Impact of waste disposal and management is a worldwide phenomenon leading to health impact most especially in underdeveloped and developing world. This study was undertaken to assess the major contaminants in some municipal waste disposal sites and the prospective impact to the surrounding domestic water supply source as well as the impact on the health of the people in the city. This is carried out by studying variousphysico-chemical parameters of soil which were collected from three municipal dump locations namely; Ita-Amodu, Sawmill garage and Kuntu areas in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State N

Open dump being the common waste disposal practice in most of the urban centres has posed serious challenges to groundwater quality especially within its vicinity. This study assessed the impact of solid waste disposal on the quality of groundwater and soils in Oke-Odo area of Metropolitan Lagos, Nigeria. Field physicochemical parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS) and temperature were measured using PC Testre Model 35. A total of 36 water samples, two leachate samples and 15 soil samples were analyzed for their major ions and trace metal components u

The physicochemical characteristics and heavy metal levels of leachates at the Rumuodumaya dumpsites and the surface water of its adjacent river was investigated by appropriate field instrument for in situ measurement, standard procedures and AGILENT 55B spectra for the heavy metals. The results from the dumpsites and surface water of the river generally indicate that as of the time of analysis, there is no serious threat to its immediate environment except the nickel concentrations in the dumpsites and surface water of the river, respectively and whose values were beyond the recommended limit

The study assessed groundwater contamination from dumpsite leachate in Onne, Nigeria, over 12 months (May 2022–May 2023). Physicochemical (pH, EC, DO, BOD, TDS, turbidity, sulphate, phosphate, nitrate), heavy metals (Cr, Cd, Pb, Hg, Fe, Cu), and microbial (faecal and total coliform) parameters were analyzed in leachate and groundwater samples using standard methods. Statistical analysis (ANOVA, Tukey's HSD post-hoc, Pearson correlation) evaluated spatial variations and relationships between leachate and groundwater characteristics. Results showed significant contamination, with EC (232.3 ± 25.

River water quality is one of the current topics of theoretical and applied hydrology, ecological and urban hydrology, and one of the main problems in the planning and management of water resources. The chemical, physical, and biological characteristics of surface water, based on standards for its use, are related to human health, food production, wetland ecosystems, economic development, and social growth in our communities. The question of the quality of surface water in urban areas, where a combination of point and diffuse sources of pollution is registered, is particularly acute. Both orga
