Full textChildhood’s overweight and obesity are a worrying issue in the world nowadays. The purpose of this study was to provide contributions to the promotion of healthy food by analyzing the impact of physical activity, parents’ influence and home meals frequency on children’s food choices. Structured questionnaires were used and were answered by 172 children between 10 and 14 years old and by their respective parents. Children and parents preferred healthy food vs. non-healthy food presenting the children’s healthy food choices a mean of 4.26 and the parent’s healthy food choices a mean of 4.47 in a scale ranging from 0 to 6. Our results also show that physical activity, parent’s education and home meals frequency did not have an impact on children’s food choices, contrasting to the sedentary behavior and parents’ choices which had a negative and positive correlation, respectively, with children’s food choices. Taking these results into account and using them to advise parents and companies, we underline that parents must guarantee an adequate children’s nutrition after doing physical efforts and control the time children watch TV and play computer games and companies may create marketing campaigns and educational programs in order to promote healthy food, improve children’s eating habits and reduce the childhood obesity prevalence.

Full textThis research aims to investigate the effects of food advergaming on children’s eating habits. A total of 231 elementary school-age children were randomly assigned to one of the following two conditions: (i) play the healthy advergame; (ii) play the less healthy advergame. A pos-treatment pictured questionnaire was used to assess their behavior in terms of immediate food choice, food liking, and nutritional knowledge. Results showed that children tend to choose a snack accordingly to what was being advertised in the game. In terms of food liking, children who played the less healthy version of the game reported a higher preference for some of the less healthy options. Regarding nutritional knowledge no differences were registered which leads us to conclude that they already have a solid understanding of what are “good” and “bad” foods for their health. These findings have important legal, educational, management and social marketing contributions.

Full textToy premiums, as well as other marketing tools, can be used to promote healthy eating habits on children. As children grow, their appreciation for healthy meals and toys decreases, however their enjoyment for collections increases. Thus, we would expect toy premiums to be ineffective or effective but to a lower extent on promoting healthy eating behaviors as children grow old. The study consisted on presenting children with one of three conditions: see an image of healthy food; see an image of a toy premium (non-collectible, collectible or superfluous collectible); or see a picture of healthy food paired with a toy premium. Afterwards, we measured children’s attitudes towards healthy food and toy premiums and their purchase intention of the healthy meal. As a result, pairing healthy food with toy premiums was not effective on promoting healthy eating behaviors, being the main reason the initial high attitude towards healthy. Additionally, no relevant differences on attitudes between younger and older children were found.

Full textThe subject of this Master degree paper is „Education of healthy lifestyle habits and the rote of advertising”. Statistical data of health demonstrate the worsening state of people’s health usually do not have healthy lifestyle habits: the majority of people do not choose healthy food. Another bad thing is that owing to modern technologies people spend the biggest part of their lives in a practically passive way (i.e. do not move much) and additions spread fast among children and teenagers. One of the most important external factors, that plays an important role in the formation or bad habits is advertising. There is no exhaustive analysis so far about the effect of advertising on children and teenagers and that is why the problem is so acute. The aim of this thesis is to collect information about healthy lifestyle habits, how they could be developed and the role of advertising. Healthy life style is a very important factor for a person’s health. It is predetermined by the individual’s reasoned attitude to this behavior: healthy nutrition, refusing addictions and physical activity. That is why the development of healthy lifestyle habits is the subject of primary importance and young people should be informed about it at schools and other places of social gathering. Advertising is a common phenomen in our daily life and it continually influences consumers and their choice. In order to find out healthy lifestyle habits among schoolchildren and students and how advertising... [to full text]

Full textLunch boxes "Biokids" is a project for school children, contributing to their academic and physical performance through our healthy, nutritious and delicious products. This proposal is based on the need of parents to offer a healthy lunch box for their children, because they spend most of their time at school and many of this schools do not offer them nutritional alternatives in their establishments. Additionally, the percentage of working parents is increasing, which often limits the preparation of a correct lunch box for their children. In the course of this project, the National Health Emergency began due to the spread of the SARS-COV2 virus worldwide, for this reason the project had to take a turn and develop a new brand, since it was not hold face-to-face classes throughout the year. That’s how, “Biofit Boxes” was born, as a biodegradable box containing healthy, nutritious and high-quality products. It is a product with a larger target audience and favor the increase in the financial statements and sustainability of the company. To implement this project we require a total investment of S/32,903.00 Soles, of which 50% will be financed by a financial institution and the other 50% will be from the participation of the shareholders. We have a good financial projection in the years following to the investment, so we consider the realization of the project is viable. "Lunch boxes Biokids" and “Biofit Boxes” will contribute to the improvement of the eating habits of children, youth and adults in the city of Metropolitan Lima and reduce the percentage of obesity, overweight, and others.

The problem solving educational action focused on the principles of Paulo Freire - dialogue, awareness and empowerment - provides the search for strategies aimed at promoting healthy eating habits among adolescents and consequently the transformation of their reality in order to contribute to the reduction of risk factors to the development of chronic degenerative diseases. This study aimed to uncover the meanings of adolescents for the construction and implementation of a collective plan of action aimed at raising awareness of healthy eating habits. The place chosen to accomplish this was a public school in the municipality of Vitoria Santo Antão - PE. Participated in adolescents 11 to 17 years, duly enrolled in primary II and of both sexes. The methodology used was action research, anchored in elected assumptions of Paulo Freire, which has four phases. The first stage, exploratory or diagnostic, sought to grasp the meanings of eating practices perceived by adolescents and build collectively, a plan of action to raise awareness of healthier eating habits, based on the adolescents' critical reflection of their reality. Of the 39 adolescents who have shown interest in participating, 27 adolescents were divided into three groups by age group, composed of 7 to 12 individuals. For each of them held a focus group session in which the discussions led to the collective action plan. In the second phase of the in-depth research, the data collected in the focus groups was evaluated by analysis of the Collective Subject Discourse. Then gathered the representatives of each group, three in number, to present these results and determine the period, schedule, goals, techniques to be used in each educational workshop. The number of participants was 21 adolescents in the initial sample, chosen at random. The third phase was the implementation of the action plan drawn up in discussions with the adolescents. Four weekly meetings were held for educational workshops, with 21 adolescents, using innovative and creative methodologies for problem solving, with themes and different techniques and, in the end, the adolescents developed an educational booklet with all the acquired knowledge to use in dialogue with their family, in order to propagate what was learned. In the last step, an evaluation of the process of collective construction of the adopted strategies was carried out aiming to raise awareness of healthier eating habits among adolescents. To accomplish that, 14 adolescents answered to semi-structured individual interviews. The recorded interviews were evaluated by content analysis, which originated four themes. The study results indicate that the active methods for problem solving promote greater awareness in individuals, which favors the transformation of a reality. Despite the knowledge about healthy eating being controversial and fragmented, the adolescents recognized that it needs improvement through formal and informal support, consisting of school, family and community. Paulo Freire's pedagogical practice - through dialogue, awareness and autonomy - was inserted in every stage of the Action-Research, from the construction of educational strategies to the evaluation, the exchange of knowledge among adolescents and the research team for acquisition of knowledge and transformation of reality, in which there was the introduction of healthier foods in the daily menu of adolescents participating in this study.

People have trouble establishing good eating habits in spite of a constant flow of information about the negative effects of unhealthy food. Young children depend on the present adults, which implies that food habits of parents become the food habits of their children. The adults have control over the food available and what meals are served.
This quantitative study has carried out a dietary survey in families with young children. It is based on the National Food Administration (NFA) dietary recommendations about less saturated fat, less added sugar (sucrose), more dietary fibre and more fruit and vegetables.
Validated questions were used to estimate consumption frequencies in food intake of the participating parents and children. This study also investigates whether eating habits of children reflects the eating habits of their parents. Furthermore questions were asked about what difficulties there might be to gain healthy eating habits in the family.
Fifty-six parents with at least one child in the age of 1-6 chose to reply to the questionnaire distributed by five pre-schools in the district of Hagfors.
The results indicate that the eating habits of both parents and children could change for the better. The majority of parents and children do not achieve the dietary recommendations. The recommended less sugar intake is an exception, which the parents achieve. The children consume buns, biscuits and syrups and soft drinks too often. Consumption frequencies of the unhealthy in-between meals are lower in this survey compared to earlier nation-wide Swedish dietary surveys.
An examination of the parent/child pairs indicates that parent’s eating habits closely correspond to those of their children. There is no evidence of effect of parental control over the child’s food intake on consumption frequency of in-between meals. However those parents who use dessert as a bribe to encourage their child to eat more, have children who consume ice cream very often. Children who were not controlled in food intake consumed fruit and vegetables and cheese more often compared to children with parental control over food intake. This may imply that the children who are not controlled have better snack food intake and a greater preference for fruit and vegetables. Therefore it is possible to state that parental control has no positive effects on children’s food intake.
Many parents consider that healthy eating habits are no problem, yet many of them consume unhealthy food too often. Lack of time is the most reported difficulty.
Conclusions are that if eating habits in the future adult population is to be better, parent’s diet should be focus of change. Each parent needs to recognize the responsibility of him/her in the development of the child’s eating habits, partly by what is made available but most of all by the parental role model.

Full textTo evaluate the frequency of healthy eating habits among adolescents from high schools in the urban area of Pelotas, based on the "10 Steps to Healthy Eating" from Brazilian Ministry of Health. Methods: A school-based cross-sectional study was conducted, stratified according to school system and proportional to the number of students attending each school. A total of 1233 adolescents (13-19 years) were studied. The "10 Steps to Healthy Eating" were evaluated through a self-administered questionnaire with questions on food frequency and other questions about different aspects included in the 10 Steps. We performed descriptive analysis of the data, followed by bivariate analysis. Results: The average number of steps achieved was 1.8. The majority of the population adhered to one and two steps and only 1.7% reached more than five steps. It is noteworthy that none of the subjects achieved entirely the "10 Steps to Healthy Eating." The recommendation that had the highest frequency of compliance was step four, referring to the consumption of the combination of rice and beans at least five times a week. The recommendations that had lower frequencies of compliance were related to consumption of soft drinks, processed juices, sweets and snacks less than once a week, and step three on the consumption of three servings of vegetables / green leafes and three servings of fruit daily. Conclusion: Adherence to the "10 steps to a healthy diet" recommended by the Ministry of Health by adolescents in Pelotas was very low. Considering the present and future importance of healthy eating in adolescence, it is recommended greater investment in public policies in the area of food and nutrition.

Full textIndividuals with high socioeconomic status have better food habits and are more environmentally aware, due to higher education level and income. To establish healthy food habits, it requires that there are good prerequisites such as food stores with a wide range of fresh food since it is associated with healthy food habits of an individual and absence of good food stores is mainly affecting disadvantaged groups. The aim of this study is to describe food habits and environmental awareness among adolescents in Västerås and investigate if there are differences regarding food habits, environmental awareness and prerequisites for healthy food habits between adolescents living in neighborhoods with different socioeconomic status. The study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional study design. Secondary data was used from the study Neighborhood, sustainable lifestyle and health among adolescents (NESLA), which was conducted in autumn of 2017 on adolescents from year two and three in high school. The result shows that the adolescents’ have a low consumption of fruits and vegetables and a high consumption of candy, chips, other snacks and soda. The majority of the adolescents’ eats at a fast food restaurant at least once a week. Almost half of the adolescents’ eats breakfast every day and the majority eats lunch at school every day a regular week. Most of the adolescents are environmentally aware, since they are worried about environmental issues and climate changes and believe that their lifestyle choices can affect the environment. A significant correlation between high environmental awareness and unhealthy food habits is found. There is no statistically significant difference between neighborhood-level socioeconomic status and food habits, and for being worried about environmental issues and climate changes. Significant differences are found between adolescents from neighborhoods with different socioeconomic status and believing in that lifestyle choices affects the environment. Adolescents living in low socioeconomic status neighborhoods reported that they have greater prerequisites for healthy food habits compared to middle-high and high socioeconomic status neighborhoods. The ecological model was used as a theoretical perspective to discuss the results.

Full textBackground: It is common for people to experience difficulty motivating themselves to make a change in behavior towards a healthier lifestyle. It is also common for people who have implemented a behavior change to fall back into their old habits within six months. Interventions that motivate and support people to long-term behavioral change are therefore of great importance in order to improve unhealthy living habits and thereby improve the health of the population. The digital service Hälsocoach online has been developed with the aim of supporting, coaching and motivating people who want to make a change in behavior towards a healthier lifestyle. Interventions that support the user ́s self-determination have shown to contribute to promotion of more long-term lifestyle changes. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to elucidate the clients ́ experience of motivational support for lifestyle change in the digital service Hälsocoach online from a self-determined perspective. Method: The study is of a qualitative method and is based on seven semi-structured interviews with clients who have used Hälsocoach online. The interviews were abductively analyzed with qualitative content analysis. Results: In the result, the parts of Hälsocoach online that the clients experienced had an impact on their motivation to make a lifestyle change are highlighted. The use of Hälsocoach online was in many cases seen as a positive support in strengthened motivation for behavior change, but even those parts of the service that were not experienced as strengthened for the motivation were highlighted by the clients. The analysis of the interviews resulted in five main categories: Sense of participation, Personalized coaching, Relationship with the health coach, Support in the environment and Communication factors. The results that emerged could be linked to the different parts of the self-determination theory, where a clear connection could be seen between satisfaction of the basic needs of autonomy, competence and relatedness and a successful lifestyle change. Conclusion: In many cases, the use of Hälsocoach online was seen as a positive support for strengthened motivation to perform a behavior change and could thus be seen as a useful digital service in health promotion work. The factors highlighted by clients as important for motivation for behavior change could be linked to the basic needs of self-determination theory. The study thus shows that health coaches, by strengthening the basic psychological needs of autonomy, competence and relatedness, can support the clients to an increased self-determination and thereby a stronger motivation for a successful and more long-term behavior change, which in turn can contribute to an improved lifestyle and health of the clients. The increased understanding of the various psychological needs in the motivation process can create the right conditions to being able to offer even more effective and better solutions for promoting healthy behaviors over time.

After an event held in the year of 2006, at Bar Tuim, a business premise, located at downtown of Porto Alegre, Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in which customers disagreed with Porto Alegre Council employees about the interpretation of an administrative police law scope, this paper presents some criterion for the definition of the police power boundaries in what refers to the right of personal freedom in Brazil Federal constitution. The present case leds us to the hypothesis that there is a new existential paradigm in the contemporary society which refers to healthy habits and is characterized as an overvaluation of heath care as a way of life. This work assumption is exactly that this new existential paradigm is raising sucessive and growing prohibitions in the field of individual habits, which might limitate our individual freedom. We analyzed this new existential paradigm using many theories which intend to explain the contemporary reality. In order to define some criteria useful for drawing the boundaries of the police power institute, we have appealed to the discipline of political philophy so that we can through its concepts access some elements important to develop criteria for defining these boundaries. These content elements can be seen in the political liberalism from the European school of the nineteenth century, in the contemporary political liberalism, and in the North American political philosophy. Through this hypothesis we intend to establish some criteria in the definition of boundaries to the States actions in what refers to prohibitions related to individual habits. This paper also intends to be a contribution to the critic raised to several aspects in our contemporary way of live, as the overvaluation of healthy habits.
