Abstract:
The motion of a free boundary separating two immiscible fluids in an unbounded Hele-Shaw cell is considered. In the one-phase problem, a viscous fluid is separated from an inviscid fluid by a simple closed boundary. Preliminaries for a complex variable technique are presented by which the one-phase problem can be solved explicitly via conformal mappings. The Schwarz function of the boundary plays a major role giving rise to the so called Schwarz function equation which governs the evolution of exact solutions. Abstract:
A fluid drop in a Hele-Shaw cell moves due to surface tension driven potential flow. Using equations for the pressure and the Green’s function for the Laplace Equation, we can formulate an integral equation that determines the motion of the boundary of the drop. By discretizing the boundary contour and following the motion of boundary nodes, the time evolution of the drop can be determined from initial conditions. Results of a numerical simulation show the movement of a drop relaxing from coalescence and the motion of a drop undergoing electrowetting.

An experimental study was conducted to examine the behaviour of reactive and non-reactive systems by displacement experiments of light paraffin oil/decane mixtures by water in a range of mobility ratios. Dans cette thèse, nous proposons de quantifier d'une part la remontée d'une bulle unique dans un milieu confiné et d'autre part, la vidange d'un réservoir. Dans les deux cas, nous étudierons et comparerons les fluides newtoniens et les suspensions.
