Abstract:
In this project, the time-dependent one-dimensional heat equation with internal heating is solved using eigenfunction expansion, according to the thermoelectric boundary conditions. This derivation of the equation describing time-dependent heat flow in a thermoelectric sample or device yields a framework that scientists can use (by entering their own parameters into the equations) to predict the behavior of a system or to verify numerical calculations. Allowing scientists to predict the behavior of a system can help in decision making over whether a particular experiment is worthy of the time to construct and execute it. For experimentalists, it is valuable as a tool for comparison to validate the results of an experiment. The calculations done in this derivation can be applied to pulsed cooling systems, the analysis of Z-meter measurements, and other transient techniques that have yet to be invented. The vast majority of the calculations in this derivation were done by hand, but the parts that required numerical solutions, plotting, or powerful computation, were done using Mathematica 8. The process of filling in all the steps needed to arrive at a solution to the time-dependent heat equation for thermoelectrics yields many insights to the behavior of the various components of the system and provides a deeper understanding of such systems in general.

Abstract:

Subsea processing can make production from otherwise unprofitable fields profitable. In subsea processing controlled cooling of the process fluid will often be required. Robust and simple solutions are desirable in subsea processing. Coolers that rely on natural convection from the surrounding seawater are therefore interesting, but control of the process fluid outlet temperature is hard to obtain in such coolers. In this study a calculation model for subsea coolers has been developed. The commercial software MATLAB has been used for developing a program. Heat transfer and frictional pressure drop correlations have been studied and recommendations are made for the model. The model is based on tubes in parallel, and the tubes can be oriented vertically or horizontally. The program allows for open, semi-open and closed arrangements on the waterside, and both natural and forced convection is implemented. The program has been tested through simulations of two test cases and found to be performing as desired.

Abstract:
A turbine was investigated by various methods of calculating its efficiency. The project was based on an existing impulse turbine, a one-stage turbine set in an organic Rankine cycle with the working fluid being R245fa. Various methods of loss calculation were explored in the search for a method sufficiently accurate to make valid assumptions regarding the turbine performance, while simple enough to be time efficient for use in industrial research and development.  The calculations were primarily made in an isentropic manner, only taking into account losses due to the residual velocity present in the exit flow. Later, an incidence loss was incorporated in the isentropic calculations, resulting in additional losses at off-design conditions. Leaving the isentropic calculations, the work by Tournier, “Axial flow, multi-stage turbine and compressor models” was used. The work presents a method of calculating turbine losses separated into four components: profile, trailing edge, tip clearance and secondary losses. The losses applicable to the case were implemented into the model. Since the flow conditions of the present turbine are extreme, the results were not expected to coincide with the results of Tournier. In order to remedy this problem, the results were compared to results obtained through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) of the turbine. The equations purposed by Tournier were correlated in order to better match the present case. Despite that the equations by Tournier were correlated in order to adjust to the current conditions, the results of the losses calculated through the equations did not obtain results comparable to the ones of the available CFD simulations. More research within the subject is necessary, preferably using other software tools.

Abstract:
Effective gages to measure skin friction and heat transfer have been established over decades. One of the most important criteria in designing such a gage is the physical size of the gage to minimise the interference of the flow, as well as the mass of these devices. The combined measurement of skin friction and heat flux using one single gage on the other hand, present unique opportunities and with it, unique technical problems.

The objective of this study is therefore to develop a cost-effective single gage that can be used to measure both skin friction and heat flux. The method proposed in this study is to install a coaxial thermocouple into an existing skin friction gage to measure the unsteady temperature on the surface of the gage. By using the temperature history and a computer program the heat flux through the surface can be obtained through an iterative guessing method. To ensure that the heat flux through the gage is similar to the heat flux through the rest of the surface, the gage is manufactured of a material very similar to the rest of the surface.

Walker developed a computer program capable of predicting the heat flux through a surface from the measured surface temperature history. The program is based on an inverse approach to calculate the heat flux through the surface. The biggest advantages of this method are its stability and the small amount of noise induced into the system. The drawback of the method is that it is limited to semi-infinite objects. For surfaces with a finite thickness, a second thermocouple was installed into the system some distance below the first thermocouple. By modifying the computer program these two unsteady temperatures can be used to predict the heat flux through a surface of finite thickness.

As part of this study, the effect of noise induced by the Cook-Felderman technique, found in the literature were investigated in detail and it was concluded that the method proposed in this study is superior to this Cook-Felderman method. Heat flux measurements compared well with measurements recorded with heat flux gages. In all cases evaluated the difference was less than 20%. It can therefore be concluded that heat flux gages on their own can measure surface heat flux very accurately. These gages are however too large to install in a skin-friction gage. The method introduced in this study is noisier than the heat flux gages on their own, but the size which is very important, is magnitudes smaller when using a coaxial thermocouple, to measure the surface temperature history.

Abstract:
Thermochemical heat storage (TCS) is a technology to convert the heat and cold energy into chemical energy, via reversible chemical reactions, to be stored for heating and cooling applications. TCS technology is gaining interest for its very compact energy storage densities offering attractive thermal energy storage (TES) alternatives to decrease energy-related greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions and contribute to sustainable development.  This thesis is part of the umbrella project “Neutrons for Heat Storage (NHS)”, funded by Nordforsk. The objective of the NHS project at KTH is to design, construct and operate a bench-scale TCS system using strontium chloride (SrCl2)-ammonia (NH3) as the solid-gas reaction pair for low-temperature heat storage applications (40-80 ℃). This system has been thus numerically designed, adapted to practical considerations, and is now being built at Energy Technology, KTH.  Within this background, this thesis, as its primary objective, designs a calculation tool for evaluating the experimental performance of the above described bench-scale TCS system. A thorough explanation of the thesis methodology is presented here, including preparing the composites (SrCl2 impregnated into expanded natural graphite), the system’s risk analysis, and the critical focus is on the systems’ performance evaluation parameters, and the mathematical design of the calculation tool. A review of relevant literature is also conducted to identify the most pertinent performance evaluation parameters of this TCS system. For the consideration of user-friendliness, simplicity, and effectiveness, the calculation tool is designed using Ms. Excel. Here, energy efficiency, reaction advancement, reaction advancement rate, the real thermal energy density per mass, and actual thermal energy density per volume are chosen as the parameters to best-represent the system’s performance (i.e., Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)), calculated based on mass balance and energy balance expressions, primarily. Using this calculation tool, concerning this experimental bench-scale system, the user can visualize the obtained experimental data, calculate the defined KPIs of the system, and seek the potential to improve the current system.  A group of test data is assumed (consulting the reaction equilibrium curve, thus ensuring that they fall within realistic experimental conditions) to check the calculation tool's accuracy and function. For the lack of experimental data, the results of the test data are not ideal. However, thanks to these assumed test data, it is proven that the calculation tool functions correctly. The calculation process can be finished in several minutes, saving a lot of time otherwise required for the data analysis after the experiments. It also functions as the test model to analyze the experimental data.  In conclusion, this project designed and presents a functioning calculation tool to evaluate the experimental performance of a bench-scale experimental TCS system (being built and commissioned at KTH) for the reaction between SrCl2 and NH3. Some suggestions related to future improvements are proposed as well. For instance, the calculation tool is not automatic enough because it involves manual operation at specific points. Therefore, one of the future tasks is to add the ability to identify the reaction pressure vs temperature curve against the equilibrium conditions and defining whether the process is absorption or desorption automatically. Besides, currently, much electrical equipment is employed in the system, which decreases the system's sustainability, whereas, in future work, the layout of the system can be improved. The system's exergy performance is not analyzed in the thesis report, which can be chosen as another future task.
Termokemisk energilagring (TCS) är en teknik som omvandlar värme och kyla till kemisk energi via reversibla kemiska reaktioner, som ska lagras för uppvärmning och kylning. Intresset för TCS-teknik ökar idag för sin mycket kompakta energilagringstäthet som erbjuder ett attraktivt alternativ för termiskenergilagring (TES) för att minska energirelaterade växthusgasutsläpp (GHG) och bidra till hållbar utveckling.  Denna avhandling är en del av paraplyprojektet ”neutroner för värmelagring (NHS)”, finansierat av Nordforsk. Målet med NHS-projektet vid KTH är att designa, konstruera och driva ett TCS-system i bänksala med strontiumklorid (SrCl2) och ammoniak (NH3) som reaktionspar för fast-gas reaktion för värmelagringsapplikationer vid låg temperatur (40-80℃). Detta system har därmed numeriskt utformats och anpassats till praktiska användningsområden och byggs nu på institutionen för Energiteknik på KTH.  Med denna bakgrund utformar detta projekt som sitt primära mål, ett beräkningsverktyg för att utvärdera den experimentella prestandan för det ovan beskrivna TCS-systemet i bänkskala. En grundlig förklaring av metoden presenteras här, inklusive förberedning av kompositerna (SrCl2 impregnerat i en expanderad naturlig grafit) samt systemets riskanalys. Kritiskt fokus ligger på systemens prestandaparametrar och den matematiska utformningen av beräkningsverktyget. En genomgång av relevant litteratur genomfördes också för att identifiera de mest relevanta parametrarna. Med hänsyn till användarvänlighet, enkelhet och effektivitet, är beräkningsverktyget utformat med hjälp av Excel. Här väljs energieffektivitet, reaktionsprogression, förändring av reaktionsprogression, den verkliga termiska energidensiteten per massa och praktisk termisk energitäthet per volym som parametrar för att bäst representera systemets prestanda (dvs Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)). Dessa KPIs beräknades främst baserat på massbalans och energibalansuttryck. Med hjälp av detta beräkningsverktyg för detta TCS-systemet på bänkskala kan användaren visualisera den erhållna experimentella datan, beräkna de definierade KPI:erna för systemet och hitta potentialen att förbättra det nuvarande systemet.  En mängd testdata antogs (genom att hänvisa till reaktionens jämviktskurva, vilket säkerställer att de faller inom realistiska experimentförhållanden) för att kontrollera beräkningsverktygets noggrannhet och funktion. På grund av avsaknaden av experimentella data är resultaten av testdata inte optimala. Men med hjälp av den antagna testdatan är det bevisat att beräkningsverktyget fungerar korrekt. Beräkningen kan avslutas efter några minuter, vilket sparar mycket tid som annars krävs för dataanalysen efter experimenten. Det fungerar också som en testmodell för att analysera experimentdata.  Sammanfattningsvis utformade och presenterade detta projekt ett fungerande beräkningsverktyg för att utvärdera experimentella prestanda för ett experimentellt TCS-system på bänkskala (byggs och tas i drift vid KTH) för reaktionen mellan SrCl2 och NH3. Några förslag relaterade till framtida förbättringar föreslås också. Beräkningsverktyget är till exempel inte helt automatiserat eftersom det behöver manuell inmatning vid specifika punkter. Därför är en av de framtida uppgifterna att lägga till förmågan att identifiera reaktionstrycket mot temperaturkurvan i förhållande till jämvikten och att definiera om processen är absorption eller desorption automatiskt. För närvarande används mycket elektrisk utrustning i systemet vilket minskar systemets hållbarhet, medan systemet i framtiden kan förbättras. Systemets exergiprestanda analyseras inte i rapporten, vilket kan lämnas för framtida arbete.

This thesis is focused on creating an iterative model for thermal and hydraulic calculation of heating net in Visual Basic of Application. Flowing medium considered is hot water. Although data for heating network in Brno are recorded in this model, its use for any other heating network is possible. This model allows also calculation of minimal temperature of the source and calculation of heat loss of every consumer. This is very useful when considering, if supplying some of the consumers with the heat from a local source would not be more effective. The second part of this text is aimed to evaluation of different ways how to reduce the heat loss in heat network for source Červený mlýn. Both current situation and possibilities for the future are considered.

Till följd av EU:s miljömål 2020 har svenska statliga och kommunala miljömål satts upp för att minska energianvändningen. EU:s 2020-mål syftar till att minska energianvändningen i Europa med 20 procent fram till år 2020 från det att målet sattes upp 2010. På kommunal nivå har detta inneburit att fastighetsbolag, privata men främst kommunala aktörer, har tvingats att se över sin energianvändning. Arbetet i denna rapport föranleds av en av de besparingsåtgärder som har vidtagits nämligen att komplettera befintliga fjärrvärmeuppvärmningssystem med värmepumpar. Uppdraget avser utveckling och utvärdering av en beräkningsmodell för denna typ av system. För att skapa ett pålitligt beslutsunderlag i arbetet med att minska energianvändningen krävs välgrundade beräkningar. Befintliga beräkningsmodeller lägger stor vikt vid ekonomiska faktorer och tar därmed liten hänsyn till tekniska aspekter och omgivande faktorer. Målet med arbetet har varit att skapa en beräkningsmodell vilken i större utsträckning speglar den faktiska situationen och påvisar ett mer välgrundat beslutsunderlag. Arbetet inleddes med en litteraturstudie vilken innefattade relevant forskning och grundläggande fakta om värmepumpar och fjärrvärmesystem. Beräkningsmodellen har utvecklats löpande under projektet där nya funktioner samt ny information ständigt tillkommit. Projektet har resulterat i en fungerande beräkningsmodell vilken innefattar fler parametrar än tidigare motsvarigheter. Tillsammans med uppdragsgivaren sattes tre olika mål upp för beräkningsmodellen, dessa var:  Att på ett intuitivt sätt presentera information och data.  Att skapa en transparent struktur vilken är enkel att följa.  Att skapa ett flöde genom modellen vilket följer en önskad arbetsgång. Dessa mål anses ha blivit uppfyllda, dock finns möjlighet till vidareutveckling. Modellen skulle exempelvis kunna kompletteras med mer automatiserade optimeringsberäkningar och justeras för att hantera andra typer av systemlösningar.
As a result of the EU's environmental 2020 goal, the Swedish government and municipal boards has put up internal goals to reduce energy consumption. EU 2020 goal aims to reduce energy consumption in Europe by 20 percent by the year 2020 from that the target was set in 2010. At the municipal level, this has meant that private but mainly public housing properties have been required to review their energy use. The work in this report is based on one of the savings measures that have been taken, which is to supplement existing district heating systems with exhaust air heat pumps. The project aims to develop a calculation model for evaluation and computation for this type of system. To create a reliable basis for decisions, efforts were made to produce just calculations. Existing computational models are focused on economic factors and thus takes little consideration of technological aspects and environmental factors. The aim of the work has been to create a computational model which more closely reflects the real situation and demonstrates a more informative decision basis. The work began with a literature review which included relevant research and basic facts about exhaust air heat pumps and district heating systems. The calculation model has been developed continuously during the project in which new functions and new information constantly has been added. The project has resulted in a working computational model which includes many more parameters than previous reviewed models. Together with the client three sub goals were set up for the model, these were:  To intuitively present information and data.  To create a transparent structure which is simple to follow.  To create a flow through the model, which follows a desired work process. These goals are considered to have been fulfilled in the developed calculation model, however, it's possible to further develop this model. The model could, for example, be supplemented with more automated optimization calculations and be adjusted to handle other kinds of heating systems.

Abstract:
Diploma thesis deals with the design of the condensing steam turbine with power output 23.63 MW at 5000 rpm and an efficiency of 84.17% after optimization. The turbine contains one controlled steam extraction and four bleeds. The steam mass flow required by controlled steam extraction is 0-75 t/h of a total mass flow to the turbine 105 t/h. Design of the steam turbine is preceded by calculation of heat balance of the cycle. Then the thermodynamic and strength calculation of regulation stage and reaction staging flow channel are made. Thermodynamic calculation of the flow channel consists of preliminary and detailed calculation. It is detailed calculation that leads to the turbine parameters optimization. The design also includes gland sealing system and balance piston calculation. In addition to the strength calculation there is bearings load calculation included. In the end, the consumption diagram is made, showing the interval by which the turbine can be safely operated. Integrated part of the thesis is conceptual drawing of steam turbine section.

This graduation thesis is concerned with a thermal exchange unit issue whereof one working substance complies with a two-phase mode of a flow. This unit is made for the steam generation. The thesis is supposed to solve operation problems causes of the given unit and to make a proposal of an appropriate solution that is supported by performed calculations. Part of the the work is strength calculation. This work also introduces the thermal-hydraulic processes issue of the steam generation equipment. There are also performed thermal-hydraulic control calculations in consideration of newly set-up operation parameters of the given equipment‘s working substances.

Abstract:
This thesis is devoted to heat transfer and fire dynamics in enclosures. It consists of a main part which summarizes and discusses the theory of heat transfer, conservation of energy, fire dynamics and specific fire scenarios that have been studied. In the second part of this thesis, the reader will find an Appendix containing seven scientific publications in this field. In particular, one- and two-zone compartment fire models have been studied. A new way of calculating fire temperatures of pre- and post-flashover compartment fires is presented. Three levels of solution techniques are presented including closed form analytical expressions, spread-sheet calculations and solutions involving general finite element temperature calculations. Validations with experiments have shown good accuracy of the calculation models and that the thermal properties of the surrounding structures have a great impact on the fire temperature development. In addition, the importance of the choice of measurement techniques in fire engineering has been studied. Based on the conclusions from these studies, the best techniques have been used in further experimental studies of different fire scenarios.
Denna avhandling behandlar problem kopplade till värmeöverföring och branddynamik i slutna utrymmen med tonvikt på värmeöverföring mellan gaser och utsatta konstruktioner. Avhandlingen består av en huvuddel och ett appendix innehållande sju vetenskapliga artiklar. I huvuddelen sammanfattas och diskuteras grundläggande teorier och principer inom värmeöverföring och branddynamik samt studier av ett antal specialfall av brandscenarion som baseras på dessa teorier. I de avslutande bilagorna (Artiklar A1-A3 och Artiklar B1-B2) finns sju vetenskapliga artiklar som grundligare beskriver de ovan nämnda specialfallen. Huvudfokus i avhandlingen ligger på temperaturutveckling vid brand i slutna utrymmen. I avhandlingen studeras i synnerhet en- och två-zonsmodeller för brand i slutna utrymmen, och en ny metod för att beräkna brandgastemperaturer före och efter övertändning i rumsbränder är framtagen. Validering av dessa modeller med experiment visar att deras noggrannhet är bra. Modellerna visar också att de termiska egenskaperna hos de omgivande ytorna har stor inverkan på brandtemperatursutvecklingen. I tillägg studeras i denna avhandling betydelsen av val av mätmetoder i brandtekniska tillämpningar. På grundval av slutsatserna från dessa studier har de främsta mätteknikerna använts i ytterligare experimentella studier av olika brandscenarier.

В работе выполнено исследование и разработка теплоиспользующего теплового насоса с тепловой производительностью 50 кВт. В результате теплового расчета выполнено энергетическое и эксергетическое сравнения и построение графиков. В результате гидравлического расчета определено гидравлическое сопротивление аппарата. Также были выполнены расчеты на прочность элементов охладителя воздуха, таких как цилиндрическая обечайка и плоское днище, расчет на прочность и герметичность фланцевого соединения.
Research and development of a heat-using heat pump with a heat output of 50 kW were performed in the work. As a result of thermal calculation, energy and exergy comparison and plotting were performed. As a result of hydraulic calculation, the hydraulic resistance of the device is determined. Calculations were also made for the strength of the air cooler elements, such as the cylindrical shell and the flat bottom, and for the strength and tightness of the flange connection.

The Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB) has developed a method for final disposal of spent nuclear fuel. This technique requires accurate measurement of the residual decay heat of every assembly. For this purpose, depletion codes as well as calorimetric and gamma-ray spectroscopy experimental methods have been developed and evaluated. In this work a prototype analysis tool has been developed to automate the analysis of both calorimetric and gamma-ray spectroscopy measurements. The performance of the analysis tool has been investigated by comparing its output with earlier results and calculations. Parallel to the software development, new measurements on 73 BWR assemblies were performed. The results obtained for the determination of the residual decay heat are presented. Finally, suggestions for further development are outlined and discussed.

The objective of the present work is to determinate the pressure drop and the heat transfer coefficients, normally applied to analytical calculations of hydrogenerators thermal design, obtained by applying numerical calculation (Computational Fluid Dynamics - CFD) and validated by experimental results and field measurements. The object of study is limited to the most important region of the ventilation system (the cooling air ducts of stator core) to get numerical results of heat transfer and pressure drop coefficients, which are impacted mostly by the entrance of air ducts. The numerical calculations considered three-dimensional, steady-state, incompressible and turbulent flow; and were based on the Finite Volume methodology. The turbulent flow computations were carried out with procedures based on RANS equations by selecting k-omega SST (Shear-Stress Transport) as turbulence model. Grid quality metrics were monitored and the uncertainties due to discretization errors were evaluated by means of a grid independence study and application of an uncertainty estimation procedure based on Richardson extrapolation. The validation of numerical method developed by the present work (specifically to simulate the flow dynamics behavior and to obtain numerically the pressure drop coefficient of the airflow to enter and pass through the Stator Core Air Duct in a hydrogenerator) is performed by comparing the numerical results to experimental data published by Wustmann (2005). The reference experimental data were obtained by a model test. The comparison between numerical and experimental results shows that the difference of pressure drop for Reynolds numbers higher than 5000 is 2% at maximum, while for lower Reynolds numbers, the difference increases significantly and reaches 10%. It is presented that the most reasonable hypothesis for higher discrepancy at lower Reynolds numbers can be assigned to the experiment\'s non-steady-state condition. It is to conclude that the proposed numerical method is validated for the upper region of the analyzed range. Additionally to the model test validation, field measurements were executed in order to confirm numerical results. Measurements of pressure drop in the stator core of a real hydrogenerator were a challenge. Nevertheless, despite all the difficulties and considerable high field measuring uncertainties, trend curves behavior are similar to numerical results. Finally, series of numerical calculation, varying geometrical parameters of the air-duct inlet design and operational data, were done in order to obtain pressure drop coefficients trend curves to be directly applied to analytical calculation routines of whole hydrogenerator ventilation systems. Parallel to it, thermal numerical calculation was executed in the prototype simulation in order to define the convective heat transfer coefficient.
O objetivo do presente trabalho é determinar os coeficientes de perda de carga e transferência de calor, normalmente aplicados nos cálculos analíticos de design térmico de hidrogeradores, obtido pela aplicação de cálculo numérico (Computacional Fluid Dynamics - CFD) e validado por resultados experimentais e medições de campo. O objeto de estudo é limitado à região mais importante do sistema de ventilação (os dutos de ar de arrefecimento do núcleo do estator) para obter resultados numéricos dos coeficientes de transferência de calor e de perda de carga, que são impactados principalmente pela entrada de dutos de ar. Os cálculos numéricos consideraram escoamentos tridimensionais, em regime permanente, incompressíveis e turbulentos; e foram baseados no método dos volumes finitos. Os cálculos de escoamento turbulento foram realizados com procedimentos baseados em equações médias (RANS), utilizando o modelo k-omega SST (Shear-Stress Transport) como modelo de turbulência. Métricas de qualidade de malha foram monitoradas e as incertezas devido à erros de discretização foram avaliadas por meio de um estudo de independência de malha e aplicação de um procedimento de estimativa de incertezas com base na extrapolação de Richardson. A validação do método numérico desenvolvido pelo presente trabalho (especificamente para simular o comportamento dinâmico do escoamento e obter numericamente o coeficiente de perda de carga do escoamento ao entrar no duto de ar e atravessar o núcleo do estator de um hidrogerador) é realizada comparando os resultados numéricos com dados experimentais publicados por Wustmann (2005). Os dados experimentais foram obtidos como referência por um teste de modelo. A comparação entre os resultados numéricos e experimentais mostra que a diferença da perda de carga para números de Reynolds mais elevados do que 5000 é no máximo de 2%, enquanto que para números de Reynolds inferiores, a diferença aumenta significativamente e atinge 10%. A hipótese mais razoável para a maior discrepância para número de Reynolds menores é a possível influência de instabilidades do escoamento no experimento, fazendo com que o regime seja não-permanente. Conclui-se que o método numérico proposto é validado para a região superior do intervalo analisado. Além da validação pelo ensaio de modelo, medições de campo foram executadas, a fim de confirmar os resultados numéricos. As medições de perda de carga no núcleo do estator de um hidrogerador real era um desafio. No entanto, apesar de todas as dificuldades e consideráveis incertezas da medição campo, o comportamento das curvas de tendência ficou alinhado com resultados numéricos. Finalmente, uma série de cálculos numéricos, variando parâmetros geométricos do design da entrada do duto de ar e dados operacionais, foram executados a fim de se obter curvas de tendência para coeficientes de perda de carga (resultados deste trabalho) a serem aplicadas diretamente à rotinas de cálculos analíticos de sistemas completos de ventilação de hidrogeradores. Paralelamente à isso, o cálculo térmico numérico foi executado na simulação do protótipo, a fim de se definir o coeficiente de transferência de calor por convecção.

У дисертації розглянуті питання інтенсифікації теплопередачі та розробки методів оптимального проектування розбірних пластинчастих теплообмінників і їх систем з урахуванням забруднення поверхні теплопередачі в процесі експлуатації. Вперше розроблено метод оптимального проектування пластинчастого теплообмінника і системи пластинчастих теплообмінників на основі критерію приведених витрат. Запропоновано математичну модель, що дозволяє враховувати появу відкладень на поверхні теплообміну в процесі роботи, яка використовується для оптимального розрахунку пластинчастих розбірних теплообмінників за критерієм приведених витрат. Отримано нові експериментальні результати щодо забруднення поверхні теплопередачі при нагріванні сольових розчинів води. Показано, що присутність турбулізуючих елементів на поверхні значно знижує інтенсивність утворення відкладень. На працюючому цукровому заводі, протягом двох сезонів цукроваріння, проведений моніторинг роботи чотирьох послідовно встановлених розбірних пластинчастих теплообмінників. Розроблена та запропонована науково обґрунтована методика реконструкції систем підігрівачів шляхом заміни кожухотрубних апаратів на пластинчасті. Модернізація включає в себе оцінку енергоефективності використання енергії методом пінч-аналізу випарної станції в цілому і відділення попереднього нагріву соку, де встановлені пластинчасті підігрівачі. У рамках запропонованої математичної моделі отримав подальший розвиток підхід до оцінки асимптотичного характеру появи відкладень. Представлена його фізико-математична модель, яка реалізована в процесі проектування системи підігрівачів працюючого цукрового заводу. На основі представлених моделей і методів оптимального проектування розбірних пластинчастих теплообмінних апаратів створено математичне забезпечення для вибору типу і розрахунку поверхні теплопередачі теплообмінників за критерієм приведених витрат з урахуванням появи відкладень в процесі експлуатації.

The thesis is dedicated to problems of heat transfer intensification and development of optimal design methods of gasketed plate heat exchangers and their systems with taking into consideration the heat surface fouling during operation. The method of optimum design of plate heat exchanger systems and heat exchangers based on the criterion of reduced costs is developed for the first time. The mathematical model that takes into account the appearance of deposits on heat transfer surfaces in the process operation, was used to calculate the optimal design of plate heat exchangers by reduced costs criterion. The new experimental results in fouling of heat transfer surface when heated saline water were obtained. It is shown that availability of turbulence elements on the surface are greatly reduces the intensity of deposits appearance. In working sugar factory during two season’s sugar juice boiling was monitored on 4 in series gasketed plate heat exchangers. The method of reconstruction by replacing shell-and-tube heaters with plate heat exchangers is developed and scientifically grounded. Modernization involves the pinch analysis of energy efficiency of sugar evaporation station with separation branch of sugar juice preheating system, where heaters installed in series. The further developed asymptotic approach to assessing the nature of the occurrence of deposits is presented as a part of the proposed mathematical model. His physical-mathematical model, which was implemented in the design of the system heaters working sugar plant, is presented. Based on the models and methods of optimal design of gasketed plate heat exchangers mathematical software were created to select the type and calculation of heat exchangers surface by criterion of adjusted cost with the deposits counts appearance during operation.

The present thesis is focused on calculation prediction of characteristic parameters of combustion process in combustion chamber which is installed at burners testing laboratory. In the thesis basic theoretical knowledge needed for description of heat transfer in process combustion equipment are given. The Plug Flow Furnace Model is based on this knowledge. This model is used to evaluation of specific heat flux in tube furnaces. In the next step the Plug – Flow model is modified and adapted on the combustion chamber. Obtained results are compared with a measured data. By this comparison quality of this model is assessed.

The main aim of the thesis is to evaluete properties of a simplified thermal calculation of the direct fired heater published in the journal Applied Energy at 2010 and its application to specific industrial cases. At first, general issues of process heaters are talk over. Second, calculation model in cited article is briefly introduced. After that, custom computational model at program Maple is created in accordance with published article. Subsequently, the model is applied to the existing process furnaces in the form of a check calculation. An integral part of the work is also a detailed discussion of the results obtained.

The aim of this diploma thesis is a design and thermodynamical calculation of a steam condensing turbine with one controlled steam extraction and assigned technical specifications. Technical specifications are turbine inlet temperature 440,0 °C, pressure of inlet steam 38,0 bar(a), pressure in controlled steam extraction 13,0 bar(a), mass flow rate of steam in controlled steam exraction 0,0-40 t/h, temperature in deaerator 105,0 °C and temperature of cooling water in condenser 25,0 °C. Designed steam turbine works in a Rankine-Clausius cycle with a water-cooled condenser, system of low-pressure feed water heater, feed water tank with deaerator and steam boiler. Turbine was designed with regular turbine stages with reaction type of blading and with two regulation stages with impulse blading. An extraction turbine map of the steam turbine is shown in the last chapter of this work. Final parameters of steam turbine are power of 21,7 kW, internal efficiency of turbine 85,1 % and reheat factor 1,048.

Diploma thesis deals with the design of a condensing steam turbine with one controlled steam extraction. Its working range is 0 to 10 t/h. The first part contains the design of the heat balance scheme. The turbine has two unregulated steam extractions for low-pressure feedwater heater and outlet steam is cooled by water condenser. The main part is the design of the turbine flow channel with one regulative stage using impulse blading and 26 regular stages using reaction blading. The turbine rotating speed is 8500 rpm, which is strength suitable even in critical points. The following chapters are describing the design of the compensation piston and bearings. The consumption characteristic of the steam turbine is shown in the last chapter. Drawing of the turbine section is attached to this thesis. Final turbine power is 9259,7 kW and thermodynamic efficiency 85,5 %.

This master’s thesis deals with influence of heat source on the value of the apartment building. The introduction describes the calculation of heat losses, types of heating systems, heating elements, heat sources for heating and hot water, methods of market valuation. Further are chosen two variants of heat sources for heating and domestic hot water for the Domino apartment building. Both heating elements are designed to cover the heat losses of the house. At the end of the thesis is an evaluation of the return of a more expensive variant, but cheaper to operate, profit from sale and profibility on rent of the apartment building.

The theme of the master’s thesis is to design a 60 MW single-casing steam turbine for the two-stage district water heating. The turbine is designed for cogeneration cycle, has four uncontrolled extractions and the outlet down to the heater. First, there is the thermodynamic calculation of the turbine operation with 100 % steam mass flow. Further, the detailed design of flow part with the strength calculation of blades and diaphragms is drawn. By the end of the thesis, the required operations are compared and corresponding heat balancing diagrams are listed. The thesis also includes a turbine longitudinal section.

Dimensions of tube sheet are gained in program Visual vessel design. Those parameters are used for creating of 3D model with accurate dimensions which is analyzed in ANSYS Workbench. Output of this analysis is evaluation by stress classification. Practical part is supplemented by drawing of heat exchanger.

The aim of the thesis is to design a heat exchanger for heating natural gas in the mining process and subsequent treatment. The first part describes natural gas itself, its origin, mining and ways of treatment. There are described technologies used for finding the deposits itself or processes by which water, sulfur and solid particles are removed from the extracted gas. The next section deals with the types of heat exchangers most commonly used in industry. There are also described basic relations for heat-hydraulic calculation of heat exchanger. In the practical part the heat exchanger itself was designed. World-wide HTRI software was used for the heat-hydraulic calculation and for strength calculation according to the standard ČSN EN 13445 was used sofware Sant´ Ambrogio.

This thesis deals with simulation of cooling of rail during its passing through cooling device which has been designed by the heat transfer and fluid flow laboratory. Inputs of the computational model have been set up to get best possible correspondence between outputs of the computational model and results of experimental measurement. The solution with using of model of austenitic stainless steel is provided in first part of the thesis. The solution with considering model of carbon steel is performed in next part. Using of model of carbon steel allows including evolution of latent heat during phase changing. A fields of residual stress has been calculated for different cooling conditions in the last part of this thesis.

Ekonomiska och miljömässiga intressen från bostadsägare angående stigande elpriser och energihushållning leder båda till ett mer medvetet byggande vad gäller klimatskalets täthet, energismarta installationer såsom styrda FTX-system och andra besparingsåtgärder.Examensarbetet har skrivits åt Bjerking för att undersöka möjligheten till att centralisera uppvärmningen istället för att värma upp bostäderna med varsin frånluftsvärmepump i en bostadsrättsförening bestående av parhus.Rapporten innehåller en del beräkningar i form av energiförluster och kostnadsberäkningar för de olika värmesystemen samt statistik för uppvärmning i Sverige.Examensarbetet har resulterat i kostnadsberäkningar som kan användas vid inledande investeringsberäkning för centraliserad uppvärmning i liknande projekt.
Today, when the housing industry is growing faster than in a long time energy house holding is becoming more important for every day. Economic and environmental interests from house owners, when it comes to increasing energy prices and energy house holding, both leads to a more conscious house building. This includes the buildings U-value, energy smart installations and other energy saving arrangements.This examination paper has been written for Bjerking to investigate the possibility to centralize the heating in a housing society of several semi-detached houses instead of heating them locally with the standard solution, an exhaust air heat pump per apartment.This examination paper includes a few calculations of energy losses and life cycle costs for the different heating systems. It also includes a bit of statistic for different types of heating in Sweden.It has ended in cost calculations that can be used when thinking about and planning to build semi-detached houses with central heating.

У роботі виконано тепловий, гідравлічний та конструктивний розрахунки пластинчасто-ребристого апарату компресорної установки з трикутною, прямокутною та трапецієвидною насадками. У результаті розрахунку визначено коефіцієнти тепловіддачі від гарячого та холодного теплоносіїв, геометричні параметри апарату та втрати тиску в апараті. Проведено дослідження ефективності цих апаратів з різними видами насадок та вибрано оптимальний варіант, який працює з найбільшими показниками ефективності по гарячому та холодному теплоносію. Також було розглянуто питання охорони праці на компресорному підприємстві, де експлуатуються такі теплообмінники та виконано розрахунок повітрообміну у виробничому приміщенні.
В работе выполнен тепловой, гидравлический и конструктивный расчеты пластинчато-ребристого аппарата компрессорной установки с треугольной, прямоугольной и трапециевидной насадками. В результате расчета определены коэффициенты теплоотдачи от горячего и холодного теплоносителей, геометрические параметры аппарата и потери давления в аппарате. Проведено исследование эффективности этих аппаратов с различными видами насадок и выбрано оптимальный вариант, который работает с наибольшими показателями эффективности по горячему и холодному теплоносителю. Также были рассмотрены вопросы охраны труда на компрессорном предприятии, где эксплуатируются такие теплообменники и выполнен расчет воздухообмена в производственном помещении.
In the work, the thermal, hydraulic and structural calculations of the lamellar-ribbed apparatus of the compressor unit with triangular, rectangular and trapezoidal nozzles were performed. As a result of the calculation, the coefficients of heat transfer from hot and cold heat carriers, the geometric parameters of the apparatus and the pressure loss in the apparatus were determined. A study of the efficiency of these devices with various types of nozzles was carried out and the optimal option was selected, which works with the highest efficiency indicators for hot and cold coolant. Also, the issues of labor protection at the compressor plant, where such heat exchangers are operated, were considered and the calculation of air exchange in the production room was performed.
