Abstract:
Stronger financial pressures are currently challenging previously unopposed ways of directing work within professional organizations, where strong groups characterized by power, prestige and autonomy play a major role. As a result of increased scrutiny of professions from the outside, resistance to change emerges in these settings. Earlier applied frameworks for understanding change mechanisms in a professional setting are however rather limited in their understanding of how change dynamically occurs. By designing a novel, more dynamic framework for organizational change, we aim in this thesis

This thesis theorizes and investigates Reflexive Networking, an innovative conceptual model for online healthcare continuing professional development (CPD) to improve impact on practice and patient care. Recently, financial pressures and the rise of the Internet have triggered a massive growth in online CPD globally. This shift assumes that online CPD causes behavior change and improves practice and care. Normative research on the impact of online CPD has mostly been in the form of positivist or realistic experiments. The evidence shows, however, that current online CPD models are failing. Bec

Current UK abortion law has been subjected to extensive feminist critique because of the relationships that it constructs between healthcare professionals (HCPs) and women with unwanted pregnancies. The law allows HCPs to opt out of abortion provision on the grounds of conscience, implying that it is not something which they have an automatic duty to provide to their patients. It also gives doctors the authority to decide whether an abortion can legally take place, thus suggesting that women’s reproductive decisions should be regulated by medical ‘experts’.
