Abstract:
Currently, the business models, value and production processes in the construction industry are experiencing major changes due to demographic, technological, social and economic developments. This paper analyzes the conflict, in which the construction industry is, between the need to meet the various customer requirements flexibly and to cope with the resulting product and process complexity while having to simultaneously meet cost, quality and time pressures. A promising and novel approach for the construction industry is the industrialization of the construction process in the form of a modular building concept in conjunction with Building Information Modeling (BIM). In this, individual elements (such as a complete space module) are pre-produced in an industrial environment in a space separate from the actual construction site and then assembled on site. The paper identifies the organizational challenges of the modular home construction and introduces coping approaches and perspectives for research and practice. Abstract:

Abstract:
Part and parcel of the conventional wisdom about rural publics in Africa is that populations on the periphery will accord ethnic solidarity greater significance than national consciousness. A survey of neighboring Hausa villages on different sides of the Niger-Nigeria boundary counters this myth. Probing issues of self-identity and ethnic affinity, we found that most Hausa villagers on the frontier did not place their Hausan ethnic identity above their national one as citizens of Nigeria or Niger and expressed greater affinity for non-Hausa cocitizens than for foreign Hausas. However, expressed attachments to ethnic, national, and other social identifications (such as religion) varied according to village: citizenship does make a difference in the political consciousness of villagers on the geographic margins of the state. More survey research in other transborder regions should shed further light on processes of state penetration and national integration in developing countries.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The following description of Hausa is based on the variety of the language spoken in Kano, Nigeria. The sample text is transcribed from a recording of a male native of Kano in his late 30's. This variety of Hausa is considered “standard”. Though Kano is a large urban center with some internal variation in speech, the sound inventory is relatively homogeneous within the city and surrounding area. Kano Hausa is the variety most commonly heard on national and regional radio and television broadcasts in Nigeria as well as most international broadcasting, such as the BBC, Deutsche Welle, Radio Moscow, and Voice of America. Kano Hausa is therefore familiar throughout the Hausa speaking areas of Nigeria as well as Hausa speaking communities in Niger, Ghana, and other areas outside northern Nigeria. Hausa has a standard orthography, in use since the 1930's and also based on the Kano variety. It is familiar to all Hausa speakers literate in the Romanized orthography. (Many Hausas are also literate in Arabic orthography, a variety of which has been used to write Hausa, probably for several centuries. The Arabic orthography for Hausa is less standardized than the Roman orthography and has little formally published literature.)

Abstract:
Dermatoglyphic features due to its permanency, genetic influence as well as number of easily observable and measurable characters may be considered one of the most suitable parameters for population variability and have been used extensively to characterize and differentiate human populations, hence, are highly suitable for studying population variation. The aim of the study is to analyze palm prints (palm creases) among Hausas of Kano and Zaria. A total of 600 subjects comprising of 300 participants from two original Hausa metropolis (Kano and Zaria) with 1:1 male to female ratio participated. Ink method was used to capture palm prints. Chi-square was used to determine the association between the variables. The frequency distribution of palmer creases showed that in the right hand only normal creases tend to occur higher in female (203 vs 172) the two metropolis combined. Similar pattern occurs, when the two metropolis were considered separately (Kano = 97 vs 75, Zaria = 106 vs 97). The same pattern of frequency distribution of palmer creases was observed in the left hand. A statistically significant gender differences (χ2 = -2.91, P = 0.004 for right hand, and χ2 = -3.89, P < 0.001 for left hand) in the frequency distribution of type of palmer creases were noticed among the Hausa ethnic groups (both Kano and Zaria combined). However, when the two Hausa metropolis were separated, differences (χ2 = -2.71, P = 0.007 for right hand, and χ2 = -4.66, P < 0.001 for left hand) were only noticed among the Hausas of Kano metropolis. The result of the study showed that a significant gender differences in the mean value were observed in the atd and dat angles in both cities and Hausas of Kano (t=-2.97, p <0.05 for atd, t= 2.59, P< 0.05 for dat) with no significance in the Hausas of Zaria in right hand. However, a statistical significant difference was present in the atd and adt angles in both cities and Hausas of Kano (t=-4.99, p <0.001 for atd, t= 5.09, p< 0.001 for adt). For the Hausas of Zaria only the atd (t=-3.30, p <0.05 for atd) angle shows significant difference. For comparison based on sex, no significant differences was observed between males from Kano and Zaria, and females from Kano and Zaria with respects to dat and adt angles of right palmer triradii. However, a significant difference was observed between Kano and Zaria males with respects to dat and adt angles of palmer triradii respectively.

Abstract:
The material under review comprises two texts of dramatic narratives in Hausa by one “Hajj Ahmed” (henceforth Haji Ahmadu) Kano, who was based in Tunis. The narration was done in 1902, and the story was about the trans-Saharan journey of another Bakano or Kano citizen, from Tripoli to Kano. This traveler was a merchant called Muhammadu Agigi. Haji Ahmadu's narratives were done at the instance of a German scholar and traveler, Rudolf Prietze, who specified the form, which was dialogue, the narration should take. Prietze subsequently had the recorded material annotated, translated, edited and published. Prietze's article appeared under the general title “Wüstenreise des Haussa-Händlers Mohammed Agigi” (“The Journey of the Hausa Trader Muhammadu Agigi Through the Desert”) with the sub-title “Gespräche eines Kaufherrn auf der Reise nach Kano” (“Conversations of a Merchant En Route to Kano”), and was published in two parts (“Von Ghadames nach Rhat [Ghat]” and “Gespräche in Rhat”) in Mittheilungen des Seminars für Orientalische Sprachen zu Berlin (1924), 1-36,175-246.

Abstract:
Abstract: Since the early ages of modern socialization amongst the Hausas, i.e. learning to read and write, poetry had been a good instrument used in educating, enlightening, orienting and passing across important messages among host of related others. Most of the early Hausa poet were knowledgeable, who had sound experience of the national affairs. They were also critical thinkers, so skeptical about the present and zealous of foreshadowing the future. They sometimes warned humanity on the dangers they forecasted, urging peoples to change attitudes for better. Against this background, this paper traces a number prophesies made by some Hausa poets, which have turned realistic. The poet forecasts some disastrous outcomes to loom Northern Nigeria, shall the Northerners dare not to cease certain attitudes and some bad practices. This paper traces the instances of such prophesies made by poets, which are obviously realistic today. The study is limited to three selected poems viz: AJM, TSW and MAHRƘW. However, the study found that, a number of prophesies made by the selected Hausa poets in forms of warning and or alarms have been realized. Finally, the paper tabled some suggestion among which one is, that reading and listening to poems should aimed beyond mere passion of its tranquil nature. There teachings should rather be carefully studies and fittingly utilized.

Professor Hausman has written an interesting and instructive book. Though I am by no means favourably disposed to methodology for economists, (its results seem to have been pretty disastrous), I found reading Hausman enjoyable and I came away having learned things worth learning. There are also important questions where one would have expected philosophic help which are not asked at all.

Abstract:
Abstract Ageism is on the rise in Nigeria. Recently congress passed a bill on “not too young to rule” a campaign to advocate for younger Nigerians to take over leadership positions from older political officeholders. This paper focuses on ethnic differences among Nigerians who think older adults are a burden on society. Our sample included 1,693 randomly selected Nigerians (18 yrs-59yrs) who were in wave six of the world values survey conducted in 2012 comprising of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria; Hausa (33%), Igbo (24%), and Yoruba (25%). Using multivariate logistic regression, results show that among the Hausas; life satisfaction, education, employment, gender, income, and geography predict bias towards older adults (OR=1.12*,.89*,.61*,.63*,1.12*,.74***) respectively. Among the Igbos; only education predicts bias towards older adults (OR=.75***). Among the Yorubas; income and geography predict bias towards older adults (OR=.86*, 1.20*) respectively. These findings underscore that several individual resources, as well as relationship status, are associated with a bias towards the elderly in Nigeria. The results reinforce the idea that the underlying causes of ageism might be structural such as political failure, poverty, illiteracy, and rurality. To change how younger generations, think of older adults, macro-level interventions and policies need to be implemented.

Abstract:
In a linear-regression model with heteroscedastic errors, we consider two tests: a Hausman test comparing the ordinary least squares (OLS) and least absolute error (LAE) estimators and a test based on the signs of the errors from OLS. It turns out that these are related by the well-known equivalence between Hausman and the generalized method of moments tests. Particular cases, including homoscedasticity and asymmetry in the errors, are discussed.

Abstract:
We present further results of our model of the interstellar medium in spiral galaxies (Roberts and Hausman, 1983; Hausman and Roberts, 1983). The ISM is simulated by a system of particles, representing gas clouds, which orbit ballistically in a spiral-perturbed galactic gravitational field, collide inelastically with one another, and receive velocity impulses from expanding supernova remnants. Star formation may be triggered in the clouds by either collisions or SNR interactions.

Abstract:
The paper examined the role of transportation network in the integration of Yoruba-Hausa ethnic nationalities in Funtua Town of Katsina State. The study was inspired by agitations being made by some notable Nigerians about the possibilities of disintegration of Nigeria as corporate national entity along the lines of ethnic nationalities. This notion is often propelled by sporadic ethnic and tribal disturbances that occur in the country. However, the cordial relationship that exists in Funtua town between the Yorubas from southwestern axis of Nigeria and the indigenous Hausas cast doubt to such divisive agitations. The data obtained for this study was principally from primary source, which included discussions, in-depth face-to-face interviews, key informant and physical observational techniques. Reasons for the mixing of the two distinct ethnic groups have been investigated and discussed. The study found out that Yorubas migrated during the pre-colonial, from majorly Ogbomosho, Saki and Lagos areas, and founded Funtua at Ile Amodu and Ile Akile clans. The process continued, where Ile Ogbomoso, Ile Amodu and Ile Akile clan were established during the pre-colonial period, when the creation of rail and road networks facilitated the migration and acculturation processes, as Funtua town was linked with the Yorubaland. While, other factors related to costume and beliefs play vital role in strengthening the mutual bond between the two distinct ethnic groups into indivisible one
