Abstract:
European and Italian dairy goat farming has increasingly turned towards organic method. This production system aims at ensuring high levels of animal health and welfare, by reducing the use of allophatic medicine and creating well-balanced agro-ecosystems. Despite the growing importance of organic farming, researches on this field are still relatively limited, in particular with respect to the evaluation of animal welfare in organic goats. New research would contribute to improve organic goat husbandry as well as to fulfil consumers’ demand. This thesis investigates two fundamental health an

Organic labeling organizations like KRAV have an important role to play in affecting consumer purchasing decisions as well as producer crop cultivation behaviours. With soil health becoming an ever increasing concern, and soil so central to the catalysing cycles of carbon, nutrients, and energy in the ecosphere, sustainable development could benefit from understanding better the relationship of organic labelling organizations to soil. Farm-related fatalities are a significant problem in Australian agriculture. Over the period 2001–04, there were 404 fatalities that occurred as a direct consequence of visiting, residing or working on a farm. Despite of their great impact on animal welfare and on farm incomes, morbidity and mortality rates of dairy replacement animals are often underestimated by dairy farmers. The highest risk of morbidity and mortality is usually recorded within the first months of the calf life. Because calves are born nearly deprived of antibodies, they strictly depend on colostrum ingestion to acquire the immune protection against infectious pathogens. Improper colostrum provision could lead to failure of transfer of passive immunity (FTPI), which is recognized to be the first relevant factor that affect calf h
