Abstract:
The harlequin ladybird beetle Harmonia axyridis has been introduced in many countries as a biological control agent, but has become an invasive species threatening the biodiversity of native ladybirds. Its invasive success has been attributed to its vigorous resistance against diverse pathogens. This study demonstrates that harmonine ((17 R ,9 Z )-1,17-diaminooctadec-9-ene), which is present in H. axyridis haemolymph, displays broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity that includes human pathogens. Antibacterial activity is most pronounced against fast-growing mycobacteria and Mycobacterium tuberculosis , and the growth of both chloroquine-sensitive and -resistant Plasmodium falciparum strains is inhibited. Harmonine displays gametocytocidal activity, and inhibits the exflagellation of microgametocytes and zygote formation. In an Anopheles stephensi mosquito feeding model, harmonine displays transmission-blocking activity.

(R)-Harmonine was synthesised in 15 % overall yield via a six-step sequence exploiting a Z-selective cross-metathesis reaction as its centrepiece. By this strategy, the cis-olefin present in the target could be installed exclusively. The use of an alcohol and an ester as the amine precursors was crucial for isolating the cross-metathesis product from the self-metathesis products. This method was also used to prepare two novel analogues of harmonine.

Abstract:
The harlequin ladybird, Harmonia axyridis , has emerged as a model species for invasion biology, reflecting its remarkable capacity to outcompete native ladybird species when introduced into new habitats. This ability may be associated with its prominent resistance to pathogens and intraguild predation. We recently showed that the constitutive antibacterial activity present in the haemolymph of H. axyridis beetles can be attributed to the chemical defence compound harmonine. Here, we demonstrate that H. axyridis differs from other insects, including the native ladybird Coccinella septempunctata, by reducing rather than increasing the antimicrobial activity of its haemolymph following the injection of bacteria. However, both species produce new or more abundant proteins in the haemolymph, indicating that bacterial challenge induces innate immune responses associated with the synthesis of immunity-related proteins. Our results suggest that H. axyridis beetles can switch from constitutive chemical defence to inducible innate immune responses, supporting hypothesis that inducible antimicrobial peptides protect host beetles against pathogens that survive constitutive defences. These alternative antimicrobial defence mechanisms may reflect a trade-off resulting from fitness-related costs associated with the simultaneous synthesis of harmonine and antimicrobial peptides/proteins.

Aristotelov pristop k glasbi poteka na treh področjih: harmonična znanost, psihologija glasbe ter vpliv glasbene umetnosti na človeka, kar zajemata nauk o ethosu glasbe in nauk o glasbeni katarzi. V tej razpravi bomo obravnavali Aristotelovo razumevanje glasbe v Metafiziki in njegovo psihologijo sluha in zvoka v spisu O duši. Aristoteles je v Metafiziki obravnaval matematične temelje pitagorejske harmonike, to je pitagorejska teorija števil. Pri tem je zavrnil pitagorejsko in platonistično teorijo o številih kot vmesnih bitnostih med čutnozaznavnimi stvarmi in idejami. Aristoteles je zavračal tudi idejo kozmične glasbe in vzpostavil razlikovanje med matematično in akustično harmoniko. Posebej sta prikazana dva pojma Aristotelove harmonike: njegovo razumevanje četrttona in glasbenega sozvočja ali konzonance. V svoji psihologiji je Aristoteles glasbo upošteval kot čutnoznaznavni pojav. Pri tem je vzpostavil razlikovanje med zvokom, glasom in tonom, kar je ostalo veljavno vse do moderne fizikalne akustike. Posebej pa je pomembno njegovo določilo kot razmerja, λόγος-a in glasu kot sozvočja: čutno zaznavanje je primerjal z glasbilom na strune. Aristoteles je tako preoblikoval pitagorejsko razumevanje duše kot harmonije in naznačil umetnostni karakter slušnega izkustva.

An approximate formulation is given to a dynamic coupled thermo‐mechanical problem for physically nonlinear inelastic thin‐walled structural elements within the framework of a geometrically linear theory and the Kirchhoff‐Love hypotheses. A simplified model is used to describe the vibrations and dissipative heating of inhomogeneous physically non‐linear bodies under harmonic loading. Unsteady vibration self‐heating problem is solved. The dissipative function obtained from the solution for steady‐state vibrations is used to simulate internal heat sources. For the partial case of forced vibrations of a beam, the amplitude‐frequency characteristics of the field quantities are studied within a wide frequency range. The temperature characteristics for the first and second resonance modes are compared. Santrauka Naudojant geometrinio tiesiškumo ir Kirchhofo ir Love hipotezes, pateikiama apytikslė jungtinė dinamikos ir disipacinės šilumos uždavinio formuluotė fiziškai netiesiniams konstrukciniams elementams. Apytikslis modelis taikomas harmonine apkrova veikiamo nehomogeninio fiziškai netiesinio kūno svyravimams ir išskiriamai šilumai aprašyti. Sprendžiamas neharmoninių svyravimų disipacinės šilumos uždavinys. Pasitelkus harmoninių svyravimų uždavinį, gaunama disipacijos funkcija, kuri naudojama vidinės šilumos šaltiniams modeliuoti. Esant priverstiniams sijos svyravimams, plačiai nagrinėjamos amplitudės ir dažnio charakteristikos. Lyginamos temperatūros charakteristikos, atitinkančios pirmojo ir antrojo rezonanso formas.

Članek obravnava idejo harmonične družbe, ki tvori jedro aktualnih družbenih ideologij v L. R. Kitajski. V ta namen jo osvetli iz treh zornih kotov, namreč skozi analizo uradnih državnih, klasičnih in modernih konfucijanskih interpretacij koncepta harmonije (he 和, hexie 和諧). Avtorica ugotovi, da uradna interpretacija teoretikov L.R. Kitajske večinoma sloni na Xunzijevi (torej legalistično – avtokratski) nadgradnji tega koncepta, medtem ko sledijo tajvanski moderni konfucijanci v svojih interpretacijah predvsem mencijanski, na idejah človečnosti in enakovrednosti temelječi, idejni liniji klasičnega konfucijanstva.

W II Rzeczypospolitej wszystkie te środowiska podjęły dyskusję nad właściwym kierunkiem wychowania przyszłych pokoleń. Jednym z priorytetowych zadań była troska o właściwe wychowanie zdrowotne i fizyczne młodzieży.</p><p>W dyskurs o istotnej roli edukacji prozdrowotnej włączył się jezuita Stanisław Podoleński. Problematyka podjęta w artykule dotyczy jego poglądów na istotę wychowania zdrowotnego i fizycznego jako wyraz troski o harmonijne wychowanie młodych w II Rzeczypospolitej.</p><p>Stanisława Podoleńskiego należy zaliczyć do grona aktywnych i zaangażowanych w działalność edukacyjną pedagogów w II Rzeczypospolitej. Bliskie mu były problemy młodych ludzi. W swoich publikacjach podkreślał, że istnieje nierozerwalny związek pomiędzy wychowaniem fizycznym i zdrowotnym a duchowym i intelektualnym człowieka. Jego zdaniem troska o harmonijny rozwój wszystkich sfer młodego człowieka jest podstawowym obowiązkiem rodziców, wychowawców, a nawet całego społeczeństwa.</p>

Straipsnyje apžvelgiama žmogaus santykių su gamta istorija, plėtojama ekologinės etikos idėja apie žmogaus ir gamtos harmoniją. Teigiama, kad žmonijos istorijoje ši harmonija veikiau buvo tik tendencija, įsitvirtinusi paprastai ten, kur gyveno ne tokios gausios gentys, savo veikla naikinusios gamtą lėtai. Gyvulininkystės plėtra taip pat turėjo negatyvią ekologinę pusę. Ilgą laiką žemės ūkio gamyba buvo plėtojama nesuvokiant sudėtingų ekologinių ryšių bei ekologinės pusiausvyros dėsnių. Šiuolaikinės globalinės ekologinės krizės akivaizdoje ypač reikšmingos yra tos žmogaus elgesio ir mąstymo formos, kurios išreiškia sąmoningą siekimą paklusti gamtos dėsniams, įsikomponuoti į natūralius jos ciklus. Tokį siekį galima pavadinti ekologinio mąstymo stereotipu, kuris formavosi technogeninės civilizacijos raidoje ir kurį stimuliuoja suartėjimo su gamta vaizdinys. Ekologiškai mąstantis žmogus orientuojasi ne į kovą su gamta, o į dermę, harmoniją, santarvę su ja, su visa dirbtine aplinka ir pačiu savimi. Nagrinėjami šios harmonijos, kaip kultūros kategorijos, filosofiniai-ontologiniai parametrai.

Problem sedmog harmonika je tema kojoj su u glazbenoj teoriji 18. stoljeća pristupali s posebnim interesom. Dok su ga jedni potpuno ignorirali, drugi odbacivali, neki su autori izrazili stav prema kojem se septima bazirana na tom harmoniku smatra prijelaznim oblikom između konsonanci i disonanci, ili čak konsonancom. Giuseppe Michele Stratico u svom je glazbenom sustavu, razrađenom u više verzija njegovih rukopisnih traktata (sačuvanih u Biblioteci Marciana, Venezia I-Vnm), prihvatio sedmi harmonik kao dio konsonantnog sustava što je dalo osnovu za daljnju razradu sustava temeljenog na odnosima i proporcijama. U ovom radu dati će se pregled Straticovog rada na području glazbene teorije s posebnim osvrtom na problem sedmog harmonika, uspoređujući njegov stav o tom problemu s drugim značajnim teoretičarima 18. stoljeća. U prvom redu s teoretičarima padovanske škole, Giuseppeom Tartinijem, Straticovim učiteljem, te Francescantonijem Vallottijem, zatim matematičarem grofom Giordanom Riccatijem, te jednim od najvećih znanstvenika 18. stoljeća Leonhardom Eulerom.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose a novel serial structure repetitive control scheme for shunt active power filter (SAPF) to improve the steady-state accuracy and dynamic performance of SAPF. The novelty of this scheme lies in the reconfiguration of the pole of repetitive control internal model, so that the dynamic response of the repetitive control is improved greatly. Design/methodology/approach By analyzing the mathematical model of repetitive control, the repetitive control delay can reduce by giving up the needless poles of the internal model, and the general mk + i repetitive control can be designed through the pole configuration method. The controller can track a set of specific order harmonics. Findings The experimental results are coincident with the theoretical analyses, which prove the effectiveness of the proposed method on harmonic suppression and great performance in dynamic response. Practical implications An APF prototype has been designed with the serial structure repetitive control proposed in this paper, and it can successfully eliminate the harmonics current of nonlinear load with faster dynamic response. Moreover, the proposed controller can be applied to any three-phase system for fast dynamic response and high tracking accuracy. Originality/value In this paper, the mathematical model of the repetitive control for specific set of harmonica is developed. A novel serial structure repetitive control is designed, so that the SAPF can eliminate the fundamental reactive current and specific order harmonics and speed up the dynamic response of the repetitive control.

Lear Dreaming (2012) is an offspring of, and sequel to, the (in)famous multi-cultural pan-Asian collage Lear (1997), in which director and creator Ong Keng Sen employed a diversity of Asian performance traditions to reimagine and reconceive Shakespeare’s tragedy. The soundscape of Lear Dreaming reverberates with the (dis)harmonies and dissonance of electronic synth sounds, gamelan music, pipa songs and Korean jeongak; it places modernity, tradition, contemporaneity and custom in auditory confrontation. With only one actor surrounded by eight musicians, this acoustic interplay is further interjected with the oral patterns of Noh speech, the musicality of Mandarin Chinese and sonorities of Bahasa Indonesia. As a piece of postdramatic “music theatre”, I demonstrate how Lear Dreaming advances intercultural theatrical practice as a sonic performative. In its interplay of Asian performance cultures in/as sonic space, the production posits an alternative performative mode where the intercultural is the acoustic. This paper critically examines the acoustic strategy employed by Ong and analyses the soundscape of Lear Dreaming – the harmonies, harmonics, distortions and discordance – to consider issues of signification, representation, signifiance and the sublime in the performance of Asian inter-culturalisms.

In general, each light-colored system takes into account the peculiarities of perception and revailingthe stop-territorial spaces. In the article, each light-colored system is generalized to the case of the light-colored object-space environment of the LCOSE-system The latter, in turn, is a subsystem of the universal LCOSUE-system, when at least one parameter (for example, sound) of the universal space of sensations of the “average” person is added to the consideration of color and light. LCOSE-analysis allows to trace and adjust the light-colored solution of an object in the general structure of the environment at an early stage of design. It can be used in any illumination of the object (with modeling of different weather conditions) and its light color solution. It also allows you tointroduce avariant light color design of the object, including stops.The variant design is possible due to the introduction of the direct and the reverse Fourier transformationsystems in the LCOSE-system.This reproduces the light-color harmonics of the object, which decomposes its light-colored solution into light-colored components. In short, the object "sticks" with light spots. These "spots" harmonize (or do not harmonize -depending on the task) with the light-colored spots of the environment. In our view, such light-colored projecting of an object (in particular, stops) with "light-colored spots" should begin in the early stages of sketch design. This method of designing the object with "light spots"reminds very muchthe method of architectural design, when the design process begins not from the object itself, but by considering the access paths to that object.

Abstract:
The paper disccusses various models for discrete element methods of modelling particle shapes. The multi-sphere method is most frequently used, though a polyhedral approach and a hybrid sphero-polyhedral model can also be introduced. All above mentioned methods precisely approximate particle shapes, and difficulties in modelling contact between particles arise. Thus, there is a need to have an universal method that gives the analytical expression of the shape. For this purpose, spherical harmonics have been introduced. The article presents the concept of the spherical harmonics model and experimental results describing the cube-shape particle. Šiame straipsnyje aptariami įvairūs diskrečiųjų elementų metodo modeliai, taikomi dalelių formoms modeliuoti. Dažniausiai taikomas kelių sferų modelis, bet yra pristatyti ir daugiasienis modelis bei mišrus sferos daugiasienis modelis. Nors aptariami metodai neblogai apkroksimuoja dalelių formą, atsiranda sunkumų skaičiuojant dalelių kontaktą. Todėl reikalingas universalus metodas, leidžiantis gauti analitinę dalelės formos išraišką. Būtent tokiam tikslui naudojamos sferinės harmoninės funkcijos. Straipsnyje pristatomas sferinių funkcijų modelis bei pateikiami eksperimento rezultatai kubo formos dalelei aprašyti.
