Although Bifidobacterium bifidum expresses lactase activity, no clinical trials have determined its impact on lactose-intolerant subjects. This study evaluated whether acute and chronic ingestion of ice creams containing B. bifidum 900791 at high (107 CFU/g) or low (105 CFU/g) concentrations improved lactose tolerance in hypolactasic subjects. AbstractLarge quantities of HBCD-containing Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) had been used in External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS) from the 1970s until the flame retardant HBCD was banned in 2016 for being a persistent organic pollutant (POP). According to the Basel Convention, a solvent-based process is the best available technology for POP-containing waste. Such processes are subject to an impurity limit, thus requiring a pre-treatment of the input material. Therefore, a sequence of comminution and sorting technologies was designed and tested with real-life ETICS demolition waste.

Low-temperature (15 K) photoluminescence (PL) in molecular-beam epitaxy-grown AlGaAs/GaAs heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) has been studied. Both cw and pulsed lasers were used as excitation sources. These HBT samples are heavily doped with Si and Be in the n+-GaAs and p+-GaAs layers, respectively. The origin of each PL signal is identified by removing each layer. Three PL peaks from the n-AlGaAs layer were observed.
