Abstract:
Cooling towers are high-intensity mixing heat exchangers. In them, heat exchange occurs at direct contact (contact) of heat carriers, i.e. in heat exchangers there is no thermal resistance of the wall. When circulating water is cooled by air, part of the heat is transferred due to surface evaporation of water - transformation of water into vapor with subsequent transfer of vapor by diffusion into the air stream. The other part is due to the temperature difference between water and air, i.e. heat transfer by contact (conduction and convection). Heat transfer by direct contact between air and in

This paper addresses the fundamentals of the phenomenon of steady heat transfer by rolling contact between two bodies at different temperatures. The contact region is modeled according to the classical Hertz theory, by which the bodies undergo elastic deformation and the contact area has the shape of an ellipse. In the first part of the study it is shown that when the two bodies make contact continuously over the elliptical area, the overall heat transfer rate is proportional to the square root of the Peclet number based on the ellipse semiaxis parallel to the tangential (rolling) velocity. Based on time-dependent Hartree-Fork approximation, we have developed a new technique for dealing with non-adiabatic electron transfer process and also obtained the formula for finding consistently the effective adiabatic parameter and the transition probability. Comparing to Landau-Zener theory our results indicate that the transition probability is greatly influenced by the coupling between the electron and the heat-bath. As the initial state of the electron is in the ground state, interaction between the electron and the heat-bath reduces the transition probability between the electron stat

Abstract:
For over forty years, researchers have attempted to refine the Fourier heat equation to model heat transfer in engineering materials. The equation cannot accurately predict temperatures in some applications, such as during transients in microscale (< 10^-12 s) situations. However, even in situations where the time duration is relatively large, the Fourier heat equation might fail to predict observed non-Fourier behavior. Therefore, non-Fourier models must be created for certain engineering applications, in which accurate temperature modeling is necessary for design purposes. In this thesis

In this thesis, the optimization of forced convection heat sinks and groundwater-source heat pumps is addressed with the purpose of improving energy efficiency. Parallel ducts heat sinks are considered under constrained (fixed) pressure drop, pumping power and heat transfer rate. The intersection-of-asymptotes method is employed together with numerical simulations and relationships for determining optimum hydraulic diameter are put forward. An optimal design emerges under fixed heat transfer rate, which matches that found through the joint minimization of pressure drop and pumping power. With

In modern heat transfer, shape and geometric optimisation are new considerations in the evaluation of thermal performance. In this research, we employed constructal theory and design to present three-dimensional theoretical and numerical solutions of conjugate forced convection heat transfer in heat generating devices with cooling channels of different cross-sectional shapes. In recent times, geometric configurations of cooling channel have been found to play an important role in thermal performance. Therefore, an efficient ways of optimally designing these cooling channels shapes is required.
