Hendrik Eugeen Florentijn Keurvels werd geboren in 1852 in de Nederkouter. Zijn vader, Joseph, was herbergier en later bediende bij La Flandre Libérale. In 1875 huwde hij een eerste maal te Gent. In 1874-1875 gaat hij te Mons wonen, waar zijn vrouw in 1880 overleed. In 1881 trouwde hij een tweede keer te Antwerpen. Hij woonde achtereenvolgens in de Fröbelstraat 24, Godshuizenlaan 249, Korte Dagsteeg 29, Iepenstraat 7, Kor trijk sestraat 61, Visserij 147, Heir nis laan 102 en Schaap straat 18.
