Abstract:
A growing body of literature presenting the results of research regarding text book illustrations indicates that visual gender bias is obvious in several acade mic fields, including business communication. To date, however, no study has extended those observations to clip art files in popular computer programs. The current study examines over 14,000 clip art images for gender bias from six different Windows-based programs: WordPerfect Presentations, PowerPoint 4.0, Microsoft Publisher 2.0, Harvard Graphics 3.0, Power Up!, and Corel 3.0, CD-ROM. Tabulations indicate that only 4.54% of total images depict women and that they are typically presented in stereotypical roles, such as secretaries, nurses, teachers. Reasons include a male bias in the computer science field (a 3:1 ratio in programming), apparent gender-based differences in relationships with machines, and a societal gap in traruitioning between old and new media.

Kreiner, Barrett. "Issues of implementing X windows on a non-X windows device." Virtual Press, 1991. http://liblink.bsu.edu/uhtbin/catkey/770950.

Abstract:
X windows is a graphic display management system. It is designed to work on a variety of machines and display adapters, however it is not designed for terminals with local graphics capabilities. X windows can be made to work on this type of terminal, although in a slower and restricted form. The problem with designing a variation of X for these terminals is the translation from X requests to native graphics commands, and the mapping of terminal input into X events. These implementation issues are discussed and example code is provided.<br>Department of Computer Science

Abstract:
Automated warehouses are frequently used within the industry. SQL databases are often used for storing various kinds of information about stored items, including their physical positions in the warehouse with respect to X, Y and Z positions. Benefits of this includes savings in working time, optimization of storage capability and – most of all – increased employee safety. IT services company Sogeti’s office in Karlstad has been looking into a project on behalf of one of their customers to implement this kind of automated warehouse. In the pilot study of this project, ideas of a three-dimensional graphic visualization of the warehouse and its stored contents have come up. This kind of tool would give a warehouse operator a clear overview of what is currently in store, as well as quick access to various pieces of information about each and every item in store. Also, in a wider perspective, other types of warehouses and storage areas could benefit from this kind of tool. During the course of this project, a graphical visualization tool for this purpose was developed, resulting in a product that met a significant part of the initial requirements.

Abstract:
The paper presents an improvement of Monte-Carlo ray tracing which changes ray emission from a light source to accelerate convergence i.e. reduce the noise remained after the given run time. It is mainly intended for interior scenes illuminated from outside (e.g. skylight) through windows or other holes. The rays from light sources are generated so that they are directed to these windows. In other words, the number of rays is increased for directions that contribute to the camera image. It is shown that the proposed method allows calculating image with desirable quality several times faster.

Abstract:
Elaboration of modern airplane cockpit has tendency to use large displays instead of a lot of separate indicators. The large display should combine information about flight navigation and state of plane equipment. Information coming from a wide variety of devices should be displayed simultaneously. Therefore multi-windows rendering is vitally important here. Its implementation must be embedded in real-time operating system which controls the aircraft. Development of a Safety Critical Compositor for multi-windows rendering for OpenGL SC 1.0.1 software is considered in the paper. It works under the real-time operating system JetOS newly designed for aircraft. Development is based on the use of extensions designed to work in multi-core systems in addition to standard JetOS partitioning services.
