Abstract:
Background Australia is a multi-cultural society with increasing rates of people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. On average, CALD groups have higher rates of tobacco use, lower participation in cancer screening programs, and poorer health outcomes than the general Australian population. Lower cancer screening and smoking cessation rates are due to differing cultural norms, health-related attitudes, and beliefs, and language barriers. Interventions can help address these potential barriers and increase tobacco cessation and cancer screening rates among CALD groups

Abstract:
Background Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is highly prevalent among patients with severe mental illness (SMI), primarily due to antipsychotic medication use. This Quality Improvement (QI) project aimed to enhance MetS screening and referral practices among mental health staff through an educational intervention. The objectives were to achieve a 10% increase in MetS documentation, engage at least 50% of staff in the educational sessions, and increase referrals by 10% for at-risk patients. Methods The project was guided by evidence from literature demonstrating the impact of educational interventions

This Evidence Snapshot, commissioned by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, identifies evaluated interventions targeting lifestyle risks and behaviours that reduce the risk of chronic disease for adults with disability. A range of intervention strategies were found, focusing on different risks. This paper summarizes a randomized experiment to study the effects of an Internet-based intervention on type 2 diabetes patients in Montevideo, Uruguay. A specially designed website and electronic social network allowed participants to navigate freely, download materials, and interact with other diabetics and specialists. No significant impact was found on participants' knowledge, behavior, or health outcomes. Only a minority of patients logged on to the website, and most were only reached by email and mobile text (SMS). Patients' gender, marital status, and education influenced their particip
