Abstract:
Pseudolite deployment is the premise of ground-based pseudolite system networking, which affects the coverage and positioning accuracy of ground-based pseudolite systems. Optimal deployment algorithms can help to achieve a higher signal coverage and lower mean horizontal precision factor (HDOP) with a limited number of pseudolites. In this paper, we proposed a multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm for the deployment of a ground-based pseudolite system. The new algorithm combines Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data and uses the mean HDOP of the DEM grid to measure the geometry of the pseudolite system. The signal coverage of the pseudolite system was calculated based on the visual area analysis with respect to reference planes, which effectively avoids the repeated calculation of the intersection and improves the calculation efficiency. A selected area covering 10 km×10 km in the Jiuzhaigou area of China was used to verify the new algorithm. The results showed that both the coverage and HDOP achieved were optimal using the new algorithm, where the coverage area can be up to approximately 50% and 30% more than using the existing particle swarm optimization (PSO) and convex polyhedron volume optimization (CPVO) algorithms, respectively.

Abstract:
Computing the homography matrix using the known matching points is a key step in computer vision for image registration. In practice, the number, accuracy, and distribution of the known matching points can affect the uncertainty of the homography matrix. This study mainly focuses on the effect of matching point distribution on image registration. First, horizontal dilution of precision (HDOP) is derived to measure the influence of the distribution of known points on fixed point position accuracy on the image. The quantization function, which is the average of the center points’ HDOP* of the overlapping region, is then constructed to measure the uncertainty of matching distribution. Finally, the experiments in the field of image registration are performed to verify the proposed function. We test the consistency of the relationship between the proposed function and the average of symmetric transfer errors. Consequently, the proposed function is appropriate for measuring the uncertainty of matching point distribution on image registration.

Abstract:
Global Positioning System (GPS) is a very popular outdoor positioning system. Due to the satellites’ errors signal, the Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers determine the accuracy of a current location with about 100 meters in latitude and 156 meters in longitude. In this few years, the technology on autonomous vehicles is rising. Autonomous vehicles need to navigate with high positioning accuracy for preventing any potential danger to road user. So in this paper, Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) experiment will be introduced for improve the positioning accuracy. Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) operations compose of Reference Station and Rover Station. Both of the station will use the GPS receiver for receiving the positioning data from GPS satellites and the positioning data collected from Reference Station will be used to calculate the positioning errors and the errors correction will then be transferred to Rover Station to improve the positioning accuracy. The results obtained will be discussed based on the average and range of errors in both latitude and longitude, number of satellites detected, Horizontal Dilution of Precision (HDOP), Vertical Dilution of Precision (VDOP) and the improvement on Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) at the same time in different day. In four days’ results, it can be seen that the number of satellites detected will be affected by the Horizontal Dilution of Precision (HDOP) and Vertical Dilution of Precision (VDOP) which cause the positioning errors in latitude and longtitude. The average of positioning errors range between -4.165m and 2.925m in latitude and -0.618m and 1.998m in longitude.

Abstract:
The positioning accuracy of a ground-based system in an indoor environment is closely related to the geometric configuration of pseudolites. This paper presents a simple closed-form equation for computing the weighted horizontal dilution of precision (WHDOP) with four eigenvalues, which can reduce the amount of calculation. By comparing the result of WHDOP with traditional matrix inversion operation, the effectiveness of WHDOP of the proposed simple calculation method is analyzed. The proposed WHDOP has a linear relationship with the actual static positioning result error in an indoor environment proved by the Pearson analysis method. Twenty positioning points are randomly selected, and the positioning variance and WHDOP of each positioning point have been calculated. The correlation coefficient of WHDOP and the positioning variance is calculated to be 0.82. A pseudolite system layout method based on a simulated annealing algorithm is proposed by using WHDOP, instead of Geometric dilution of precision (GDOP). In this paper, the constraints of time synchronization are discussed. In wireless connection system, the distance between master station and slave station should be kept within a certain range. Specifically, for a given indoor scene, many positioning target points are randomly generated in this area by using the Monte Carlo method. The mean WHDOP value of all positioning points corresponding to the synchronous pseudolite layout is used as the objective function. The results of brute force search are compared with the method, which proves the accuracy of the new algorithm.

Abstract:
Applying the same principle behind the Ad-hoc weighing used in fusing data from two inexpensive GPS and an electronic compass (EC) brought up the problem of numerous conditions when trying to fuse data from three GPS devices. Fusing data from two GPS and one EC required at least thirty-two (32) conditions while using three GPS would require 182 conditions that would have entailed a complex set of programming codes. Fuzzy logic was explored as a possible candidate to replace the hard-coding of if-then-statements but still perform the ad-hoc algorithm as desired. The GPS Fix and HDOP (horizontal dilution of precision) values are utilized to derive the corresponding weight to be assigned to the individual GPS as well as the overall fused GPS data. Experimental tests using actual GPS data showed the effectivity of the proposed method.

Abstract:
SummaryRobust positioning and navigation of a mobile robot in an urban environment is implemented by fusing the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) data with the aid of a motion estimator. To select and isolate malicious satellite signals and guarantee the minimum number of GPS signals for the localization, an enhanced fault detection and isolation (FDI) algorithm with a short-term memory has been developed in this research. When there are sufficient satellite signals for positioning, the horizontal dilution of precision (HDOP) has been applied for selecting the best four satellite signals to localize the mobile robot. Then, the GPS data are fused with INS data by a Kalman filter (KF) for a straight path and a curved motion estimator (CME) for a curved path. That is, the INS data are properly fused to the GPS data through the KF or CME process. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, experiments using a mobile robot have been carried out on a university campus.

Abstract:
Introduction: The emergence of antibiotic resistance has led to the continuing search for discovery of effective antibiotics. Host defence peptides (HDPs) confer defence mechanisms against infection and investigation of their specific roles and interplays are ongoing. Among the HDPs, defensins are a group of effector molecules which plays important roles in humans. Although several stereotypes of human beta defensins (hBDs) such as the hBD1-3 are well studied, other members including the human beta defensin 9 (hBD9), are not entirely known. Understanding the properties of these HDPs will enable us to discover a safe and efficacious, broad-spectrum and resistance-free antibiotic for therapeutic application in the future. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to clone the DEFB109 gene, express and purify the hBD9 propeptide, before determining the hBD9 propeptide antimicrobial property using a recombinant system in Escherichia coli. Methods: The second exon of the DEFB109 was amplified through reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and inserted into selected plasmid vectors. The recombinant plasmid construct was cloned, and transformed into E coli expression host. The correctly transformed colonies were selected before the plasmid constructs were purified and verified through nucleotide sequencing. Expression and purification of the hBD9 propeptide were carried out and antimicrobial property of the peptide was investigated. Result: HBD9 fusion protein was successfully expressed and purified. It was shown to have antimicrobial efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The effect of the free hBD9 propeptide against wider spectrum of organisms needs to be studied in the future.

Abstract:
A novel sheet metal forming technology based on aspects of both warm forming and superplastic forming has recently been developed. The new forming process, referred to as hot draw mechanical preforming (HDMP), uses two sequential steps to form a panel within a single tool at elevated temperature. In the first step, the cushion system acts on a binder and upper die to draw the blank over a punch which serves to draw in metal from the perimeter of the blank. In the second step gas pressure is applied to finish the panel details. This two step process of drawing in metal followed by gas forming can result in a significant expansion of the forming envelope for conventional AA5xxx series aluminum sheet alloys commonly used within the automotive industry. Similar to SPF, the HDMP process is performed within a single forming press equipped with heated platens and using gas pressure to shape the component during elevated temperature forming. However, the HDMP process utilizes a blankholder to control the flow of material into the forming cavity during the drawing stage and therefore requires the addition of an integrated cushion system in the bed of the press. HDMP dies are of interest in automotive applications because they maintain the low-investment attributes of SPF tooling while also significantly reducing the forming time as compared to conventional SPF. This work details the CAE based design of an HDMP die to form a one-piece aluminum door inner that can not be formed with conventionally forming processes. Critical aspects addressed in the development of the die include manufacturing targets, part design for manufacturing, and die design for operation at elevated temperature.

Abstract:
HDP-CVD reactors are used for Shallow Trench Isolation (STI), Inter Metal Dielectric (IMD) and Inter Layer Dielectric (ILD) applications for logic and memory device fabrication. As device dimension shrinks, the trend has been to use lower pressure and higher plasma density for gap-fill with higher aspect ratio (AR). Higher AR gapfill in addition to higher throughput is achieved by running multiple wafers between a chamber clean, present a unique set of challenges for heat and mass-transfer in an HDP-CVD reactor. This paper describes some of the new state-of-the-art hardware innovations specifically developed to meet these challenges. In particular, heat transfer to plasma facing materials, fluid mechanics, and transport of sub-micron sized particles in the plasma environment of an HDP-CVD reactor are explored.

Abstract:
A number of pathways for producing new alternative fuels are emerging. One such fuel is Hydrodeoxygenated Synthesized Aromatic Kerosene (HDO-SAK) which is composed of approximately 95% mono-aromatic compounds. This fuel is intended as a blending component to increase the aromatic content of other synthetic fuels that do not contain aromatic compounds and can be used to create either semi-synthetic or fully-synthetic jet fuel for use in aviation. This paper presents the results of engine tests using the HDO-SAK blended with Synthesized Paraffinic Kerosene from Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA-SPK) to create a fully-synthetic fuel with aromatic content that matched that of a comparison conventional jet fuel. Both the HDO-SAK blended fuel and conventional Jet A were tested in a Microturbo TRS-18 turbojet engine at a range of engine conditions and simulated altitudes up to 8,600 m in the National Research Council Canada (NRC) Research Altitude Test Facility (RATFac). This paper details the engine performance results from this testing which represents the first time this particular alternative fuel has been tested in an engine.

Abstract:
Abstract Hydrocarbon dew point (HDP) temperature is defined as the temperature at which the first hydrocarbon liquid begins to condense in a natural gas cooled at constant pressure, which is an important qualitative parameter for pipeline operators. Hydrocarbon liquid drops-out along the gas pipeline will decrease the effective cross-sectional area of the pipes causing increased pressure drop, reduced line capacity as well as system shutdowns. It is therefore imperative that the gas pipelines be operated above the hydrocarbon dew point (HDP) temperature to ensure a trouble free line; this of course requires the knowledge of the HDP for the pipeline. In this work, onsite measurement of the HDP of 5 different natural gases from different flow stations and gas processing plants in the Niger-Delta region was done using an automatic optical condensation dew point meter. Subsequently, each of the gases was collected in stainless steel Proserv bottles and taken to the laboratory for compositional analysis using gas chromatographic technique with reference to GPA 2286. In addition, the Peng Robinson (PR) and Soave Redlich Kwong (SRK) Equations of state (EOS) were used to predict the hydrocarbon dew point temperature of the gases at the flow line pressures. The Average Absolute Error (AAE) for EOS PR was 9.33% while that for EOS SRK was 14.68%. Obviously, it showed that PR EOS gave better predictions than SRK EOS. The result of this work also showed that even a 50% variation in molar contributions of the non-hydrocarbon components had negligible effects on the predicted hydrocarbon dew point temperatures for all the gas samples tested.
