ABSTRACT The observed time delays between photons with different circular polarizations from an astrophysical object provide a new, interesting way of testing the Einstein Equivalence Principle (EEP). In this paper, we constrain the EEP by considering both Shapiro time delay and Faraday rotation effects. We continue to search for astronomical sources that are suitable for testing the EEP accuracy, and obtain 60 extragalactic radio sources with multiwavelength polarization angles in three different radio bands (20, 8.6, and 4.8 GHz) and 29 brightest stars within our own Milky Way galaxy with mu

The evolutions of surface fronts of the simulated cyclone resemble the Shapiro–Keyser model. At the time of the maximum deepening rate, strong mesoscale diabatic heating areas appear over the bent-back front and the warm front east of the cyclone center. Diabatic heating over the

Harold Shapero’s Sonata for Trumpet in C and Piano is a significant work that it is rarely performed and studied. Shapero’s composition contains musical attributes that demand artistically accurate choices if the style of this jazz-influenced sonata is to be achieved. Written in 1940 in dedication to Aaron Copland, the Sonata for C Trumpet and Piano makes use of a variety of stylistic influences, blending those of early 20th century jazz with Stravinsky-influenced neo-classicism. Taking Italy and Poland as its main case studies, this book re-examines the major political and ideological confrontations that crossed Cold War Europe from the perspective of ordinary families and of those who sought to regulate the way in which they lived. Crossing the iron curtain, and looking at two countries hardly ever brought together in historical analysis, the book shows the extent to which the battle over the regulation of family and marriage shaped the social, political and cultural landscape of postwar Europe.

Instead, there are accounts of reasons as considerations favouring a certain response, and of other ways in which considerations can be relevant to that response. Everyone wants a good life. Some try to create a good life by cultivating personal growth. They have a transformative self. This book explains how people form a transformative self, primarily in their evolving life stories, to help cultivate growth toward a life of happiness, love, and wisdom for the self and others. It introduces an innovative framework of values and personhood to strengthen and integrate three main areas of study: narrative identity, the good life, and personal growth. The result is a unique model of humane growth and human flourishing. Each chapter builds on that framework

This chapter reviews the kinds of narratives discussed in the book: immigration narratives, narratives about making home, and a recitation of the Sundarkāṇḍ. These narrative performances together demonstrate the means by which members of the Hindu transnational community imagine and enact their experiences: shaping identities, creating homes, and establishing religious communities and practices. Religion here is shaped in this process—changing and shifting as the narratives are performed. Shifting attention to the second generation, it is hard to predict how transnational Hinduism will continue to change, but it is clear that transnationalism will continue to shape Hinduism in India and abroad for the foreseeable future.

This chapter examines the intersection of the domestic and international developments that shaped the creation of black-led movements that looked beyond the borders of the United States for support and legitimacy in the 1960s. By the mid-1960s, the notion that black Americans should seek solidarity with the Third World rather than looking to Washington for help had attracted advocates ranging from Williams to Malcolm X, Lorraine Hansberry, Amiri Baraka, Vicki Garvin, Harold Cruse, and groups such as the Revolutionary Action Movement (RAM). The successes—and failures—of these pioneering figures helped pave the way for a new generation of activists, including key figures in the birth and development of the Black Panther Party.

This chapter examines the implications of the absence of any record of direct contact between William and Edward the Confessor after the autumn of 1052 until Harold II's visit to Normandy in 1064. It explores the political undercurrents that might have been taking shape during this period and what William's preoccupations might have been as tensions lingered over the succession question in England. The chapter asserts that these years must have been the time when he made the reputation on which the massive support he received in 1066 was founded. Alongside the deaths of the two northern French rulers most obviously capable of restraining him, this period also marked further developments in William's political trajectory which helped to further cement his reputation during the 1060s and beyond.

The approach divides shapes into hierarchies of subshapes based on specified geometric relationships within the shape.
