quality analysis is an essential issue in the integration of distributed energy resources to the grid. Recent standards regulate the harmonics disturbances due to the increasing penetration of intermittent energy sources interconnected with the grid employing power converters. This paper aims to analyze the power quality of an interconnected wind turbine system based on a Squirrel Cage Induction Generator (SCIG) driven by an Electromagnetic Frequency Regulator (EFR). The steady state of the EFR harmonic model is developed in the stationary frame based on the conventional induction ge

Integration of renewable energy resources and conventional grids leads to an increase in power quality issues. These power quality issues require different standards to be followed for accurate measurement and monitoring of various parameters of the power system. Conventional power quality analyzers (PQAs) are programmed to a particular standard and cannot be reconfigured by the end user. Therefore, conventional PQAs cannot meet the challenges of a rapidly changing grid. In this regard, a Compact RIO-based (CRIO-based) PQA was proposed, that can be easily reprogrammed and cope with the challen

The development of renewable energy and the increase of intermittent fluctuating loads have affected the power quality of power systems, and in the long run, damage the power equipment. In order to effectively analyze the quality of power signals, this paper proposes a method of signal feature capture and fault identification, as based on the extension neural network (ENN) algorithm combined with discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and Parseval’s theorem. First, the original power quality disturbance (PQD) transient signal was subjected to DWT, and its spectrum energy was calculated for each orde

Various custom power devices are introduced recently to overcome these voltage issues, dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is one of them. It offers very cost effective solution for problems such as voltage sag, swell and harmonics by establishing the proper voltage level during voltage disturbances to protect sensitive loads.
