Abstract:
Henry Crabb Robinson (1775–1867) earned his place in literary history as a perceptive diarist from 1811 onwards. Drawing substantially on hitherto unpublished manuscript sources, Henry Crabb Robinson: Romantic Comparatist, 1790–1811 discusses his formal and informal engagement with a wide variety of English and European Romantic literature prior to this point. Robinson thus emerges as a pioneering literary critic whose unique philosophical erudition underpinned his activity as a cross-cultural disseminator of literature during the early Romantic period. Abstract:
The essays collected in this book are the results of an international and interdisciplinary conference which addressed the topic of shared perspectives in common values and which focused on an obviously very difficult question: Bearing different mechanisms, such as financial transfers and the logic of institutions, in mind, what is the basic cultural link in the values of European integration? The tremors and disintegrative effects the EU has been experiencing for quite some time are not least the result of a shift in its perspective that the idea of the common values of a European society bei

Abstract:
Economic crises regularly give rise to criticisms of economists and forecasters for having failed to blow the whistle. Forecasters’ efforts to deal with ‘errors’ and events that contradict their predictions show analogies between forecasting and magic as analysed by Henri Hubert and Marcel Mauss in the early twentieth century. The way forecasters depict the process of forecast production pinpoints three different sets of explanations for errors that together seek to discard ‘reality’ (‘what actually happened’) as a relevant criterion for judging forecasts (‘what had been predicted’).
